Watch the full video to see how it all unfolds. with the big man match up in this one. Yeah, I I love to see skilled bigs dueling down low. kind of a throwback in some ways, but there’s still plenty of physicality in the Marvin game. A look at the San Antonio Spurs opening lineup. Up in the front court, it’ll be Vistel and Barnes. Fox is out there with Castle and it’s Wyama in at the pivot spot manning the middle. Now here’s Aton following the miss shot by De’aran Fox inside. Here’s Hatimura and the dunk by Hatimura and proving to be effective around the rim. Hakimura leaving no doubt about that. Fox passes to Vel and stolen by Eaton. Now Reeds to the inside. Here’s Aton. Good for the basket. Starting off one for one with that shot through the defender. Aiden, he’s going to get his. We played just over a minute here in the first. Let’s check in with our reporter David Aldridge. Well guys, I briefly spoke with the Lakers head coach. He had a list of concerns coming in tonight, not the least of which was matching up with Dearron Fox. He said it’s not just the speed, though that obviously is an issue. It’s that Fox has also become so good at dictating tempo and getting you to play his style. That’s something they can’t allow. Kevin, thank you, David. Yeah, Vel looking comfortable and confident from the corner. Here’s Reeves. pass to Donic. Fox with the steel and now the fast break. Fox with the ball. Yep, that one goes and that’s an example of playing big, adapting to the situation. Also relying on his skill there. That’s a nice move against Lang here in the first quarter with about two minutes gone by. Reeves outside. Back to Donic and they double up. Donic from deep LeBron. Good. And the assist goes to Don. When you’re guarding LeBron, you have to give him something. So the King, well, he’ll take a three-point basket. The Spurs have gone two or three here to start out the game. Fox finds Wenyama. can’t hit the step back jump shot. You can’t look at the result of that shot. They’ll take that whenever they get it. Yeah, it’s a great look for him. One, they’ll try and manufacture. Again, those are the shots you want him to take. What determination from Donic pushing his shot through despite some stiff defense to draw the foul. Lakers shooting their first shots from the stripe in this game. And just to mention, a season ago they were very comfortable at the line hitting about 78% of their free throws. That free throw good from Donic. And something you see with the Lakers, they really trust their role players, don’t they, Richard? Yeah, LeBron does a great job of empowering his group. That’s why he’s top five in the league all time in assists. If you earn his trust, he will give you a ton of space to work. The Lakers know that they can only go as far as their great group of role players. Both free throws good from Donic. Eyepopping talent from Donic. We don’t see many players with his size and skill set. San Antonio calls the first timeout of the game. And there’s Supreme Dreams. Very happy to be seeing the Lakers winning. And he’s a huge NBA fan and he puts out some really funny basketball related content as well. Now here’s Fox Vel outside. A three-pointer is right on target. Vel’s got six points. Vel has no conscience behind the arc. He will not hesitate to get it up. Outside three minutes gone here in the first quarter. The shot goes in. First shot first pass. And inside Luca knows the bucket is there so he is willing to fight for it. San Antonio with the ball. It’s a three-point game. Fox passes to Webyama. Here’s Vel. That drops. Nice feed that time from Webyama. He’s got eight. Yeah. Going hard to the rags. Making a statement here early on. Yeah, it’s nice to see him be assertive instead of settling for a jump shot, especially in the first quarter. Here’s Reeves following the bucket by the Spurs. Here’s James. Misses the layup. I thought he had that all sewn up, but somehow the defense just threw him off. Fox no good. And Reeds has got the ball here for the Los Angeles Lakers. Pass to Donic. Back to Reeves and he uses the glass on the lay. Hard work pays off with a rebound in a bucket. That’s just great fundamental. Here’s Castle. He’s defended by Reed. Spurs passing it around. Nice shot by Wignyama. No good. Lakers lead by three. pass to LeBron. Barnes grabs the miss. San Antonio’s gone two or three from deep so far in this game. Remyama gets the bucket. And I like when Wimyama is aggressive on offense because defenses feel helpless to stop it. Lakers have gone five and nine from the field here in the first. Donic outside. Aton sets the pick for Donic. Lets the free fly. The rebound by the Spurs. Wyama. Oh my goodness, man. And we talk about how Wimyama makes the wow plays. Wow. LA has gone one or two from long range in the first quarter. Outside James and there’s the call on James. That is his first foul of the game. Oh, great defense there. Anticipated the play and got there first. San Antonio leading. Here’s Castle. No scoring in this one. Remama a screen on Reeves. Remama outside. And he goes big with the dunk right over DeAndre Eaton. And this is what you want to see when attacking with authority inside. So, it’s the Lakers now. Ral Zum have argued that Wenyama deserved defensive player of the year consideration in his rookie year. And Kevin, I can see where they’re coming from. His team went from a bottom five defense to a top five defense when he was on the floor. His impact is amazing. I like this wrinkle. Put LeBron off the ball and then make a play for him. Vel against Hatchim for three and the basket by Vel. Vel’s got 11 points and an eye for an eye. Both teams working to stretch the floor. This is today’s NBA. Hey, we see this kind of exchange more often than not. Creating space. Naches will move defenders around. Barnes outside back to Fox. Vel outside. It’s stolen by Hatchima. Good. Nice job down low. Hatchim got his second bucket tonight. And taking a quick look here at the hustle stats for Los Angeles. From the very start of this game, they have been giving the ball handlers trouble, using good pressure to force turnovers and get steals. And guys, they’ve also done a great job generating offense from their defense, forcing turnovers and making the defense pay for those mistakes. Here’s Fox Ruy Hashimura picking up that last basket. Reeves in the corner. Honest on Fox. Six on the shot clock. Here’s Donic and it’s Fox with the rebound. San Antonio’s gone three of five from three-point land so far in the ball game. To the paint and stolen by Eaton. Pass to Hatchima. Three-pointer good. And the assist goes to Donic. Donic has got three assists in the game. So, it’s the Spurs now trailing by four. Up top, Fox guarded by Donic. You talk about the fastest players in the league. De’aran Fox is in the running. And I say that literally, Kevin, he is at his best when he is attacking the lane. He’s a lefty that is a tremendous finisher and his floater arguably might be the best in the game. And he makes the first. And for De’Aran Fox, his three-point shooting Greg has come a long way. In his rookie season, he only shot 30% on two attempts per game, but his volume and efficiency have both gone way up and it’s made him much more dangerous offensively. Looking at who’s out there now for the Lakers, Jackson A’s, he’s checked in for DeAndre Aton. James comes in for Hatchima. Kay Vincent, he’s checked in for Austin Reed. And Smart in for Luca Donic. And let’s head over to the sideline and catch up with David Aldry. Kevin, thank you very much. LeBron James is still dominating at an age where most players are well into their retirement. How does he do it? He said, “Show up, put the work in, and then go out and trust it. I’m just trying to push the limit. See how far I can take this thing.” It’s me versus father time. Kevin, back to you. And David, that’s one you’re always going to win against father time. Hey, thank you for the report. And San Antonio has possession after the basket by Los Angeles. Here’s Fox. Finds the hole for the second time from the floor. Now two for five. The mid-range jumper is a valuable weapon for Fox because defenses don’t always expect it. Smart dishes to LeBron. Pass to Vincent. lets it go. Rebound San Antonio. Very dangerous to leave a guy like that open. Lucky break there for the deep. And the dunk by Soan. He may not have that traditional power forward build, but his bounce, well, that kind of levels the playing field. Here’s James, and James throws it down. I’ll tell you what, I’m not sure these guys can keep this up. There will be some let down at some point, but these teams, they are built to score. So, Fox against Smart Pass to Cornet and Johnson out top of the key. And here’s Smart. Hasn’t made one yet. 23 seconds left in the first. James gets the bucket. And we talk about the importance of versatility. He’s really got it all on the offensive end. Smart against Fox. Pass to Champenny. There’s the screen. and chances defensively. Yeah, they’re putting pressure on all the ball handlers, getting into the passing lanes and showing great anticipation. Lakers leading by four. Luca Donets out there was smart. Then it’s James. Then there’s Hayes and it’s Labraia in at the power forward position. That’s the group for the Lakers to start the second quarter. And the basket is good. Just a typical selfless play from Smart. He’s all about team success. San Antonio’s gone three of six tonight when they’ve let it fly from downtown. So am the pass to Champenny. Here’s Wim Benyama and the basket for the fourth time from the field. He’s a healthy four for six. Yeah, and there it is again. On a lot of their possessions this first half, they’ve established great inside position. And here’s Tic from the arc. Rebound by Sohan. And he didn’t punish them for the weak coverage there, but they can’t count on him to continue missing. And pushing it up. Here’s Los Angeles. Cuts off the pass. And he’s fouled pretty hard on that shot, but he’s got the chance to pick up the points at the line. That one on Smart. RJ, so often with rookies, we want to judge them after half a season, but we’re not very patient with them. How long should we give players to prove themselves in the NBA? Well, there’s a different type of prove yourself. If you’re talking about a rookie, I was taught after about game 60, you’re no longer a rookie because you’ve played every team, you understand the defensive concepts, you might be a little fatigued, but after that, you’re no longer a rookie. But to judge them if they can play in this league, it can take a couple of years. So, Greg, the Spurs last year began 15 and 56, but it was the ending that they’re really hanging their head on. They won seven of their last 11 games. And over that closing stretch, Wimby averaged 27 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and five blocks. A small glimpse into the potential of this young superstar. Both good from the line that time. Just over a minute gone here in the second quarter. Hitch passes to Smart. Pass to Labraia. James right side. Five to shoot and the rejection by Ram Benyama trains the three-pointer and moving near the top handling the ball. Luca sneaking out to the corner there getting free for three to the middle. and Benyama passes to and too much time in the lane. They get called for the 3second violation and we got to take a second look to admire that outstanding block. And boy did he get up quick to reject that shot. That’s as fundamental as defense gets. Lakers leading by five. Pass to Hayes. Back to Smart and we’re about two minutes into the second quarter here. Here’s Donic. That misses off the backboard. And so it’s Johnson who brings the ball up for the Spurs. Smart against Harper. Here’s Webyama. Weama tough shot. When guys are moving the ball, sharing it, it makes the game so much more fun, both as a player and as a fan. And here is Los Angeles now. Outside Smart. There’s the pick. Honic. He tries for three. Hayes no good. Spurs trail by three. Shan Penny passes to Soan and two free throws coming up. Unable to get that one to go with all the content. I’ll tell you Richard, you watch Jeremy Sohan, he can really do it all. Yeah. Power forward by trade who’s even played point guard at time. He’s a great defender and a team player. He’s the kind of guy you win with. That one is off. Richard, last season marked the fifth consecutive year that the Spurs missed the playoffs. And this drought came directly after their historic streak of 22 consecutive playoff appearances. But the silver lining in this stretch is that it allowed them to draft a generational talent in winter. Andre check in for the Lakers. Austin Reeves comes in for Marcus Smart for Los Angeles. They’ve gone two of six on the field in the second quarter so far. And here’s Donic from the Ar. And again, the Lakers no good. San Antonio trailing here. Teardrop shot and he makes the bucket. gets the whistle and now a three-point play chance here for him. He knew what he wanted to do all along. The tear drops. The Spurs shooting their seventh attempt at the foul line in this one. At the line for the Spurs, one shot. And that one falls and that puts him up by one point. So it’s the Lakers now. Reeves with it. Donic outside. Reeves with the screen for Donic from downtown. Rebound by So and he continues to cast away, but the results just haven’t been there tonight. Remain right side doesn’t get it to drop for him. Los Angeles has gotten fewer than half of their three-pointers to go down tonight. They’re four for nine. Eighton against Johnson. Here’s Donic. Oh, Donic in traffic. And the level of concentration that Donic has even under pressure. This guy is cool as a cucumber. Here’s Sohan. Solid play in the low block. And that one’s good. So’s got six in the quarter, guys. What a tight start to the game this has been. And it’s still in the first half. This could be a wild one. Pass to Donic. He’s looking for Remyama and finds him. One-on-one fast break. Barnes looking around. It’s tipped. Here’s Donic running at full speed. Donic. The skill of Donic at 67 230. It makes him an impossible matchup defensively. And the Spurs with possession. Here’s Castle. He has yet to score. Johnson finds Wyama. That’s in coming off an assist from Johnson. And the Spurs lead by one. If the defense lets him inside, he will not hesitate. He’ll gladly drop that thing right in the cup for Los Angeles. They’ve gone 4 of 10 in the second quarter from the field. And here’s Donic from the arc. Basket made. That gives him seven field goals in 13 tries. And the defense has to be aggressive with Luca from range. Give him any space and he is looking to pull. pass to Sohan and right away they match it with a three-pointer of their own. So’s got 11 points. Los Angeles has gotten cold from deep in the second quarter. Just two of six from long range. And here’s James out. Hits the three-point bomb. Nine points in the game so far. And we’ve seen several lead changes tonight. Neither team giving an edge. I’ve been on the edge of my seat courtside man and this has been a barn burner. Dunic right side and that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. It’s going to be on Victor Webyama. And you know what? You allow a guy to get right to the rim like that, that’s your only option. He’s getting his first free throw attempt of the night right now. And you know, you’ll take what he can give you from the free throw line. Looking at his numbers, just really not one of his strengths. Shooting in the low 60s last season. And the first one drops. And some changes here for the Lakers. James checked in for DeAndre Aton. And it’s Hachimura in for James. San Antonio also making some changes. Luke Cornett, he’s checked in for Webyama. Vel comes in for Sohan and it’s Fox in for Johnson. Good job. And that one goes in. Two from the line that time. Spurs trail by four. Barnes outside against Viscell. Fires from deep. That one will not drop. It’s his first miss. He’s four for five. But Greg, I’m sure their coach is very pleased with their offensive flow right now. I mean, it’s harder than it looks to get it going like this. Now they just have to maintain it and making it look easy. LeBron overwhelms the defense inside. And here’s Fox. He’ll bring it up for the Spurs. Barnes outside. Back to Fox. Six to shoot. His shot is good. scores his third basket in six tries, shooting 50%. The defense comes at Fox hard, but he’s ready for it. He knows how to stay agile and nimble inside. Lakers leading by four. Pass to Hayes. Floats it up for James and stolen by Barnes. Fast break. Here we go. All along. Nice finish. Oh, he got fancy with that one. Yeah, maybe trying to give them the momentum boost they need to break this game open. LA’s gone for the three-pointer seven times here in the second and been successful three times. The three for Dungeons. Rebounded by the Spurs. Vel outside to the wing right side. Here’s Castle guarded by Donic. Shot clock at six. Here’s Vel. The kick out to Fox. Gets the three-pointer to fall. Fox has got 11 points. A smooth looking three-point shot. I think Fox is feeling it. Two minutes remain on passes to Hayes. Donic feeling it out and again no good by the Lakers. San Antonio’s gone five of 10 from downtown tonight. 50% exactly. Vel finds Fox. There’s 138 left in the second quarter. It’s rebounded by Hayes. Hayes has got his fourth rebound in this one. Don Chich with the strong move inside. It has been nip and tuck through the first half. Exactly, guys. The way it’s seessawed back and forth. Unbelievable. San Antonio trailing here. Fox passes to Vel up top. Fox guarded by Donic. Fires for three. And again, it’s the Spurs for We’ve seen Fox take over games before. Only takes a few shots to go and then this man is feeling it. And JJ Reick calls timeout here. He wants to check in with his team and regroup. And the Lakers making a change here. Eighton’s checked in. Los Angeles has gone past the three-point line for 13 of their shots. Six of 13. And he’s good on the three ball. Donic has got 23. And Donic used to creating kind of a luxury for him to simply catch and shoot. A tight game here in Los Angeles. Barnes outside. Vel outside shoots over Himura. And it’s San Antonio with another. And the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Yeah, as soon as these guys feel contact, they are just disappearing like they’re not even there. You got to show some fire and keep defending outside. Fox screen on Donic. Three-pointer. Fox drills the three-pointer. Fox has got the lead up to four now for the Spurs. Yet another three. Once we hit the second quarter, it just seems as if those threes just started to fall like raindrops. Donic outside. Reeves outside. The shots good on the assist by Donic. Donic has got four assists now tonight. And an eye for an eye. Both teams walking, gentle here, guys. and the way that he has helped out with the ball movement has been a difference maker early on and it’s a role we don’t always see him in, but he’s done a great job tonight getting the rest of his team involved. We’ve got second half action for you. And if the next couple quarters are similar to the first, this one could go down to the last possession. On the floor for San Antonio, up in the front court, it’ll be Vel and Barnes. Castle is out there with De’aran Fox and it’s Wignyama in at the five down low and it’s Barnes with the ball for the San Antonio Spurs. They lead by one and the basket is good. Got it to go through on the contact. So a free throw coming up. Great opportunity for a three-point play. GA there is a lot to like about the game of Stefan Castle. Size, play making, defensive intensity. I guess the question is there that one thing that he can do at an elite level that will be a crucial step if he’s to become a star and that one misses LeBron against Barnes. Pass to Hatchima on the wing. Reeds gets the bucket and the foul. It’s going to be on Devin Bell. The floater is so tough to defend against. Nothing defenders can really do but shake their heads. And this is his first trip to the line tonight. Austin Reed. and the free throw. No good. San Antonio’s gone downtown 13 times in this game and they’re just over 50%. Seven of 13 on threes. This is why you always have to chase guys off the arc because everyone has a three-point shot. Now Lakers trail by four. Banjage outside. Back to James. Pass to Hatchima. Outside James. Reeves. The pass to Hatchima. Four on the shot clock. Rebound. San Antonio. Barnes has got his fourth rebound in this one. And oh boy, a lot of contact there, but he gets the call and will shoot two. The Spurs have gone six of eight from the free throw line tonight. Yeah, a year ago though, Kevin, 78% conversion rate from the free throw line. So that’s a nice allaround effort. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That’s good from Barnes. Barnes hits them both now. Here’s Donic. He’s got 23. Pass to Eightton. And a wide open look for Hatchima. Hangs home the trifecta. Him has got 10 points in the game. Just solid with the jump shot. Hachimura helps your offense in a number of ways. In that case, spacing the floor. Remyama right side and contact on the shot. So he’ll be shooting free throws here. That one on a Richard. During his rookie year, Victor Webbyama had a game with 10 rebounds, five assists, five blocks, and five made threes, a five by five for the ages. That was the first time someone put up those numbers in NBA history. Wimby is going to continue to do things we have never seen before. A generational talent for Wimbeyama. The sky is the limit and the reality. And both free throws good for Wimyama. Well, he’s come through for them at the line today. And you love having a big fella who’s so capable on his free throw. Donic finds Hatchima outside James. And another three for the Lakers. You got to appreciate LeBron’s shot selection. He looks to take high percentage shots whenever he can. San Antonio leading. Here’s Winyama. And it’s Renyama with the jam. And that’s how you lead a team, literally. Now, Donic. A little under two and a half minutes gone by here in the third. And a lot of contact on that one. So, he’ll shoot two here. It’s going to go on Dearan Fox. And so confident even amongst the trees. Donets is fantastic at forcing the issue close to the rim. Taking two shots. No good on that one. And the second free throw good. Second half of play with just under two and a half minutes gone. And here is Fox. He’s got 17 down low. Here’s Wimyama. And a monster game for Wimby with the matchup issues he creates. I’m not sure anyone in this league can stop him when he’s on. And the Lakers with possession here. Ronic outside. Got it from 16 ft. 26 points for Luca Donuch. And obviously his momentum from the last game has carried over here tonight. He’s just riding the wave of momentum right now. Getting to his spots and keeping things simple on the offensive side. Here’s Castle. He’s got seven. A second chance effort. Here’s Remyama. And they call the foul. So a chance at the line for one more coming up. And Wimyama is a massive player which comes in handy on that back court on the night. He’s gone two for two at the stripe and a year ago he was an 80% shooter at the line. So that’s more than acceptable. At the line for one one shot and that one misses. Lakers trail by five. And here’s Dash from the arc. And the incredible reach of Winyama helping him knock away that one. A sensational block that definitely deserves another look. And this is how you protect and grow a lead by making a huge effort on that end of the floor. Little under two and a half minutes off the clock now here in the third to the middle. It’s stolen by Remyama. And Remyama throws it down. So fluid off the bounce. When Donic with it. He’s got 26. Pass to Eightton. No one near Reeves as he lets it go. Buries it from three-point range. Reeves has got 10. And the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Yeah. As soon as these guys feel contact, they are just disappearing like they’re not even there. You got to show some fire and keep defending. LeBron against Barnes. Rambbeyama high post outside Fox six. Danic with the steel floats one. Danic muscles past the defense and great court awareness there. helps Luca find an opening. Then he just explodes on the drive. San Antonio’s gone one and two from beyond the arc since coming out of the break. Pass to Wemama. Barnes against LeBron. Barnes kicks to Bell. Five on the clock. Fires the three. Rebounded by DeAndre and I think that one could have easily have fallen for him. Reeves the pass to Eightton. Donic with it. Reeves outside and that won’t go. Missing the go-ahead bucket. And so it’s Vel who brings up the ball for San Antonio. A two-point game. Packs from outside. Rebounded by Deandree. Eightton’s got four rebounds now tonight. Donic outside. Pass to James. Himura with a screen on Barnes. James finds Hatchima. And now in transition, it’s Barnes. Here we go. Vel with it. He’s covered by Hatchima. Here’s Wimyama and foul on the shot. He’ll shoot two at the free throw line. Smart play there. I don’t think we give Wimby’s IQ for the game enough love, but he was a pro in France at a young age and that obviously gave him a lot of experience. Free throw good. When Benyama James checked in for the Lakers Johnson, he’s checked in for the Spurs. He hits both from the strike. Lakers trail by four and JJ Reick calls timeout here. He wants to make some adjustments to the game plan. Clearly, welcome to the legendary fantastic Lego girl. LeBron passes to Reeves. Tries the spin move from deep. James rebound. San Antonio. Remember Benyama has got his fourth rebound with that last one here tonight. Pass to Castle. Nobody near Barnes and the three ball is good. Barnes has got the lead up to seven now for the Spurs. Despite his relatively quiet night, they are still winning and that just shows this team is more than just about one guy. James finds Aton. Here’s Donic. Offensive rebound, Reeves. And good work on the board as they pick up the second chance points. Reeves has got 12. And you got to love the big bucket in the paint in this sort of a grind it out game. Fox passes to Barnes. Back to Fox. Remain off a screen on Donic. And there it is for him. Fox has got 19 points. So smooth. Fox is so good at repeating that stroke. LeBron outside. Reeves outside. Pass to Eaton. Lakers looking the ball around now. And it’s Donic missing. Spurs leading by seven. Remama left side. Now here’s Fox guarded by Donic and Fox gets it to go. Look at how planted Fox is. He’s primed to shoot the moment he gets it. Donic dishes to James. Renyama against Donic outside and Aaron Fox gets the whistle that time. And that’ll be his third foul so far. Jackson A’s. He’s checked in for the Lakers. Smart comes in for Donic. San Antonio also making a switch. So checked in. Here’s Smart. Scoreless thus far. Reeves with a screen on Johnson. Los Angeles with another miss. San Antonio’s gone two of five with a three-point shot since coming out of the break. The rim with an easy reach of Benyama. Watch outyama hammering that one home. Lakers trail by 11. Smart deciding where to go with it from deep. James gets it to drop and now he’s shooting at a five for eight clip. And they’ve got to talk to each other on be there. Miscommunication and now he’s able to make a pay. So inside working on James out of bounds. The Lakers will take possession. Vincent’s checked in for Austin Reeds and San Antonio with the change here too. Champenny’s checked in. Here’s Smart. There’s 126 left in the third. Hey, right here. James sets the screen for Smart. Pass to James. Good. And Smart gets the assist. Smarts got three assists in the game and so Fox will bring it up for the Spurs. They’ve led by as many as 11 points. Here’s Sohan now. Webyama over Hayes and that one off the back of the rim and in. Webyama has got 28 points for the game. outside smart and they double up James the tray shot is good and the Spurs lead is cut down to just four points with a bucket from Smart and perimeter scoring I have to imagine it was a topic of discussion at halftime and you see this so much more nowadays in the NBA teams putting a larger emphasis on jacking up threes here’s Fox that shot off the Good work defensively by Smart. 7sec difference shot and game clock. James a screen on Fox. It’s tipped. rebounded by Smart from deep three-point lands and the last Spurs leading by four. They’ve got James. Smart is out there with Luca Donic. Then there’s Hayes and it’s Labraia in at the four spot. That’s the Laker five to the paint. Here’s Wimyama. It’s hauled in by Los Angeles. Now, here’s Smart. Pass to Lavia. Back to Smart and he could not get that one to go. Lot of contact and he’ll go to the line for two. When it comes to the league’s most physical defenders, Richard, look no further than Marcus Smart. Yeah, he’s someone that has no problem sacrificing his body. Whether that’s taking charges or diving after loose balls, he is relentless. And that one falls for Smart. Love Marcus Smart is the pulse of the team. He plays with passion and does whatever his team needs from him. And so Smart nails both of them. San Antonio leading. Harper the pass to Champenni. Spurs working the ball around now. And Benyama outside. Nice jump shot from the top of the key. Wemama has got 30 points. And Webanyama’s ability to pick and pop from anywhere on the floor puts defenders on their heels. Hayes dishes to Donic. And the foul called on Victor Weimyama. That’s foul number two for him. Fourth quarter of basketball. We’re about a minute into it. And here’s James outside. Good for another basket. He’s put up 10 shots and made seven of them. He’s found his rhythm from deep and and you can see the confidence. And of course, it helps space the floor, which gives this offense more room to operate. Pass to Johnson. Lets it go from deep. That’s good. And it’s Remyama with the assist. Remyama has got three assists tonight. Lakers trail by four. Just about one and a half minutes gone by here in the fourth. Donic against Johnson. And again, it’s the Lakers. Oh, nice touch on Lucas mid-range there. The product of a lot of practice time and natural talent. Remyama a screen. And here’s Harper from the arc. And again, it’s the Spurs from deep. confident and composed on the three-point shot at a critical juncture. Now, Donic, go a floater. The rebound by Johnson. Spurs leading by five. Out to the wing. Stolen by Smart. Outside James. Rebounded by Victor Webbyama. Benignyama has got six rebounds now in the game. Right side Harper poked away. Maybe the most hyped teenager since LeBron James. Minyama is the poster child for Upside. Guys, what do you think about the offensive approach we’ve seen so far for the Spurs? Oh, they’ve done a lot of damage in transition. Every time they see a chance to push the tempo, they’re gone. And they’re also finding a good deal of their points off turnovers tonight. Seems like every time they come up with an extra possession, they find a way to convert. The first one falls and the Lakers with some changes. Vanderbilt comes in for Jackson Hayes and it’s Austin Reeves in for Smart. Castle’s checked in for San Antonio. And both free throws good for Wanyama. A little over two and a half minutes have passed here in the fourth quarter. Donic against Harford. Oh, Reeves in position. hammers the alley through. Hard to decide which is better the pass, the catch, or the slam. There’s no wrong answer. Sensational alley. Spurs leading by five. Harper kicks to Johnson. Here’s Wimyama. Rebounded by the Lakers. And that one clearly a foul. Gets the whistle and two shots coming up. It’s going to go on Kell Johnson. 13 at the line for two. Hey, first one falls for Los Angeles making a switch here. Clea’s checked in. Let’s get it. And both free throws. Good for James. And it’s a luxury to have a great shooter like him at the line. Very rarely see him miss. Knocks it loose. And Whim Benyama too much inside and standing easily over 7 ft. when he gets that ball near the hoop. Literally nothing a defender can do. Reeves the pass to Donic. Reeves with the screen for Donic. Beyond the arc, hits it from three-point range. Donic has got 10 points in just the second half. And that’s right in his wheelhouse looking to make an impact when it counts. And his team needs every bit of his production if they want to pull this one out. It is neck and neck here in the final period. Oh, an aggressive move and fantastic finish. Trying to send a message with that slam, I think. And so Donic will bring it up for Los Angeles trailing by four. Tons very comfortable down low. Vital basket there. This is just the time and really just the situation when he looks to take over for San Antonio. They’ve gone five of seven from the field since the beginning of the fourth. Strong work at that end of the fourth. Here’s Castle. Buries it down low. And that’s what you like to see right there. A solid move to give himself some room and take it inside. LA’s gone two for two from three-point land to start the fourth quarter. Pass to James. Some nice passing here by Los Angeles. And here’s Kic from the ar and Maxi Cleba is going to pick up the foul. That’s his first foul. Barnes who’s checked in for San Antonio. Fox comes in for Harper. Substitution on the court. San Antonio leading by four. And here is Fox. A three ball. The rebound by the Lakers. Hon. Oh, Eightton in position and it’s out of bounds. The Lakers able to retain possession here. Great instincts from him to get a hand on that pass and tip it out. Yeah, I think he was hoping to maybe even get the steal, but I agree he’s still got a good outcome. And the Lakers making a change here. Hatchimz checked in. Spurs also with the sub. Vel, he’s checked in for Johnson. No one near Donic as he lets it fly. hands it from downtown. Donic has got 10 points now just in this quarter. Spurs have gone six of nine on their field goal attempt since the start of the fourth quarter. Up top Fox guarded by Donic and Fox gets it to go. That sweet lefty stroke from Fox. You don’t see that very often. And JJ Reick calls timeout here. He’s very aware of the timing here and the significance of getting things squared away with his team and with an update from the sidelines. Let’s check in with David Aldridge. Hey guys, JJ Reick’s message with his team was simple. Now, he had some pros and cons. He said, “I like our play inside, but what’s happening at the arc, fellas? We got to start making some shots. He needs more production from the outside, guys.” All right, David. Banks. Lakers trail by three. Reeves outside. James wide open and again Los Angeles with the triple. And right there you see the decision making ability of sets his man up perfectly. Back to Vel. Here’s the three. Good. And it’s Fox who picks up the assist. Fox has got five assists in the game. Los Angeles has gone to three-point range for 12 of their points in the final quarter on four of five shooting. James finds Hetime Mura. Up top Reeves. LeBron James on the wing and stolen by Barnes. Pass to Castle. Renyama with it. Barnes outside. Just five on the clock. Now Vel and again it’s the Spurs from deep. These coaches have to be telling their team to keep feeding Vel. Devin has been fantastic tonight. Reeves outside. Back to Donic. Pass to James. Eightton a screen on Barnes. LeBron passes to Aton. And that one is good. This is why they give Aiden the ball in these spots. They trust him and his ability to deliver. Here’s Fox Vel with it. Takes a three. And again, it’s the Spurs from def. And the lack of effort to fight over the screen there makes that an easy shot. Yeah, as soon as these guys feel contact, they are just disappearing like they’re not even there. You got to show some fire and keep defending. And it’s Donic missing. San Antonio leading by seven. Here’s Castle. That one is good. He’s only missed one shot of his six taken on the floor. It’s been like this all night for both teams. The offenses having their way. Yeah, but I think it’s going to come down to who can get the stops down the stretch because that’s who’s going to come away with this one. Here’s Donic. And that’ll be two free throws coming up. Officials on the call with the foul. It’s going to go on to Aaron Fox. Yeah, nice strong finish there. Nearly a three-point opportunity to Los Angeles taking two shots. That free throw good from Donic. free throws good from Donic. Here’s Fox. Floss it up for Winyama and stolen by Eaton. And now the fast break for Brun with the ball. Here’s Hatchima. Yes, it’s James picking up the assist. LeBron’s got three assists tonight. One thing you can say about Hachimura, he is not afraid of the challenge. San Antonio leading by five. And there’s a minute 45 left in the fourth quarter of this one. And when Benama throws it down, he is pouring it in this quarter. Maybe double team of shoot at this point in time. Triple team the Duke. Donic with it. Donic brushes off the contact and hits. How about the poise from Donic right there? He ups the Annie when it’s a critical possession here in the game. 131 left to play in the final quarter. Now here’s Fox Benyama now low. He’s covered by eight Barnes and the rejection by James and Brown with the block. Look, the shooters are working hard, but he is all over. Wow. Wow. He got whacked on that. Shouldn’t be much debate there. His third personal foul 15 at the line for Los Angeles. Good on the first and that shrinks the margin to just four. And when you think of LeBron, his competitive spirit is to me the first thing that comes to mind. All this guy wants to do is win all the time. Another miss and a tough break is his second attempt at the line. No good. That one miss was huge. He had a chance to turn this into a one-possession game. Shot from the wing again. The Spurs good for two. And this is the trust that Fox’s teammates have in him. What a shot right there. And JJ Reick calls timeout here. And he knows there’s no room for mistakes and wants everyone on the same page. There’s 53 seconds left to play here in the fourth. Here’s Donic. Remama with the rebound. And here’s Wanyama if he’ll bring it up for San Antonio. They’ve led by as many as 11 points. 44 seconds left here in the fourth quarter. Fox’s double. Here’s Castle. Exceptional defense from Aiden. I love seeing him challenge shots like this. No time to waste on this possession. Clock working against them right now. Reeves the pass to Hatchima. This one for three. Rebound San Antonio. And that’s an intentional foul. DeAndre his third personal foul. 13 foul. Shooting for San Antonio. Devin Bil. Two shots.
