  1. It is what it is. Both opinions are correct. He had to be back. He’s the leader of this team and, due to the age of our best players, we need to win now. His OBP and HR power are crucial especially in an age when doubles and triples are trending way down. Simply had to re-sign him. On the other hand, it was as classic of a contract year performance as it gets. He’ll likely never reach those numbers again. 5 years was at the maximum end of the prediction spectrum, and is certainly longer than ideal. He also locks up a DH spot that would have been useful to keep other aging players like Bryce, Trea, and JT (if he returns) fresh. I’m happy he’s back and I hope Dave is going to be a little more creative than years past in other areas of the roster.

  2. I’d rather see the money go to rebuilding the team with new young blood. If you disagree now you will agree when he pulls a muscle and is out 15 games early in the season. We’ve seen it already. Fool me once…shame on you. Fool me 5 or 6 times….
