Washington’s Real Collapse Isn’t the Third Quarter — It’s the Second

  1. Neat! This is presumably from the 22 games from this season, but I’d love to see what pops up if you look at the last 3-5 years, or 10 years.

  2. Nice read, thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the perspective related to coach staff AND players adjusting to the game when it steps outside of predictable, repped-out situations. People often call for the head of Keefe but I think its part BK, part inexperience, and also as you mentioned, lack of identity and personnel for those in-game situations where the game goes “off script.” Common sense yet insightful stuff, and refreshing to hear in the midst of rebuild year catastrophizing.

  3. Good read! I know you and I have both been in the anti-Keefe squad for a while and I think this breaks down why he’s such a mediocre in-game coach. It’s like a fighter who forgets his fundamentals the moment he starts getting punched and the game plan deviates from the expectation. Their game against the Hornets at the start of the season was a great example of Keefe being totally clueless while Lee patiently executed his plan to keep putting Kyshawn in plays that would test his ability to not foul.

  4. Not a single good defender on the bench and that’s when they get their minutes

    Shouldn’t be a surprise

  5. I think our complete lack of identity is the most damning thing about Keefe’s tenure. It doesn’t even feel like the team is failing to execute a specific vision. It feels like there is no vision at all. There’s almost no rhyme or reason to the lineup changes and I don’t believe the environment he has the team operating in will be beneficial for any of the players in the long run in terms of on-court awareness, IQ, and production.
