Justin Herbert plays through injury to help Chargers beat Eagles | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
Any Chargers fans out there who got up early 4:00 a.m. Pacific time to tune in to Peacock to hear the praise being heaped upon their 9 and4 favorite team. They had to wait 49 minutes for a Chargers reference. Maryanne Doe is going to be very upset with us. There was a Maryanne Doe sighting last night, by the way. I wondered if ESPN would put her on TV again. She’s that very notorious. She She’s the one that is just so into it that the first time they showed her at a game, it’s like, did they pay some? Is that an actor? I mean, it is Hollywood after all. Like, she just had she had bad actor vibes. Like, she’s trying to act excited at a football game and is just doing it wrong. Anyway, she’s it’s real apparently. And she she may be watching right now saying, “Thank you for finally finally giving the Chargers some praise.” Let me let me give one piece of defensive praise as it relates to AJ Brown because there was, you know, before the fourth and four where Oay jumped into the neutral zone and Milada wisely reacted to it and they got the free first down. AJ Brown had a chance down the left sideline. He got a he got a hand on the ball and that wasn’t one of the plays he listed in his list of regrets. Maybe it should have been, but if you watch that back and this is that kind of subtle hook that arm defensive back, he got he cuz he got it. He cuz why why Hey AJ, why are you trying to catch it with one hand? Well, cuz the defensive back grabbed my arm. He grabbed my arm right before the ball came in and and it happened so fast. Nobody saw it. Great play. Great play by that defend. We’re taught make them make a one-handed catch. If you can be running, all that was was defensive back. He’s running. AJ Brown’s running. It just so happens at the same time as they pump their arms, the DB’s arm miraculously hits AJ Brown’s other arm. Maybe he did it on purpose. Maybe it just happens when good defensive backs turn, lean, locate, and find the ball. But I was watching and and like I just started smiling. And I was like, man, that is a great defensive back play to hook that arm, reach with the other hand, then let that other arm go as you reach right on time that the ref can never see it. Um, and again, you make them make a one-handed catch. And you know, sometimes we see it, but right there, that was a huge play in the game to to make sure uh that he couldn’t come down with that ball. And it was so subtle, but that’s how you avoid detection. They didn’t even the booth didn’t see it like and it’s something that and I just got lucky. I was looking in the right spot. Well, I mean and and and I guess the the the thing that as a viewer of football games, you can take forward. Any Chargers fans out there who are delighted that we’re finally talking about their team? When you see a receiver having to stick one hand out there when they show the replay, where’s the other arm and why wasn’t the other arm part of it? Is a guy just trying to be fancy or did maybe he get that arm grabbed and pulled away at the last split second and uh and and got away with it and didn’t get flagged? Uh you mentioned Herbert. He got sacked seven times and you know the he he had surgery where they put a plate and screws in his hand and one week later he played and the pad that was on there I mean it didn’t look all that intricate or large and then meanwhile you know it’s funny they Laura Rutled a sideline reporter he had his elbow that wouldn’t stop bleeding She She called it a flesh wound. That’s a hell of a flesh wound if they can’t get the thing to stop bleeding and they’re constantly changing out the bandage cuz I that that’s called that’s called a nicked artery. That’s not a flesh wound. I mean this this guy really is a under, you know, under modern football standards. He’s a throwback. He’s a warrior. Nothing stops him. Nothing deters him. There was no way he was going to miss that game. He was under siege all night and ultimately they they pulled off the victory and he did everything in his power and then some and he didn’t have the help around him that he could have had and it just makes me wonder how far this team can go despite being nine and four if you’re not going to have you know enough receivers to get separation if the running game isn’t going to be where it needs to be and you know the defense bent but didn’t break and they they caused those five turnovers twoon-one play But you you that that’s not going to happen all the time. That that he just needs more. He needs more from the others around him to to take this team to where it wants to go. Yeah. And then you think about their tackle Pipkins, he went out last night uh and got hurt as well. Justin Herbert last night was phenomenal from the standpoint of like I think we all knew that Harbaugh loved him and you you understood like there’s never been someone that hasn’t talked about how talented Justin Herbert was but watching a guy go out there and as they were as we were playing those highlights he’s stiff arming he’s pushing people away with the hand that he just had surgery with and I thought one of the most telling things about when you talk about your quarterback’s a warrior and your quarterback is everything to your team. They start uh overtime with a QB designed run. He he they do zone read and Herbert keeps the ball. It was just like of all times to run a quarterback design run like the guy’s other hand like you’re trying for it not to get hit and you can see on one of those plays like the DB is punching at the ball, misses the ball and you’re like, “Well, good thing he missed.” No, cuz he hits his other hand. And what I loved about Herbert was a couple times he made a face, but there was no like every time he hit the ground, him staring at his hand wondering. It was a guy that was on a mission of we’re here right now. I’m the reason that we get over the hump and we continue to win and I’m not stopping until we win and we get in the playoffs. And it it it was just fun to watch. Even though the game was nasty and it was sloppy, watching him go out there and compete sometimes at certain points where you’re like, “Herbert, just get rid of the ball. Get out of this bad situation.” He stood in there time and time again, not caring really about the bad results, just waiting to make the big play and make the play to win the game. And ultimately, that’s what that’s what they were able to do on that overtime drive. You know, I’m a big fan of studying player demeanor, especially quarterbacks. And there’s a common thread, I think, from the two quarterbacks we saw last night. They’re the same all the time, the same vibe all the time. It doesn’t change. There’s no roller coaster. It’s it’s just the same, the same, the same. And my observation slashcriticism is this, and it could apply to either guy, Devin. There’s a fine line between unflapable and coming off as disinterested. Now, I think Herz falls closer to that category, and that’s what Herz has become kind of a tough nut to crack because he’s always the same. We played it sound earlier. He’s always the same. win or lose, he’s always the same. When the season is in freef fall and you’re that same guy that is always like unflapable, there is a point where some, especially the very zealous Eagles fans who want it as badly as they want anything and they’re going to get upset if they sense the people involved in the team don’t want it as badly as they do. I think that cool can be a problem now that the the focus is going to be on him in Philly after last night. I I think it bothers people if someone seems unbothered, if that makes any sense. And that’s going to become part of this narrative now. And it it’s either going to be direct or it’s going to be subtle, but I think it’s gonna make the people who were mad about his performance last night even more upset that he didn’t seem upset. Does that make any sense at all? It does. It’s such a weird thing because there’s this fine line where people want their favorite players and their star athletes to remain calm and be able to handle every situation. But then there’s this fine line that fans and people want to see the human side of get frustrated, get pissed off. People used to love when Tom Brady came to the sideline and slammed the tablet. I mean, people Charger fans love that Justin Herbert probably didn’t want to do the interview with Laura Rutled last night. Even though to anybody that’s ever been in football knows like, “Hey, man, you’re the starting quarterback that just won Monday Night Football.” Of course, they’re going to grab you after the game to talk to you. Like, what what do you mean you want to go celebrate with your teammates? Yeah, you’re going to do it right after this 20 second soundbite that you do. But I think people saw that and they were like like I saw people tweeting Justin Herbert just wants to celebrate with his team. Like that was an emotion right or wrong that people were like that’s that’s my quarterback. I think people love to say that. And when Jaylen Hurst wins people love that. When he doesn’t win they’re like I want more. I want this. I don’t again I don’t know Jaylen Hurst personally but to me if for this to be like an act or something man he he’s keeping it going for way too long. I just think that’s that’s who he is. I think the thing that you that we need to all pay attention to is how close is he with his teammates that do they feel that’s just who he is that like are they fine with it? because that’s now the m this is a moment in time where if things don’t go well if they don’t play well Sunday which like you brought up all of those things play a part like playing on the west coast getting back at 7:30 8:00 a.m. depend on how you go to the airport. Do you go as a team? How far do you live from the airport? What time do you get home? Like you don’t you don’t really sleep. Like depending on if you can sleep on the plane. So now you kind of you spend all day on your Tuesday, your off day trying to catch up on sleep. Do you have kids? Do you have a f like all of that plays a part? Next thing you know, they’re going to show up tomorrow morning and maybe I know remember in New England sometimes you do a later start to try to catch up on sleep, but they’re going to show up and they’re going to be like, “Oh, damn. We’re we’re on our next opponent already.” Like, damn, I got to turn my brain around, you know, Tuesday, Tuesday, today, they got to turn on some Raiders film. They got to watch the game back from like you have a lot to do. And sometimes it’s a little easier to do it when you won and you’re like, “Hey, I want to turn on this film we just played last night. I want to watch it because we played well and now I want to move on.” Like, they’re going to be in a situation where they got to turn the page quickly and if it doesn’t happen, we said it earlier, this whole thing can fall apart and fall apart in a hurry. Im glad they brought up Hurts lame facade of ‘mr cool guy’. He’s so lame and thinks it’s hip lol
Florio is an idiot! Can't bear to hear his takes
Okay, but the refs were missing TONS of calls last night. How about that hold on Mack for the Saquan td? Eagles got away with A LOT last night.
⚡️⚡️⚡️🤫
Herbert is the definition of a DAWG! Dudes insane
Herbert had Eminem's Lose Yourself in one ear and Not Afraid in the other.
The chargers barely beat a team who turned it over 5x.. I wouldn’t put to many brain cells into wondering how far they can go lol
Smoking that Eagles pack⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🚬
Guess yall haven't fired your audio guy yet.. can still hear that feedback 😂
bringing up a possible missed call is WILD when you don’t mention that the only reason the eagles got a single TD in the game is because of a blatant holding non-call. Game would have been over before OT
Offensive play calling and lack of game planning Didn't do any favors for Herbert. Poor guy… Offensive malpractice
Herbert trying to blow off Laura after the game was my favorite part. LOL
Devin “And Again…” McCourty 🤦🏼♂️🙄
I would say that 30% to 40% of PI calls are controversial. I have seen more phantom calls this year than ever – zero contact between the defender and receiver and the receiver falls down. This has to be cleaned up.
If you have ever broken a bone, the pain can be excruciating when bumped or touched. Can you imagine playing an NFL game and getting smashed 20 times in a game. Herbert is a Warrior!
Chargers offensive line is beyond atrocious, Bozeman is the worst starting center in football
If the Patriots beat the Bills next week and we (Charger fan⚡️) beat the Chiefs, I think we should rest Herbert for the game vs. the Cowboys… the playoff position wouldn’t change regardless of the outcome vs the Cowboys should this scenario play out.
The refs tried their best to hold the Vegas line last night. They tried to make sure they won.
Eagles O line had about a dozen holding penalties NOT CALLED.
And you wonder why fans say it’s rigged.
Mahomes and Herbert are in the EXACT same situation THIS year (Horrible o lines)
Look who’s elevating their team regardless?
Everyone is mad at Herbert and he was completely ripped on painkillers lol. Give the man a break
People hate to see the bolts succeed. Criticized for having passionate fans, criticized for no flags that happen to them every game.
Chargers O line is the worst. Herbert sacked 7 times. Still found a way to get the W
Cooper Dejean did the same thing to Ladd all night
The Eagles need a real HC. The dude still doesn't know anything. Why can't the Eagles have a coach like Vrabel or McVay or somebody like these dudes
Some of these media pundits try to equate blodix with justin herbert…
Thanks LFG ⚡⚡⚡
Cam heart player of the game
Chargers Fans Excited in Upstate New York!!!
Eagles fanbase and those in the media that shill for them are endlessly petulant. They expect perfection and thrive on the negativity when the team doesn’t meet that expectation
Maryanne Do is 100% a paid employee of the Spanos family. I've been a Chargers fan my entire life and I've never once seen her until recently.
Defenses dominated and played til their breaking point. It came down to who had more grit, Jalen H. or Justin H. with a broken arm 😂
⚡Let's go baby ⚡
Is it crazier that Eagles fell to chargers with such a huge gap in standings in front of cowboys or that to keep the Chargers within reach of the Broncos?(
Herbert is doing MVP syht
Dicker so automatic, we don't even acknowledge it
