Shohei Ohtani made a “big contribution” to former Dodgers teammate Gus Varland, whose mom was battling cancer a couple years ago. Dave Roberts saw her at the World Series supporting her other son, Blue Jays pitcher Louis Varland. She told him her cancer is gone.

  1. holy crap shohei leave some good deeds for the rest of us /s

    genuinely incredible person!

  2. Come on Shohei, make it easier for us to hate you. You have to give us something.

Cheat on your wife. Say something mean about your teammates. Get a DUI. Do *something*

  3. His brother Louis also pitched for the Jays during the WS and thankfully the mom is cancer free now. The rest of Doc’s comment:

“Ironically, that player we had, his brother pitched for the Blue Jays in the World Series,” Roberts added. “And I saw the mom during the World Series and I said, ‘How are you doing?’ And she said, ‘The cancer is gone.’ So, Shohei does a lot of great things, but a lot of what he does is on the downlow, quiet, so people don’t talk about it.”

  4. Great move from Ohtani, but why does a mother with two MLB sons need charity to afford treatment? Healthcare system really that bad even millionaires need gofundme?

  5. Imagine if all the athletes with his platform were half the quality human that shohei is.

  6. As a Rockies fan (yes we do exist) I have to have cognitive dissonance with Shohei.

I absolutely love the player and the person. Hate that he plays for the Dodgers.

  7. Between this, Freddie at Sick Kids in Toronto, and Teoscar, how am I supposed to hate the Dodgers?

  8. Pretty fucked up that woman with two professional baseball player sons needed donations for cancer treatment

  9. It’s a beautiful thing but I thought former Dodgers player and WS pitcher are more than capable of their family’s medical terms. I truly understands it’s always a big struggle for whole family(my family suffered same thing couple of years ago) but is it that expensive in America?

  10. Ffs man, I want to hate the Dodgers. But I’m not blind to all this kindness the 2 teams have shown towards each other behind the scenes. Can we please stop reporting on it cuz it’s really putting a hamper on my offseason hate fest.
