New York Islanders Pregame Availability | NYI at FLA

Any update on PO? Uh, no, no update on PJO. Um, the only changes we’re going to have is Reic in net and uh Mitchell will take over book. So, what have you seen from Sakovi’s last couple games, especially with Barsaw? You know what? I I feel like he um last game I like the, you know, how he managed that puck. I thought he managed really well. Um, we talk about it and I thought he did a nice job. Now, what we want is to see him, you know, a little more involved in the rush and and and moving his feet and but I I feel like he’s been doing a really nice job playing with Barzy and and Anders. I mean, it’s it’s a it’s a good task for him and I feel like he’s doing a great job on it. I I’ve been meaning to ask you about the five on six play. Are you doing anything structurally different this season? No. It’s just improved, right? The play? Well, I thought we were doing a good job towards the end last year. We had a lot of talk about it and Boogie, I mean, he’s been, you know, uh, taking care of it and he’s been doing a really nice job on it. But, uh, again, um, I think it’s also a question of confidence and I feel like our guys are playing with confidence right now and that certainly helped us. What do you think has led to your team’s success this season with the second half of a backto-back? um should ask me that question after the game, but um I didn’t throw any numbers out there. I’m just No, I know. I know. I know. Um I don’t know. I I just feel like we It’s funny. We don’t approach it like a back-to-back game. We just play the game and and actually I will say this. I think it was Wed that was Don Wedell was saying the schedule is very demanding. It is very demanding. So if you start looking at the schedule, what’s behind, what’s in front, what’s over there, I think it’s too hard. So you got to take it one day at a time. And I think that’s been our approach, focusing on today’s game and then not worry about what happened yesterday. And I think that’s been part of of of what we want to do as a team. That’s why we’ve been talking about joy, compassion, I mean, bold. I mean, make sure every day we bring this the clarity that we’re looking for or the presence, you know, and and I think the guys been embracing that and and I think that been it’s been helpful. To piggy back off that, obviously, you’re not going to change exactly the way you play, but maybe if you don’t have your legs, is it more important maybe on the second and back to backs to win those net front battles and just throw it more pucks the net? I don’t know. I feel like right now everybody knows what they have to do. Um, and I don’t think we we have to think too much out there. or we just play and I think that really helps us a lot. I know I say a lot I think but I mean that’s the way I feel. Um you know like yesterday we played really well defensively offensively that was not our best game. Uh and and because we played so well defensively allow oursel a chance to stay in the game and we got a huge goal by by Cal and Richie. So that’s what good teams do, you know, they they stay in the game and then they find ways and give time to to get that goal. And that’s what happened for us. Just what was the thought with uh Mitchell coming back in? Um that was part of what we wanted when Meta and I were talking. We It’s a father trip. So father and son trip kind of or family trip, you could call it that way. Um it’s important that everybody plays
