I was just wondering is anyone wanted to spend time analyzing the miles skated stats with me on NHL.com/EDGE. Given the comments on puck watching from the Edmonton game, it got me curious. Beniers I'm expecting to be on the high end, and Eberle on the lower end per minute comparison. Obviously shift and time on ice are factors, but I'm wondering if what I'm seeing with my eyes match what the stats say in this case.

Thoughts (and prayers for Ws) welcome. Go Kraken

  1. As an old time Seattle fan, rain or shine, good or bad, I am still grateful we have a team. I should be so lucky to see a pro team here again.

  2. I don’t remember where I found the info — but for the last couple of seasons Matty has ranked top 2-3 on our team for “average skate speed” and was ranked 12th overall in all of the NHL at one point in 2024. Last season him and Shane were by far the highest rated full-time Kraken players. All the info was pulled from Edge and displayed on a different website

That tells me that he (and Shane) were constantly skating and moving at a high level, which would back up your hypothesis that they would be more active

Edit* here’s a link to a post from a few years ago that details some of that, with a link to the site: https://www.reddit.com/r/SeattleKraken/s/s4gA55uxrm

The site is currently having some server errors, so I can’t look up info from 2025

  3. This is awesome info. I’d be interested who our top 5 miles/minute skaters are (again, more focused on distance, not speed for me). If I had to guess it’s Beniers, Montour, Catton, and a mix of Winterton/Kartye/Stephenson/Tolvanen rounding out the top five.
