I've seen a lot of people suggest that Trey should be traded to help foster the rebuilding; so what would be a good offer? Picks? Young prospects?

  1. A lot. Big wings on reasonable deals that are elite shooters go for a lot in bidding wars.

  2. I could see a deal at the deadline to the warriors where the Pelicans take back all 3 of the up and down young Warriors, Kuminga, Moody & Podz with Murphy and two other vets like Bey & Alvarado going to golden state.

  3. Mikal Bridges got five first-round picks plus a first-round swap.

Desmond Bane got four first-round picks plus a first-round swap.

Murphy is taller and younger than both.

David Griffin would get more for Murphy than Memphis got for Bane.

Who knows what Joe Dumars will get. But hurry up and do it ASAP, before the rest of the league figures out that Murphy cannot survive as even a team’s second option.

He has no perimeter skills except catch-and-shooting, no big-man skills but rim finishing.

    Gimme the picks.

  4. He is in the upper tier of complimentary players, he is not an All-Star or maybe barely one. He is not going to turn a losing team into a winning one, but he could help a good team become a much better one. On some teams he would be coming off the Bench. We have some good people as players but most of them are complimentary players, not stars. CJ McCollum was a star, he could get his own shot and do it all. We do not have that anymore, even Zion is limited by the fact if he can only drive to the basket and cannot (or will not) shoot a jump shot.

  5. I just hope he’s traded to a good team because my fandom is going with him. When ownership changes I’ll probably be back

  6. He’s got a value contract right now. But look at teams in the top 8 in each conference and what would they pay to have him to push them over the top? GSW, not in the top 8, could use him. (Shit, let them take Poole back). I’ve often compared Trey to MPJ, who he played tonight. MPJ from the objective view tonight is the far superior player. MPJ is also the 3rd best player on a championship team, possibly fourth if you value Aaron Gordon higher. Trey would fit great on the Lakers in place of Rui. But what would someone pay for that? You’d have to take some bad salary back if you want picks.

  7. Hard to find a good comp. I think Mikal Bridges is the closest recent one, but 1) the Knicks wildly overpaid for Mikal (for good reasons: he had great fit with the existing core both on and off the court and was a proven playoff guy), and 2) Mikal was *slightly* better overall I think, better on D but worse on O but he was more playoff tested.

So overall I think something like matching salary plus two unprotected firsts would be a solid deal for Trey. To be clear, I’m not saying the Pels should take that offer. When you’re the Pels you have to value guys already in the building more than hypothetical future guys considering the difficulty in attracting and retaining talent, and Trey is locked up for a long time. But if a team offered two unprotecteds that had a chance to be good picks without taking any bad money back, I think they’d have to have the conversation. I’d hope to get more, but the entire league can see the dire straits the Pels are in, and I wouldn’t blame Trey at all if he asked out so it might be better to get ahead of that situation.

  8. I’d rather keep the young sharpshooter on a decent contract, as part of the rebuild.

  9. Tre Jones, Zach Collins, top8 protected
