Bought this 'vintage' Red Sox pic off marketplace. Google didn't provide much info on the pic alone but I was able to figure out this was late 80s or early 90s based off the outfield advertisement signs. They're playing the Yanks and it's the top of the 4th but I can't really see the score.

Gifting the pic to my Dad and it's been fun trying to sleuth info. If you can give any details, I'd love to add it to my description. TIA!

  1. Can’t pinpoint exactly. But there’s no Monster seats so it’s before ‘03. And no John Hancock sign in right, so before ‘01.

It looks like Wade Boggs on the Yankees on the screen, so that would put it between ‘93-‘97. Can’t find anything else that would indicate closer.

  2. I’m going to guess 1993. Right guard sports stick (ad sign) was big around that time. That and they’re still heavy into cigarette ads in this photo which I think ended in 1995.

  3. The Marlboro ad gives us an end date – cigarette ads were pulled from stadiums after the 1995 season.

  4. 1990

(Based on matching up the ads with google images of the park that year)

Also think it could be Greg Cadaret on the screen

  5. If that’s Steve Balboni hitting it has to be 89 or 90. I’m basing that on what appears to 45 under the At Bat sign, the mustache the dudes rocking, and him being a right handed hitter

  6. This might be a good use case for AI. Gemini 3 pro thinks that second batter in the lineup is Sax, Steve Sax, and that Kevin Maas is another short name. Gemini guessed 1990 but I bet you could narrow it down if we guess the pitcher on the mound is the starter.

  7. If the scoreboard waa clearer, could easily use Baseball-reference.com’s boxscore search

  8. Away team (Yankees) right-handed cleanup hitter #45 leading off top of the 4th. Last name 7-8 letters. Catcher batting 8th. Player batting second 3-4 letter last name.
