Am I crazy, or does a return this year feel unlikely? I’m not a doctor, but grade 3 is basically a tear of the ligament. For someone as big as Campbell, even playing in 6 weeks feels like a stretch to me.

Prayers up that big country is a freakish healer 🙏

  1. He wouldn’t be back for the WC game but 2nd round matchup would be possible.

Definitely makes the playoff bye much more important

  2. He certainly won’t be 100 percent this season but if we’re in the AFCCG…they’re wrapping the fuck out of that knee and putting him out there probably.

  3. I think it would be malfeasance to allow him to come back this year.

He has a long career in front of him. If they are in the Super Bowl and he feels good, let him play. Other than that, rest up.

This team has a core that you don’t need to rush

  4. Well any sprain is a tear. Grade 1 is tiny tear, if your lucky the ligament just got stretched. Grade 2 is partial, and grade 3 is a complete tear.

But it depends. Can it heal enough that it can be stable with a brace? We’ll find out. I imagine if we get the 1 seed he’ll be out there with a brace on.

  5. Oof. Grade 3 is a complete tear. Man that sucks.

I live with a grade 2 cartlidge tear in my right knee…I would not play football on it 😆

  6. He will not play in a regular season game for the rest of this season. The play-offs, we shall see. It’s certainly possible that he feels good enough to play well by the divisional round.

  7. Oh good, all the Reddit doctors get to chime in on when Campbell should return to the field.

  8. Well apparently, you can play on a total MCL tear. Previous players have done it many times. It really comes down to if he has pain or not in a few weeks. Then he’ll probably get surgery after the season.

  9. Sorry but anyone saying he could be back at all is mistaken. Grade 3 sprain is a complete tear requiring surgery. He’s out for the season.

  10. You should have stopped at “I’m not a doctor”.

All sprains are ligament tears. The grade just indicates the degree/depth of injury. Grade 3 (complete) tears can require surgery, particularly if other ligaments are damaged as well. If his MCL tear required surgery, he almost certainly would’ve been out for the entire year. IF he has a grade 3 tear and surgical intervention was not deemed necessary, he likely had no additional ligament damage and the hope/expectation is that with conservative treatment the stability of the knee will return. He has youth on his side in terms of healing capacity. They probably aren’t entirely ruling out surgery, if conservative management fails in the knee continues to be unstable, but seems highly unlikely. His recovery time is probably closer to six weeks than four weeks but that still puts him on the timeline that would see him return for the playoffs.

Also, I rarely believe/trust anything that Breer says/writes. I don’t believe that he has any legitimate sources within the Pats organization.

  11. I think this is one of the reasons Vrabel et al. put Campbell on IR in the first place: to make sure that he is *not* pressured to come back prematurely. I think if everyone involved is comfortable with him playing, he’ll play. If not, he won’t.

  12. So if grade 3 is a complete tear, why wasn’t it reported as a tear instead of a sprain?

A deep run is possible this year, but I don’t want to rush him and risk the next 10-15 years of him being our LT.

  13. thats not what others have reported. I think he’ll be practicing week 18 and then play either our 1st playoff game or forsure if we get the bye.

  14. I hope they don’t rush him. Yes, we could make a deep run this season, but having a solidified QB + LT combo for the next 4+ seasons sounds really nice.

  15. I tore my MCL playing division one hockey in college and I returned for the playoffs 5 weeks after the initial injury. I had to use a brace to help with stabilization and there was some pain during games along with swelling and inflammation afterwards, but it was manageable. Considering that Campbell surely has access to better treatment than I did in college 20 years ago, I wouldn’t write off a return this year if a playoff run called for it.

All of that will depend on his injury, his body, and how his rehab goes, though. I’m just saying that it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

  16. Logan Mankins played a whole season on a torn ACL. Shouldnt be that big of an issue for Campbell to return .When is he eligible?

  17. Lowe played decent last week, if he plays just not like a pile of shit for the rest of the year we can still win it all with him.
