struggling New York Giants. Sheffy, what what have they done? They have fired their defensive coordinator, Shane Bowen, this morning. You’ve obviously seen, we showed you all the blown leads that they’ve had this year. Now, again, they’ve decided to make a change at the defensive coordinator spot. They have fired Shane Bowen, moved on from him. This comes the morning after the Las Vegas Raiders fire Chip Kelly. So, literally in the span of less than 12 hours, we’ve seen two struggling teams fire two coordinators. The Raiders fired Chip Kelly last night. The Giants fire Shane Bowen this morning. The Giants blew that game yesterday. Another 10-point lead. As we were saying, Rex, the Lions had them right where they wanted them when they were down 10. Perfect position for the Detroit Lions to be in against the New York Giants team that has blown five double- digit leads this year. And the Giants, perhaps it’s no surprise, in the fourth quarters of games this season, they’re last in the league in scoring defense. They’re last in the league in total defense. They’re 30th overall out of 32 teams in both of those categories, but last in fourth quarter scoring and total defense. Rex, is this was this a coordinator problem? I mean, oh, hell yeah, it was. No, absolutely. And it was a coordinator problem, but you hired them. Like, what are you thinking? You got this kind of talent. They’re the second highest paid defense in in the National Football League. what are you doing hiring this guy? Well, like to me and again, sometimes being a head coach, you look at you’re a hell of a guy. I’m going to hire you as a coordinator. Sometimes you want to hire the best. And the reality of the situation is you go back, Brian Dal was a lame duck coach and everybody knew it. So maybe people True candidates weren’t lined up to take that job in the first place. One way or another, this Giant season cannot end soon enough because as we said, they’re off season. I think there’s going to be a lot of people very excited by them. Now, Sheffy mentioned the Cheaty Bray. It was mayhem for the New York Football Giants. Jameus Winston yesterday, Giants leading 20 to 17 in the fourth quarter. And then, Danny, how about this tricky play? Yeah. My question, hey, the Lions have them right where they want him. Here we go. Here we go. Rexy, here comes Jir Gibbs. Here it is again. Jib 49 yds for the touchdown. Gibbs, a monster day. Lions get within 2724. 3 minutes to go. Fourth quarter. Giants going for it on fourth down instead of taking the points. Dan, was that the wrong decision? No, it’s the right decision to the Giants. Your season’s basically over. Be aggressive. All right, fair enough. Now, the Lions take over. 240 left in regulation. Buried deep in their territory. Rex, how good was Jir Gibbs in this game? He was okay because he have By the way, here’s another one. This is He’s got 11 catches for the game and 220 yards rushing. He was okay. 33 seconds left in the fourth. They need a 59yd field goal from Jake Bates in the wind in the big win stinger. And it sneaks in. Wow. That look it’s outside the pole and then it’s got a good little late draw on that. So we’re tied at 27. We go to overtime. So here we go again. What do you think, Rex? We give the ball to Gibbs here. Fourth and five. Jameus Winston. The Lions only sack of the game from Aiden Hutchinson. Ends it. The Lions survive. They win at 34-27 in overtime. So, let me show you two things. First off, the Giants are now 2 and5 when leading by double digits. Jeez, in the fourth quarter, that’s impossible. When they lead by double digits, they’re two and five. as tied for the most losses when leading by 10 or more points in a single season in NFL history. After the game, and this is maybe more important, the frustration of all Giant fans was summed up by the Giants own Malik Neighbors, the long injured wide receiver. He tweeted and since deleted it, but he tweeted, “Sometimes they think they’d be making us lose on purpose, cuz it’s no way, bro. You throw the ball instead of running it to make them burn two timeouts. Then you don’t kick the field goal, then they have to go down and score. Football common sense. Am I missing something? Malik Neighbors sounds like a caller to the postgame show for his own team. Ripping his own coaching staff. They took it down. What’s the first reaction? Kfka, just start boxing your stuff up right now, man. Cuz you done. I mean, done that. And look, but when you’re talking about blowing the lead, that’s in the fourth quarter. Granny up by 10. I want you guys to take a look at something that will blow your minds away. This is where the Giants led in every game. Against the Cowboys, they’re up by three with 14 seconds to go. Against the Saints, they’re up by 11 in the second quarter. Against the Broncos, 5 minutes to go. They’re up by 18. against the Bears. They’re up by 10 with four minutes to go. And in the fourth quarter, they’re up by 10 with 11 to go. That’s the New York Giants. Okay, that right there. It’s all right there. They lost every one of those games. I mean, almost it’s it’s almost impossible to do, frankly. I I’m not sure what the odds are. And then when you’ve got Malik Neighbors, look, he’s he’s he’s candidly he’s the best player on their team. He’s hurt, so you forget about him. He’s he’s the best player they have, inclusive of everyone. What can we say about the Giants? I mean there there’s it’s just it’s it’s ridiculous these games they continue to lose. I think they’re a very appealing place next year for a very good coach. They obvious it’s it’s obvious that there’s talent on the team. They’re a much better team than their record indicates. The young quarterback has had a ton of good moments. Neighbors going to I I think that the Giants I I know it’s like mock the Giants a little bit because of the blown leads rightfully so. But I do think if you take a step back, six weeks left of the season, if I’m a coach, I’m sitting there going, that place is going to be there that there’s a a breeding ground for a lot of success. Look, what what you’re looking for, you always want an elite receiver, half check. How about a have an elite left tackle? Offensive line in general is better than elite left tackle. You have a a a franchise type quarterback, it looks like. All right, check. uh, by the way, could be arguably one of the best defensive lines in the league, if not the best. So, you got all those things. People are going to run to New York to try to get that job. By the way, as a quick aside before I spin to the Detroit side of it, of all the things about the Giants, the fact that Russell Wilson started the first three games of the season might be the most ridiculous. Look how much better Jame they look with Jameus Winston than they did. Energizes every team, man. If Russell did a great job. But I tell you what, when he came out for that coin toss, Russell Russell Wilson did. That’s leadership. That’s why he’s the captain of this team. He was wearing a a helmet. Uh anyway, good leadership. Anyway, let’s spin it to the other side because this was a game the Lions were very fortunate to win. Yeah. There are a lot of questions now about a team that a lot of people, including me, picked to go to the Super Bowl. Number one takeaway Lions. Their offensive line boores me mightily. Like we’ve been accustomed to talking about the Detroit Lions office line over the years as one one of if not the top unit in the league. They I mean this listen this is another week where teams have been getting after Jared Golf. They are one of the worst pass blocking units in the National Four League that’s going to come back to bite them if they can’t somehow get this thing worked out or remedy. But big dog let me let me let me move you a step back because you are a large man. Yeah, you’re No, no, no, no. You got to be here. We can see your one one other thought and Dominique Foxworth to his credit brought this up last week and it reared itself again. Dan Campbell taking over the offensive play calling. Yes, that he’s gotten his weapons more involved, but a lot of the game management stuff is falling through the cracks and it almost cost them the game yesterday. Yeah, it it’s really tough to do. And look, as a defensive coordinator, you know, or you’re calling the plays uh for defense and as a head coach, you can do that. It’s much easier. He’s doing the offense and it’s way way more difficult that way. And we saw it twice yesterday, right before the end of the half. Yes. Uh to start with where they ended up spiking the ball and using a timeout. They did the exact same thing in the fourth quarter when you’re using it where they they end up going spiking the ball using a timeout with a minute some left. Like all all those things have been handled. I think they need to have a a veteran coach. Maybe you don’t have your offensive coordinator. maybe have him be an expert in clock management to help Dan Camp. Super quick final word, Dan. Super quick. This offensive line in Detroit cannot win a Super Bowl and and that’s the last thing in the world you thought would be their concern. All right, coming up, huge second hour. Back to the game of the
