One of the MOST REMARKABLE double plays you will EVER see 🤯

[Applause] Rester is a ground ball pitcher. Brewer set up for two and Muny skies one to center field. Hit well. This one’s got a chance. Fil going back to the wall. He leaps. It’s in and out of his glove, but he caught it. And now chaos on the bases. Might have a play at the plate. The throw. Not in time. No, he’s out. He’s out. It’s a force play at the plate and he is out. All of this is going to be reviewed. It It’s only a force play if he didn’t catch it. Catch it. I don’t think they know. Also, did he leave early? Once it hits the glove, you can leave the base. It hits the wall. It’s a first play then. It’s the first play. It’s going to be a force play. It’s no catch. It hits the wall off his glove. And now it’s a force play at home. Let’s see. And the throw beat him. So you’re going to have bases loaded in two outs. Three outs cuz ran to third. He ran to third for another force. For another force. Wow. I mean the catch was the second out at the plate would be the third out. No catch back. No catch. Force play and then the play at third. Wow. What a play. What a wild play. The guys the guys in Chelsea, their heads are called on the field was safe. Tonight’s replay review powered by Zoom. Now that ball glanced off the wall which kept it live. Crew chief is James Hoy. The last This is crazy. Two seasons this Brewers team has a knack for stealing home runs or getting it back in play. So right here that’s going to be your fourth play at home. Yeah. Live ball first out. That’s your second out. second out and then you said Contrus ran to third. Yes, ran to third. Just pretend pretend it’s a one hopper to the center fielder even throws it to the plate. This is the sequence here. So now keep your eye on Will Smith at second. Okay, you know the out at the plate is good. That’s a force. Here’s the out. [Applause] Keep an eye on that cuz now we got to get a better Yeah, he was to beat Smith. You saw Smith jogging. So, if that’s the case, two outs and out of the double plus. One of the craziest plays you’ve ever seen. Remember Ortiz’s throw right on the money. Something on it. Absolutely. And right here you can see, look at Joey Ortiz telling, “Give me the ball. Come here and step on third.” That’s going to be your third out. Durban, Caleb Durban, the third baseman, knows it the whole way. This is James Hoy as they work this out in New York. Waiting on the word from New York had to adjudicate this. Did we see what did the umpire out in the outfield said? I I didn’t see that because cuz they usually say after you the call on the field the force out at home plate is confirmed. The runner is out. confirmed on the runner at third base when the force out is out. Wow. Whoa. What Dave Roberts is going to argue is that even though there was a force out at home, no one signaled to where their base runners could play. It’s going to go eight, six, two, unassisted to third. One of the wildest plays in baseball playoff history right there. [Applause]

  1. That's the thing about baseball, you get these once in a lifetime plays. Incredible. I was following the game on my laptop and couldn't really imagine what happened based on how they wrote it up.

  2. Even if the throw home was not in time for a force, Contreras still could have thrown to third for a force and that fielder thrown to second for a force and the Dodgers still wouldn't have scored a run, correct?

  3. Contreras knew exactly that it was a force out at home. He didn’t even attempt to apply the tag. And right away got up and got the force at third.

  4. Ok so I know this wasn’t the case here but what if the fielder intentionally let the ball out to hit the wall and re-caught? Would they argue it was a caught ball and not a hit

  5. Many did not know that the instant the ball glanced off the glove and touched the wall, there could be no popfly out. Even the tiny, glancing touch of the ball on the wall eliminated the fly-out.

  6. The force out at 3rd base was not needed. The batter was out at 1st base for occupying a base that was already occupied by a front runner. That was the 3rd out of the inning

  7. Runner on third, less than 2 outs and a deep, deep fly to center. Really a typical sac fly. How did the runner not leave third as soon as the ball hit the center fielder’s glove? Dumb base running and possible poor coaching? If the runners thought it was a homer then they could have started trotting. Otherwise it was a typical sac fly situation for all three runners.

  8. I have followed baseball for more than 60 years, I've attended hundreds of MLB games and watched probably thousands more on the tube, and I can honestly say that this was one of the craziest plays ever! The catcher running to 3rd base was just icing on the cake.

  9. First the Orioles turn the Dodgers' 3-0 ho-hitter with two outs in the 9th into a 4-3 win for Baltimore in September. Then this happens to the Dodgers in the playoffs. That team is jinxed big time.

  10. In case you were trying to keep track. They actually got three outs… the catch… the play at the plate and the force at third. Only two counted because they already had one out.

I think I have that right… not sure.

    Crazy play.

  11. THIRD BASE COACH – WATCH THE LEFT FIELD UMPIRE VERY AMAZINGLY SIGNALED NO OUT ON THE ATTEMPTED CATCH, AND THEN SEND RUNNERS. third base coach did but 2nd base baserunner smith sent himself back, the 1st base runner and the hitter back…. WOW WHAT A CRAZY INSANE PLAY. EVERY BASE COACH IN MLB IS GOING TO BE LEARNING FROM THIS ONE FOR PLAYOFF GAMES WHERE YOU HAVE EXTRA UMPS.THE UMPS CALLED IT PERFECT…If there were no outs it would have been a triple play. This will go down in history and will be reviewed and studied a lot. The baserunners are not used to playoff scenarios where there are extra umps in the outfield. They have to watch the play and judge. But this play was split second insane, almost impossible to see if the ball hit the wall. It really looked like a bobbled catch. In a split second it hit the wall before the catch. This one will make the history books.

  12. They should show this footage at ALL umpire schools and training as an example of what to do. Gotta give the umpires credit, they got the call right on the fly. What a crazy play!!

  13. This is a play for the history books. How Baseball never ceases to amaze us all, when the players don't even realize what happened, and yet they do what they are simply taught to do, just in case, and the Umpires made the calls right and it all worked out judiciously.

  14. Blunder by the runner at third. No reason to off the base on a deep fly ball when you’re the runner on third with less than two out. You’re going to score easily whether the ball is caught or not. Plant yourself on the bag and wait until the ball is caught or falls in.

  15. That was the greatest and luckiest missed catch resulting in a double play in the history of ML Baseball. great play calling also to immediately call the chaos on the bases!! wow that chaos caused the double play. heads exploding after, the announcers called it. one inch higher that is a grand slam. heads exploding. shotani trying to understand it all HAHA and the look of terror in Frelick's eyes on the throw. should be archived in MLB history. One of the most amazing plays in the history of MLB.
