Brady Tkachuk, Jake Sanderson, Fabian Zetterlund, Travis Green Postgame Media vs STL

Uh, I mean, put up a lot of shots. Their goalie played really well, but um, what was it? Three or four power play opportunities in the first period. Got to get one. Um, yeah, just unfortunate that’s the result. What needs to change on the power play to see more success? I don’t know. Um, I think more inside, more shots. Um, sometimes I feel like we’re just uh a little bit a little bit too much on the outside and make trying to make that pretty play where um sometimes we just need to grind one out, grease one out and uh uh but we’re building, we’re learning and and uh we’ll get better. I realize you hate losing right now. You seem really like ticked off. Is there a reason this one maybe is worse than other losses? Yeah, I mean just uh you know, two in a row, four of the last five. Um yeah, I mean it’s just disappointing especially a hometown team too and um yeah just not a lot of success right now but grand scheme of things is there’s uh tons of learning opportunities uh throughout this game and and um throughout this whole stretch. So I know we’ll be fine and we’ll be good and um just got to get out of it. Can you take us through those final seconds why it got so heated with all those scrumps at the end? Yeah, I mean honestly I don’t really I saw because you know in the net kind of getting worked pretty good and just try getting those guys off and obviously if you’re getting choked out you’re you’re not too happy when you come up. So um when one uh is fired up, we’re all in. We’re not going to get outnumbered in in those situations. And I know we had the the extra guy anyways, but uh that’s our team identity is that the one guys in the fight that uh they got each other’s backs and yeah, it’s just in that situation, it’s a no-brainer to help a guy out. What was your initial reaction when the stick came up? Honestly, I I there was kind of no thoughts. Um like just kind of froze there. obviously was really worried about my eye, but um I think I guess that was the only worry some I just didn’t want it to be too bad uh you know with my eye and but uh all good. No harm, no foul. He’s uh I know he felt bad so he’ll be fine. When did you realize who it was that did it? When did you realize that it was Robert Thomas? Like I knew right away because I knew I was right next to him. So um coming up the ice and uh yeah, I mean obviously everybody knows how close we are. So, um I know he probably felt shitty about that, but all good. I mean, it’s stuff like that happens. How does your shot feel now? Yeah, it feels fine. Um yeah, it probably looks worse uh um than it actually is, but uh yeah, just hopefully it swelling stays down the next couple days. When you think about the volume of shots, you mentioned you probably needed one of those power play goals. Do you feel like overall you guys might have played good enough to win though and you just ran into a hot goalie? I think so. I mean, I think when you have that many power play looks, you probably, you know, should win. Um, you know, five on five. Um, I thought we did a, you know, decent job. Um, honestly, it’s just kind of a whirlwind of a game where, um, it’s hard to kind of recap right now. It’s so fresh, but, uh, the next two days will probably have a better understanding about where we need to get better and and where, um, we will get better. Based on overall play, tough to see the end result. Yeah, for sure. um you know had had more than enough chances to tie the game and uh you know matter of fact win the game too. So um obviously uh you know not a great play by me to start the third. It hurts. It stings but uh you know you can’t sit and dwell on it. There’s a lot of game left to play. Um just scratch and claw back and uh you know credit to their goalie. I’ve never seen I’ve never seen a goalie that sharp um play that well before. So um you know credit to him. what’s not happening on the power play right now. Uh just a little out of sync. Um obviously we had a lot of attempts. You got to look back and uh see what happened. But uh you know I thought uh you know the other unit came out and you know simplified it. Um starts with G just you know throwing pucks to the net multiple times and multiple guys there and bang home rebounds. So, um, you know, I think that’s something our unit can, uh, can take and just being a little bit more clean as well. Bit of a just a bit of a slump at this point. Is there something that’s changed or is there just, you know, you’ve run into some odd teams uh, in five on five in general? No, just or in the last five games. Yeah. Um, I mean, you don’t want to there’s there’s no excuses. You don’t want to blame it on on the long road trip or anything. We feel fresh. We feel good. Um, it’s just that time of the year where you got to dig deep and find a way. Even beyond the the power play opportunities you had, just over 40 shots in the game, how frustrating is it to have as many opportunities that you had at five on five and on the power play? It still doesn’t result. For sure. Um, just in the first period, I think, you know, we had eight minutes of power play time. Um, and not really any results to to go with it. It’s easy to get frustrated there. Um, especially early in the game. So, um, you know, it’s a learning curve. Just got to stick with it, take a deep breath. Um, but, yeah, it’s a frustrating one. Um, I thought we played good. Kind of just one of those games where, uh, you know, two to one game. Um, little mistakes end up in the back of your net and they win. So, in order for to stop sort of the this kind of momentum going forward, bad momentum, I’ll say, what needs to be said or does anything need to be said for this group to kind of move forward? Yeah, I mean, uh, we’re not worried about our game right now. Obviously, uh, we’ve lost a few, um, you know, out of the five or whatever, but, uh, we’ve had some good games, we’ve had some bad games. Um, like I said before, it’s just that time of the year. Um, we’ve got to dig deep, find a way, um, simplify your game, and, uh, yeah, just just pull pull for each other. Thanks. Thanks, Jake. Overall play is kind of a lousy outcome to look at. Uh yeah, I mean uh I think we do decent decent game. I mean, but uh we’re going to make it harder for the goalie. I mean, we shoot a lot of pucks, but um sometimes we don’t we don’t have a net front pressing, so yeah, we need that in this league. Jake was mentioning he just felt he not faced a goalie who had had such a good performance. How was it so hard to find the back of the net? Was it all goalie? Uh I don’t want to talk about that. I mean, uh we got to make it harder harder in front of them. Thanks. How’ you assess your team’s Sorry. Uh did a lot of good things, but uh you know, got to find a way to win that game. Their goalie played well again. Our power play wasn’t good enough. What would you say is the key to find ways to unlock more out of this power play which has struggled in the last couple weeks? Uh I mean there’s a lot you can say are the keys but they’re just not they’re just not getting the job done. They’re on the outside a lot. The execution hasn’t been been good enough either. What’s the challenge to play against a goalie like that that can play around like effort? What do you mean? You got to play the puck around his net. Got some passes. Yeah, he’s he’s good at playing the puck for sure. Um, you know, both their goalies are part of our prescope when we play a team like that. Uh, it’s never going to be perfect, but I didn’t see that as part of the reason that we lost the game. That’s for sure. Stephen Halliday had a career high in minutes play. You obviously liked what you saw from him tonight. a lot. That was one of the bright things about the night. I thought he played a fantastic game and uh you know started to play him a little more down the stretch. That’s for sure. Lost a couple close games of late. Like what are you seeing kind of as the margins that you’re maybe not getting over the line right now? Yeah, well it’s I I don’t think it’s complicated. We’ve I’ve liked our game these last two home games. We got to find a way to score. We got to bear down around the net. Uh, and our power play has to be better. Um, you know, it’s not that complicated. Okay.

  1. we lost four of five since our captain's return, why? During this bad period, Tim got just one assit with minus 8 and faceoff 32%? what happend here with Timy? Injury?

  2. Killer instinct.

That’s what this team lacks, they’re happy winning 2-1 games. Need to learn to want it more than the other team and keep pushing.

I don’t know if it’s team identity, but the passive system exacerbates the lackadaisical special teams; they let teams come to them and not the other way around.
