Lauren Kyle McDavid talks how she met Connor with Julie & Cat | S2, Ep11
Speaking of the Connor ketchup thing, did
you see those fans dressing up as ketchup? I I did and I’ve heard about it. He’s He’s seen
them, too. He’s like, people come and dress up as ketchup now. I’m like, I’m so sorry I exposed
you on that show. Yeah. Stack. It was so subtle, but of course, like the internet takes it and
they’re like, “Here we are in a ketchup bottle. Welcome to Never Offside. Uh we’re going to
do something a little different this time around. We are going to just start off with
our guest and she’s a very special one. So, here we go. Yeah. We’re joined by Lauren Kyle
McDavid, now a brunette. We just got on with her and we were shocked, surprised. I mean, you look
beautiful however you What color? You could have, you know, purple hair. I think you would. A
Thank you. I don’t think Connor would think otherwise. I don’t think I should go purple. So,
I’ll stick with So, that’s a great Let’s start there. What does Connor prefer you brunette or
blonde? Oh my gosh, that’s such a good question. I feel like he has a hard time adjusting to
change. So, right now, I think he’d say blonde, but then I think in a few months he’ll be like,
“Oh, I love your brunette hair.” It just takes him a while to get used to things. But, it was a
shock to us just now. We literally she just came on and we were like, “Whoa, this I haven’t really
like put it out there yet, but first time.” Some people might know you as you know the talented
Connor McDavid’s wife, but you have made a name for yourself. You’ve branded yourself in one of
the most acknowledged ways. You, you know, you you have you’re a multi-brand CEO, all the things. We
have we have so much to cover here, I think. Yeah, we we were laughing because pressure is on. Well,
we we always um question box poll our Instagram listeners. Um so we got hundreds of questions for
you, but Julie and I were laughing because uh not many were about Connor. Oh, really? Yeah. So, lots
and lots. That’s always a good thing. But we do have questions. You know, the goal here is I think
as you as you know, this brand of yourself and all the all of the businesses that you own, like
everything and I was talking to Cat getting ready of like I feel like we know each other because of
Instagram. We chat on Instagram. We you know we it’s just like that’s like this world now and then
when it comes to it we’re like no no no we got to like peel back the layers of like this is if we’re
having coffee like who is Lauren McDavid? So, we’re so happy to have you here. That was our long
Oh, thanks for having me. I’m excited. I’m looking forward to it. Um, yeah. So, we’ll get to all
your businesses and everything. Um, but first, we were trying to put a timeline together. You two
like just missed each other in Edmonton? Yeah, we Yeah, I was wondering that when when when did you
leave Edmonton? So, we got traded in March 2015 and then Connor would have come in fall of 2015.
Oh, okay. Yeah. When did you get to Edmonton? Because Connor and I met like December of 2015. So
we would have just met I think that was December of 2015 and then I didn’t like I didn’t really
come here until 2016 and visit him. So yeah. Yeah, I was I was but we have lots of mutual so lots
of mutual friends and just the commonality of you know being an Edmonton Oiler and it is such
a unique special place to play. it is um and you know it has its and that’s what we’ll get into
like you know your ins and outs of Edmonton and you guys have on it like obviously given
everything to that city um so we want to dive more into that and um I guess my first question is like
when you did move to Edmonton what was something that shocked you like had you gone to Edmonton
before being a Canadian girl um yeah I mean I only previous to when I met Connor I’ve only been
here one time for like a volleyball tournament a long long time ago when I was I think I was maybe
17 or 17 probably. I think it was the first time I used it. My fake ID was here. Like actually down
the street at this Irish pub um in Edmonton. So that’s the only memory I had of it. And now I
have a bit like a my office is literally like across the street from it. So it’s kind of funny.
Full circle. Yeah. Do you ever dip in just for old times sake? I haven’t. I need I should a little
nostalgia. The thing that probably surprised me the most I don’t I think the community is great
and then like surprised by the restaurant scene here. I feel like we do have a lot not a lot of
spots but really good spots. Um and it’s just it there was just so much opportunity. It’s like
rapidly growing and yeah that’s probably what I was most surprised about. Well that’s kind
of you you inserted yourself there with your bar and everything like that. Can you kind of
explain um just to a lot of our listeners who might not know much about Edmonton like how that
started and everything like that? Yeah. Well, it really started I mean I don’t think I knew I
wanted to open a bar necessarily, but um primarily like the plan was to open a furniture store. So,
I had a business partner. She approached me and she was in the furniture industry. Um her name’s
Britney and basically we just decided like, oh, this would be a great extension of my business to
open a furniture store because kind of fills a gap for us with our clients. Um and then we just found
this building downtown. It’s a historic building. Hadn’t been occupied for 10 years. is it’s from
1912. It was an old bank. It’s actually really quite a beautiful space. Um, and there was three
floors, 9,000 square ft. So, we were just like, “Okay, how do we fill this whole thing?” So, moved
my Yeah, it’s just a lot of space. So, we moved my design business to the top floor. And then the
furniture showroom is like half of the main floor, second floor. And we were just like it would be
fun to have somewhere people could go and like get a drink and go shopping with friends and just in
one place because we don’t have a lot of that. You know, it’s cold in the winter. There’s not really
like destinations where you can go and kind of like walk around and um you know, have like a fun
girls day. So that was what we were were thinking. And my background like I love cooking and
entertaining and and all of that. So just it is an extension of um some of my favorite things. So
yeah, just became into this one building with all I wish that was I wish that was there when I was
there because I’m like I used to just go walk the Westad mall. That’s what I So that’s that sounds
amazing. I want to know like Lauren as a child like you are the most ambitious like go-getter out
there. It seems like where did all this creativity everything come? I would say just like as a kid,
I grew up always like rearranging my room. Like I I changed my room like maybe 20 times when I
was a kid or I would be like painting underneath the stairwells or I I don’t even know. I just
automatically like had this creative side of me. And then I wouldn’t say my parents were like
necessarily the most like they didn’t pressure me to work or pressure me to do any of that. I
just naturally like wanted to start working at a young age. I think I started working at like
12 and yeah, I don’t know. It just came I think it just came from just naturally. I mean, my dad
has his own business, so I kind of saw that. Um, but yeah, it just kind of came from this natural
place growing up. All these things that you do, all these businesses, what right now do you
work the most on? I’ve actually been getting this question a lot lately and I don’t know how to
answer it because my days look so different every day. Honestly, I have an assistant, Stephanie. I’m
sure you’ve been chatting with her a little bit, but she has been like such a game changer for
me and essentially like everyone from every team just gives me tasks at the beginning of
the week and then my days are planned like by the hour and it looks different every day. And
some days it’s like focused on, you know, Trove of Living or some days it’s Kyle and Co. Like it
it kind of depends on what’s needed at the time. I feel like I heard it somewhere, but you and
Connor met on a blind date. Yeah, I would say like blindish. Um because we didn’t really know
anything about each other. Didn’t, you know, have any other personal connections other than my
cousin at the time was kind of like dating uh Lud Gastic and they Connor and him were roommates. So,
I think like one night they were on FaceTime with my cousin Zadeie and then Connor was like, “Oh, do
you have anyone you can set me up on a date with?” And she was like, “Oh, my cousin. I think you’d
like her.” So, we were set up, he was hurt and injured in Toronto and then we were set up on a on
a date and yeah, it was the rest was history. So, what was your very first impression of Connor?
Oh, that’s a good question. I don’t know. We just like immediately had so much to talk about.
felt like we had so many common interests in like family dynamics and just our overall like the way
we looked at life was very similar. So, probably just we just chatted like we could chat all night
and I think just the thing I was most surprised about it was just our like instant connection
and kind of felt like we had been dating for for years when we first started dating. So, yeah. Oh,
that’s a lovely answer. We were Yeah, that is so sweet. I was going to say our stories don’t sound
like that. I was like, Jeff was like, great, but instantly friend-zoned. But that’s Yeah. You know
what? You have to start out like that sometimes, too. You know, those are the best relationships
that grow from friendship. Um, so with with Connor in like all of your business ventures and things
like that, like is are you getting his opinion on things? Are you like asking him or are you just
kind of like in your own lane? Yeah. I mean, I would say like that’s something that I’ve had
to like learn like, okay, we need to talk about things and we need to both be on the same page
because it’s not just like my own lane, like we’re married to each other. So, obviously like it’s
important to run through ideas and like you know, plans together. So, I would say like in terms of
Yes. like before I’m setting up a new business, we sit down and talk about it and how that’s
going to affect is he like uh slow down. Yes, he is. He’s like, okay, that’s it. Yeah, we’re
done. No more. But no, he’s really supportive. But it’s it’s a bit of both. Like obviously I have
a lot of ideas and I think I come to him to like talk them through and you know figure out if it
makes sense. Um but daytoday stuff not really like I I not really. Yeah. Well, you guys are both
very like we know our husband’s hockey schedules like they are dialed and you know and I’m sure
Connor is scheduled even more to a tea because of other you know sponsorships and and activations
that he has to be part of. So it’s like you got to keep your own. Um Cat and I were laughing. We were
like we wanted to ask your sleep score. We’re like we know you have to have like something tracking
your sleep. Like do you sleep? Cuz that was like a major question. Yeah, I do sleep. Yeah, I do
sleep. I do think the sleep is very important. Um, and I have the eight sleep, so I I could see
my sleep score right now. I don’t look at it every day, though, because I think it would make
me a little crazy and like get a little bit too intense, but um Okay. Oh, I was a 91. Look at you.
Yeah, we were like anticipating you not sleeping or something. I don’t know what we thought,
but we didn’t think that you would. Are you and Connor together? Like are you guys like early
bed go to bed? Like Julie would be happy to be in bed at like 7:00 I feel like. Right. I wish I was
like that. No, we’re actually not. We try to get to bed at 11:00. Like that would be our latest
I would say like 10 to 11. We’re like in bed, but we’re we’re show watchers. Like we watch a
lot of television on the couch and then we’re like 10 to 11 in bed. So I I wish I was like that
because I would be less tired in the morning and I don’t like being tired in the morning, but I don’t
Sometimes I think the more you sleep the tire the more tired you are. Like I don’t know. I think
I’m on a on a dreamy day. Yes, I’m in bed early, but I’m an 11 o’clocker and then I’m paying for it
with my early mornings. But um a lot of people uh in our DMs and comments said that you guys are
big Survivor people. Huge Survivor fans. Yeah, love Survivor. I I honestly like I keep telling
Connor that one day I do want to go on the show. Like that’s a dream of mine. But I love that. He
doesn’t think that I could. He He’s, you know, a little bit apprehensive of that. But I said, you
know, just give me a couple years. I just want to try. I think I’d maybe be okay at it. I think
you should do it before if you’re planning on expanding a family because I always think like now
I want to go on the Amazing Race, but I’m like, how could I leave my kids for 3 months? Like I
couldn’t. Yeah, that’s true. I know. So, Survivor is only a month. So, I think, you know, maybe
you got this. Like, I would put money on Lauren McDavid. Are you kidding me? Wait, what about what
about Survivor like draws you both in so much? Well, I was a huge Survivor fan as a kid. Like,
I I grew up like wearing the headband or bandanas to school. Like, I had a collection of them.
Didn’t we all like I’m sorry if you didn’t have a Survivor bandana. I know some people think that
I’m like crazy for still being a Survivor fan, but I know that there’s a community of us out there.
Talk you like all different ways. No, I think it’s cool because it is like it it’s kind of like
Dancing with the Stars. Like it’s never going to die. It’s always going to be a good show, right?
So, we’re going on season 50. Like it’s it’s iconic. Um but that I was a huge fan growing up.
Connor never really watched it and then I don’t know. It was like two years ago we kind of got
into it and now we’re obsessed and we watch every season and I’m now in a Survivor poll or pool or
whatever like a fantasy team for Survivor. So, cool. Yeah. My guy’s winning right now. Well, he’s
doing good. He’s doing well. Have you ever been contacted by the network to like collab with them
or anything like that? Or Connor? No, but um there was a girl on last season um Eva and she reached
out or she actually made an ep like a a video on social media saying she was big fans of Connor and
then I reached out to her and I ended up meeting her. She came to one of the playoff games and
I met her there. It was I was like geeking out. But wow, that is so cute. I love that actually.
Yeah, big name in hockey. You think of like big names that you could meet or whatever and you’re
like Survivor. That’s my like Yeah, exactly. I don’t really have any like Star Struck moments,
but mine’s like Survivor like Jeff Probes. I’d be like, whoa. Couple other things that we were
we were talking about yesterday with just you and Connor and like uh we saw um the thousandth
point that you celebrated with uh your dog on the ice. Um I think that’s the first time we’ve
ever seen something like that happened. Um, can you tell us a little bit about that ceremony and
just about we we really want to know about Lenny to be honest. Yeah. Oh, he is the best. Definitely
the best. But no, it was really special. I mean, they since we don’t have kids, they were like, “Do
you want to bring your dog?” And absolutely. Um, so yeah, it was really um, not really. He was
pretty good. I wasn’t really stressed. He’s he’s not I never really have to worry about him.
He’s not like overly excited most times, so he was good. And then they let him stay in the suite
with us to watch the rest of the game. And it was so funny because he was no joke like watching the
game and like turning his head as the players were going down each end of the ice. Like he was fully
invested. It was adorable. What a good good dog. Um that was so cute. It was it was definitely the
first time I think anybody’s seen a dog go into like a ceremony and I was like Yeah. I was just
stressing out about getting my four kids on the ice and like I wonder if she was stressed out like
itty bit but sounds like the dog is well I mean that’s more of a handful than Len for sure. So
you never know. I feel like a dog could like see something and then just like go for it. But was it
a surprise for Connor? Did he know that Lenny was going to come out too? Um he knew. Yeah, we knew
that he was invited and he was going to come out, but he was surprised that he got his little golden
bone and he got he got a little gift, too. He was surprised about that. Um, who runs Lenny’s social?
Oh, um, actually my friend Liv, she runs it. She just she just kind of took it over. Well, we
noticed we noticed that he hasn’t posted in a while and we were wondering like maybe he’s moved
into like his teenage years. He doesn’t want to be photographed as much. Liv, you hear that? You
gotta keep keep it going. Yeah, Liv, give give the people what they want. Liv asking for more
of Lenny. So, Leonard’s gonna have a bunch of stories today just because Liv heard that. Oh,
I love that. Do you see Okay. Do you see Connor and Lenny like similar? Do are they doppelgangers
of each other? Like, is it owner owner and dog, same person or No, that’s a good question. Yeah, I
would say so. Yeah, because Leonard has like burst of energies when he’s outdoors and doing things,
but then he’s really calm at home. So, I would say that’s similar to Connor. You always say like guys
like my husband’s a golden retriever or whatever. You know what I mean? So, I don’t know. No, I
could see that for sure. Your wedding obviously we we talked about not knowing each other, only
knowing each other on social and Julie and I kind of feel like we were there a little bit just by
how uh who didn’t like Yeah, it was how beautiful it was. Actually, it’s kind of funny. Yesterday, I
went to lunch and I ran into uh Vinnie Des Charie, who was at your wedding. Yeah. Yeah. Because
he’s now on Tai’s team, so it was just a funny crossover. And he said to tell you that he felt
like he was in a James Bond movie at your wedding. So, Oh, we miss him. He was so great. Yeah,
he’s great. So, buddy, was there was it just as magical as you wanted? Was there anything that
went wrong behind the scenes? Any tea like that? No, honestly, not that I know of. I mean, if there
was, my wedding planner did a great job at hiding it from me, but nothing went wrong. We really
lucked out. And the summer was like notoriously for bad for having um like bad weather. It rained
every weekend other than our our wedding weekend. So, we got so lucky. Like, the weather was
perfect. It couldn’t have gone any better. I actually I did see a psychic who told me to get
married on like seven. So, I think that’s probably why. But anyways, I So, we got married on like
0727 and worked out good weather. This past summer was the dry side’s wedding and you guys are super
close with them. Um, we always talk about also like in this world you make such good friends,
but some are forever friends and you just know the difference and you know that kind of thing. What
makes them so such good close friends of yours? Well, Celeste and I actually were friends before
the guys. So, we both are from Sebree. We grew up in Sebree together. Um, and we became
close like last year of high school. So, we were actually living together. She was my
roommate in university when I met Connor. Um, and I guess two years after that, after Connor
and I started dating, we made the introduction to them and then they they started dating and
yeah, so she she was kind of my friend from from home first. So, we were already really close. And
then then you add, you know, Connor and Leon who have known each other for a while and were team
teammates for a while. And um it’s just yeah, it’s special to have that and we’ve been on the
same team for so long now and have so many shared experiences, similar experiences that it’s just
natural to get super close. Um so that’s that’s why we’re close to them for sure. Was that
a joint honeymoon or was that fake news? Um, I mean like technically I guess because we
made a joke about it like because we didn’t plan a honeymoon for after our wedding. There wasn’t
enough time and then they just didn’t really want to go on a honeymoon right after the wedding. So,
I think they’ll do a trip this summer and I don’t know, Connor and I will eventually do a trip,
but technically it was like a joint honeymoon, but it’s a joke. That was It was perfect whatever
it was. Yeah. So fun. It was fun. It was only a couple days, but nice to get away. Yeah, it was
great. Um, what are some of Leon and Connor’s like peeling back the curtain a little bit? Like what
is something about them that makes them just like, you know, just like the best of buds? Like Yeah.
What What is it? Um, I would say just when we all four of us get together, we’re like really silly
and I don’t know, we’re kind of like the funniest versions of oursel because we don’t take anything
seriously. So, we just have a lot of laughs together, I would say. And like I don’t know,
we we just don’t take anything seriously. And it’s just fun. It’s a fun time. We’re just silly
together, I would say. Like all of us. And the guys are just really comfortable together because
they’ve known each other for so long. But yeah, something I learned, uh, Ty played in Calgary
for like a season and a half, and I wouldn’t have known about the Battle of Alberta without
Yeah. That Oh, really? Yeah. I that was a crazy thing to be introduced to. What is that
like for you like as a fan, as Connor’s wife, as everything like what are you like temperament
in the in the stands? Yeah, I mean I actually went to the Calgary game when we played them in the
playoffs. Um and that was intense. They definitely the fans are intense and it is very like like this
in the stands. But um I’m I’m in general just like a nervous fan when it comes to hockey because I
feel like I’m on the ice. So um just cuz you know you’re you’re just wanting your partner to win
so bad and you know to be successful. So yeah, it’s definitely I think I’ve become too like okay
Battle of Alberta like you you want to kind of be involved. I mean, our um it’s funny. I actually
hired someone, everyone I’ve hired is basically from Calgary for some reason, but um David,
someone on my team was a Calgary fan, and he didn’t tell me for like a couple months and then
kind of came out. So, we had like a a funny little bet that he had to wear a jersey after we after
they got out in the playoffs and he had to wear a Oilers jersey for the rest of the week at the
office. So, definitely have played into it a bit. Oh, so that like battle of battle of Alberta
is like a thing in your in your orbit, I guess, every day. Apparently, so coming into like the
hockey world and then, you know, getting coined like the captain’s wife and things like that and
all of the, you know, duties that uh Yeah, I say that jokingly because it’s it’s different on every
team and kind of how it goes like how it how what does that look like um on Edmonton? you are such a
busy person that that whole side of your life too is all consuming as well. Like how do you manage
that? Um you know kind of leading the team and the girls in that sense. Yeah, I mean I feel like it
is kind of like another job too because there are things you need to like plan and be organized with
and um I do have great help with like Celeste and Michaela and Bri. Um so it’s great to have that
group of girls helping out. But I would say yeah, it’s something that goes into my calendar and
I plan it. But um I think I naturally too like I’m social and I naturally like planning things
with the girls and getting everyone together. So it does kind of come naturally to me. Um and I
try to manage I try to manage it and just try to um continue to do things with the girls because it
is really important. Um but yeah, it goes into my calendar. Speaking of going into your calendar,
Olympics like they were like is are the teams are they made yet? Like are they like do you guys
have a group chat going? Like what is team Hannah doing? No. Yeah. No. Like I don’t think I think
the the list comes out January 1st. Okay. So, we’re actually doing the jackets for a bunch of
teams and we’re going to have to like just guess for sizing and then add the names on once we get
the list because it’s going to be super quick of a turnaround. But, um, no, I think there’s
only maybe like six, if I have it right, maybe six players announced for each team. Other
than that, we won’t find out till January 1. So, we really don’t know. Event like as soon as we
do, we’ll put the group chat together and get things going, but Oh my god. For sizing purposes
alone. Yeah. That stresses that that gives me like heart palpitations for y’all. Yeah, we’re just
going to have to order extras and like, you know, hope we get it right. But yeah, you led into that
perfectly because we want to get back into your businesses and, you know, one of them being your
clothing business and that’s where we can speak to this in in such a different kind of back sort
of way. Um, that was the majority of questions by the way. All that to say is like you were and
are have been like the biggest supporter of Line Change when we came to Edmonton a few years
ago and then it’s it’s been so like obviously so wonderful and you girls have been amazing but then
when you started sport club and then can you help me say it sport club artillier I don’t artillier
artillier you got it when you started that like we’re watching this obviously from Ireland and
we’re just like you’re putting stuff out there that is so incredible and niche like it’s we’re
so impressed by it and well I feel the same about you girls. So thank you. I guess where I want to
go with this is like what are your what are your plans like you you are like I’m calling you like
the queen of outerwear and jackets because the the attention to detail that we’re seeing with Canada
jackets, team Sweden, you know, obviously all of the Edmonton stuff, it’s incredible. And where did
this come from? Where do you plan to go with this? Like all the things that you would love to share?
Yeah, I mean I definitely came from just naturally like doing the girls jackets every year for
playoffs and then I think like h creativity goes hand in hand. I’m always being inspired by like
fashion in my interiors and kind of vice versa. So, I it was just like a natural evolution and um
yeah, I’m I want it to grow bigger than it is now. I we’re planning on like, you know, going into
other leagues and figuring out how we can kind of expand there. Um but yeah, it’s just it’s so
fun and I think that like the world of fashion has so much potential um and potential for growth.
So, I’m really excited to see where it goes. I hope you expand into other teams because I I see
your stuff for Edmonton. I’m like, dang, would it be weird if like I like kept got a Edmonton jacket
for like old time sake? Yeah. You know, the team Canada Olympic team Canada stuff. Like I just
can’t wait to see it all. I feel like Yeah, I’m I’m excited. We’re doing some some cool stuff for
sure. I’m so impressed with how you’re managing it. like how you also have a cookbook coming out.
Yes, it is on its way. All the they just Well, I’ve been working on that for five years, over
five years. And it just I again like I love to cook. I grew up cooking, entertaining, like that
was just kind of me growing up. Um and I started this cookbook five years ago. Um it is a passion
project. Like it’s so hard to do cookbook and it takes so long. Um, so it’s definitely been a lot
of years and um time and effort, but yeah, it’s it’s done now. It’s being printed or it’s done
being printed, so it’s just being shipped now. So I’m probably might do like a pre-order before
Christmas potentially and then and then launch um after Christmas. But yeah, it’s Oh my gosh. So
it is it’s like being wrapped up right now. Yeah, it’s wild that it’s done now because it’s taken
so long, but definitely excited for it to be out there. How do you choose a cover for that? Like,
how do you just land on a cover? Yeah, actually, I knew that I didn’t want my cookbook to look
like other cookbooks just because I wanted it to be a coffee table book rather than be like in
your kitchen. Um, you know, I didn’t want to be on the front. I didn’t want it to be like about
the food. I kind of wanted it to like blend into interior. So, it’s really simple. It’s just
like a linen cover with um kind of debossed words and it’s super simple but somewhere you
could something you can put in your kitchen and look really pretty or or have in your your um
living room and kind of more of a art piece on your coffee table. So, okay. So, it’s not you you
with like a spatula. No, it’s not. How much Wait, how much did Connor like taste test out of like
recipes? Like were you always cooking at one point when you were really into this project? Yeah.
Um, I would say he’s tested like half of half of the cookbook to be honest because usually like
when I did the cookbook it would be every chapter is a different theme. So it would be like Mexican
night or like um brunch at the cottage like little things like that are more about the event itself.
So I would cook every single dish for that event and every drink and it would be done in like one
sitting. Um, and then there would be a overhead shot of the tablecape and I kind of give tips and
tricks on either how to host or just little tips for hosting or tips for setting your table or like
finding forging things that would look really nice on your table or just um little tips and tricks
and yeah, it would all be in like one photo shoot in one night. Um, so sometimes he wasn’t there, he
was on the road or um he was kind of not there at the time that I did it. Another thing Vinnie told
me, this was a very like informative lunch that I had impromptu yesterday. Yeah. Um, very funny.
Uh, another thing he told us or me was about just Connor and his superstitions, especially during
playoffs and everything. So, trickling down to like even you cooking. Is there anything like that
you personally have to do to like abide by these superstitions? like um he has that under control,
but um he usually he eats from the like he takes home food from the rink, but he does take home the
exact same meal from the rink. I um don’t do any of his pregame cooking thankfully because I don’t
think I would have the time to do it. Um and this year or two years ago now I think Shared has been
with us. We have a chef so he cooks for Connor um the day before a game. So that’s kind of
covered. Again, my schedule just got way too busy that I can’t fit in like cooking every night for
him. Yeah, for sure. So, um I do certain things that like kind of go after his routine that I
think is superstitious for me. Like he puts his plates to the right of the sink and I need to like
put them in the dishwasher. I don’t feel like it’s going to be a good game. Like I do weird things
like that for sure. Oh, funny. Yeah. Can we can we expand on some more because those are the
things we love. Yeah. Um well, okay. He like makes a pile of clothes in our closet and I need
to like move it to a different spot in the closet. So weird things like like that. I feel that I’m
like last night at the game I usually park in the same spot and I totally just I was like you
know what screw it and I like I don’t even know if somebody else like generally parks here. I parked
in a different spot. They had a great game. They won and I was like it’s because I parked in that
different spot. And now you have to park in that different spot. Yes. Now I have to really hope
that it’s open. And my boys were like, “Mom, you never park here.” I’m like, “Sh, the burden of
superstition is like such a like crazy thing.” And some people don’t have that burden. So I know.
I wish I didn’t have it, but you know, it just gets passed down. I feel um Okay, going back from
cookbook talk to now Barro Brove is that um are those your recipes in the restaurant? Is that your
cocktail making? like what or do you have someone there creating? Yeah. Um, we have an amazing chef.
His name is Eric Hansen and he is incredible. So, my business partner and I kind of created the idea
for the menu and different aspects of the menu, but then he executed it, changed things, added
things. Um, I mean, he really is the talent and creative behind it. So, we wanted to leave that
to him. But, he actually did sit down with me the other day. It was really cute. He was like, “I
want to for your cookbook launch, like I want to make um a special that’s like one of your recipes
every week and it will change every week.” So, we’re kind of doing that with Yeah. with the the
food and drink. So, I think that will incorporate that. But, that’s cute. Do you do a holiday party
with your staff there? The thing is I have a few teams now, so I have like multiple holiday
parties. You’re you’re booking Valentine’s parties at this point. It’s fun. Um, so we have
done like our design team’s Christmas party, but then Trove will probably go somewhere
else because I was thinking like, oh, well, who’s going to make the drinks and who’s going to
cook if if it’s their party, too? How often um, do the girls get together there? Um, on the table?
I would, yeah, I would say like a good one to two times a month, maybe. I would be like that would
be like my go-to. It would be like, okay, well, we’ll just go there. Like that could be the easy
solution every night, you know. For sure. Is it ever like a post game? Like do they stay open like
late for you guys if you ever want to go like post game? Yeah, if we wanted to, for sure they would.
Um, definitely. But it’s been nice. Yeah, because we’ve had this year we’ve had like three different
team events here. Um, so it’s nice and like we can kind of use the different floors depending on
the event. Um, so it doesn’t stay, you know, stale. So, um, and then, okay, with Kyle and Co.,
which is like kind of where all this started, your design firm, what are you doing? Are you doing
residential? Are you doing commercial any design projects? Like I feel like Yeah. What’s going on
there? Yeah, primarily residential new builds, but um, we do have a few commercial projects trying
to get more into that space now. Um, but yeah, primarily residential. It’s a weird question I
have for a designer and I’ve always wondered this especially because we we’ve all had a wedding and
we all look back at like the design of our wedding and we’re a little mortified. I am, you know, by
some things like the even the chair design. Uh like how do you kind of ride especially in your
own houses like Yeah. like with the different trends. Yeah. Um that’s a I feel like my my design
style is always constantly evolving and changing. Funny story about our wedding with chairs because
you brought that up. I actually bought all 200 chairs. They weren’t in the rental market. Oh my
god. Now I’ve bought them. Yeah. And now we’re just selling them at the store because I have
200 chairs. That’s a great idea. I have to see what design I have to look this up to see exactly
what you wanted there. They’re like replicas of a Pier genre like cane chair. Anyways, um there it’s
just like one of my favorite designers. Um and I just thought it would be me to have those chairs
at my wedding. So chairs is a thing. Did Conor love the chairs? Was he like He probably didn’t
notice them too much, but he he loved everything. I think it was one of those things where I would
say, you know, we do need this. We do need this. And he’s like, oh, we don’t need that. And then
everything came together and he was like, oh my god. Like he was blown away by it. And he was
like, I understand why we needed all these things now. And it makes sense. But yeah, that’s a that’s
a good man. He he just put his trust in your plan. What is it like a design trend that you like want
to see disappear like tomorrow? That’s that’s a good question. I mean maybe like Kolkata viola
for everything. I feel like it’s kind of gone bit everywhere too much maybe. I like using it in
like very thoughtful spaces or um with the right like materials around it. But I would say that
and then I just I don’t love I’m not like a gray person. And I think too much gray is Yeah. But I
I would say that’s kind of passed too. We’re we’re leaning more into warm tones. I do think it’s
trending more like everybody’s getting away from that. Hopefully hopefully like the speck homes
being built, they’re like let’s not just whitewash everything. Yeah, for sure. Okay, so social media
we always talk a lot about on this podcast. Um, I’m very very into the Twitter world because it’s
just an abyss of weird. Um, Julie hates it. Um, how I’m Yeah. How online are you when it comes to
just like the funny of like, you know, like the memes of maybe Connor or whatever. You know what I
mean? Stuff like that. Like I don’t have Twitter, so I’m on your team. Julie, don’t get it. Yeah.
No, I feel like I don’t need another app because I feel like Instagram, Tik Tok are already
pretty consuming. But um I don’t know. I I say I definitely my for you page is a lot of that
for sure like funny videos or like little things coming up with hockey stuff. But um Connor
doesn’t have social media like someone else runs it for him. So I’m not really sending him
funny videos, but I definitely it’s that’s like communication with my friends. I love sending
like memes or funny videos on on Instagram. Okay. So, one of the reasons I asked this and
our producers were telling us about this and they just wanted to know how in on the joke you are, I
guess. Um, the McTuft thing. Oh, I haven’t heard I haven’t seen this. See, I was on TV. I don’t think
this is a thing. Like, I don’t think this I think this is dead. I need to know. What is it? It’s
so silly. Like, it’s so I can’t even believe it. Every time Connor with his helmet, like a piece
of his like hair comes out like of the helmet, he goes on a roll apparently. Like he’s like
unstoppable. So anytime they call him McTuff. MCtuft. I don’t know why. Yeah, it funny, but like
on if you go on Twitter and you just do a Twitter search or whatever um I can send you. She’s not
on Twitter, so you’re going to have to send her send screenshots. Yes. It’s like literally like
people are like, “Oh, Mtu is out. Um he’s about to go on a rampage. You know what I mean? So
it’s like a thing. That’s hilarious. Yeah. Was that Four Nations? People were talking about it.
Um Oh yeah, I’m gonna have to fill him in. I don’t think he knows about this. He’s going to start
pulling out his hair every game just to see if it works. I think the Edmonton the the social team
is very in on it. Um I don’t know about Instagram but on Twitter. So that’s funny. Yeah. I’m glad
you’re gonna notice Connor start doing a different hairstyle before. I am. Yeah. I’m gonna be like,
just grow your hair a little longer. It’ll work. Yeah, it’s just something. I don’t know where that
name comes from, though. For sure. Not that’s so funny. Yeah, Julie was very much like she will
not she will not know. And I was like, everyone everyone knows. Everyone looks whatever. Yeah,
I know. I I did not know that one. That’s That’s hilarious, though. That’s so funny. All right.
Well, nodded on the joke. Um, okay. So, another thing that we asked you to do um in preparing for
this was um a two truth and a lie so that we can guess what you’re lying about. So, I did do this.
I’m so um the thing is that I have two and I don’t know which one is better. Okay. Well, let’s do you
want me to do I’ll start with one. Okay. Okay. The first one is I can do a loon call. I can bake
sourdough from scratch without a recipe. And I used to downhill ski race rice. I don’t think he
used to downhill ski race. I don’t I don’t think she can cook sourdough even though she probably
can. I think she probably has to have a recipe and follow. Maybe that wasn’t Yeah, that might
have been an easy layup because we would assume that she could. It’s about time I get one of these
right. Yeah. What is it? Okay. You want me to tell you? Yeah. Julie’s right. You won for one. You
need a recipe or you can’t even do I’m allergic to gluten, so I can’t even make sour. Oh, okay. Yeah,
but you could you probably could rock a sourdough if you could like, you know, I bet I tried. Yeah,
you’d have to schedule it in, though, because I hear it’s really tedious with like a couple days
of like sitting there. So, yeah. Wow. I feel a ski racer. Yes. that when I was growing up, um
my older brother, he was actually he went to an academy and he he did that like professionally for
a really long time and then yeah, our parents just got all of us into it. Um but yeah, Somal GS used
to ski race. Wow. Wow. Do you go to B often and or somewhere around there? people know the closest
place to Sbury. We actually had the tiniest little hill in Sbury. There was one lift and two runs and
our coach on days that it was busy would make us put our skis on our back and walk up the hill to
do the to do the run. So, it was very small, but um the closest place would be like Thunder Bay,
Sue St. Marie. We would have long ski races there or um or like Callingwood area. Those were the
the places around us. Okay. And a loon call. Yeah, I can do a loon call. Yeah, we’re gonna ask you.
Yeah. Can we Can we hear it? Yeah. Okay. Hold on. There it is. There it is. There it is. Yeah.
That was That’s amazing. That’s way better than my duck call that I was trying to do
last call. Now I have to hear that. No, no, it it was a one time show. That was You You’ll
have to go listen to the last episode. It was This is a backtoback like bird call. Yeah. language
like doing here. That was beautiful. Yeah, that was had Did we learn that in school or
um I’m just from Northern Ontario, you know, lots of loons out there just just surviving out
there. That’s fabulous. I love that. Um Okay. Well, thank you for sharing that with us. Um you
had another one, too. I I do have another list. Let’s see. Let’s roll with that. I want I want
to hear more. Yeah, this is fun. Um, I grew up taking violin lessons and can play by ear. I know
most of the period periodic table of elements off by hand. I’m afraid of turtles. I think you
know the periodic table of elements because you’re a designer. I don’t think you know the
violin. I think you love turtles. I don’t know. What is it? Okay. Um, it’s actually the violin
because I did play the violin, but I cannot play it off by like I bought one that last year and I
tried to play it and I’m not good anymore. See, it’s technicality. But technicality, you can play
the violin though. I can but not by ear. Okay, that’s cool. You’re scared of turtles. Yeah, I’m
like weirdly afraid of turtles. I don’t know why. So Connor’s in our research Connor to catch up and
you’re afraid of turtles. Yes. Any other? I know. It’s weird. Yeah. It’s weird. Those are our only
like real weird fears. But yeah, it’s a thing. Like all kinds of turtles like just like if you
went to Yeah. Oh, I just can’t like handle that they have like their head pops out of the shell.
I don’t know. It just freaks me out. Oh my god. That’s And I think I grew up like around snapping
turtles and that those were terrifying growing up. So I would say that’s probably where it started.
Yeah. You have some trauma related around turtle. Turtles and ketchup are no-go in the McDavid
household. Speaking of the Connor ketchup thing, did you see those fans dressing up as ketchup? I
I did and I’ve heard about He’s He’s seen them, too. He’s like, people come and dress up as
ketchup now. I’m like, I’m so sorry I exposed you on that show. Yeah. Stack. It was so subtle, but
of course like the internet takes it and they’re like I know in a ketchup bottle. Yeah. I mean, you
said he doesn’t take things seriously. I feel like that’s like a funny, you know what I mean? Like
seeing seeing a man he thinks that he does think it’s funny and like he still is afraid of ketchup.
He won’t have it. So that’s wild. Yeah, especially for a Canadian that’s like kind of a wild thing.
But him and his brother I think like early onset fear of ketchup. I don’t know what happened.
They’ve never even tried it to be honest. Is it allowed in your household? Like can you have
um it is but like if it’s if I’m having it with a meal I have to get it from the fridge. He will
not put it back in the fridge or like touch the bottle or Wow. It has to be at like the other end.
Yeah. It’s almost like a superstition but it’s a fear like you know what I mean? Exactly. Don’t you
wonder what like the setup is at the rink at like the dining table there? Like they’re like, “Okay,
this is the section where the ketchup goes.” Yeah, it’s definitely hidden somewhere. Well, you
wonder too like if like a new teammate comes or something and sits next to him at lunch and just
like ketchup. He’s, you know, like Michael Misa and Connor can never play together is the pearl
of the story. Yes. I So, I have an 18-year-old rookie living with us who slathers ketchup
on quite literally everything. Uh, like from a salad to sushi, he Cat got a Costco membership
just to get ketchup for him. Hilarious. He’s like obsessed. So, the two of them can’t team Canada
together. Yeah, they would have to be on other ends of the table for sure. That is so funny.
Okay. Well, we like to wrap up, and this one’s a little bit longer than a wrap-up, but with some
quick shootout questions. Um, so again, yeah, we always say quick. We always say quick. If you want
to elaborate, go for it. Um, other than Survivor, what TV shows are you and Connor watching right
now? Um, All Her Faults. And we just finished The Morning Show, and we’re gonna uh No, that’s
it. That’s it right now. All Her Fault was like a really I binged that in one day. Well, in Canada,
they’re coming out episode by episode. So, I have We have to wait every week. Hey, hey, you. I
forgot about that. Yeah. So, we have to wait every week. We don’t even I kind of love that. It’s like
bring it back to like let’s pace ourselves. Like I I I can respect that. Not to give you spoilers,
it Yeah. The the finale is crazy. So, it’s Okay. I heard I heard it. I heard it’s good. I’m excited.
Um Okay. Who would play Connor in a movie? Oh. Um, okay. This is niche, but um, the actor who
is Meredith’s new love interest in Grey’s Anatomy. I don’t know his actual name, his real name. Like,
if you watch the new seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, he’s the new love interest. Yeah. Okay. I’m gonna
have to pull this up. Bob Bob, we’re gonna have to pull a sidebyside. Bob, send us a link. Actually,
let’s use Bob here. What about um you? Do you have any people like doppelgangers that people have
told you? Uh, well, I sometimes get like Rosie Huntington, but with Blonde, obviously, but I
don’t know that that or like I’ve gotten Emily Osmet one time. Um, those are really the only two
I’ve ever I’ve ever gotten. That’s funny. We We love when we have um like the guys on the podcast
because we love to ask them what who would their wives be because Yeah. I wonder what he would
answer. Yeah. It’s like, yeah, it’s always like not the best. It’s like the It’s like that trend
where you like painted each other. You like sat there and painted and then they show you the
picture and you’re like, “What the fuck?” Like, that’s how you see me. Yeah, those are
really good ones though. I love those. So, but we’ll have to look up the Grey’s Anatomy.
Oh, Scott Speedman is Scott Speedman. Yeah, that’s his name. Is his name? I don’t know. Just
like their attitude. Like I it’s just the way they move. Well, mannerisms. You would know better than
anyone. You know, those are very niche. I love it. What emoji do you and Connor send back the most?
Oh, I don’t know. Probably hearts. Just straight up heart for sure. Are you Are you a colored
heart person or are you I’m a red heart or a white heart? Probably solid. Solid. Yeah. We do a lot of
calling, so we don’t we don’t do a lot of emojis and we mostly just say good night. So that’s why
it’s Yeah. The red hearts. Is he a FaceTime? Like a chronic FaceTime to you? Yeah, he’s calling or
FaceTiming. Just depends on the location if he’s out and about call. But yeah, we’re definitely
like more pick up the phone type people than texting. Who would cry first in a movie? Me. Yes,
me. I cry I cry like watching Survivor sometimes because I’m so proud of them. Like it just comes
out. I’m like what? Yeah. No, we we cry at Dancing with the Stars. Like I can’t laugh because this
is this is me and yeah all this imagine you were on the show. We’re going to put that out. We’re
big manifesttors. Yeah, we really I like this. Please manifest me being on the show. Okay. Go to
hangover cure. Oh. Um probably like a Coca-Cola. We’ve been recently making dirty sodas in the
office. Like Coca-Cola, a little bit of vanilla, and like milk or like cream. It’s actually really
good. Like I understand why the Mormons do it. But um that and then butter chicken. I love butter
chicken. I don’t know. We have great butter chicken here. Yeah. Really? Yeah. The um at what
is it? The JDub during the bubble. Like I feel like Ty had that. It was like the special
dish butter chicken every day. Yeah. No, it’s it’s like a famous chef and they lived in
the bubble there and so like that was like his Yeah. Anyway. Yeah. I loved it. Um okay. If not,
if not Edmonton or Mskoka um in the offseason, where would be a dream city to live in? I Okay.
Either maybe like New York. I love New York as a city, but I don’t know if it would be too busy for
me. Or somewhere near like a hill like, you know, Utah or like somewhere with snow and skiing. I
could live in a warm place, but I don’t know if that’s where I’d want to live. I like the changing
seasons and like dressing for the cold. Uh a celebrity that you’d love to design for. Oh, this
is a diff. I haven’t really thought about this before. Maybe like Kendall Jenner just because I
know she has good taste in interiors and design. So, and I like her aesthetic and I like I like
um Yeah, I feel like she has a good taste. So, she’d be a good client to to work on something
manifest that too. Yeah, she just moved into another house. I just saw her ID this morning. So,
that’s maybe why I’m inspired by Yeah. What is the worst fashion trend you’ve ever participated in?
Oh, chokers for sure. those like leather chokers that were like two tears. No, those were. But we
all did that. No, we all did that and I feel like they like came back for a minute like not long
ago. I I mean you’re like I never wanted to see those again. We’ve never thought to do that like
Watch What Happens Live where he shows pictures of like oldfashioned of the guest. You know what
I mean? Like kind of like a crazy thing for us to do, but it would be so funny. I went through like
a serious Abberal Lavine fan when I was or Abalene phase like the plaid skirts and the t-shirts and
stuff. Yeah. Yeah. I think we all we all Yeah. If you didn’t want to be skater boy whatever like fan
living. Yeah. Definitely all that. Um Okay. What is your Roman empire? Something that you think
about all the time. Uh I don’t know like new business ideas probably. Yeah. You’re just serial
entrepreneur. serial thinking about like how to solve problems and like I always look if like an
invention’s existed already I’m like oh this is a good idea I don’t know that’s probably is is
there like a pop culture thing that you’re like obsessed with like anything that just like you
know what like I’m I’m just like not that big into like pop culture I would say like I’m quite like
unaware of things going on um but I did really get into Dancing with the Stars I was like quite like
invested this year even though I’ve never watched it before. So, um, good year to start a fan. Yeah,
it was a good year to start. I’m a fan now. Yeah, it’s Who are you going for? I was Alex.
I really wanted to see Alex Earl win. Us, too. That was great. Yeah, that was my She was so
That last freestyle dance. Yeah, she was just so good. Mhm. She was so talented. But there was no
there was no losing. Like anybody who was like I’m just Whitney Carson, the pro that was with Robert.
like she I want to be her. I think she’s so cool that I’m like so beautiful. So I know she’s like
just the best photography is insane. I’m like that’s my show. If I want to go on a show it’s
that show. So I have to figure out how to become a star. That’s Julie’s Roman Empire. Roman Empire
Julie is Okay. Well, we have to manifest that for you then. Yeah. It’s just how do I become a star
to get on that show anyways? Um okay. What is one thing that Connor is as good at as he is hockey?
Oh my gosh, the list goes on. He’s really good at a lot of things. That’s why it’s hard to like play
against him in anything. Like he’s really good at chess. Like he just sits on his phone and plays
chess a lot. Oh. Um yeah. And tennis and like uh well all sports like it’s not it’s not
Yeah. It’s not Racket sports especially is not even fair when it comes to playing against the
guys. But chess, that’s interesting. Chess. Yep. That’s hard. Yeah, I know. And I really wanted
to learn and I just don’t think I can get there. Just seems too complicated. And I feel like he’s
taken like a year to get like really good. So I just I don’t know. Seems like a commitment. Can
you keep up with him at pickle ball? Like do you play together? I can. Yeah, I can. And we’re good
partners against other people. So um who’s more competitive? Both of us. I I think we’re equal.
Very equal. Yeah. So that’s why you got to play together. Yeah. I think I show my competitive
nature more in a sense like I’m more like I care more to win in like silly situations with against
family or like friends, but he’s less, you know, out there, but I know inside he internally is
very competitive. Yeah. Have you played pickle ball against another teammate? Has anyone taken
you both down in pickle ball? Like is there no actually we haven’t been beat undefeated but
this is an invitation. I love Lauren Lauren’s thinking of like some pickle ball like rooftop
situation in Edmonton to create. Seriously, we actually have a few good pickle ball centers
here. Oh, nice. Yeah, that makes sense. That would make sense. That would be awesome. Did you guys
play pickle ball on your uh joint honeymoon? Uh we did not. There was no opportunity to but damn
I was gonna say that turned into we have been on vacation. Yeah, we have been on vacation and it
was funny because the guys actually joined this like pickle ball tournament that the hotel was
having and so Celeste and I went and watched them and they they got crushed by this couple from
New York and it was like like a like a girl guy couple and he was like yelling at his partner
like get him just like they got crushed. Did you guys just die? Yeah, we were like, “What’s
going on? You guys are professional athletes. Come on.” Did the couple who beat them know they
were playing against two professional athletes? I don’t think I don’t think so. Probably not.
Yeah, that’s incredible. This didn’t go anywhere. Like there’s no video of this. This didn’t like
gain. No, it just it just lives in in here. Oh, how were the How were the egos after that? Were
they like practicing like we we can never let that happen again? They were okay. They they moved on
quick. That’s so funny. I love Shout out to that New York couple that had no idea. Yeah, if you’re
listening, you know who you took down, guys. Yeah. So funny. Okay. Do you have any pet peeves of
Connor? Um yeah, just how much he plays chess, honestly. Sometimes I’m like, are you watching
the show or are we playing chess? What’s going on? That is some I’ll kind of tie this question in
with that one though. What is Is there something that he like tries to help around the house with
and he just like isn’t that great at? You know what? No, he’s he’s pretty he’s pretty good at
like cleaning. I would say he doesn’t really do laundry, but Okay. And I don’t think he’s good
at it. Like he tends to shrink things. I feel or like I had this like white Mason set and he did
laundry this summer and he turned it like red. So you’re like, “No, thank you.” A nice ride
for helping. Yeah. No, it wasn’t great. Well, I love to hear that Connor’s like us. No one likes
laundry, so I’m will you share your endear Spotify wrapup with us? Oh yeah, sure. I just did the
Spotify wrap-up the other day and it was like mostly Morgan Wallen, mostly country. It was
just all country essentially. Love that. And it said my age was 72. Oh, old soul. I’ve been
seeing a lot of that. I’ve been seeing a lot of that with a lot of my friends. I think Can I get
my My theory is that that means you have a good taste in music because you’re listening to older
genres and it’s mixing in with the new stuff. So, that’s where I think we’re safe. We have the best.
Spotify is just trying to age me, I guess. I mean, imagine it said like you’re a 13-year-old boy.
Yeah. I guess it’s better than that. Yeah. Like I feel like the old a lot of my really good friends
are all getting that and sharing that and it’s just I think everyone’s bonding over that right
now which is funny. Yeah, for sure. Um Okay. What do you do? They have goal songs in Edmonton. Um
well like there’s just a goal song I think. Okay. So they don’t have like a personalized like
if Connor scores. Okay. No, but they do these like um like something comes up on the screen and
they’ll like I can’t remember what Connor says, but I know like Zachman’s was like him reading a
book cuz he’s like a like it’s like a children’s book with Zachman because he does he writes kids
books. Okay. Um so they do something personalized for each guy, but it’s like more of a graphic
thing on the Jumbotron. Okay. So what what do you think he would pick as his goal song if he were
to have one? Morgan Wallen. Like we both are big fans. probably just something like that. Ty and uh
in LA they chose goal songs and his was my goodies by Sierra. So um and he scored a lot that year. So
goodies just came on. Yeah, it was goodies that I still have this like lingering cough and these
laughs kept get ke get me going. I’m like Well, here’s another another question that we now love
asking people. Um Julie came up with this a few episodes ago. What would Connor’s theme song in
your head be? Like if you were to enter the room and like there was a song blasting his aura, what
would it be? Uh, like something calming, I would say. Oh, not my goodies. Not my goodies. No, not
that. I would say like something chill. Not that. Maybe like Sam, like a Sam Fender song or like
something like that or um Red Hot Chili Peppers. Like something like that. That’s a good one. Yeah.
So just like kind of gives his like calm or calm calm. He’s like grounded. I feel like that’s that
question. We need to start giving that one out early to think of because I would have to think
about that for Jeff for a while. I would I would like it’s hard. I would really have Do you have an
answer, Julie? No. Like I’m asking these questions and I don’t even have an answer. A couple more
and then we will wrap up and let you go. Um, do you have a favorite city that you travel during
the season? Like is there like a is there like a game that you’re like, I I’m that’s the road trip
I’m going on. So, I actually haven’t traveled in a really long time on the road other than playoffs.
Like I just notoriously just never we never went on the road. Like maybe seven years ago I would go
to like the New York games, but actually this year I’ve been doing a lot more on the road travel.
So, probably the New York series cuz it’s like three games. It was spread out this year, so
we got to go for like a good five nights. And um yeah. Is there a city is there a city or an
arena um that you haven’t been to that you are like, “Oh, I want to get there.” Oo, good qu. Um
honestly, I’d like to see probably Utah because I haven’t been to Salt Lake. So, it’s a good one. Um
I don’t know what there is. Is there The rink must be is it fairly new? I That’s a good question. I
think so. Yeah, we would need to be fact checked on on all of those details, but that would be a
great spot to go see. And it just it sounds like everything is amazing there. So, yeah, I I wish
I could have gone. Jeff is there right now. They play on Wednesday and I’m like they’re playing
back to back and that’s always hard too cuz you’re like h it’s not really like worth it. Do you have
superstitions like with playoffs and travel? Yeah, I do. I do. Yeah. But like I would say yeah like
if we go on the road for the first two games the playoffs and it it doesn’t go well like not going
back for the the next games for sure. Of course. Yeah. Um I feel like every team’s different so
that’s why I asked that just you know what I mean like some people don’t travel at all and some
people Yeah. You know so for sure. It just kind of depends. Yeah. It would just be a case byase
situation. I these superstitions. They really take up a lot of head space. They do. There’s
so many of them. So there are so many. I I can’t tell you how many bracelets are just sitting like
alone by themselves in my house because I’m like I can’t wear you again. Like Yeah. It’s just not
I know. The jewelry bag accessory thing is a real like Yeah. I I won’t like change the bag if it’s
working. Yeah. Is there is there a piece? So, we had this at when we were in the Stanley Cup finals
in Montreal and Julie and Line Change gave us a bunch of really great pieces, but some of them we
hated because, you know, Yeah. like burn it like burn the jersey. Do you have any from your um your
own line that you were like, “It’s cute, but I’m not wearing that thing again.” Oh, yeah. Like,
definitely. I think I wore my my like striped sweater, wool sweater, and it didn’t go well game.
And that was it. That was it. Striped sweater. Yeah. It was done. Yeah. Isn’t that a crazy labor
of love? But see, yeah, but I don’t think we believe in like the jacket thing. Like the jacket
is consistent. You can wear it every game. It’s not going to determine the end goal result. I
think that’s it’s also because you can blame it on like the combination of like, oh, maybe there
weren’t the certain number of wives wearing it one night, so it’s really not me. Then you’re blaming
other wives. You’re like, your fault. It’s no, it’s just like it’s like the combination of like,
well, the certain like mix didn’t go that way. So, it’s like you don’t have to take like I don’t
know. It’s the justification of like, okay, well, we can do it different this way. You sent the text
delicately urging people not to wear something in in Montreal. Remember you don’t have any memory.
It’s so cute, but like nobody wear that. Yes, now I do remember that. Yeah, the that jersey. It was
like a basketball jersey. Yeah, it was a and it was like a one time wonder and then it went to the
bin. Like I’ve never seen anything since. You know what? It makes sense in our heads. So that’s all
that matters. That’s all that matters. Um okay. Well, let’s wrap up here. Um what is one word
to describe your life right now? Um structured. Structured I will say. Love that. I love that.
That’s again kind of like Connor’s presence. That’s very like a calming nice vibe to end with.
So, exactly. A lot of people when we ask this they’re like chaotic or you know like you know
crazy wild. Well, it just makes so much sense. It’s like you’re with I think the the overall
being in the in the question box and all that the questions were all based around how does she do
it all? How does she balance and manage all these things? and clearly structure is the way. Um, and
it allows for sure you to be at your at your top and it allows Connor to focus on his art. Um, and
you guys together are just, you know, a force to be reckoned with, um, on and off the pickle ball
court. So, um, it was just it was so fun getting to talk to you today, Lauren. It was it was fun.
We had so much to cover. Sorry if it felt kind of all over the place, but that’s kind of how this
um, how this how this thing goes. So, um, we just appreciate you scheduling us into your busy day
and, um, this will be out tomorrow and we can’t wait for everybody to listen. Sounds good. Well,
thanks for having me. It was so much fun. It was really just easy and fun. So, loved it. All right,
we’re back. Uh, that was Lauren Kyle McDavid, a very, very, very requested guest. Um, so again,
ask and you shall receive, never offside. Uh, we love we love getting submissions. We love all
the questions we got for her. So, we really hope we delivered. Yeah. I mean, I just it was it was
so fun to talk to her. The two of us don’t we’ve not we don’t know her in person. So, I feel like
now we know so much and it was great. So, that was awesome. Yeah. Well, I want to go right into
what we’re all thinking and it’s Tyler. Tyler’s little spill, his little tumble he took during
warm-ups the other night. What happened? Okay, so I die. I don’t totally know what happened, but
I know that like him and Mac were like roughousing together and then Ty fell. So Ty sent me the the
video and I was he was like, I think I’m going to story this. I was like, yo, homeboy, that’s a grid
post. That is not This has to live forever. Yeah, we gota we got to live there. We love Mario
Kart, you know. We love Mario Kart. The banana peel emojis, everything. I was I was crying on
the couch laughing by myself last night. Like I you know sometimes we’re sometimes our husbands
aren’t as you know into social media as we are. So when they really embrace the fun of it it’s
you know we get it brings us happiness. Yeah. We get proud. But it’s it’s funny too on that one.
I I I commented that I want the other angles and uh fans have been sending it to me on like Twitter
and it’s it every angle just hits in a different I got to see it because his it all goes too fast
in the post and you kind of want to like slow it down but his like look and glare back at Mlin and
Mlin’s face like oh [ __ ] like why does that like it’s all genuinely concerned like oh my god more
of like oh dad’s gonna kill me like oh no like I you know I I you know I smashed a baseball
into the window. Oh god. Like that was the look. Instant regret almost like an instant like
probably what your boys Yeah. Yeah. Well, I want to know is Mac is Mac picking up the the $500
fine cuz when you fall in warm-ups or did they just like did I got to I got to ask but I’m pretty
sure Ty was going to be like that’s on you, Mac. But but knowing it’s funny knowing that we’ve let
people in on this podcast of Money on the Board, it’s so funny now that people are commenting
like, “Oh my god, that’s $500.” Even um Tanner Pearson commented 500o and I I died. I was like,
“Oh my god, now people will understand what that means.” Yeah, that’s so funny. Anyways, that was a
highlight. Not sure if it was a highlight for Ty, but it was a highlight for all of us to watch.
It kind of made me realize that Ty really needs a haircut, too. Did you see the slow-mo of
his hair? It was like insane. Like Yeah, he did have a little flip situation go like he had
to like do one of those and and flip it out of his uh face. So yeah, maybe a haircut’s on the
horizon. I was a mess. Um speaking speaking of hockey, funny the So Ty’s been on the road for a
whole week and Michael’s now doing a conditioning stint with the Barracuda, the AHL team. So,
I the other night I texted Ty and I was like, I think I’m gonna go to Michael’s game. Like, is
that weird? Oh, like a gun mom. Yeah. So, I I was, you know, I went. It was really fun. It was kind
of funny. The team left me a ticket with the other wives. And I thought that was a little weird, so
I like didn’t I didn’t go into that section. Um, I sat by myself, had a glass of wine, um, cheered
on Michael. It was the teddy bear toss game which was like a thing with him in the past. I guess
he in the OL maybe had a fit of rage and threw a teddy bear into the stands or something. So that
was like a big Yeah. I don’t know. It was there was a lot going on. It was everyone Yeah. Everyone
was kind of like wondering if he was going to like run it back and do something. Yeah. So I very
much enjoyed my uh my son’s game. Sounds like Sounds like a fun weekend. I was at a lot of
hockey too myself. But you you also were being a hockey mom. Oh, I was I was Yeah, we missed
literally all of Jeff’s games because I was at um little little kids games, but we strictly went
to yesterday Sunday. Jeff played at 5. Bears game ended at 6:00 and we were by the arena. So, I’m
like, we’re just going for dinner. I’m straight up going into the arena to feed my kids and say bye
to my husband after because they were getting on the plane and going to Utah. But I was like the
boys are like, “Why are we going for period?” I was like, “We’re not even going to watch the game.
We’re going to just eat and then go home. We’re going to eat. We’re going to get some energy out.”
Yeah. Yeah. It was like, you know, see other kids, say hi because it was an early game. Um, but
I was like, there’s like there’s no way I’m going home and cooking dinner for these guys
and whatever. And they have a beautiful family room for us with with like a whole spread. So,
I was gonna say, what was the It would have been stupid if I missed that exit, you know. Yeah.
Um, we have fajitas, pizza, chicken fingers, you name it. Um, yeah, it was it was um, so
that was our play. That was our weekend. Um, and that was that. It was And here we are Monday.
You know what? Okay, I have a question. So, now we have all of our Christmas parties coming
up. We have holiday parties, we have girls, we we always do White Elephants always. We should
talk about that more. Yeah, we we we because we talk about Halloween so much like Yeah, Halloween
got like eight episodes out of us. Christmas is where it’s at, too, because there’s always a girls
Christmas party. There’s always a team Christmas party like at the rink. Sometimes. There’s
always it’s I I feel like from thing or sorry from Halloween on it’s really just like you know
the schedule is just trying to fit all of these team bonding things in and it’s really like kind
of a special time for everyone. Um so I actually have a question that I want the listeners to DM me
about. Um so on Thanksgiving since I was hosting I thought I had creative control over it too in
terms of what people wore. I guess I didn’t. But um I I tried really hard to get everybody to wear
sharks onesies. Like I just tried to Thanksgiving to Thanksgiving. I thought it would have been like
an epic team photo. We’re all like not everybody’s as weird as you cat. No, it didn’t. It did not
hit. I think Felicia Wenberg was the only one that was like, “Yeah.” And everyone else was like,
“I have an outfit.” Yeah. Yeah. We’re gonna dress in fall. Yeah. Yes. Um, so can you just tell me
on DM? Would that have been funny or am I just weird? Just give give it to me. I’m going to give
you my DM right here live. I think that would be more appropriate to be like for a Christmas like
house like just around Christmas time. I would accept like we’re wearing PJ onesies. Yeah. Or
an ugly sweater. Thanksgiving. That’s kind of I mean I don’t know. You guys did it with the Kings
like a decade ago and maybe that’s where you Yeah, I’m a onesie girl, but it lives in your brain.
Yeah. Well, that was more Friendsgiving too vibes, but like I just I just thought everyone dressed
as a shark would have been really funny and I don’t think they’ve ever done it here before. So,
do like Christmas shark geese or something. Yeah, like maybe whoever comes over for New Year’s
Eve. Yeah, you got the entry is a shark one. Um, that’s so funny. Well, yep. We got all
of those parties coming up. We actually Who’s hosting your girls party? Are you guys Yeah, we’re
going to go to a winery. Oh, yeah. We’re gonna like really do a local thing. We’ve got so many
um we’ve got so many wineries, not just in Napa, like all all over San Jose. It’s kind of where
Losatus, we have tasting rooms that we really need to like I could walk to one right now. We we it’s
you need to tap into that. Yeah. So, I think we’re gonna do that white elephant per usual. You know,
the favorite things thing that gals are trying to do these days. It’s just too complicated. The NFL
does it like the Have you seen any NFL wag parties if we’re going to go here? Like, yes, but it seems
too complicated. Like, I don’t want to buy bring two gifts and like talk about my favorite things.
I’ve done it. I’ve done it from from just like you know like my book club moms in Michigan. I’ve done
it and it’s you bring three of your favorite thing like they’re all the same thing. It’s actually
pretty cool and it’s it’s seems cool. It just seems like we’re all so busy around this time of
year right now. Like it just kind of seems Yeah. I don’t know. It does. It does seems cool. do think
uh I think a previous team was it Pittsburgh or someone did a favorite things version of their
Christmas party and it looked it looked amazing. So, um, it’s always so fun no matter like white
elephant, you know, white elephant is though like it’s kind of like a different Some people
think white elephant is like a crappy gift. Yeah. You have to establish what the gift is. I
was going to ask you. So, we say white elephant, but it’s actually like a nice gift under a certain
price range. Um, and then it’s like that stealing game. And I always that’s what I always expect
for a girls Christmas party. And I love it. Um, it’s it’s so much fun. I was gonna say you’re
probably a good you’re probably a good gift buyer. I’m always so random. I feel like I mean,
yeah, a couple things. Oh, well, something line change is always uh a part of my go-to. It’s
always also like a copout because it’s it’s easy. Um, but again like what we talked about with
Lauren McDavid, like something from like those um like little marble trays or something with like
some match like a little match holder and a candle I think is a great idea. Um so yeah, I’m looking
forward to that. We are having ours in a couple weeks. Um and then we have a team party at the
rink. Um like the family skate um and things like that. That’s always family skate. That It’s that
time of the year. Family skate is my Yeah. God, it’s dust off the skates we use once a year.
Last year, the freaking coach of the Sharks made fun of me to everyone about how I think
he’s Yeah. Anyway, well, I think you should you have a you have a couple weeks. Go go go take
some lessons. Go. You and Michael go. Michael, you and Michael go take some skating
lessons and then report back. Yeah. Michael, can you can I to ride in my own car to the with
you tomorrow. Oh my gosh, that’s hilarious. Well, that is a wrap on this episode. We have We have
rambled now our way out of this, but go back and listen to previous episodes. We we talked with
Jeff Molson, the owner of the Canadians last week. We have so many good listens from this season.
I mean, the lineup this year has been Unreal, Sydney Martin, Nick Suzuki, Alec Martinez, like
you name it, we’ve like covered the spread. um this year. Uh next week, Cat, let’s talk about
fantasy football because I think I’m at the top of the leaderboard. We both we both we hate the
Eric Stone Street. Go back to his his episode. We both Yeah, we both clenched. Yeah, we’re both
in in the lead for our for our fantasy. So, that’s exciting. So, yeah. So, we’ll we’ll
we’ll touch on that next week. Let’s talk football. Let’s talk a little football next
week. Yes, we’ll talk football. And as as always, DMs are open for any guest ideas. Think about
who we’ve just had on and think about, you know, who who could be next. So, or ideas. Yeah, give
us some DMs. And don’t forget to follow us on our social account, Never Offside Pod, on Instagram.

Really grateful for everything that Connor & Lauren do for the city of Edmonton! 🙏
