How the front office should be thinking about Kwan

I’d like to throw my flow chart in the mix:
We have Steven Kwan —> Extend Steven Kwan
steven kwan is a free agent in 2028. he generated 3.7 WAR last year. i love Kwan, i have a baseball signed by him. but really, what’s the point of extending him now?
i’d like to see a season where he doesn’t turn into a pop fly machine for a month straight
I would counter with “Do we have a realistic chance to win the WS”
Competing for a playoff spot isn’t even difficult. 85 wins is enough some years. If the team receives a “foolish overpay”, they should take it.
Having 2 MLB caliber hitters just isn’t good enough. People need to quit pretending like it is. The MLB league average OPS was .719, and we had TWO hitters who topped that. Kwan wasn’t one of them. Jose and Manzardo. That’s it.
The club should be open to anything that will infuse this offense with MLB caliber hitters at no less than 5 positions, 6 would be ideal.
We will never win a title trotting out a lineup of .580 and .600 OPS guys in 7 slots in the batting order.
I tend to think we’re at the point in the flowchart where his value isnt real high. I agree, if someone wants to overpay then trade him. Otherwise I dont really see why extending him is necessary.
It is quite possible he wants to end up on the west coast and has no desire to extend in Cleveland. With the collective bargaining agreement he has that right, we also have the right to trade him. Jose has spoiled many of you thinking he is the norm and not an anomaly.
