Reacting to latest Cubs rumors at 2025 MLB Winter Meetings | Cubs 360 | Marquee Sports Network

the rumor mill. As we know, things starting to bubble. Starting to heat up just a little bit. And all that heat right now, it’s centered around Alex Bregman, Boston Red Sox. Dot dot dot. Mhm. You see right here? We got some There’s the rumor mill. There. There’s nothing in those thought bubbles, though. But same finalist for Alex Bregman as last year. Red Sox, Tigers, and Cubs. We know that there is that familiarity there with Alex Cora and Boston and AJ Hinch and the Tigers. But the Cubs right now, they seem to be that interesting third team that always comes in the mix at least. Well, yeah. And so, Alex Bregman is a guy that a lot of teams are always interested in because of what he can bring to your team. And that’s why the Cubs are being listed among finalists because as they were last year, they know what he can bring to third base. And I think he’s still in the conversation for the Cubs because you’re still trying to figure out who Matt Shaw is. And you know who you would have in Alex Bregman. You saw what he brought to a new clubhouse in the Red Sox. This is a guy who has the reputation, who works hard. He’s a great clubhouse presence. You get just, you know, everything that you see on that graphic. So, yeah. And and that is why that he is highly soughta. So, I think you’re looking more at this situation because when you’re looking at who the Cubs have, it’s why are you looking at Alex Bregman? because what do you have in Matt Shaw and because you’re still not answering that with a solid here’s who Matt Shaw is and that’s nothing against could Matt Shaw develop into a Alex Bregman like player if you look at the proportions very similar size-wise I don’t know if he’s Alex Bregman like because here’s the thing if you look at his average exit velocity this is someone who still needs to hit the ball harder so what do you see with younger players look he’s going to make adjustments you’re going to have ups and downs you hear that story all the time I think what was really positive is to see the way he improved in the second half. Now, I was also looking at what he did in the postseason and he goes two for 17. He had seven strikeouts and five walks. So, you’re seeing the best pitching in the game in those situations. But that’s why I still need to see more from Matt Shaw because I don’t know cuz you need you’re going to need him if you want to win. If you’re going after World Series, you’re going to need him to be just solid at third base. You got that defensively in the improvements, a gold glove finalist. But that’s why I think if you can bring in someone like an Alex Bregman when you lose a bat like Kyle Tucker, you bring in someone like Alex Bregman who kind of lifts everyone again. Yeah, why not? Yeah, we’re going to have more on Matt Shaw as the show unfolds, but I feel like some of his offensive numbers, they’re just that much more digestible when you take into consideration everything that he was able to do with the leather at the hot corner. So, uh, more rumor mill spinning. Cubs exploring closer options. I see that Robert Suarez Francis Romero like gasoline in the no. Who doesn’t? Yeah, it’s hard to catch up with and we know it’s all about that swing and miss and Suarez, the former San Diego Padre, at least for the time being right now, he does have that in his back pocket. Yeah. So, that fast ball, it’s averaging just over 98 miles per hour the last two seasons. 98. Okay. I mean, I that’s right up your alley, right? And so, we got a glimpse of him in the postseason just how electric he can be. The last two years he’s had the most saves in baseball. So, this is someone who has been there, done that. He’s an established closer. So then similar to what we were talking about with like Alex Bregman and Matt Shaw, it’s like who do the Cubs have? Why are you looking at a Robert Suarez? Well, I would argue that Daniel Palencia, I’m not really going into this season saying Daniel Palencia, you get the ninth again. You’re that guy. I think I’m not putting him there right away. I think he will be in the mix. I think he will pitch in high leverage situations. I think he will close games, but I don’t think with how the season ended that you’re just putting him there. He was not closing games by the end of the season. Sure. Um you were you had Andrew Kitridge, Brad Keller. Um and again, this is not to say that Daniel Palencia can’t and won’t. But here is a guy where you look at the numbers, you look at the stuff and he fits that. I need options. Give me all the pitching. Like you see how it goes in the postseason because that’s really what we’re talking about here. You need more arms. You want power arms on the back end of the bullpen and that’s what Asuarez can give you. High price tag probably. Um, but if he’s out there and he’s being rumored, let’s talk about it. So, there you go. 2.97 ERA in 2025. We’ll see if Suarez is able to look nifty in some Cubs pinstripes. Only time will tell, but we’ll tell you if the deal actually goes down. How about this one? The the not this. Congratulations. And this was not reported by Bob Night. Zack Gallon signing a lifetime contract over the weekend. The only contract sign. Are are those spicy margaritas there? A little taheen around the rim. looking to keep life spicy right there. Some rings and corresponding tattoos. Kudos to Zack Gallon and his better half. That that’s good news right there. But uh how about But he was a cub for like 10 minutes. Yeah. The Bobby Knight. How about that? Yeah. So that got exciting for a little bit. Now we’re back to the rumor mill again. I think it just proves where their Cubs are at pitching wise. They are evaluating their options. Someone like Zack Gallon is coming off of a down year. Really erra wise, the worst of his career. So could that lower the price tag? Sure. I mean, I think you’ve got in the fold, you hear the Michael King name, you hear uh Zack Gallon. Um, you’re still looking at the Japanese market. So, I think that this is just part of where the Cubs are going because you’re always looking to add arms. [Music]

  1. The Cubs float out these sorties about being involved in the pursuit of a big time free agent only to give the illusion of making you think they actually made an effort.

  2. This all smoke. cubs proly ant even met with these guys. You guys remember when otiny was mention to the cubs forever. Find out cubs never. Even met with him.

  3. SIGN TREVOR BAUER! League minimum contract for a Cy Young pitcher is a no brainer! Low risk, high reward and it wouldn't hurt our ability to spend on relievers and bats. Not signing him is the same as admitting that you don't really care about winning!
