I DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS..

So, so, so, so, so, so this game uh, wasn’t a great one, but it also showed me how much faith I actually have in this team. And I I’ll explain that in a minute. I’ll explain that in a minute. That’s a crazy pass. I’m not even going to lie to y’all. I’m not even going to hold you on that. That’s actually a crazy pass. Um, but yeah, so this game did a few things for me. Okay. Uh, I found myself upset for just about most of it. Um, but at the same time, I took a step back. I took a step back because I realized there’s no real reason to be upset. First off, nothing has really changed since any of these other games as far as what I’ve complained about. Like one huge complaint that I’ve had throughout the entire season, well actually since Wimy’s gone out um is our starting lineup. I do not quite understand it um if you guys have a take on it, you can tell me. I don’t like this starting lineup. It It is so confusing to me. One thing that’s very confusing to me is why in the heck what like why in the life of me is Byombo starting over Sohan in this situation. Now I know first first and foremost you’re going to be like oh yeah I know this is like a messenger type thing right like I shouldn’t be delivering this message but I think that it’s just kind of weird that we had to use Sohan as a backup center if we’ve used him as a backup center this entire season. And I I want to do a separate segment on on Sohim, by the way, because we use him as a backup center this entire season and he he’s he’s playing behind a player who gets DMPS every every game. Like Beyon doesn’t play. I don’t quite understand that. It It doesn’t make quite It don’t make any sense to me. By played 10 minutes this game because he was virtually unplayable, but he’s been unplayable all season. He gets DMPS. He don’t play. So, I don’t understand why you would do that. Another thing I don’t understand is in this game, Julian Champeni was basically like useless. I’m not saying he’s useless as a player. I think he’s a really good player, but he was basically useless. It seems like by the end of this game, we just went with a lineup to try to outscore the Cavaliers. And we’re not going to outscore them. We’re not going to outefficient e efficiency them if that’s a word. Like we’re not going to do that because we had to settle for so many just outside shots and they can just it’s just a layup line for us because we don’t have a center out there. So, I don’t quite understand why we don’t just lean on our strengths. I don’t understand why Carter Bryant gets nine minutes in this game. He actually played decently well at center for every for what it’s worth. I don’t think that he’s he’s a center obviously, but for what it’s worth, he did pretty well. And I thought him and Sohan out there did pretty well together. The fact that he got nine minutes is basically malpractice. So that that’s that’s my issue. That’s something that that’s been bothering me or this Yeah, this just has been bothering me all season is that the starting lineup sucks. It ju it’s just not an efficient starting lineup. You got Chenny who I love Champeni and I think that he is underpaid but he is streaky. Okay, he’s a streaky player. He’s not a great defender, anything like that. He’s a good defender. He’s a he’s an average to good defender, right? And that’s fine. Uh Devin Facel, he’s he’s streaky. He’s he’s he’s up and down. You you just don’t know what you’re going to get, right? Even in this game, he started off the game seven for 10 and then the rest of the game was that was it. Like, did he score again? May did he score again? Did he score in the second half? I don’t know. I don’t know if he scored in the second half, but I I’m sorry, guys. It just doesn’t make sense to me for Jeremy Sohan to be backup center when you’ve been playing him at center. You’ve been playing him as backup center. I get that. Okay, fine. Whatever. I’ll deal with it. And I want to say, “Oh, I’ll just deal with it until Wimi gets back.” But we did it even when Wimi was here. So, I I don’t even know. I don’t even know what we’re doing with Sohan at this point. But I don’t quite understand him not starting when Beyon gets DNPs. I don’t get that. It’s to me it’s like he’ll just never start. Like I don’t know what’s Mitch deal with with Jeremy. Um and Carter Bryant not playing is is is crazy. Uh he went 0 for one from three. Okay. Yeah, he’s unplayable, I guess. Like I I don’t understand that. I’m sorry. I don’t get it. Um so I liked what I was seeing from Carter, the nine minutes he played. Uh I liked what I saw from Sohan. Did his best. Kell, I liked his hustle. Did his best. a lot of the players just kind of did their best, right? Um I still think that Fox is a little too like loose with the ball sometimes. I don’t know what’s up with that, especially in traffic. I I don’t know what’s going on there, but let me go ahead and say this. U Oh, and Dylan Harper had a really bad game, and I was wondering, I hate to just throw this out there, but I’m wondering if like his dad being there had anything to do with it. I don’t know. Um but with all of that being said, I want to say this. the fact that I was looking at this game and I tr truly genuinely felt like this was winnable and I truly genuinely felt like the San Antonio Spurs could win it speaks volumes of how much depth this team has and this loss is I would say on the coaching staff to a degree but mostly due to just the injuries because I would want Carter Bryant to play more, right? I don’t necessarily say like cut and dry to you guys’ face, if Carter Bryant plays, we win. I don’t really think that. Um, but I will say our starting lineup stunk it up. It was absolutely awful. Um, I didn’t quite understand the starting lineup. I I wish we would stop this. Uh, Julian with Deon Facel, just two hot or cold players with good okay defense. I don’t know. I would rather just lean on our strengths. And our strength right now is primarily hustle and defense and getting to the rim. That that that’s our strength at this point, right? Um and even with this starting lineup and you have someone like De’Arren Fox who likes to get to the rim or you know likes to utilize screens. Who’s his screener? I know you guys make fun of me for this like so you always say so screen. Who’s his screener? Who’s giving him screens? I mean it it really just came down to like a one-on-one party at one point. It was just Devin Facil, can you take your guy? De’Arren Fox, can you take your guy? That’s what it came down to. There was no ball movement at one point. It got so ugly to the point where that that’s that what the offense was like. Can you just take your guy? One-on-one street ball. It was really ugly. And I think partially due to the fact that you don’t have anybody to kind of open it up. You don’t have any, you know, concrete screens. and that the only person that could really give you that in this entire uh roster that we have right now is Jeremy. Um so just don’t quite understand why he doesn’t start. Just seems kind of dumb to me. I I wouldn’t even been against starting Sohan with Kell or starting Sohan with Carter Bryan. I don’t know. It seemed like when those three were off the court, Brian Sohan and and Johnson when they were off the court, all of them off, we just looked awful. complete layup line. Um, not to say that they weren’t scoring, you know, when Sohan was at center, but it it it just it the vibe of the game, the the it was ugly, y’all. It was absolutely ugly. So, yeah. I don’t know. Just seemed like we were trying to force something and it was very obvious. I I guess my main thing is just give you give yourself a chance. You know what I mean? Just give yourself a chance to win. Stop it. You don’t know basketball. I’m sorry. You don’t know basketball, man. Come on. Come on. I’m just saying give yourself a chance to win. We don’t have a chance. You don’t have a chance with this this lineup right here, guys. At the end at the end of the game, I don’t even think Bombo was was in Who was who was in in placement of Byombo? Who was it? Was it Kell? I don’t know. I think it was Kell. But you just don’t have a chance. At one point, we had Harrison Barnes at center. You You don’t have You’re not even giving yourself a chance, man. Give yourself a chance. That’s all I’m asking for. Just give yourself a chance, you know? So, yeah, we have a lot of depth. What this game showed me is just how much faith I have in the team and how good I think this team is. The fact that I even watched this and thought that we could win it. Like, we don’t have a center, bro. That was our main issue last season. And yet still we still had moments in this game where we looked pretty good. But I was nerv I was pretty nervous after the second quarter because it felt like we were just outscoring them, you know? I mean obviously you outscore people in basketball, but it felt like a shooting party like we had to like the fact that Deon Facel was going off and we were only up by how much were we up by? Like like like eight. I think we’re up by like eight. Um, that made me a little nervous because I’m like Deon Facel is like going off and we’re we’re only up by eight. Um, so yeah, just ugly. The starting lineup was stupid. Don’t know why Biombo was out there at all. Um, I mean, not to say not at all. I’m sorry. Like Bybo could have came off the bench, but I don’t I don’t know why you’re not starting Sohan or starting Carter Bryan or, you know, just just mixing it up, man. Lean on your defense a little bit. Th those were kind of the those three guys to me were kind of the heart of this game. That was Kell, Sohan, and Carter. Like all all three of them could have got 30 today. 30 minutes. That mean that is all three of them could have. Um and Kell still made some mistakes. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying he’s a premier defender. There were quite a few back door cuts, right? And having a Wimb is going to save you there, but um he did fine. Like Kell did fine overall. He was hustling his butt off. He was playing so hard. Uh, and I don’t know. I just feel like our coaching staff did us a disservice here, you know. Um, yeah, coaching staff just did us a disservice cuz I thought I thought all three of those guys played really well um, together and defensively it gave us a chance. It stopped the it stopped the bleeding a little bit, but uh, yeah, sure. Let’s go with Harrison Barnes as center, I guess. I don’t know. It was It was really silly. So overall, I’m not really upset. The Spurs are still on pace for winning and losing as many games as I expected because I actually expect us to lose to Nuggets and win this one. But hey, other way around. So what we do know is tomorrow’s the 6th. So we know that uh uh Wimyama will be evaluated. Uh so we’ll see. We’ll take a look um what happens there. We did get news obviously that he could very well uh join the team on this uh road trip at one point. Um and I’m hoping it’s the next game on Monday. That would be beautiful. That would be beautiful cuz I think after that we play the Lakers. So um yeah, we need it, man. Christmas target. Gee, where do you hear that? Where did you hear that? I don’t know. to be honest, OKC would be a nightmare matchup for his clan. I think that we match up pretty well uh with them, but I do know what you mean. Even with Wimi, they’re so good at the mid-range. That’s kind of, you know, I wanted to say that the mid-range was mostly our um one thing we should be worried about. But honestly, man, our perimeter defense has been quite awful. Just to be real with you guys, it’s been quite awful. Um, but yeah, I just wish we would stop with this starting lineup, change it up, switch it up. I’m not saying Fox needs to get to the B. I’m not going that far or nothing like that. I’m just saying give them give them just give us a little bit of something else in this, man. I don’t care for Julian Champeni and Devin Facil starting together. I don’t I don’t care for it. So, that’s all I got. defense in general is so awful without either Wimby or Cornet. It It’s already awful as far as perimeter defense and a big part of that is the fact that you’re not really using some of your perimeter defenders, right? Like I know we don’t have Castle and Castle’s a really good perimeter defender, but the way that we have to utilize Sohan at the center position is not panning out. Um, and it’s not his fault. It’s just we we we’ve been down this road, right? And then Carter Bryant, he’s barely getting minutes, so he’s not getting like really a chance. Like, I mean, the guys that we have that could give you some good perimeter defense aren’t really given a shot and aren’t really getting um, you know, in position for us to do that. So, we’re really just leaning on, hey, how can we outscore these teams? But also, the ball movement was awful. It was just god awful. Um, I want to give Cleveland Cavaliers some credit for it. But it got so bad to the point where we couldn’t open anything up. Couldn’t get past any we just I don’t know. We’re just chunk we’re just shot chucking just shot chucking. Um, and we’re just praying for Fox or Facel to save us and uh obviously they could not. So yeah, it’s really stupid. Gave the Cavs a whole layup line. It was only so much you can do, right? Like you don’t have a center. Like I’m not That’s the thing, guys. I’m not expecting for us to put Sohan at center and now we could stop the Cleveland Cavaliers. But our best combination this game is seen in stopping um or slowing them down from just it being a layup line was Carter Bryant and Jeremy Sohan. There was one play in particular where Carter Bryant locked his guy up, right? Played beautiful defense and it set up Kell. And now Kell Johnson got the credit because he got the block, right? You guys saw the block, right? It was a really good block in the first half and it was like, “Whoa, that was nice.” But it was because Carter Bryant was out there and he was playing defense. It was good team defense all around when those three were on the court together. But unfortunately, Mitch Johnson thinks that Carter Bryant isn’t good enough and we’d rather play Julian Champeni who was I I really like Julian. I really like Julian. Um but in this game in particular, I don’t think it helped us much. Him or Harrison Barnes, I I don’t think those two helped us. like lean on your defense. That’s all you can really do here. Um you’re not gonna outscore the Cleveland Cavaliers, right? You just lean on our defense. Try to force some turnovers. You know, that that’s what you that’s what you got to do here. Uh at least that’s what I think. That was that’s my opinion. That was my opinion this game. Um yeah, but yeah, we we definitely need to force more turnover. It shouldn’t have been even like that. But that’s the reality. That’s the reality. I mean, what good is the shooting 35% from three to their 31% when they can go for 58%, you know, getting to the uh not the free throw line, I’m sorry, getting to the um the basket, just layup line. I felt like that combination of those two, Carter Bryant’s athleticism and length, Jeremy Sohan’s uh fundamental defense, Kell Johnson’s hustle was just enough to to to give them to to keep them on their heels a little bit. But without those three on the court, it it was just awful. You get you gave them basically everything, but we’ll be okay. So, hand screens were nice tonight. They were nice tonight. They were nice tonight.
