New York Islanders Postgame Availability | NYI 1 at FLA 4
I mean, obviously you can’t win them all, but uh I mean, I thought we fought hard. Obviously, uh you know, a couple goals there at the end. Um I mean, I think we just got to bear down on our chances, obviously. I think we we have a lots of chances. We just got to, you know, put the puck in the net. What are the positives of this team? Yeah, I mean, I thought our first uh two periods were, you know, pretty good. Obviously, the start they came out hard and then we adapted. You know, second period we uh you know, we we came out pretty hard. We got a goal there and um you know I think we just got to keep it going and like I said obviously a couple couple goals at Dan empty net. So um yeah I mean I think we just got to bear down our chances. How do you look at this weekend as a Yeah. Um I mean obviously to get uh you know two big wins and then um you know one loss. I mean obviously uh it’s been a great little road trip and we look to just you know keep learning and um you know go into our home stretch at home this week. Uh I think we need a little bit more. You know, we actually first two periods we were all right and we were, you know, didn’t give up too many chances, but um we just need a little more tonight to uh to win. Obviously bear down on some more chances, but um yeah, it was okay overall, but not enough to get the job done. What was missing in that third period? Um you know, I think we had a little bit of a push, but um again, probably not enough. I think uh we had a little bit of trouble sustaining offense tonight. You know, it’s a good team. They play well, they swarm hard. So, um I think generating a little bit more ozone time and couple more rush opportunities. Just how do you look at this backto-back set overall this weekend for your team? Uh it was good that we got got one last night. We knew it was going to be a tough trip overall. Um yeah, it was it was good we got two points last night. Now we just got to focus on going back home and being strong at home. Just seemed like the game was a little bit out of sync from the start. What What did you see? I don’t know if the game was out of sync. I mean, this is a team that plays, you know, like a heavy game and uh they shortened the zone. We talked about it before the game and that’s how they scored actually their second goal. Um it was I felt like it was an experience for our guys. I mean, I think we learned we’re going to learn a lot from a game like this to see how they play and the way they played and um we were right there till till the end. I mean, uh, I see a lot of positive in my opinion on this. Um, we had our chances. Um, we didn’t give a lot to them till I mean, they had a couple looks at the end when the game was out of hand. Marshon had a one, but um, I think that we’re going to grow from that game. I mean, and and knowing that we’re capable playing, I mean, with these guys, I mean, after the Verhigi goal, you seem like you swapped Homestream and Shabbanov just what is that just a learning moment for Shabbanov? I think it is. I think it is and sometimes a bigger guy and then um it’s it’s it’s a challenging schedule and backtoback game with you know back backtoback games within 24 hours. Um sometimes I mean it’s good to try different things and that’s all we wanted to do and and put Chev put on Simon instead of uh Shabby. Is that just a good example of, you know, how quick the NHL can be where, you know, he he takes an extra half second on that on the shot in the offensive zone and then suddenly, you know, the puck’s in the other end and and they’re scoring. Well, what’s your question? Like, but for Shabanov, is that just an example of how much quicker, you know, the NHL can be than than Russia on that? Sure, it is. It’s a learning. Absolutely. I mean, and I think he’s learning very fast and very well. Um, you know, he had some great flashes in the game and but I mean, he’s going to continue to learn and that’s the beauty of our game. What have you seen from Horvat’s line uh over the weekend? Um, I was very happy with him in tempo today. I mean, you’re going to say Bo was minus three, but I mean, at the end of the day, I mean, Bo is playing a big a major role playing as the top line night after night. And I thought I I thought that they did a good job. I mean, against the line they were playing, they had a couple chances and um but like I I think it’s the players that mentioned that I felt like we we could have been a little more connected and that’s something we didn’t do as well. I mean, today uh maybe because Shannon was talking about the back-toback games before the game. I don’t know if it’s that, but but overall, I mean, I feel like um that was a tough schedule. You know, we played Tampa twice. We played uh Colorado and here uh backtoback games. I mean, three out of four. That’s pretty good. And and we gave oursel a chance to get back in that game. I’m not saying winning the game, but get back in that game. Absolutely. With a team like that that for checks are hard, just how important are those outlet passes? And you talk about being maybe out of sync with those. Yeah. and and and support each other and I mean just chip it out or or just a bump play in the middle or a skin. I mean it’s it’s these are important place and I think that’s what we learned a

Islanders played mostly well against the two-time defending champ in their building on no rest from the prior game, without our #1 goalie, and without Pageau, Drouin, Romanov, Palmieri. All 4 of those injured guys are top 10 on the roster and they were out last night. Shows that our depth is stepping up and keeping games tight.
Really stupid scheduling, back to back less than 24 hour with travel?
I was at the game and am an Islander fan but a couple of mistakes cost them the two goals. Otherwise the Islanders played very well.
