The Spurs are in the middle of it ALL right now…
The Spurs are at the center of it all right now as Bleacher Report has revealed their top trade candidates for the San Antonio Spurs. Yes, including Jiren Jackson, Trey Murphy, and one other name. But it goes far beyond that as Herb Jones from the New Orleans Pelicans has been in more trade discussions lately than ever. With a new report from Jake Fiser revealing the New Orleans Pelicans intentions with these players being more open to moving them than ever before. Naturally, San Antonio has shown themselves to be a great fit with even articles being written on the subject and we’re here to dive into all of that. But hey, before we do, make sure you hit that subscribe button for daily Spurs updates. There’s going to be a lot of trade talks. This is the spot to be. By the way, it’s completely free to hit subscribe and let’s just dive right into this because the Spurs trade talks. Look, we know it’s going to get crazier and crazier and crazier. But right now, Bleacher Report has been talking a lot about the Spurs and recently here you can see the San Antonio Spurs top three trade targets per Bleacher Report. Number one, look, there’s no surprise, but I understand how a lot of us feel about Giannis. You guys know my stance. I don’t think it’s worth it. Again, we’ll see what happens on that front. I just don’t see it happening. But these other names kind of piqued my interest, right? In Jiren Jackson Jr. and Trey Murphy. And I want to start actually, you know, you know what, not with Jiren Jackson, but with Trey Murphy III because this is a guy to me that we have talked about myself, Keenan like and Brian as well. Like this is just the type of guy that feels like a perfect fit for the San Antonio Spurs. Looking at our payroll, Murphy’s making between I think 25 mil this year and his contract goes up to 31 million in a few years. He’s locked up for four years and he’s a great fit, right? You can see here the numbers are great. 20.4 points per game, 46% from the field, 37% from three. But with the quality of three-point shots he’s getting in New Orleans versus what he would get in San Antonio, I I think it’s safe to say that those numbers would even go up in San Antonio as the Pelican situation’s a bit rough right now. And he’s just a guy that can bring some defense, bring some on ball and offball scoring, great rebounder, great assists per game numbers for a guy that does what he does. But again, you know, when it when it comes to the Spurs, it’s like where does he fit in this lineup? So, looking around the the players we got now, the thing is for me, we have some expiring deals. Now, I know Sohan is technically expiring. He’s going to be an RFA, so teams can come in offer sheet and whatever, but we have Kelly Oolen and Harrison Barnes expiring at the end of the year. And like what’s crazy is that if you replace Harrison Barnes money with Trey Murphy, you’re like, with the cap even going up, it’s basically a net zero, which is kind of insane. But the New Orleans Pelicans, look, Trey Murphy is not a guy that they’re that they have actively shopped in the past, which is why I got to bring this up. Uh, the Pelicans are at least showing showing some willingness to listen to trade offers for Herb Jones and Trey Murphy per Jake Fischer. Now, we’ll get into Herb Jones a bit later because he’s not a guy that has been like directly linked to the Spurs. I will get to that in a second, but where’s the Trey Murphy stuff? right here from Will Giri saying, “There’s a whole lot of rumors swirling around the Pelicans and what they may do with their main guys in the trade market. I’ve been told by several sources that they have not had any conversations with other teams about Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, or Zion Williamson. So, while Murphy is the kind of perfect fit for San Antonio, they haven’t actively been looking to move him, but at the same time, they’re showing some willingness now more than ever. And if you go look at what Pelicans fans are saying about this, whether it’s on Reddit or Twitter or Facebook or wherever you find your news, maybe here on YouTube, a lot of them are saying like, “Listen, at this point, keep the young guys, keep guys like Jeremiah Fears, keep some of your young key guys around, Derek Queen, and just let these other guys go. Trey Murphy at this point will probably not be part of a, you know, a winning Pelicans roster. They are listening on Zion Williamson. So, it’s really interesting there. But before I get to Herb Jones, I want to quickly mention Jiren Jackson Jr. No, no, I don’t want this. What? Okay, let’s just like maybe that’s not how you guys feel. Look, again, I think Jiren Jackson Jr. is a fine player, a great player. His points per game are down to 17.5 this year. I think he can be better. And again, like he’s a guy, he’s only shooting 34% from three this year, but he shoots the three ball pretty well. Like he’s very confident shooting it. So, I actually think those numbers will go up. And historically, he has been very good at blocking shots. This year really hasn’t been all that great. And he is making the big thing with Jiren Jackson. Again, reminder, Billy Travor named him as the second best target. He’s making $40 million a year for like the next five years. And to me, again, looking at the Spurs payroll, there is just no world here. Like, I I think there’s a way higher chance that the Spurs are looking and would want to trade for Giannis than Jiren Jackson Jr. And I understand Jackson may not command the same price as Giannis and who knows what’s going on with the Grizzlies right now because Jarant there’s people that see him as a negative asset and oh my goodness they traded Desmond Bane and that I I don’t know there there’s some weird stuff going on in Memphis and I don’t even really know where they’re planning to go. Look, if they’re willing to move Jiren Jackson, you might as well check in because he’s just a guy that absolutely elevates your defense. But for me, what he brings is not worth $40 million a year even with the cap going up. So, I’m not not so sold on that one, but I’d love to hear your guys’ thoughts on those three names as I want to circle back here to Herb Jones. And this article comes from Air Alamo. I’ll link it down below because look, I’m going to be honest. When I saw this tweet here, well, when I saw Jake Fisher’s article, I should say, I was like, “Okay, Herb Jones, look, if we can’t get Trey Murphy, I love the idea of Herb Jones.” And then I see I’m not the only one. This article linked down below. As I said, Herb Jones is the perfect all-in trade target for the Spurs. a potential starting lineup of Fox Castle, Vel, Jones, and Wanyama would bolster their defense that would make them better able to defend on the perimeter and more switchable, too, which could potentially end the parade of open threes. And that is what I want to focus on because a guy like Herb Jones to me again and Trey Murphy, but even maybe arguably Herb Jones more, it like again the Pelicans are not necessarily open to moving him, but they have shown some willingness more than ever. You look at the Spurs, we don’t need a ton more high-end scoring, right? With We Wii and Fox and Castle and Bell and Harper. Like right now for this year, scoring is not really our concern. Yes, I know we’ve relied on the three ball a bit, but we haven’t had a fully healthy Spurs team. Yeah, we got we got some scoring with Fox. We got some scoring with Webby. The defense has been a big issue, which is a crazy thing when you have Victor Webinyama, but it’s been mostly given up these open threes. And what does Herb Jones bring you? He brings you elite wing defense. He’s two years removed from coming fifth in defensive player of the year voting and being an alldefensive first team wing. Like that this guy is when healthy one of the premier defenders in the entire NBA. Now last year he only played 20 games. This year he’s on pace to play a good amount of games. I think he’s already played all of their games if not most of them I should say. Maybe not all of them but most of them. And look, the scoring numbers, they’re not gay, right? That 9.5 points per game in 30 minutes, definitely not crazy, but that’s in large part due to the lowered efficiency this year. And his three-point shooting is down to 36% when he has seasons of 40% three-point shooting. And I fully believe again like like with Trey Murphy, that he could get back to that number if he were in an environment like San Antonio that could prioritize getting him wide open threes. But I just think he’s such a perfect fit for this team. He’s almost like a bolstered up Jeremy Sohan in a way where he’s a very switchable wing with a bit more NBA experience, a bit higher of a ceiling on the three ball and a proven track record. Also averaging 1.4 steals per game. So when I’m looking at the Spurs roster and I’m looking at not that when I’m looking at the Spurs roster and I’m looking at potential fits, Trey Murphy is great because he does everything we need and he gives that extra scoring punch and a longer term deal that will lose with Barnes this off seasonason unless he comes back on a cheap deal. Whatever. Herb Jones doesn’t quite give that scoring punch. He can. He’s averaged 10 points a game the last two years, including that 20 game played season. But to me, he’s on a more affordable contract, too. That’s not even to me. It’s not even an opinion thing. He’s making like 20 mil a year. He’s making less than Trey Murphy. You get legit all defensive first team caliber defense from a guy, again, he has one season of some injuries, but if he’s healthy, he’s great. AllNBA first team level defense. a guy who has a history of shooting around 40% from three in a couple of seasons for 20 mil a year for a team in San Antonio that really lacks that wing defense right now. And I know we hope Sohen can get there and look, I I think he really can, but for me, I I just think that if the Pelicans are open to moving either Murphy or Herb Jones, you got to be on this if you’re Brian Wright and I think he will be on this. So, I’m curious to hear your guys’ thoughts on these names. Again, trades within the division, there’s always that weird thing where it’s like, I don’t know if I want to trade to this other team in the Southwest, but they happen sometimes, and I’m really curious to see how this develops. So, let me know your thoughts on that down below. That’ll do it for this episode. Hey, if you enjoyed, just a reminder to check to see if you’re subscribed. Just check because statistically like 60% of you still aren’t. And we’re pushing for some big goals this season. So, thank you very much for tuning in to the end of this video, watching every single day. I’m your host, Josh Goss. I’ll catch you on the next one.

The topic was Gannis nothing else. We could have got them others along time ago
We need to trade this channel to Washington.
hell yeah!
Wait, no huge headphones? now we looking more pro, hell yeah!
bro get jaren jackson it give more depth for the spurs
Helllllllll noooooooooo to JJJ
This is a better option than the Giannis trade.
Tho, the spurs can act as a conduit in a muti-team deal for Giannis and get a 3&D wing in the process.
I read bleacher report every day this SOB IS LYING IN THE NAME OF CLICK BAIT
We need to get rid of Champagne, he’s an undersized forward. Plays more like a wing
Trey Murphy is interesting but the Spurs already have Sochan no need for Herb Jones he can’t shoot either. The Spurs don’t
All these trades depend on what they are willing to sell for. Already PATFO have been reported to making Wemby, Castle, and Harper untouchable. So if any of these teams value highly DV or Sochan maybe something will happen. Otherwise another trade deadline passes as been the norm for San Antonio…
What will WATFO do???…
JJJ for Sochan and a few picks would be a good deal. Spurs need an athletic big that can shoot and play D.
Herb jones is not as good people think he is. People are judging him off one good season, he can’t shoot! Shoots less than 35% in every season except 2
I hate Murphy. He's an overpaid player that's been losing for years. Spurs have that in Vassell. The Spurs should be looking to sell Vassell high, dump Sochan to whoever likes him, and add more bargain champs like Barnes and Kornet.
The Spurs have been known to not do mid season trades, I don't think it's worth it. Evaluate the team for a whole year, make moves in the off-season.
Fox "forced" he's way to the team last year, that's a one time thing. We need to let the young players we have develop to see what moves to make.
These talks are only coming up because the spurs are good this season! If we didn't trade Sochan after the point guard experiment, I don't think we are making any trades until the off-season.
Spurs need another center. Luke is hurt all the time.
I for sure get rid of Sochan this trade deadline because we’re just not extending him. Let’s try and get something, I would honestly go all in for Herb, possibly try and get Trey Murphy but I just think the Pels would want too much but I think Herb is very realistic
Trade Mitch. Hes dogshit. Sign Budenholzer
Rather have jalen Duran
Spurs Digest is deleting my comments.
What are you guys afraid of?
Spurs need Giannis b/c limp-wristed Mitch knows how to screw up lineups. He had SIX MONTHS last season to prove his worth and he has not improved. He failed…and so did Popovich who sabotaged the team. The team who gave him a Hall of Fame coaching career. Shame on you, Pop. After the season Sean Sweeney will walk unless he is made head coach.
