My unrealistic hope is that they use deferred payments to manage Bregman and Alonso while staying under the second threshold (only saying that because it’s ownership’s priority). Then trade for another pitcher and sign a reliever or two.
Marte would be amazing I’d rather have Meyer at 3rd than 2nd anyways . Marte and Alonso would give us the best lineup in the league

Yeah but one is via a trade and one is a free agent without pick compensation. Sign Bregman for gods sake. You know what he is and it’s just money. Marte only if you avoid sending Early or Tolle or even Bello

Marte is on paper the better choice. But, does his personality fit the team? Think A-Roid and Stanks. He was absolutely a monster on paper and helped them short term. But his drama with teammates started a decline. Though, in that situation, bad chemistry was a good thing.
In defense of Bregman he was a top 5 player in the league through Memorial day this year until he got hurt. Came back too early because the team was struggling and that tanked his numbers.
Was sporting a 156 wRC+ on May 23 and was on pace for like a 7.5 WAR season. 4th in the AL in fWAR at the time.
I love Marte more on the field, but Bregman overall is a better guy. He is a leader, while Marte is most certainly not.
And who do we have to give up to acquire Bregman?
Marte milks injuries at crucial times (allegedly) and can’t take a your mom joke. No thank you.
I want them both. However, the one thing that is interesting is Marte basically just had close to a career year while Bregman hasn’t matched his early career numbers. Also Alex had the injuries.
Bregman actually played MORE games in the last three seasons. I never would have guessed that.
I’m not sure either of these happen. They are gonna have to bump the money up because they will not give him the years he wants. Marte is going to be expensive like really expensive he’s only making 16 this year and 12 next year.

Marte is an elite player in the league while Bregman is just good. No doubt about it Marte is better. What you have to weight is Bregman is just money while Marte is assets.
I would love Marte but we will see what it takes to get him once traded.
Also, Bregman can’t be the only move for the offense. He’s not a 30/100 middle of the order kind of guy and hasn’t been that way for several years.
