Minnesota Twins now want to KEEP the roster together with minority investors?
[Music] It’s the Score North Twin Show. Baseball. [Music] All right, Score North Twin Show. A little warmer, I think, down in Orlando than what the weather is like here in the Twin Cities. I’m not sure, though. I It might Maybe it’s a balmy like 45. I have family in Orlando and West Palm and they start the car if it’s under 50°. I’ I’ve seen it happen. 3 63 right now in in Orlando. Yeah, sunny and 63. Sunny and 63. Not too bad. Uh hey, we’re a full Scorn Twin Show here. Uh no Jud, but we do got our guy Doogie in uh with us here. Hit the like button and subscribe button here on the Scorn Twin Show. We’re almost to 7,000 subscribers. We launched this like a year and a half ago. So, thank you to everyone who has done that already and we’re inching closer to more subs. So, thank you. Uh Dukes, winter meetings going on and a couple things here. There’s there’s a couple juicy things that we haven’t talked about since the last full uh twin show we did last Thursday. I guess let’s let’s start here. So now all of a sudden the rhetoric and the word out of the Miles are we’re going to add to this thing. Actually, we’re keeping everyone. We’re keeping Pablo. We’re going to keep Joe Ryan. All these reckless speculation and this idea that hey, Buxin’s going to wave his no trade clause and where’s Joe Ryan gonna fall? Are they going to shave the Pablo Lopez salary? And now it’s, hey, na, we’re going to keep these guys around and we’re going to add to this. Number one, I guess my first question is, are you buying that? And two, who are we going to add? Who’s going to join this party here? All right. Well, on the first one, Declan, yeah, I’m buying it enough. Although, if the Cubs tomorrow, like the Cubs, I know like Joe Ryan, the San Francisco Giants like Joe Ryan. If one of those organizations, if a different organization makes the twins an offer that is too good to be true, how would you not like saying, “Yeah, like you do it, right?” Like, so in the moment, yes, if I were to bet right now here on December 9th, it’s what I would have told you immediately after the Derek Shelton introductory news conference. had a lengthy conversation oneonone with Derek Faly on camera then a bit off. I got the vibe including on camera that he was all about adding to this roster that the American League Central is relatively wide open that there’s a thought whether you agree or not. I’m just saying there’s a thought at Target Field in the executive offices that the Detroit Tigers are not going to repeat in 26 what they did in 25 specifically. So many guys having really, really good offensive years. Plus, do they trade school? Do they not trade school? Even if school is a Tiger, there’s a thought over at Target Field, hey, we can make a run. Yes, the Guardians always find a way. Yes, maybe the Royals are more like the 24 version, not the 25 version, but this is not the American League East or even the American League West. like of the three American League divisions, this is the Twins thinking, hey, we have a shot here in 2026. So, I would have told you immediately after the Shelton presser that, hey, yes, Pablo here in 26, Joe Ryan here in 26, Byron Buckston here in 26. I still think there’s a chance they move Trevor Lick. And so, I’m looking at a payroll of roughly 112 to 115, 116. So to me it’s what about 15 to20 million now if you move Lick closer to 20 if you don’t 15 million. So you’ll sign some free agent relievers. I mean I was just looking at the list the other day Declan you may know the exact number but to me it looks like roughly 100 capable guys that have at least shown a pulse in the big leagues. 100 agent relievers. There are so many. I can’t remember another offseason where there were this many free agent relievers. So, they will stumble into a few one-year deals, right? Or at least a couple, right? I mean, they’re going to get some relievers. Then the question is, is it Reese Hoskins? Is it Josh Bell? Who is the power bat that they look to bring in? Presumably, it’s at first base. I don’t think it’ll be anywhere else. So, those would be two names probably among a few. I mean, I don’t think Paul Goldmid is very realistic, but somebody like Hoskins, that makes some sense. And so, that would be a name of all of them I would keep an eye on. Certainly, the twins have a good relationship with Scotty B, Reese’s representation. They will absolutely have conversations with Scott down in Orlando if they haven’t already taken place about any number of things, right? Not just Reese Hoskins, but presumably the name Reese Hoskins is going to come up at some point. So, they have some flexibility, but not a ton. But yeah, they are going to sign relievers, and I wouldn’t be shocked if they also find a way to sign, not trade for, but maybe a trade is on the table, but sign a free agent bat. So, I I my my radar remains on high alert. I I remain skeptical here and I think okay if let’s say they’ve decided we’re not trading Pablo Lopez or Byron Buckton who are the two big salary guys on your team and Joe Ryan who’s maybe the most valuable asset we’re not going to trade those guys so hopefully everyone’s happy. I would say that’s only the correct path if they add significantly and have a real a real like appetite to compete in the American League. Because if you just keep those guys and add like three kind of mid-tier league average relievers to this, are you really I mean you’d need major jumps from about five position players and cross your fingers on injury and pitching luck to flirt with the playoffs in my opinion. So either Okay, awesome. You’re keeping those guys throttle it and add some significant pieces or I’d go the other way, Doogie, because you could argue from an asset management perspective with Buckton for sure and Pablo Lopez. Pablo Lopez has had some injury stuff. There’s only two years left on his contract. He’s going to be 30 years old. Uh $21.5 million a year the next two years. this a great time to get some value for him if you feel like you’re not going to compete at the World Series level in 2026, which right now it’s laughable to say that they would. And Buckston, he’s clearly offered up like I’ll I’ll wave my no trade clause uh if if you send me somewhere to compete for a championship and are you guaranteed that he’s going to give you another season like that? So you could sell kind of high on both Pablo Lopez and Byron Buckton and just accumulate young talented assets for a push in like 2027. I kind of worry that all right well hey you know you guys want us to keep these pieces that they’re they’re going to actually wind up doing the wrong thing from a baseball perspective to try and like appease some fans that are mostly going to be out on this team anyways. So I’m just kind of skeptical of this to be honest with you, which is plenty fair. You talk about 2027, let’s hope there is a 2027 season. I mean, to me, it’s inevitable that this time next year, December of 2026, the sport is going to shut down. So, the question is, how long does it shut down? So, let’s play this out. Let’s say they sign Paul Seawald, who’s another one-yearish type reliever, Declan, Tommy Canley, somebody like that, right? Okay. Yeah, they add a couple relievers like that. Let’s say they add Reese Hoskins. What’s the ceiling for that roster? So, I hear you, Phil. I’m not sure if you add all three of those that you’re that much better. To me, you’re better. You’re betting on some guys having some bounce back. But yeah, Byron Buckton, can he repeat in 26 what he did here in 25? That’s a big ask. And I’m with you, Phil. Byron Buckston’s value in a trade will never be higher than right now, right? Moving forward. I mean, we could have debated years ago, but right now, right, like this would be the time to sell high on Buck. Now, my sense is Buck is not pushing for this. Buck would go to them if he sees Joe or Pablo go, but this isn’t Buck right now forcing any sort of issue, right? So, like other things would have to happen, but yeah, you absolutely could sell me, especially, hey, we’re what, a handful of hours away from the MLB draft lottery. Yeah, only the White Socks have a better chance. Do I have that right, Declan? The White Sox about 28%. Twinch 22% chance to land the number one pick. This short stop from UCLA, Rocco C. I’ll botch his last name if I try to pronounce it, but Roco considered perhaps the White Socks the best draft prospect in what many years. Years. I think I think I saw the best college shorts stop prospect since Tulo is a is a big comp I saw. All right. So since Tulowitzky. Okay. Well, I don’t know about that, but okay. Like, if that’s, you know, Jonathan Mayo or somebody of that ilk suggesting that, I’ll defer to them. They do this on an everyday basis. I just I’ve heard a lot of good things. I’ve read a lot of good things about this UCLA shortstop. So, if the Twins with the second best odds to win the number one pick in today’s draft lottery, if they end up with the number one pick, okay, Phil, I think I’m in then on trading these guys. thinking about 27 and beyond with Jenkins, with Cole Pepper, with all these young guys. You can get me there because I’m not convinced. I’m really not. So, you can sell me or pick pick two other relievers. There are a million relievers. Like, I don’t know if Trevor McIll is realistic, but maybe go to that next tier, right? And I don’t have the list in front of me, but I’m thinking somebody like a Seawald, right? Somebody like that. Add two of those guys plus choose Josh Bell, Reese Hoskins, whoever the power bat is. I just don’t think Gold Schmidt is very realistic. But one of those other guys, how good is that team? What’s What’s the ceiling for that team? It’s the variance is wide because it depends so much on Royce Lewis, Luke Keshaw, Brooks Lee, and and two or three other players that have yet to surface in the major leagues. Like if that’s the thing, if you get an early 2000s situation where you’ve got like five or six key young pieces all in their early to mid20s and they all click at the same time, 100% you can make noise and make a playoff run. I mean, the hell that team 2001 is when they popped. They barely missed the playoffs and then 02 they went to the ALCS. It’s like all those guys came together. But that’s a big ask. Royce Lewis would have to stay healthy and be productive all in one season for the first time ever in his career. And you probably would need one of your outfielders that are highly ranked in the minor leagues to come up pretty quickly like maybe around June or July and be contributors. Um and then like the bullpen stuff, they literally are rebuilding a bullpen from scratch via internal options and the free agent market. Are you going to bet whatever your eightman bullpen is to start the season? plucking pieces internally and from free agency, the Seawalds of the world, whoever. Are you going to bat a thousand on those acquisitions or are four of them going to have to be replaced? That’s the thing, like you’re going to be tinkering with your bullpen unless you really luckily nail it right out of the gate. So, it’s um it’s all dependent on those young position players. If they all click, boom. All right, cool. You got more time to figure out your bullpen around the trade deadline. I mean, you do feel good though about a rotation with Pablo into Joe. I mean, I just have a hard time believing that there’s not going to be some level of bounce back with Bailey Ober. Maybe I’m a Bailey Ober apologist, but I just think like some injuries, some other I would bet on Bailey Ober and then David Festa, Zebie Matthews, Simeon Woods Richardson. You have some guys. Plus, Declan, you were telling me the other day about a youngster that we saw in St. Paul, but yeah, a youngster that that many in the Twins organization feel like is ready to pop, maybe more so as a reliever compared to the starting rotation, but a former draft pick of a few years ago that is knocking on the door of helping them. Yeah, Marco Rya, who’s struggled mightily as a starter, but is still really young and was their top pitching prospect going into two seasons ago, um, organizationally likes him. The danger that you have here with building up a bullpen from scratch is I mean a a lot of the best free agent relievers are north of 35. You’re talking about Shawn Armstrong, Kenley Jensen, Tyler Rodgers, uh Kirby Yates, and they had good years last year and you can still get some good seasons out of them, but the volatility of even even if the core of offensive players step up, the Brooks Eliz, the Royce Lewis, maybe Matt Walner bounces back, you are you are rolling the dice on a on a bullpen that could be complete absolute you know what. So, and I I like the intriguing pieces that are internal. Like I do think Marco Rya could be a good bullpen. I think David Festa should go to the bullpen at this point. He’s got good swing and miss stuff. He can only go four innings at a time. Just make him a super reliever like you’ve done with Barl and Yand. So like I I think there’s intriguing pieces there. But even if you want to build up that bullpen again in free agency, you’re betting on guys north of 35 36 years old. You’re going to give them a lot of money and that and that’s where you’re going to allocate that extra 20 to $25 million. Yeah. you might win 75 80 games in a really weak AL Central, but uh it is an interesting proposition that they say, “Okay, now we’re going to add to this.” Okay, well, what’s the plan here to add to it and to be better than you were in 2024? I do find it fascinating though, this pivot, like I was texting a few weeks ago with a prominent agent, represents a big-time twin, works for a prominent agency. He’s a prominent agent himself and he’s like, “You know what? Let me just read it verbatim. Let me just find it here.” Love this. See if I can find it. Yeah. Because I’m always taking the temperature on the Twins because I love baseball. Plus, I have my Thursday scoop package on channel 5 here in the Twin Cities. So, I’m always looking for stuff, always digging. This is what he told me on November 19th. Okay. I said, “Hey, twins in on any of your agency’s free agents? I know it’s early, but fill me in.” Ha, they are cutting Darren. That was November 19th. Now it’s December 9th. Well, and the vibe from multiple agents down in Orlando is Yeah, there is some flexibility. We’re not talking about a lot, but enough flexibility to add to me trading Trevor Lick like you have to. I don’t know what the value is. Clearly before they made the decision to tender him, there was some back and forth. So I don’t know how easy it is to do, but like I don’t know why you’re paying Trevor Lick nearly $5 million to be on the 2026 roster. Yeah, I’d rather allocate that five million to sign one or perhaps even two relievers because I just think there are so many. You’re going to get some guys on some sweetheart deals. Heck, you could bring back Danny Koul right for one and a half to$2 million. Then you have three-ish million for another reliever. I’d rather do that than think about Trevor Lick just because you have so much outfield depth. I’m not anti-arnick, but I just don’t get paying him within the confines of what they’re dealing with payroll-wise. I don’t understand allocating nearly $5 million to Trevor next year. Uh, so the well, the the financial potential winds have changed since that text message a month ago may have something to do with uh news that came out this week, which I want to throw at you in a second here. But, uh, a shout out to some of the best frozen pizza you’re going to find in the Twin Cities and beyond, and that would be the iconic Green Mill brand pizza. That tavern style pizza now available in the freezer section of your local grocery store. Again, that’s scorn.com keyword auction. So, Dukes, uh, it’s kind of leaked out here from the Twins that a Minneapolisbased investment firm, I believe it’s pronounced Vard Partners, VA Partners is one of the minority groups that’s jumping in here. We’ve been waiting for 4 months to to find out who the minority owners are going to be. And what’s interesting is when you when you dive into the background of VAR partners. So it was founded over 30 years ago by three former Cargill financial executives. And they originally started very fittingly as a hedge fun. So it’s a hedge fund that that manages like $15 billion in assets. But they started off as a hedge fund that focused on distressed securities which are companies or entities that are experiencing financial or operational distress, default or are under bankruptcy. Uh so the the twins very fittingly might fall into that category. Distressed as a baseball organization, a half billion dollars in reported debt. So that’s that’s this is the first that we’ve that we’ve seen this name surface. We’re trying to figure out, I guess, are they eating part or all of that debt? And then beyond that, are they helping provide resources to add to your payroll to improve your product? But this is the first time a few days ago that uh an actual name of an entity has surfaced. Yes. And hey, I texted you guys late last week said the buzz was Friday. this Friday the 12th that that was the expectation of the announcement of who these limited partners are. Then Charlie Walters in Sunday’s Pioneer Press was able to advance that note. Had a note on Channel 5 on Thursday as well about the expectation of this week being the week we finally find out who these limited partners are. Credit to Charlie Walters of the Pioneer Press for advancing it. Yeah, I don’t know, Phil, if it’s Vard or Vard E V A R D E, but yes, as an investment firm, everything you just laid out, I don’t know. Can you sell me on how this is positive at all? Uh, like I don’t get it. I can’t I can’t. Now, the Twins aren’t going bankrupt. So, to me, if you’re an investment firm, this is a sane investment, right? Like, I get why they are doing it. If you’re the twins, why did you just not have any alternative, any other choice? Now, it’s not just this investment firm. I think the other limited partner partners are going to be from outside the Twin Cities. So, yeah, this investment firm, at least their corporate headquarters based here in the Twin Cities. I know they have an office in New York, probably elsewhere, but yeah, I just I don’t know. What am I missing on this investment firm now being part of the ownership group? What am I missing on this being positive? Yeah, I think I mean this is there’s a lot to untangle and there’s a lot of variables we don’t know about necessarily, but okay. So, you’re going to come in here and presumably you are they are coming on to help relieve a half billion dollars in debt and the the on on an asset that is reportedly worth let’s say a billion half dollars but they’d love to sell it for closer to 2 billion at some point, right? Like that’s the whole thing. The twins didn’t the Polad family did not feel like they were getting enough bang for their buck in the sales process. So, as part of this now, they’re framing it as we’re going to keep the team and we’re bringing on this group and and some other group to help provide resources for the future. But if you’re this group, you’re not like there’s you’re not this is a business transaction, baby. This isn’t like correct a rich a rich Twins fan coming in and saying, “I want a piece of this. I want the Twins to win a World Series.” To me, this transaction for VAR partners, we’ll uh we’ll go with that pronunciation is coming in and saying, “All right, so we can we can help you with your financial problems. What’s in it for us?” And the what’s in it for us, in my opinion, I’m not reporting this, is a a higher sale price once baseball works its way through. I mean, that’s my opinion, the 2027. Uh yeah. Uh season, why else would this investment firm come aboard? There’s an end goal here. because you know this company isn’t going bankrupt and so there is going to be an inevitable sale price where in the end you are going to prosper financially. Yeah. And so in the short term yeah you’re not like hey yeah here’s the green light go give you name the free agent go give Kyle Tucker a $350 million deal. No, that’s not that’s not happening. You’re just doing that as an investment firm. You’re not giving a thumbs up on something like that. Shortterm, you’re correct. I think the long-term positive here is their presence would seem to signify the facilitation of a sale at some point. All right, they’re going to they’re going to come in and they’re going to relieve some of the debt and they’re going to they’re going to help push this franchise at least through uh baseball’s collective bargaining mess in a year and a half from now or a year from now. And then at the end of all of that in like three or maybe four years, let’s say, then uh maybe the Twins are worth two$ two.5 billion dollars because baseball’s financial structure is different. I think that I think the goal is okay if we can’t sell the team now before all this happens, how can we keep the team in a better financial situation, but none of this none of this is great in the short term if you as a Twins fan want your team to spend a bunch on resources to win a World Series. Sorry, it’s just not happening, right? Yeah. Like I’m estimating, but I can’t like fathom a scenario where the payroll is much beyond $115 million. Yeah, correct. And so you’re looking at the commitments they currently have. There’s only so much wiggle room. Do you have specific numbers in front of you, Declan? Because I’m estimating about 15 to$20 million to spend. Yeah. This winter. The the the feel is it’ll be likely between 110 and 115, which is down from, I believe, 135, which was the opening day payroll last year. So So don’t let that fool you. is a drastic reduction from where it was a year ago, which was a drastic reduction from where it was two years ago. The payroll is plummeting from where it was a couple years ago. That that is a headline that we can’t. So, what was the number? Remind me in 23 closer to 150 15 155. Mhm. So, a big big drop off. By the way, so Fal in Orlando yesterday did give a little bit of quotes on these minority investors. So, this is from uh Bobby Nightingale, the Star Tribune. He said, quote, “I anticipate some news on that here in the near term where things are shaking out around ownership, but I’m not currently at liberty to speak to any specifics, but uh Bobby went on to report he has done a vision of that every off season. Uh Fal sitting down with ownership in the payroll, but this was the first time with a new ownership structure because of the minority investors. And Fal said, “Now it involves a few more people that we get to talk about it.” Uh, I think that it’s helpful to share some broader perspective around where we think our team is. I was hopeful, as I said in November, that we get to this place, but I always knew there could be different paths that we could choose. I think at this stage, figuring a way to add to this group was clearly the best fit for all where uh for all what we uh aligned around. Uh, so Valve said at the end of the Roco presser, that god, I know word salad is word salad, dude. It’s insane. Um he said at the end of the rock when Roco got fired that hey they’re going to be involved in a bunch of different things. The minority investors are they’re going to have a say in payroll. They might have a say in the direction of the team clearly and also like to go back to your guys’ point is the extra and it’s still a reduction but the this this now magical 15 to20 million in free agency or via trade that they now have. Is that coming because from the minority investors or is that coming from the poll ads because they have someone else paying down the debt? Paying down the debt to make that I think it’s the pole ads. I mean I don’t know but I think it’s the pole ads. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, I do. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean it’s but that’s the thing. It’s like this is going to be framed as just by the by the order of events here with players that were coming off the roster and payroll. It’s like oh well we’re going to be we’re adding at No, you’re not. You’re not adding. You’re not adding from year-over-year. You’re you’re subtracting resources from the team for the second consecutive off season uh after spending $153 million on the 2023. So, they lit they literally, just to put this all into context, do not be fooled by some of the way that Falv is spending this. They won their first playoff series in two decades with a payroll of around $155 million. And right now that payroll is around a hundred million and maybe they add 10 or 12 million. So it’s been a two-year toppling of resources and payroll and talent on the field. And I get that they are facing just like other teams in baseball financial headwinds as they would call it. Local TV models have been blown skyhigh. Uh, but a lot of this is on both Major League Baseball and more specifically the poll ads as business owners here not being able to see around corners 3, five, 10 years down the road and sort of measure up your response to those things. The baseball and the pole ads are so reactive compared to some of the other leagues and hopefully the league gets it figured out the next couple years. But when you combine baseball not seeing around the corner with their media structure and the pole ads just generally not being good owners at all or any or in any type of business uh you know lately it’s uh it’s a stew for what’s happening with the Twins right now. And the only thing that can save it, boys and dudes, is if five or six young players buck up together and decide to have breakout seasons in 2026 despite all of these mitigating factors. And bottom line, how exactly are you competing against the Dodgers of the world anyway? Edwin Diaz, I just saw to the LA Dodgers. I can tell you the Twins were not in on Edwin Diaz. Of course, they at least agreed to contract. Yeah. I mean, just the rich get richer. I don’t know what the money is. 3 years, $70 million. Three years in. Okay. So, by the way, and again, this goes back. The closer market is insane like the the the the closer for the Twins in 2026, unless like Jensen’s price just comes down because he’s out. He’s just, you know, still out there. It’s probably going to be somewhat internal because a Glacius went for 15. Diaz, who’s one of the best, one of the better closers in baseball. Like, I’m guess I’m not too surprised that he got this contract. He just got 69 million. Helley just got what 145 15 Aav there. There’s no shot even with uh again the additions to the to the additions to the roster here that they’re going to pay closer money. They won’t pay closer money. I would be very shocked at this point if they do that. Well, I’m not even quite sure they give out a multi-year deal. I mean, was Addison Reed the last reliever they handed a multi-year deal to? God. So, I mean, we’re looking at guys on one-year deals. If you know the season goes sideways by late July, you can trade those guys. Yeah. But, yeah, I mean, look at that next year. I’m just saying there are so many free agent relievers, they can sign a couple of these guys. The more I think about it though, Declan, for the power bat, is that more a trade not signing Reese Hoskins? Um, I’m just looking at MLB trade rumors, looking at some potential names. names like Alec Berles, Ryan Mount Castle, that’s a good one. Yeah. Tristan Cassus, that the Twins have so many prospects. Is that the pathway to getting a bat? It’s not investing 13 to$15 million into a Reese Hoskins. And it won’t be Kyle Schwarber because he’s getting a 5year $150 million contract from the Phillies. So that also So winter meetings domino dominoes are falling here, baby. Dominoes are falling a choice there. So, they had to give him that fifth year. I saw the Pirates made a four-year offer, but yeah, I think the Phillies knew to get Schwarber back, how could you lose him? Schwarber with the Pirates would just be hilarious, man. Just just hitting 50 tanks while the Pirates, him and Paul. Well, that does have to be depressing though for Twins fans when you see the Pirates, the Marlins allegedly. I guess I need to truly see it to believe it. I guess I need to see it to believe it too on the pirates. But that you see the Marlins and Pirates showing a willingness to spend money like a lot of money. Yeah. But Derek Shelton gets the Twins. Derek Shelton gets the twins. So Shelty, welcome back here, buddy. Let’s see how Oh man, the Twinsfest announcement on Twitter was nobody plows obliviously through negative PR like the twins on social media. Hey everybody, Twinsfest is back. And that the comments are just go to hell. No. Oh man, TVC. Oh man. Presented by I’m not going to throw the sponsor under the bus, but man, there’s a sponsor on these social media posts that’s probably like ah the comments. Oh no. All right, Dukes. Appreciate you, man. Thanks for joining us on our Twin. Yeah, Royce Lewis, Luke Kean Town. It’s twins give back week. So, I know Cody Thunderberg is in town doing some charitable stuff, but certainly Luke and Royce will be at Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul on Thursday. Very nice. Bringing some cheer to to some kids. So, kudos to those guys for willing to come into town in December and to give back. No kidding. Love it, man. Hit the like button, subscribe, keep on a good spot, too, by the way, healthwise. Very good. on the Scorn Twin Show. Uh for any updates to if they win the lottery, uh we’ll be I’ll I’ll jump on for a little recap of that, too. Got things to talk about here. Would the poll ads rather win the the draft lottery or the actual lottery to wipe out their debt? Got to pay taxes on the lottery. So, probably probably just the draft one. Probably just the draft. What time is the draft lottery? Is it like late afternoon or is it tonight? I think it’s 4:30 Central. 5:30. 4:30 Central. Okay. Yep. Duly noted. So, I’ll be good. I’m just saying you can sell me, Phil. that 22% comes to fruition. Twins get the number one pick. Obvious with the UCLA shortstop. Okay, let’s think about 27 and beyond again if there is a 27 season. If someone offers a moldy bag of cheese for Buxton sell, and through in Lewis.
Royce will miss time, Buck will miss time, Pablo will miss time.
Trading Pablo right now would not be selling high
I got an idea. Add Varland to the bullpen.
Yeah, the kids from the show Succession and the egomaniacal COO would never lie to us…..
So,Doogie. Is that McDonald's or Starbucks?
Twins can compete in the Central, assuming they can get some MLB caliber bullpen arms and a legit 1B bat (not Kody). Also agree with Doogs that Larnach is probably gone.
Lets wait till trade deadline on what happens. I believe more trades will happen then.
Who believes anything Falvey preaches about the Twins and their direction? Falvey and the whole Twins organization is a joke.
They will bargain basement shop as always then tell us how great the prospects are. I have 0 confidence in Falvey. I would actually suggest that this off season is the best time to trade Buxton, Ryan, Lopez. Trying to pawn this team off as Major League is criminal.
Who cares if they get the number one draft pick. They would mess that up too just like with many of our current can't miss prospects
How does a local TV sports news guy not know local sports news?? I can't say I've ever seen a local sportscaster lean on the podcaster for details they're supposed to know.
Don't forget that about 11 million dollars of 2026 payroll goes to Houston for the Correa trade. That makes his contract still one of the more expensive on the total payroll
How stupid was it to trade 3 team controlled pretty good relievers? I question the quality we got back.
I think larnach would be better than some of the stiffs they played in the outfield especially after the trades. I think Larkin led the team in hits last year. So hes not totally worthless
Luis Arraez at 1b and bullpen help gets this team to playoffs.
No sane free agent is going to sign here. The front office and ownership have proven to be unreliable, and don't care about winning championships
The thing is the spending they do wont be enough to fill the holes on the roster to allow them to compete gonna need multiple prospects to help them this year and actually be good on top of having guys like royce, lee, julien to step up and become good hitters i just dont think they will score enough to make up for a bad bullpen and terrible infield defense . Sorry but a infield of clemens, keashall, lee, royce isnt gonna help the pitching staff not to mention 2 of the 3 outfielders are also negative in the field and none of the backups can hit its laughable people think they can compete they will be bad and trade the stars at the deadline for less then they could of got now even if i think falvey with get a meh return for them just like he got for everyone they traded at the deadline
No Judd?
Yes flexible …Big news the Twins owners spent big today .. they signed the bat boy from the Natural.
Rhys Hoskins should’ve retired two yrs. Ago, Larkin is better than he is even for first base! Can hit as good and half the price easy.
My prediction, Twins talk to Anthony Rendon. They love oft injured former stars. Only team that would consider singing him.
it's humorous this local minority investment firm has a history of investing in lost causes. they're hoping for a pay off in a couple yrs. we'll see. why is derek falvey in charge of both the baseball and business sides? he's sucked at the baseball side and the pohlads loved that so much they gave him another job title. clueless organization and falvey is laughing all the way to the bank.
