Shohei Ohtani made a “big contribution” to former Dodgers teammate Gus Varland, whose mom was battling cancer a couple years ago. Dave Roberts saw her at the World Series supporting her other son, Blue Jays pitcher Louis Varland. She told him her cancer is gone.

Goddamnit I want to hate Shohei for the plane and this past WS, but I can’t. Seems like such an amazing human.
stupid sexy shohei making it impossible for us to dislike him
Cool, I still hate him though.
God Damnit Shohei I want to hate you so bad, even this world series it was hard to not love you
Lol America the shithole
Even major league ball players cant afford to fight cancer
Both fortunately and unfortunately, this is exactly what I’d expect from him. He will always have my respect. From how he fanboyed in front of Ichiro, to how he goofs off with Vlad at 1B when he gets on, to his generally seemingly amazing heart. The guy is a class act.
Fuck you to everyone in this thread that still hates on the guy because he didn’t pick our team.
A good deed is a good deed and when you have the ability to do that for someone else, we should all be so lucky to be able to do that.
Go give your balls a tug.
It’s absolutely crazy that two major leaguers couldn’t combine to pay for their mom’s treatments, and that it took a hundred-millionaire to make it happen. This is not a feel-good story, it is a horror.
That’s actually really classy by Ohtani there. He isn’t the one that literally beat us by himself so I withhold my vitriol and can appreciate this with zero irony.
Shohei and Freddy survived the Jays/Dodger rivalry. That’s it, no one else!
