I'd absolutely love this if they could pull it off. Can play both the infield and outfield, has an insanely team friendly contract (5 years and ~$100 million left) and is basically an elite hitter in all facets. I'd absolutely open up the farm to get him, even with him being 32 already.

  1. I have a feeling the Mariners are going after him hard and if they can’t they will resign Polanco. Hopefully the Pirates can snag one of those two.

  2. I’m not crazy about moving Keller after the Oviedo trade but Ketel Marte is 1000% a player you make that move for, even if you have to add a decent amount to Keller

  3. He’s actually so perfect that I think we need to make it happen. I’d be willing to move Seth Hernandez for him tbh, and I really like Hernandez

  4. We’re in on everyone. It’s getting tiring “almost” getting everyone.

They have no cred until they actually reel someone in.

  5. They mention them with J. Polonco also. I don’t know but I would be leery of a “Marte” and/or a “Polanco” on this team lol

  6. Glad everyone has the input “yeah right I’ll believe it when I see it”. We get it, but posting that exact sentiment on every single rumor is tiring, maybe actually try to have some insight about the rumor instead of just the same old boring comment.

  7. Hmm. This front office has made no secret whatsoever of its dislike for Nick Gonzales. I find that quite strange because although he has not shown a “plus” bat (thought to be his calling card) in the majors, he also certainly hasn’t looked overmatched, and he has also had a significant injury. On top of that, he’s still relatively young and definitely inexpensive.

What gives? Don’t they need a starting corner outfielder and a starting third baseman a whole lot more than they “need” to replace Nick Gonzales?

  8. The cost would be significant – probably something like Keller, Seth Hernandez, Termarr Johnson, and a wild card or two. I would be fine with it as long as it went along with significant free agent spending.

I really like Marte, but I would prefer we play Horowitz there and/or cycle young guys. I want to see a lineup card with professional hitters at 1B, 3B, and DH.

  9. Just wanted to correct one of the things you said, he played outfield for 1 season in 2021 and has not played there since. He openly disliked playing out there and credited it with making his recurring back injuries worse. He hasn’t had that injury pop up again since, which adds credibility to his claim. He will likely never play outfield again. Just wanted to clarify since I’ve been seeing this comment all over the place lately.

  10. Nicky G wasn’t good on offense last year . And they need another LH bat with power.

Marte checks almost every box .

  11. The Pirates are not IN on anybody until they are under contract. End of story. Stop paying attention to all of the blatant lies from this organization, no matter who the source is. Haven’t you learned anything by now???
