[DoPES] Toronto’s Bobby McMann will have a hearing today for high-sticking Tampa Bay’s Oliver Bjorkstrand.

  1. He bonked the dude on the helmet which I get isn’t cool but he’ll probably end up with a 5 gamer or something rediculous…

  2. Who cares? Did you guys see the team stand up for each other, I didn’t know they had it in them, made me so proud

  3. It looked like Bobby was trying to swat down the other player’s stick, not realizing what hand he was – misses and clonks him on the dome. Either way, it was a dumb move. I don’t think it was intentional, just really careless.

  4. Get ready, boys and girls, I think the Leafs are about to be used to “set a precedent” again!

EDIT: TO BE CLEAR, McMann hit a guy in the head with his stick intentionally. Soft or not, you CAN’T do that. Being punished isn’t the issue. The fact that he’s the only one getting a hearing after a Leaf was kneed in the same game, and knowing that the league isn’t going to follow this standard with any other team, IS the issue.

  5. You just know the second Parros saw the replay of McMann he got all jacked up and started humping whatever was closest to him at that moment. Fucking guy cannot wait to suspend a Leafs player.

It’s been said to death but this league fucking sucks ass.

  6. Next headline: Bobby McMann suspended 16 years for high stick

And the next headline: Sam Reinhardt murders Hildeby, Toronto assesed minor penalty for interference.

  7. Gotta suspend him. Get this menace out of the league. He’s been endangering people for years.

    /s

  8. You won’t see me celebrating a leaf suspension, but it is our yearly suspension. It always seems to happen, last year it was Reaves, Reilly previously. The only thing I’m happy about, the NHL is not waiting THREE days to have the hearing like they did to Morgan.

  9. We should be more upset that our organization is too scared to call the league out on the decades long boas they have towards the leafs

  10. It is what it is. I don’t think he’ll get anything other than a fine, at least he *shouldn’t*. A match penalty was super harsh, honestly. I think McMann makes a good case based on the facts available: He received a crosscheck to the head/neck area immediately before that had him off balance, there was clearly no intent to injure(basis for assessing a match penalty), the Tampa player didn’t even flinch, let alone try to make it look good, and needless to say no injury occurred.

    $5000 and move on.

DPS once they see as leaf unifirm comes across their desk

  12. I’m 99% sure all match penalties have an automatic hearing, for what that’s worth.

  13. It seemed the refs missed McMann’s penalty on the play, and only noticed it while watching the review for the kneeing major on Goncalves. Yes, McMann totally deserved the penalty. However, I didn’t realize they could call the penalty in retrospect on review. High sticking gets missed on the regular, and refs don’t review the footage to catch it later.

  14. Me, to my brother last night at 947 pm:

“It annoys me when Jon Cooper looks incredulous about a clear penalty. Also, out of all of that, McMann is going to be the one to get suspended.”

  15. There isn’t enough outrage about Mermis getting kneed and refs erasing a 5 minute major. McNann gets cross checked in the face and retaliates back with a two handed slash (which you cannot do).

Refs just said a retaliation is the same as a dangerous non-hockey play

  16. Bjorkstrand didn’t even flinch. I wonder what the total number of games Leafs players have suspended for where the victim never even missed a shift afterward.
