Bob Nightengale (so take it with a grain of salt) says that the Rays have "checked in" on Marte.
Lowe is owed a total of $11.5mm next season and may be traded. Marte is owed $15mm with maybe another $1mm from incentives. What do you think about a trade that sends Lowe and young pitchers like Seymour and Boyle to Arizona for Marte, which can more than replace his production at second base for a marginal payroll increase?

I used to trust the process with the Rays front office, but they’ve missed more than they’ve hit over the last few years. Plus most big league moves always feel like lateral moves rather than something to really push the team forward.
Or by the All-Star break, we have a four game division lead, and the devil’s magic is working and all of us who are skeptical or silenced again
No
You had me at trade Lowe
Arizona would be so stupid to give up Marte
I’d be gutted by such a move to be honest, I also think we’re putting our eggs in the Cedric Mullins basket for the extra production
So we trade the best 2B contract in the league for a guy that’s older and could fall off anytime while being signed for a bunch of years?
If we do that, I’ll be more upset than the Paredes trade.
We “check in” on practically everyone. It doesn’t mean much

Can Ketel play short? That’s the biggest thing for me. Or if we can slot him or b Lowe in the outfield and sacrifice defensively. For $15m/yr this is one of the best hitters in the game like top 15. Gotta go for it if we can
The only scenario where they trade lowe is if we are 100% out of it at the deadline. His contract is just too valuable and his production would be needed if they are in a playoff chase.
Ketel apparently came up at shortstop, so if he’s willing to play there and we keep Lowe…
Some of the people on this sub really don’t know the difference between imminent trades and kicking the tires.
