NHL Highlights | Red Wings vs. Canucks – December 8, 2025

Can you imagine how amped up he is to go? He’s been waiting months to play this first game. He’ll have to wait a few moments because the Canucks start with David Comp between the former Redmond gets a return pass. Throws it in front. Went right under the stick of Brock Besser. Now Hughes long shot by Besser. Right pad save. Gibson the P. Sandy Pel sends it deep into the Vancouver Zump moves in after his own dump. And here’s Patrick Kane who had the winning goal late against the Kraken on Saturday night. Shot towards the goal deflected stopped by Lang and it steers the puck to the corner. Patrick Kane is there. Leaves for Alex Brink who had an overtime winner in this field last year for Detroit. Wings lose the puck. Latu brings it ahead with a pass to keeper Sherwood steps around his man on the right wing. That was to break it. He took a bit of a tumble but he seems to be all right. The Wings are on the puck. looking for their own zone. Axel Sandine Pelica around to the far side. 2015 16 the last time they made the postseason. David Kent around for Connor Garland. Centers Besser. Nice save there by Gibson. Besser’s got one goal in his last 11 games. Yet it seems game after game he’s starting to get chance after chance. I love this because he took the pass from Garland and there was no hesitation. this. He hits it. Evander King’s pass blocked. He gets the puck again. Throws it in front. Here’s a chance. And Rocha went between the legs trying to put it on the forehead, but he you know there’s no chance it’s going in and he tried to flip it up. Maybe get a lucky bounce. There’s a save by Gibson off Lenus Carlson right off the face off of Tyler Myers back for the punt. Just past the fiveminute mark. First period. Arch deep. Baines moves it. Baines to the middle. Homelander shoot. Stopped by Gibson. The ratu goal off the skate. But yeah, I know it’s a moot point now. It it is, but that was not distinct to me. There’s a shot by the brush, stopped by John Gibson. Kind of you’re looking at a season that’s in the 30point range. And you know, now you’re starting to talk about Ratu in a different light. There’s a shot by Okconor. [Applause] Garland in with Cissone. Dumps one across. De Brus gloves it down. He shoots off the glove of Gibson and just wide of the goal. What a great play. Quick hands. Canucks latest best chances. Jake De Brusk taking this deflected pass with his hand and throwing it down. He makes one little move and he wants that’s almost the shootout move. Patrick Kane gets the puck. Debris gets blocked that hit. Hughes in the back, I think. And here’s Hodlander rink wide for O’ Conor into the middle. Tyler Myers wrist shot stopped by Gibson. Rebound cleared to the I can’t take that as a loss. I just I refuse to take it up with Curtis. I will. Here’s Ras Mus on the left. Comp. Oh, came to the side and they tuck it in. James Van Remstead with quick hands in tight. His first bid didn’t go but he tucked it in on the backhand and it’s one nothing Red Wings 9 draft. Patrick Kane was the was the first 2007 draft. Patrick Kane was the first pick. He hangs around the front of the net. He’s got really good hands. The one-handed pass to Van Reamike. The first one stopped and he sticks with it. That’s a goal in four straight games. And Van Reike is you’re starting to get into this thing. Starts the Conucks. Each of those games have tallied only once. And they’re down one here as we start period number two. A little set play off the draw and Garland moves in on the left wing. Wrist one towards the goal. Blockered away by Gibson as he did on that first power play. He adds off with the puck. And here’s De Bras with a step on the left wing. Jake Frost shoots off the underside of the crossbar. Oh, you can’t get any closer than that. Is staring at that stick like what’s the issue here? That beats Gibson clean. underside of the bar as you called shorty and it bounces. Pass down to Bessel. Quinn Hughes in the blue line. Here’s Garland top of the circle. Puts one in front and a long goal. De Brush. Oh, what a save by Gibson. Pass the other post. This is the redirection from Sherwood. And look at De Brusk’s got all kinds of time. Five minutes into the second. Here’s EMTT Finny in with a wrist shot attempt that ricochet to the goal. Ling the save. Fine after lo gets it behind the goal. still with the puck now. Ratu just lit it wide and Gibson calmly pokes it to the side. Ratu at the blue line tries to draw tipped by Sherwood and stopped by Gibson. And good job by Camp to stay on side as Besser moved in. Besser long wrist shot attempt on the stick and Meer centers the puck backhander and that was stopped by Gibson as Garland with his back to the net. Drew O’ Conor couldn’t get it past the Brinket at center. Here come the wings and a good job by Heronic to lift the stick of Kane as he was about to send CP in. Now Kane gets the puck again. Here’s the brinket to the side. Center tipped in by Cop. What a pass there as the puck was thrown in front by Axel Sandine Pelican and Cop had just a tap in to make it two nothing. Just three on the year, but a misplay in the middle of the ice as O’ Conor loses the puck. Herona can’t clear it. And Kane’s done this forever. Look at him stop. Basically, when he stops, everybody else stops. He finds to bring it to Sand Dean Pelica and Andrew Cop, who started the play in the middle of the ice, is wide open in front of the net. And there’s no chance for Kevin Lankin in. And the Wings a two nothing lead here despite being outshot 17- 10. They have the puck again for something. Sodom turning in the corner. Leaves there. Pass to the blue line. Long shot tipped in from right on top of the crease. Nate Danielson able to deflect it past Lanken. And the Wings score two goals in under a minute to take a three nothing lead. The Canucks have had all kinds of chances that have had deflected pucks that have been stopped by Gibson or just missed the net. This time Danielson their first rounder called up in November scores his second NHL goal. This long point shot is tipped and goes right through Lanken and quickly Garland gloves the puck down puts it to the middle comes all the way across. can’t dozen seconds to go in the period shoots and getting a piece of that and turning it over the glass again was John Gibson and was very good on Saturday night stopping 28 of 30 against Minnesota in the 42 win over the Wild played offside here but doesn’t matter as Hughes makes a nice pass to Beans in the middle Cisson shoots and again Gibson stayed with him he’s going to take one step to his left. What he does when he takes this step to his left is he takes himself out of the scoring area. He lost 10 ft going to his left. If he stays more in the middle of the ice, catch stood up, but he got the better of that one with Bernard Dockers. He backhanded the puck in. Jake de Bruss behind the net for Neils Hoglander. Centers run robbed by Gibson. Moider knocks that away. There’s the Gibson stop that off the Hoglander pass. Gibson Connor Garland makes a nice move to get around Lucas Raymond Besser takes his pass spins inside the line crossing camp relays Peronic to the net and that hit the mask or the shoulder of Gibson coming around the outside. Here’s the room. Heronic’s got room out there. Oh, he hits him right on the goes across. Meyers round the net trying to wrap around and Gibson got across with the right path. Here’s Evander Kane shooting stick save. Rebound O’ Conor stop. Loose puck. Sherwood crashed the crease. Garland stick hand in seven. Lost a puck and escapes. Here’s Larkin with an empty net. Dylan Larkin scores. Four and a half to go. And Larkin from center ice makes it four nothing Detroit. 16th of the year for Dylan Larkin. [Applause] Garland gets a little tied up here. He’s now he’s in trouble. The puck’s in his feet and Larkin will take the little drop pass from Lucas Raymond and the wings. Oh, Raymond got contact in center. He’s floating it up as Kane moves in with a shot over the net. Sherwood’s going for the hit in the middle of the ice and he catches into the middle of the body of Lucas Raymond. He goes around Cider. Raymond doesn’t see him and he makes contact. That was Sherwood, I believe. I mean, they all went to Sherwood. I was looking out in the corner here. Didn’t see it. I didn’t see it either. And there’s a stop by Nikita Toapilo who robbed Mo Cider in tight line. Here’s Max Son out of the penalty box. He puts one in front. Meyers kicks it up to a stick, tries a shot, blocked, loose puck, and that’ll do it. John Gibson, who started his career with a shut out in this building back in 2014, [Music]

Axel Sandin-Pellikka had two assists while John Gibson was outstanding, saving all 39 shots he saw to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-0.

  2. This was not the result I was expecting, and definitely not what I wanted. Not only did the Canucks got goalied in this game, they are struggling to get back-to-back wins. Not a single one since October 19. Giving credit to Gibson tonight, he absolutely was locked in.

  3. Probably the best game Gibson has had after weeks of deflected shots going in. It looks like the wings are ready to streak during the holidays

  4. Leaving Lanks out to dry twice in under a minute all by himself with a Det player right in front alone.. brutal. Pulling goalie with 5 mins left in third.. who does this? Vancouver Canucks have no coach.

  5. Pathetic defensive effort aside, Alvin fell for the oldest trick in the book. A guy like Lankinen has one good season after being mid his entire career with no track record for consistency, get's a large contract for a long period of time for a backup and goes back to being mid. Not his fault, I don't blame him for getting his bag, but knew Lankinen was going to regress this year. Not that it mattered in this one cause Gibson decided to go back to 2018 and play like an elite goalie again.

  6. Boy "Fitzi" must be rubbing his hands in glee. The price for Hughes just keeps going down. To think that at one point he was compared with Makar. I know that won't be a popular take but people who deny this don't watch Avalanche games.

  7. There was a sequence in the 2nd period w 7 or 8 minutes left where in the o-zone PKane forcefully won a puck battle. Then like 10-15 seconds later the other way he backchecked to prevent a grade A scoring chance. It was a magical sequence defying all expectations. Maybe awood will include it, otherwise I will have to torrent this one to clip it.

  8. To the Nucks fans a sure thing top 3 pick as the worst team is way better than meaningless wins. Most teams get meaningless wins that do not benefit anything and many it hurts them way more than losing. A sure thing top 3 pick that can be kept or a trade down is a massive unfair advantage if used properly.

  9. Canucks played well, but Lankinen didn't. They made a couple of mistakes but that's when your goaltender has to bail you out. Gibson was a brick wall this game and got a well deserved shutout.
