MAJOR Giants Rumors on Mike Tomlin & Marcus Freeman

There’s been a lot of talk about Mike Tomlin and the New York Football Giants, and Adam Shfter has the latest on the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach. And there’s also some rumors heating up around Marcus Freeman and Big Blue. We’re going to dive into all that on today’s show. But I want to hear from you in the comments section right now. Do you want Mike Tomlin as the next head coach of the New York Football Giants? Type Y for yes and for no. [Music] Are the Pittsburgh Steelers going to fire? Mike Tomlin. Adam Shfter has some inside information on that. You’re watching Giants Now by Chat Sports and I am your host Marshall Green. Adam Shfter put out this article saying the Pittsburgh Steelers are not going to fire coach Mike Tomlin, but they have a significant decision to make early next year. After this season, Tomlin’s contract will have two years remaining, 2026 and a team option in 2027. But according to league sources, the Steelers must decide whether to pick up the option on Tom Wood’s contract by March 1st of 2026. There will be organizational meetings and decisions that occur, but not until after this season with a full body of work for all appropriate parties to review. sources said this contract for Tomlin where he has two years left but the 2027 year is a team option is very similar to a rookie’s contract in the NFL when it comes to their fifth year option in the NFL when you draft a rookie you have to make a decision on their fifth year after their third year and with Tomlin you have to make a decision on the 2027 year following the 2025 season so look I understand that Adam Sheper is saying the Steelers are not going to fire Mike Tomlin. And honestly, I never thought that that was a reality that we could be living in. It always came down to this. It would need to be a mutual separation. A separation where we get to maybe Black Monday for instance after week 18 and let’s say the Steelers miss the playoffs. That is what could fuel this. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers meet. The Steelers say, “I’m not going to pick up your 2027year option.” And Tomlin says, “Well, I don’t want to be the coach of the Steelers in 2026 as a lame duck head coach.” Then the two could agree to a mutual separation and then a trade or the trade gates could be open and that is where the New York Giants could step in. That’s always been the case. So, how the Steelers fare down the stretch will be important. And if you are someone like me who wants Mike Tomlin as the next head coach for the New York Giants, you should be rooting for the Steelers to lose every single game on the rest of their schedule, hopefully missing the playoffs. And even if they do make the playoffs, they lose in round one. Even if that were to happen, I still doubt and don’t believe that the Steelers would fire Tomlin. They don’t really fire head coaches. I again reiterate the point that it would be a press release of the Steelers and Mike Tomlin are separating after 18, 19, however many seasons it’s been. Or you will see that the Steelers are not picking up the option on Tomlin for 2027 and they are working towards a trade for another team. And as we know, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants front offices and ownership are closely related. Kate Mara, actress known for uh her work in the House of Cards and Fantastic 4, is the great granddaughter of Tim Mea, the founder of the New York Giants. Kate Mara’s mother is Kathleen Mea. Kathleen Rooney Mara is the daughter of Dan Rooney, longtime Steelers owner and former US ambassador to Ireland. and the granddaughter of Art Rooney Senior, the founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. So, in short, Kate Mara’s father’s side equals the New York Giants, the Mara family, and Kate Mara’s mother’s side equals the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Rooney family. So, there’s actually some blood relationships between the Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers. This is what it boils down to. The Giants, if they want to hire Mike Tomlin as their next head coach, they need a couple of things to happen. First being the Pittsburgh Steelers not picking up the team option. Second, Mike Tomlin wanting out of the Pittsburgh Steelers and then Mike Tomlin wanting to get traded to the New York Giants. You’re going to need all three of those things. And if all three of those things do happen, I am going to be thrilled about it because if available, Mike Tomlin is my number one choice to be the head coach. It always felt like it was a very slim possibility that this was going to happen, but with his 22nd win over John Harbaugh and the Baltimore Ravens and it seeming like the Steelers still have a shot to punch their tickets to the playoffs, that percentage keeps on going down and down and down. Whereas maybe we turn our focus to another AFC North head coach, and that is John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens. like Tomlin and the Steelers. There is a world where I don’t really see the Ravens maybe firing Mr. Harbaugh. I think it’d be a similar situation where Harbaugh and the Ravens have agreed to part ways. It has not been a good season for the Baltimore Ravens as they sit at 6 and seven and on the outside looking in of the AFC playoff picture. Now, if the Ravens keep on losing games, and if the Ravens miss out on the playoffs, I think that he could potentially be fired or no longer employed by the Ravens. Use whatever verbiage you want to make you happy. And if he is available, yeah, he’s he’s near the top, right behind Mike Tomlin of my dream head coaches for the New York Giants. And I don’t believe he says that without legit substance behind it. And as we know, Tim McDonald is very high up in the decision-making process for the New York Giants. And Tim McDonald would be one of the next men up if Mr. John Mara was going to hand off the decision-making power. Look, we are all rooting for Mr. John Mara to beat cancer’s ass. Um, but uh there’s also going to be multiple people involved in this. And Tim McDonald was at Notre Dame for eight seasons. I would not close the book on Marcus Freeman being a legit candidate. And I know there’s people joking out there. Well, didn’t you see Notre Dame declined to go to a bowl game and it’s so Marcus Freeman is scheduled as clear so he can interview for the New York Giants. That that’s a joke and I understand that. But in every joke, there’s always a small shred of truth. And I do believe the New York Giants will request to interview Mr. Marcus Freeman. Question is, will coach Freeman decide to accept an interview? As we inch closer and closer and closer to the playoffs in week 18, the coaching search is going to heat up and heat up and we will be getting some more inside information as well as rumors and news along the way.
