Aaron Glenn Press Conference (12/8) | New York Jets

All right, good morning. Uh, no real updates um when it comes to injuries. I will have a a clear um update on that sometime later this evening and going into Wednesday. I will be there uh truly fill you guys in on uh everything when it comes to injuries. Uh when it comes to the game of yesterday, um I don’t feel any different even when getting a chance to watch the tape. Very disappointed on uh on how we coached on how we played. Um totally disappointed on, you know, the way that we were trending in a in a in a good direction. And um man, we just hit this this roadblock and and now as coaches and players, we have to get back to this get back to it. We got to flush this game. Um really talk about what our issues were and and move into a direction of getting ready to go play against a a team uh that’s playing very very well right now. So um but I’m truly confident in in in the coaches and players getting back to get back to work and uh flushing this game and and moving forward. So, um, any questions? After watching the tape, how did you think Brady performed? You know what? I thought Brady did some good things. Listen, he was put in a tough situation. Um, and it’s always tough for a backup quarterback um to actually go in and get the rhythm that he needs from not getting as many reps as you want to get during the week. Uh, but I thought he had truly command of the offense. Um, I thought he really had truly command of the huddle with the players. Um, again, it’s a tough situation because of the the the score at that point put him in a situation where he had to drop back and throw the ball probably a little bit more than we wanted him to. U, but I thought he handled that well. Hey Aaron, with with Justin, I’m not sure if you addressed on Friday or not um with the knee soreness. Did that come just kind of out of practice or was that how did that all unfold and how how serious did it seem? I was is he a possibility to be healthy this week? Well, I talked about that um how he felt some soreness on Wednesday. He was limited on Thursday and Friday he was out of practice and when I told you guys he was going to be an active for the for the week and we’ll see how he progresses going this week and nothing has changed with that. Aaron, will health be the only thing uh that determines your quarterback situation at this point? I mean, obviously you got two guys who are banged up. Yeah. Yeah. It’s going to come down to that. Yeah. We got to see um you know what guys are health enough to go out there and give us a chance to win. Would you go back to Justin if uh if he’s the healthy one of the two veterans? Um I’m going to play the guy that I think give us the best chance to win. Might you have to add another quarterback this week just to get through the practices, you think? Well, we’ll see how everything progresses during the week. Like I said, we got to see how the injuries are, you know, with uh with all our quarterbacks right now. It’s kind of a unique situation, Eron. You’re dealing with two quarterback injuries and then another quarterback who’s who’s really barely played. Yeah. Have you come across a situation like this in your coaching, you know, from your previous stops where it was just like so up in the air? Well, that’s the tough part about this job. This job is meant for tough people and um you have to make decisions on the fly every now and then and this is just one of those times we have to make a decision. You got to see how the guys are feeling. Um have a good conversation with those guys. have a good conversation with our docs and we’ll move forward from there. I mean, no one said it was going to be easy and you’re right, this is a um a situation even as an assistant coach, I haven’t seen a situation like this, but it is what it is. And um I have full confidence in our guys, you know, of of if they say they’re ready to go, they’ll be ready to go then without docs letting us know if those guys are really ready to go out there for us. Because of the importance of because of the importance of practice reps, is it your hope to have a answer like a situation to resolve on Wednesday so whoever it is could get Absolutely. Absolutely. And that’s that’s what these these first couple of days are for. You know, talking to the players and talking to the docks and see exactly where we’re at and the guy that’s going to give us the best chance to win. Those guy that guy will have the most reps. Aaron, is there any part of you that you know when a quarterback sits out for a couple games and watches like wants to see what Justin might do after to having a little time off and maybe he’ll, you know, react differently, play differently. Say that one more time. You know how when you know, are you interested at all in seeing what Justin might do if he gets another chance after sitting out and watching how the offense operated uh without him? I’m interested in in a quarterback that’s give us the best chance to win. Listen, these guys are all professionals and anytime they have a chance to go out and and and perform um with their teammates, that’s the only thing they think about. That’s the only thing I think about. I mean, what do what decisions do I have to make to give this team the best chance to win? Um, and that’s it. I mean, I I don’t know if I’m answering your question or not, but um, listen, we don’t play mind games with with players like that. You know, this is these guys are professionals and um, they work their asses off week in and week out and my job is to make sure that uh, with this team, I give them the best chance to win. So, whatever whichever quarterback that we have that’s ready to go, that guy got to be ready to go. Is there a chance that Garrett could be ready to practice this week? Well, we’ll see about that when we talk to the docs. Again, I get a lot of that information um later on today. Ag with with Isaiah Williams. Uh I mean, you you’ve g a little bit of you know, with some returning, I believe, in your career. Y and you’ve obviously been around some guys. What that that return yesterday seemed to have a lot of elements to it. was almost to a degree artistic I thought the way he slowed down you know work work his blockers and stuff. What is it about um him that that makes him so good doing that? He’s um and I think I’ve talked about this before. Um he’s a player that that I was very familiar with uh being in Detroit and um he’s a hard nose, hardworking. Um he works his craft um day in and day out. Um he understands the nature of being a returner and he understands how to set his blocks up. And I think a lot of that also has to do with the belief of all those guys that’s on that um on that return team of knowing that anytime Isaiah touches the ball, you know, there’s a chance that he’s going to score because of his knowledge of uh of returning. Um and I know early in the year he had some miscues and you know, but I do trust that player. Um and it is it is an art, you know, returning punts. But the thing is the belief of everybody that’s on that on that team at that time like you have to believe that that the return is going to score and our guys sustain their blocks. Um they work their ass off to make sure that they give him a lane to be able to run and Isaiah does a really good job with his vision to be able to see it and make the necessary cuts to go uh to um to go score. more. I’m assuming you you you’ve gone and seen that again on film this morning or whatever. Is that fair? Say that again. Just curious. I mean, since the since the game, have you have you looked at that particular return yesterday since since the game? Yeah. Yeah, I have. I’ll look at all three phases. Um and I will look at them again. But the one thing that and it doesn’t surprise me. It doesn’t surprise me at all even on even on kickoff return. And when you see those guys go out there, they’re excited to go out there. Um because again, they have a a belief that Kane and Isaiah will score um as long as they just do their job and sustain their blocks. Aaron, on um with some of the defensive issues, talk about some of these going back tackles or lack of turnovers, you know, that’s going to draw scrutiny on the coordinator. You know, that you were in Steve’s shoes in Detroit. Yeah. Um, I’m sure you had some times there early on where people with you. What how would you evaluate the job Steve has done this season and how many how many of these issues fall on him? You know what? Um, I’ve been in that position before and to me I was fortunate enough to have a coach that believed in me the same way I believe in in in Wilks. And the thing is I evaluate coaches at the end of the season as we continue to to talk and see how are we going to improve. Uh that’s offense, defense, and on special teams. Um but I I do know this, it is a team effort between coach and player. So I just don’t look at one person and say, “Okay, this is all on him.” No, this is collective unit. We even with myself and making sure that how I communicate the way I want things to look is offense and defense and special teams. So man, I told you guys this yesterday that I’m looking at everything. I’m looking at myself. I’m looking at the coach and I’m looking at the players. So um when it comes to a evaluation, to me, that’s how I look at from myself to the coach and to the players. So um and those conversations will always be kept in house between me and uh and the coordinators too. Tom with with Gary. Is that purely a medical decision whether he comes back now or you know because he That’s that’s medical. Yeah. I what the docs tell us what’s best for the player. That’s what I go with. Even though even though I mean he’s obviously a long-term part of your of your plans here. Absolutely. Um yeah, but those conversations will be with the doc going to be with Garrett and you know once we nail down those conversations um a decision be made after that. Thank you everyone. Thank you coach. All right. Thank you. Garrett, what’s your what’s your player plan today? Oh, got it.

  1. Leave Brady in! Let the kid get his reps and play. I think he can do big things from what I saw yesterday. He takes chances, has a hell of an arm, pretty accurate he can read a defense decently, takes control, runs through his progressions, seems comfortable, and can extend with pressure. Let Brady COOK baby!

  2. affirmative action aaron proudly wearing his st
yized eyewear……..shivin and juckin beein so happy he got his money,, limp kneed jet press corp playing their role of affirmative action enablers not daring to ask why his team was unprepared after 13 games

  3. I would play Brady the rest of the season. Give the kid playing time and see what we have in him. He might could be a future backup. It’s not like it matters if we win or not the rest of this season.

  4. Start Cook the rest of the way. He's got good fiery energy. The team needs that. Then there's McDaniel's playing chess against your checkers especially on D. Hopefully that was wakeup call #10.

  5. Fire Glenn get rid of cook and rod and build receivers around fields, if you truly believe that a guy who was incredible in college… Can digress in the NFL you are unfortunately mistaken, and should probably start watching another sport as you clearly don’t understand football. The truth is that fields is a wonderful quarterback when he is given opportunities, anyone who watched DJ Moore and fields on the Bears back in 2023 can attest to him being able to put up the numbers he had in college with the right receivers. It’s quite clear that he is literally the best player on the team and because they are not able to win he is apparently the problem, but with the basic understanding can see that there is nothing he can do with the current team he chose.

  6. You know what Glenn needs to do ? Go watch some more film, and after that go chop some wood. You know I don't understand it they had such a good practice . They need to get better, but I am afraid to late season is over thank the lord.

  7. Media fishing for headlines instead of actually asking legit questions…who cares about the QB this year, we know the answer isnt on this roster. How about asking more questions about the defense and the front 7 (specifically the Linebackers) who get blown back 4 yards every run play? Why sherwood has regressed and seems like a liability on the field? The lack of production and missed tackles from the safeties? Why we dont utilize more down lineman to help stop the run? This is just low tier reporting

  8. Huh?!🤔 Please oh please do not start Justin ever again. My faith helps to me understand that he is a great young man and at the same time has issues as a starter at QB in the NFL.

  9. some of your fans are the reason the Jets can't get anything done…some of you are either bots are not true Jets fans… We need an O-line and defensive pieces more than we need a new QB… way more drafting a QB should be the last thing we do…I can tell some of you have never played sports are understanding what it means to be a leader of men or organization…Cook is were he needs to be there is a reason he went UDFA…we have a new OC who needs to dig in and build… all of this divisiveness is straight laughable….
