GET UP | The refs gift Steelers the win – Dan Orlovsky on Aaron Rodgers beat Ravens 27-22
In Baltimore, everything turns on this play. The referees initially rule this Isaiah likely catch from 13 yards out as a touchdown would have given the Ravens the lead with less than 3 minutes remaining. But as you see, he loses the ball in the end zone. Less than a minute later, referee Alex Moore announces that it is an incompletion. The explanation is fairly complicated. After the game, the pool report was released. NFL vice president of instant replay Mark Butterworth said the control is the first aspect of the catch. The second aspect is two feet or a body part in bounds, which he did have. Then the third step is an act of detail. Please, please. Or you could get the third. Please stop. Just stop reading it, Greeny. Just stop. Just stop. That’s a touchdown. That that’s that’s an absolute touchdown. You know what you was reading? You was reading the word salad to justify why they took away that touchdown. We are making this way too complicated in the National Football League. What’s a touchdown? What’s not a touchdown? He literally had caught the ball. Okay, two steps. You’re you’re in the end zone. Like that’s a touchdown. I don’t understand. Like this is way too complicated. You know, my son is a big Ravens fan. So he called me yesterday after the game and I’m going, “Son, we don’t blame the refs.” Like the Ravens had chances. We don’t blame the refs. We don’t blame the refs. in life, you never want to blame the refs. You find a way to get it done. I’m about to blame the damn refs because you watch that game and of course the Ravens had many opportunities to get the job done. But the thing that jumps out to me is in the same game they had this call where this is not a catch, but you also have Aaron Rodgers have what was an interception and they called that a catch. Aaron Rogers caught the ball against his head for a split second, much shorter than this. Didn’t make a football play and they said, “No, it’s not an interception. It’s an Aaron Rogers uh an Aaron Rogers catch for a loss. And it to me, I don’t understand how you can have that that catch right there where it’s two steps with possession of the ball. We’re not going to call that a touchdown. But then you can have this version of Aaron Rogers and we’re not going to call this an interception because somehow right here, right here for a split second, Aaron Rogers has two feet on the ground in possession or two knees on the ground possession of the ball. How can this be a reception by Aaron Rogers, but that by Isaiah Likely in the end zone, which was much clearer control, not be a touchdown by Isaiah like My question is this. How does a player make a move come into the game in the end zone? What is What is the move that would be coming? I’m in the end zone. The ball’s crossed the the goal line. I’ve got two feet down. I don’t know what would what would be the next necessary third move coming to the game. I’m in the freaking end zone. He looks to me like he is holding the ball purposely away from the defensive back. That is a football move, right? That is two of a football move. No movement from the ball. I just think when you watch it, it looks like a touchdown. And I’ve got two sources who tell me it is a touchdown. My left eye and my right eye. This also happens in the game when they call that that penalty on special teams and that takes off a field goal and it puts a touchdown on the board for Pittsburgh. Yeah, we are going commercial free this morning for a long ways here. I’m not going to a break for another 25 minutes. I’m getting back to all the football. These two guys have to have their heavyweight battle about what happened in Green Bay yesterday and we’re going to do that in just a couple of minutes. Freestyle Libre and our next stop is Snowy Buffalo. Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. They were both so good early in this game. And then in the fourth quarter, Allen’s got a lane. Yeah, ridiculous job by Dion Dawkins picking up a pressure guy. Free runner. Josh pumps him. He jumps in the air. No one on the defense has eyes on him. 40-yard touchdown. And so the Bills pull within three. And then Joe Burrow, what did he do? Yeah, this is a corner blitz. Josh is trying to or Joe’s trying to answer the corner blitz by dumping it off to Jamar. Just a ridiculous play by Christian Brenford. Clap at the end and they had Buffalo in a third and 15 quarterback leg. This is crazy. This is Josh. I mean, again, not not a ton of eyes on him, but just the the best player in the field. Yep. And that’s the play that ends it. And so an absolute thriller. This game was so much fun to watch, especially that first half Dwood. The snow was falling and you got Allen and Joe Burrow and two quarterbacks as good as any two basically that we’ve ever seen playing so brilliantly. And then all turns on those two plays. That was that was really the gist of the game, right? Like you saw for most of the game the Cincinnati Bengals was in was in control of that game. like Joe Burrow was absolutely dealing in those weather conditions and then all of a sudden those two, you know, the obviously the one where he was seemed like he was shot putting the ball out there and and then obviously the big six right here and then the next the next pass was was a tip pass for the intercept. If you were watching this game, you could be like tricked into believing that you’re watching two championship level teams going at it. But that wasn’t it, man. Those defenses are bad. Josh Allen and Burrow are incredible. those tight ends on that Bills offense were awesome. Of course, Cooks is good when he doesn’t fumble. But these teams are so flawed on the defensive side of the ball. It makes it so much more fun to watch this quarterback. Dan, I need you to explain to me the first Burrow interception though because he’s playing so brilliantly. We were all watching this game together. Some of us in the room were after Sunday Countdown and I I got I I rarely do. I got out of my chair and screamed like what the hell just happened? Yeah. So, we call this a cut split by the receiver, meaning he’s closer to the offensive tackle. And what happens is defenses this year across the NFL have decided we’re going to blitz the corner to defend against the run. That’s why we’re doing it to defend against the run. Benford blitzes. Joe sees the blitz and instead of handing it off cuz you’re not blocking that guy. The answer at times is to just replace the blitzing corner with the throw quickly to your receiver. I think the weather plays a factor. That’s why it’s a two-hand shot put. So, it’s probably the process of doing the right thing. It’s just a bad result. Shy, what do you make of it all? There was a little while there where you began to wonder whether this Bengals team could go on some type of extended Yes, they won in Baltimore on Thanksgiving. They’re beating Buffalo in Buffalo. They have Joe Burrow back and suddenly it feels like all things are possible. And just like that, in the span of that one play, it just shifts and changes and now Burrow’s back and it looks like they’re not going to have enough. And it looked like for a little bit of time they were on a magical run. That’s what it felt like to me when I’m watching them. I completely agree. Very quickly around the horn here on this next Sunday, Bills Patriots the rematch. Buffalo is a one and a half point favorite on the road. Are the Bills a Super Bowl contender in your mind in the AFC? Nick, I want to say no, but then I look at the rest of the AFC and it’s like they got Josh Allen. They got a defense that’s not consistently good, but can create turnovers. I think that they could make it to the Super Bowl. It depends on how good the Patriots can get between now and and the championship Super Bowl. It it looks Allen is going to be in the playoffs. It looks like Lamar may not be. Momes may not be. Burrow may not be. It’s the This is going to be the easiest road for Josh Allen in his in his career in Buffalo. Yeah. His biggest nemesis is not there to shoot him down. I mean, that that’s a big deal. Yeah, I it’s the easiest path he’s ever had. I agree with D. Wood on that. Um at home, if they could find a way to be at home, I would pick them to go to Super Bowl. If they win next Sunday, they’ll have a fighting chance. Stever getting those dude. We’ll see. In the meantime, the other crazy game in the AFC yesterday, but we have a very special guest in our studio today as the entire the whole world watched on Friday. The FIFA World Cup draws taking place. The US of course co-hosting the tournament alongside Canada and Mexico. And the USA was drawn into by all accounts a favorable group with Paraguay, Australia, and the winner of a four team playoff between Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, and Kosovo. And we have in our studio a name you’ll be hearing a lot this summer. Matt Freeze, our goalie is here, everybody. How are you, Matt? Great to see you. So, we have a couple of minutes here on a Monday. I know you’re a crazy Eagle fan, so you’re getting ready to watch your game tonight, but we’ll all be watching your games this summer. What was your reaction and the reaction of your team to the draw on Friday? the the reaction was a little bit um just disbelief in the LA out of our last three games, two of them were Paraguay and Australia and those are the two that we know we’re playing next summer and so it’s a little bit uh unusual in that. Um obviously going to be a lot of familiar familiarity on both sides but um I’ve kind of said this from the get-go. I didn’t really care who was going to be in the group. The goal is to beat whoever is there obviously. So and and do you get into like a I’m glad we avoided them or they’re in there. We feel good about the draw. Is that are those the kinds of conversations that take place amongst the guys on the team? Uh a little bit here and there, but not too much. Again, it if the goal is to win the final, you’re going to have to beat a lot of teams along the way. So, tell us about what your expectations are for this group. It’ll be here. You’re in this group D here where a lot of people will have expectations for the US has gotten out of the group in the last three World Cups. How would you define your team’s expectations? What do you consider to be realistic expectations for this World Cup being played here? Yeah, I mean we we’ve talked about it as a team and uh the very clear ambition, the goal is is to be at the top to be, you know, to to win the final. Um and you know, there there’s a lot of steps along the way, but uh that’s the very clear ambition of the team. That’s what we have in our heads. What is it like knowing that the games will be played here? I mean, I I’ve been watching the World Cup all my life, obviously, as have you, and you see what it’s like in the home nations and what the reactions are. I actually covered uh some of the World Cup action when it was here in 1994 in Chicago. What What is your expectation as far as that and the feelings about having it playing in front of the American fans? Oh, it’s going to be it’s going to be incredible. Um you know, someone was asking me, “Oh, is it is it a dream come true for something like this to happen?” And uh it’s difficult to say it’s a dream come true because 20 years ago when I was dreaming about this, we had no idea it was going to be in America. It’s even better than than anything I could have dreamed about. Te tell everybody about the team. I’m just for the people at the lot.

Learn the rules ..need the third step
Rigged!!!
The Ravens had plenty of chances to win coming from a Seahawks fan one play isn't why you lost.
dude caught that pass like the ball was hallow iron, & his palms were highly magnetic…then took two frickin steps with total control.
ravens got robbed on that play.
i wanted them to lose though, because if they miss out on the playoffs this season… that should get harbaugh fired.
ROBBERY AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL !!😳
The difference between the Rodgers catch and the the touched that wasn't was simply that Rodgers had possession and was on his knees which downs the football and ends the play. The receiver didn't complete the catch Porter made the play and Likely didn't simple as that.
You can’t let a player or the ground knock the ball out of your hands before that football move. Arod had his knee on the ground. If you are already grounded when you catch no need for third step just some type of ball control.
Touchdown. He finished the touchdown. He had control and took 2 steps. Play was complete. It was knocked out after the TD was completed
You guys are always tying to say it was luck plus talk bad about the steelers dan stop hating also you must , stopped this stuff guys, you know you are wrong. Greedy do listening to that ex new England players,he don't like Pittsburgh too. Just like Mike T.and rex
TD
If you watch it in real speed it literally is an incomplete pass and idk how you can say it isn't..
Trust me , the steelers fan base knows exactly how it feels! Jesse james caught that ball!
I'm going to tell y'all the same thing us steelers fans were told…."BARK AT THE MOON" no one else cares, don't ever leave the game for the officials to decide. Do better.
Not a touchdown, if you catch the ball in the end zone and get 2 feet down u still have to complete the catch
Got to see it again. That was a touchdown by the Ravens.A catch.
With all due respect to Dan, while I agree that Likely's catch was a TD and a bad call by replay. The Steelers earned that victory. Sorry if Dan and others disagree. Yet that might be the best game Tomlin has coached in three years. The Steelers were poised, steadfast and did not panic at all. If the Steelers played like this all season they would have more than a one game lead in the AFC North.
These guys is too slow to be professionals!! Rodgers knees was down! The rules is the rules fr. Instead of holding the ball out trying to make it a fancy catch. He should have pulled it in and tucked it.
ESPN haters 😂
Got to survive with the bqll
What a incompetent fool everyone knows a knee down the play is over when he is talking about the Rodgers play. A horrible example
Pitt was awarded a TD in the GB game weeks ago. Same deal 2 handed catch, 2 feet down ball loose after all that TD awarded. 3 feet now needed, well for the moment until it doesn’t.
Aaron never finished the catch the Raven did.
Not a TD
It was a td, point blank period!!!! Hot garbage refs!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 #RavenNation💜💜💜💜💜💜
people comical like this was the last play of the game or something.
This is a bunch of grown men that can't handle loss 😂😂 take the L ya big man babies
TWO refs called it a TD, and then the camera cuts away, and then the offense was on the field again = CONSPIRACY
Sry Ravens… these been the rules! Catching going out of bounds and in the middle of the field are different! Endzone doesn't matter! Common football move is taking a 3rd step in the endzone! If he would have just brought the ball into his chest instead of tying to hand grab it, its a touchdown
BYE!!!!!!! they did not gift nothing!😂😂😂😂.
This rule was changed in 2018 to add the football move portion of the catch after multiple famous examples (Megatron, Dez Bryant, Jesse James).
This has been in the rules for SEVEN YEARS. The fact that these “experts” do not understand a 7-year old rule proves their incompetence.
Tucking the ball away is common
I'm not Steelers fan at all but Likely was being careless with the ball why in the hell was he holding it out was beyond me
Uh oh someone call the waaaambulance!!
These commentators are too biased. They also are too stupid. Instead of discussing the ravens being 6-7 and not playing to their identity, let’s talk about this one game and act like the league is out to get them. They are more mad that the bengals lost because they was hoping for more drama down the line. The Steelers winning leads us to the most boring road to the playoffs. If they beat the dolphins and then beat the lions they will make the last game pointless. I don’t remember when a week 18 afc north game wasn’t important.
I have seen many many such plays on the field and they are always ruled incomplete. The rules for a completion shouldn’t be different because the receiver is in the end zone. Also, Rodger’s had as much control, or more, of the ball as the Raven’s player when he was down by contact. The tie always goes to the offense.
Refs called it right. The replay or box single man crew switched it wrong. It was a catch..Rodgers didn't have possession that was ravens ball as well. And the field goal in Jones wasn't a penalty. Steelers would have easily lost this game if these three calls were right. Ravens won this game. I've never seen so many blown calls for the same team since the chiefs game a few yrs back..makes me think the NFL is rigged now. This sport is a joke now. Can't even hit anyone anymore. It's basically flag ftball. Pass interference has become a NBA flop show as well.
The fix was in. Three plays the refs blew that helped the Steelers
Not a TD 😂 these fools are entertainment .
Boo hoo Jesse James caught the ball week 17 against the Patriots 2016 nobody gave af so everyone stfu
Forget this damn likely play. The bullshit roughing the long snapper changed the whole game. 4 points is huge!!
Watch Chad Ochocinco explain why it wasn't a TD. I'd believe the opinion of a guy who actually PLAYED the position and knows the rules than hearing Damien Woody whine and complain about this.
Porter Jr. Made a great play, except it.
HERE WE GO!!!!!
STEELERS NATION CLEVELAND!!!!!
i dont understand, a player can reach over the goal line and drop the ball and thats a TD! but the player catches the ball takes 2 steps and then it gets knockout!! rules need to be changed! the nfl makes too many acceptions to their own rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny seeing the bills play in the snow.
I don't care about that call because TJ WATT is being Held every Play of Every Game this Year! This has been happening the Last 3 years since he won the MVP and Broke the sack Record that was taking away from him when he sacked LJ8 and they claim he was running. Start Calling Holding on TJ WATT!!!!!
I’m a lifelong Steelers fan but that was a TD & we got gifted this game
Look at the film asshole
Dan O sure knows how to make a football in the end zone ….. running out the back of the end zone
Get real! Get help!
