Burrow played incredibly for 97% of the game but good lord he shouldn't have to play like the second coming of Christ to give the Bengals a chance.
It'd be nice if the ownership cared and makes GM and coaching changes this offseason, but I'm not holding my breath.

He’s not. he’s made out of glass and has only played three or four games this season. he showed some poor decision making at the end. he needs to play a full season
People say he played poorly because of the back to back interceptions, without realizing we were already at a point where a better team would have been in a situation where they would have been more worried about wasting time than scoring.
Yes he should be. He is making $275M, that’s super man money.
he should have pulled an Eli manning and held out for a decent team
I hate to say this but he kinda does. The contract he wanted was one thing. Paying JaMarr and Tee BOTH on top of Burrow’s record-setting deal – is exactly what Joe wanted. Well, here we are.
I love Burrow. I love JaMarr and Tee!!!! But this is really what a lot of people were trying to say.
Bengals are NOT the Yankees. We’re not even the Mets. We’re a poverty franchise compared to what other organizations do on the books.
We’re the Half-priced Books of the NFL.
I mean sure but he was primarily responsible for the awful pick 6 that more or less ended the game yesterday and it’s ok to say that
The Bengals pass heavy style of play leaves very little margin for error. We don’t run it effectively enough to mitigate our poor defense. Combine that with poor drafts and player development on D and this is what you get. All QBs are going to throw picks. You have to be able to overcome
He was the only reason we were in the game, but the 2 back to back interceptions in the 4th quarter played us out of the game. 2 things can be true. Overcoming a pick 6 followed by another interception at that point in the game is too much to overcome.
He played a great game man but those back to back picks were a head scratcher. Especially the first one, it looked like they were trying to force the ball to J chase. In a game where you are playing a team like the bills at home, you borderline have to play a perfect game and definitely cant throw a pick 6 and then immediately follow that up with another interception.
Joe Burrow is elite but you can’t completely minimize his involvement in that loss. But it’s football, shit happens.
The cap investment says otherwise
Mahomes, Allen, Jackson and Burrow are considered the best quarterbacks in the league *BECAUSE* they can go Superman and almost singlehandedly beat the other team.
We have needed perfect QB play to win games.. and even then we still lose. Flacco set a career high in yards in a game that we lost.
If being Superman means not throwing back to back interceptions then my bad
I love Joe but if your quarterback throws back to back interceptions on consecutive drives you are likely going to lose the game. This article sucks.
Back to back interceptions that lead to touchdowns were what lost that game.
He’s the QB that threw the picks. The whole team failed yesterday, JB doesn’t get a pass.
It’s been obvious the last three years what needs to happen.
Fire Zac Taylor.
Now, it’s clear that Duke needs to go too if he’s not willing to make that decision and get the right coach for Joe.
You don’t need perfection from your QB up three driving in their territory with 5 minutes to go. You need to burn clock and hand it off. Not buying this article and I love Joe.
Let’s call it what it is – he played a great game and had two unlucky throws. It happens. The defense played well enough to win for most of the game – those turnovers were the difference and the reason for the loss.
Nah they’ll run it back. I’m honestly at the point with this franchise that I may just do something else on Sundays they’ve shown zero interest in being truly competitive
the play calling gave the game back to buffalo.
when the bengals were up on the score the play calling should have been more runs to run out the clock.
No he shouldn’t, but that is the unfortunate reality of the Bengals
I’m not gonna place full blame on a guy coming back early from an injury going into the toughest 3 weeks stretch on the schedule for making a few mistakes, he hasn’t played football in months and I’d argue that a majority of QBs in that same position would be worse off, it’s just one of those unfortunate losses where too many people made mistakes, it would be less annoying if we would’ve just went into our bye week 3-0 against the Steelers, Jets and Bears like we should have and this loss wouldn’t have hurt us as badly
I hate how much conversation is based on 2 plays . Get a better defense and we win games… period. I know there’s more context around some of these games, but we had a top 10 defense per DVOA in 2022 and won 12 (probably would’ve been 13 if no cancellation) games. 13 wins is 1 seed territory and Burrow can afford to have a bad game here and there because he’s human and we can’t expect him to never make mistakes.
Pick 1 was a risky decision that didn’t pay off. That one’s on Joe. The 2nd one was just a good defensive play. Unlucky for us.
Yes he does need to be Superman and Batman and Flash and Hulk and Thanos to give us a chance to win
The Brown family sucks.
It’s such a conflict because it’s like:
-Win some meaningless games
-Lose to secure a better draft haul (I know we’re screaming for downs)
Joe is smart enough to recognize the nuance there, but I think he also wants to believe that they’ll be active during free agency because rookie defenders alone aren’t going to get us over the hump. It’s so sad to see that they’re wasting a Super Bowl caliber offense paired with this historically bad defense when a middle of the road defense would guarantee a playoff berth. Don’t get me wrong there’s a few guys on defense I feel great about. Some can develop into starters, some will be solid depth.
Regardless I don’t think the playoffs are happening but who knows.
Let’s beat Baltimore and see if Pittsburgh can lose to Miami. The Browns might even be able to steal a win from them with Shedeur. AFC North sucks this year. Lol.
The Bengals offense scored 34 points. The Bills offense scored 32 points. To win the game, Burrow would have needed to score another TD (40pts).
If not for a miracle fumble in the endzone, the Bills offense would have scored 39 points. The pick-six and the Bills fumble essentially cancel each other out.
The argument here isn’t if Burrow messed up; the argument is that Burrow shouldn’t have to score 40pts to win a game. 34 should be enough, even with a pick-six.
How could Taylor call a pick 6?
Is he stupid?
He didn’t have to be. He needed to not throw a pic six followed up by a pic. However those things happen. Joe played amazing. Rest of the team did what they needed to do – just had some bad luck.
Through everything the teams been through this season now that Joe is back we’re merely to the level we were at 1 year ago.
The front office did absolutely nothing to improve a team that missed the playoffs in Joe Burrows prime. Inexcusable and people should be fired. Don’t wait until the offseason, start lining up replacements now.
I know they won’t but it’s what any not brain dead owner would do.
I feel like Joe is a cerebral and emotional dude, he’s talked openly about his struggles with mental health. With that in mind, this environment where the only way he can win is going superman is probably terrible for a guy like him who feels the weight on his shoulders. On one hand I love the dude for what he’s done for the Bengals and the success he’s had, on the other I can’t help but feel going to a better organization would’ve been way, way better for him personally. Knowing what we do about him, and my parasocial ass aside, he’ll end up fine. But it can be hard to watch, and this article reminds me of that.
I ain’t trippin on his performance yesterday, in fact he played well. Were there some overthrown balls? Sure. Did he throw back to back INTs? Yea. Is it his fault we lost? Absolutely not, it is a team game and there a hundred things the team could have done better not to put him in that position. Joey Burrr is still my QB, absolute generational talent that we as a team don’t even deserve. As a longtime Bengals fan I have seen much worse and not a whole lot better. Sit through the bad, enjoy the good.
For three years, the defense has effectively not worked. It is often barely present. That means Joe is under extreme pressure on every single play, because he knows that if something goes wrong, if he throws an interception, if they go three and out, the other team will most likely score seven, at worst three points. And yet, despite this constant pressure, he continues to play at an elite level. The two interceptions in the snow happen. But as OP rightly said, it cannot be that everything rests on Joe’s shoulders alone.
idk i think we should have a defense that forces punts but maybe thats just me
Exactly.
That first pick was ugly, but QBs throw picks.
Really good ones like Burrow don’t throw that many.
Good game yesterday all! Hopefully y’all can crush the Ravens again next week! Always classic games when we play
-Bills fan
I’m legitimately beginning to question the football knowledge of our fanbase when I see so much criticism of Burrow. It’s completely insane. We basically can’t win games without him and he’s somehow a problem.
It really is pretty embarrassing and makes me want to stop talking online about the team
