[McWilliams] Sox out on Bichette

  1. Thank god, he’s the one “big” free agent I really would hesitate to give a market value contract to

  2. Bichette has more risks of a contract not aging well since he’s a poor defender already. Not saying his bat wouldn’t be a great add, but for the money he wants I’d rather spend it elsewhere.

  3. He’s a very good player but he seemed like the least likely out of the Bregman/ Ketel/ Bo contingent.

  4. Okay, I also think Campbell at some point can be a light version. The defense and age profile of Bichette scares me a lot. First 3 years are going to be fine but from year 5 to 8 us going to be brutal. A team might stick him in the corner outfield. It doesnt fit us.

  5. Good. I want no part of a bad defensive shortstop who relies heavily on BABIP to provide offensive value.

  6. I’m relieved. There’s some serious red flags in Bichette’s game. High probability any contract exceeding 4 years becomes an albatross.

  7. Bichette is the type of guy I’d have loved to see as a Red Sox for his pre-arbitration and/or arbitration years, but I want nothing to do with them as a free agent going into his 30s. He doesn’t look like the type who is going to age well or be especially reliable on both sides of the ball.
