If true this should take some of the heat off of Stearns

  1. Opts out of the two remaining years of his contract at $20 million a year to get 3 years at $20 million or just one additional year at $20 million. He must really not have wanted to come back to the Mets.

  2. So, he was dead set on being a Dodger. I assumed he’d go to the Dodgers when he opted out. This is a gut punch. I hate the Dodgers more than the Phillies

  3. I mean at the rate we are going with how Sterns is signing players I doubt we will have a competitive team for 26′ Season. He probably wants the best chance to get a ring before age eventually taking it’s course.

  4. WTF, He signed for 3 years and like $69 million. First, he must not trust the Mets to ever get to a spot to win a World Series. Secondly, how the f*ck is the league letting the Dodgers just spend this kinda money year after year.

  5. Here’s what I think: As soon and Edwin got an offer, he was adios. The same thing will happen to Pete, too.

I don’t think both were happy that Stearns did not show much love for both of them all offseason, so this was their chance to send a message.

  6. I’ve always wondered why guys sign the bigger contract with the crappier team. If I was a pro athlete it would be my dream to win the championship. It seems that is what Edwin wants. It’s not like he’s not set for life already with money. $69 million is plenty. I’d rather take that and have a World Series ring than $100 million and lose a bunch of games.

  7. 22 mil offer for a closer wasn’t enough, I am sleeping like a BABY tonight the same way I did for DeGrom

  8. Diaz velo on a big decline, this could be a blessing in disguise. 23 mil a year for a reliever means Diaz is the highest paid AAV per inning in mlb history. Diaz hasn’t been the same since that WBC injury and while his numbers were still great, there is no guarantee they won’t decline as he gets older.

  9. I thought Cohens money would turn the Mets into a powerhouse, all it’s doing is giving players leverage for a better Dodger contract

  10. Mike Puma tweeted that Diaz’s brother was with the Dodgers and liked the vibes, and he wasn’t happy that Hefner got fired.

  11. Anyone that’s mad at Edwin Diaz for taking more money, picking a team in sunny Los Angeles, and contending for a championship. Is a fucking idiot.

  12. Diaz wanted a ring. Can’t blame the guy after the way the year ended. No fight in the team in September. Had to be tough when he was excelling and the rest of the team, including the relievers they brought in, choked. He opted out right away. And he did not give the Mets a chance to match or top it. I do blame Stearns for his negotiating stance with a proven player. But in the end Diaz wanted to go with a winner.

  13. Ok time to move Holmes back to the bullpen. And since Christian Scott will be on innings limit let’s put him in bullpen, I think he’ll be good there.
