*NEWS* Red Sox Report Reveals HUGE TRADE Update!! Plus Free Agent News!!

Day two of winter meetings for the socks at least felt like it was all about the trade market. What is going on everybody? Welcome back to Red Sea Radio. My name is Corbin and thank you very much for clicking on this video. Just a heads up, we are going to be live for the final night of the winter meetings tonight, 700 p.m. Eastern time right here on this channel. Now, last year when we went live about these winter meetings, we had Garrick Crochet to talk about. The hope is that this year we also have another big move by the Boston Red Sox to talk about because so far outside of Kyle Schwarber going back to the Phillies and Edwin Diaz heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers, it’s been a pretty quiet winter meeting so far. Not just for the Red Sox, but for most teams in Major League Baseball here. Now, if you’re a big fan of rumors and reports and looking at so many different distinct possibilities for the Red Sox, yesterday was the day for you because we got some incredible new reports about where the Red Sox heads may be at, especially when we’re talking about the trade market because last night we got a report from Tim Healey of the Boston Globe that outlined four specific players the Boston Red Sox have been checking in on. Now, there are varying degrees as to what the situation could look like for these guys, but all four of these names could be impact players with the Boston Red Sox. And I don’t think it’s just sort of educated guess as to who the Red Sox are talking to. I think this is a legitimate report because we do have evidence for a couple of these guys outside of this report. And we did hear yesterday that the Red Sox were talking to four players, right? Plus, we did also get some pretty interesting free agent updates. So, we’re going to talk about those as well. But, let’s start with these trade conversations. So, I think the best place to start with these trade conversations is with the guys we already know of. The obvious one is Catel Marte. And this is obviously, I think, the biggest name on this list in terms of potential impact on the Red Sox. Well, maybe the biggest name. I guess it kind of depends on how you look at it. We’ve actually talked about Catel Marte a ton over this last week for the Boston Red Sox, right? His name and the Red Sox have being brought up basically everywhere. Now, yesterday was interesting because when we talked about these reports, we knew that it had gotten to the point of the Red Sox exchanging names with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but there was reportedly not a ton of momentum, right? There was maybe a little bit of preliminary talks, but nothing really outside of that. Well, in the last 24 hours, things have definitely shifted a little bit. We’re starting to get reports that there is now a 50/50 chance that Catel Marte ends up getting dealt here in the winter meetings and that there have been teams that have been informed they just don’t have the capabilities of trading for him. The Red Sox are not one of those teams. In fact, the Red Sox may actually be the best positioned team right now to make a move like this specifically because the Arizona Diamondbacks are looking for starting pitching. And we know that the Red Sox have been open already this off seasonason to trading some of their major league starting pitching depth, right? Craig Brelo, and we talked about this yesterday, even said yesterday, just point blank that they are willing to trade from their starting pitching depth. This makes all of a sudden a really interesting conversation because now the stars are aligning a little bit on this one. Just a little bit, right? I’m not saying that there’s a ton of smoke to this, but things are starting to get a little bit interesting. The other sort of bigger development in this whole Catel Marte saga is that Jared Kurabus is starting to tease things a little bit with tweets and threads like this one here. Now, Kurabus doesn’t necessarily report things. He just kind of teases them, right? It’s sort of like a, “Hey, man. I’m not going to report this because I’m not a reporter, but I know what’s going on, so I’m just going to give you guys a hint as to what’s going on as well.” And as much as that’s a little bit frustrating, there’s there’s absolutely no denying that Jared Kurabas is plugged into what this team is doing. So when he starts talking on Twitter or threads or whatever, it’s always smart to start paying attention a little bit. It literally felt like over the course of the last 24 hours, it went from, you know, Catel Marte the sort of fan fantasy to Catel Marte. There’s legitimate smoke here in terms of whether or not the Red Sox are going for this guy. We know that there’s legitimate communications going on between the Red Sox and Catel Marte. It feels like right now, you know, there’s there’s not really a ton of different reporting as to what the actual packages being exchanged back and forth are. There have been some sources here and there, not super reliable ones, who have said that it may come down to whether or not the Red Sox are willing to include a Payton Tolley or a Connley Early to get Marte onto the Boston Red Sox. But if that’s where you’re at, that’s a pretty good place, right? Things change incredibly quickly. And I think that’s evident right here in the difference between the feeling of Catel Marte on day one of the winter meetings and the feeling of Catel Marte on day two of the winter meetings coming into day three here. Now, the other name that was included on this list that we already know about was Isach Paredes. And this is a guy I’m not incredibly interested in to be honest with you, right? I I kind of like the name and we talked about the fit a little bit in yesterday’s video, so I’m not going to dive super deep into that uh too much. But the one thing that we did talk about yesterday that I want to reiterate as to why I’m not like, “Yeah, this feels like a good fit for the Boston Red Sox is because the Astros immediately asked for Pton or Connley Early, who which by the way may be the two most coveted available names on the market in terms of potential prospects this offseason. I mean I mean literally every single time we’ve talked about a potential trade partner for the Boston Red Sox, one of those two names has come up in trade talks, right? It doesn’t feel like the Red Sox are incredibly super open to the idea of moving one of these guys, especially not for a name like Isach Paredes. Like this feels like a guy that you could just replace with an Aeno Suarez and get fairly similar results, right? If you’re going to go after a supplemental bat like praises because he’s not the superstar, you know, the addition that changes the Red Sox lineup all that much, that is absolutely not a guy you want to include early or in. So again, I’m not crazy in on this Each Paredes rumor. Now, however, one of these names that was listed I am absolutely in and would absolutely consider either Ptony or Connley Early being moved for and that was the name Cory Seager who came up in these talks. Now, this feels like a little bit of a dream, doesn’t it? This dude would be unbelievable. I know there’s some health issues going on there for sure, but let’s just take a look at his last three seasons. That is genuine superstar type player, right? That is a guy who could potentially be the actual face of the Boston Red Sox. I mean, obviously you got Crochet and Roman Anthony, but Cory Seager is unbelievably electric, man. He’s got really solid defense at shortstop, potentially second base depending on where you end up putting him for the Red Sox. He’s a power bat, definitely a lot of home run potential there. He’s a contact bat, super low strikeout guy. He only played 102 games this year and had more war, at least baseball reference war, than any position player on the Boston Red Sox. I mean, you when I say this guy is an absolute superstar, he’s an absolute superstar. The contract is a little bit iffy. the health is a little bit iffy, but if you’re going to take a risk this off season and go for what’s a guy who could totally transform this lineup, Cory Seager is absolutely that guy. Now, Rob Bradford, like he did with Catel Marte 24 hours ago, did say that there wasn’t really any momentum to the Boston Red Sox and Cory Seager. I can understand that, right? I’d imagine the Texas Rangers really aren’t in a crazy position, especially after trading Marcus Simeon. to want to move Cory Seager would have to be sort of this blow away offer. But like with Catel Marte, things change incredibly quickly. What if that happens today with Cory Seager? In my opinion, this is a name to just sort of keep in the back of your head. The last name mentioned in this Tim Healey report that a lot of people have latched on to isn’t incredibly a flashy name, but could be a really solid addition to this Red Sox team, and that is Brendan Donovan, a 28-year-old second baseman from the St. Louis Cardinals. because I imagine there’s some people out there who’ve never even heard of Brendan Donovan. This is a guy who’s really solid defensively over there at second base and honestly just a super consistent bat at the major league level. Constantly in that 280 average range, constantly with an on base percentage over 350. Not really a ton of power in his game, but he always does have a 750 plus OPS. He isn’t going to be that superstar talent we’re looking for, but he’s a really solid contact guy that could sort of sit at the top of a lineup for you, right? He could be an elite off hitter for the foreseeable future for the Boston Red Sox here. Including him in this list is one it’s sort of like here’s these guys, here’s Parades and then here’s Brandon Donovan. It’s like Cory Seager and Catel Marte are in their own category. Then there’s Brandon Donovan and then there’s Each Paredes. But to me, Brandon Donovan feels more like a a true complimentary idea if the Red Sox don’t want to spend on another bat, right? He feels more like a backup plan than he does a a main course for the Boston Red Sox. Like if if you’re going to get Brendan Donovan, it’s probably going to be something like you get Pete Alonzo. Maybe you sit there and you say we don’t want to spend on Alex Bregman and Catel Marte costs too much. Well, let’s pivot to Brendan Donovan. And adding Brennan Donovan with Pete Alonzo kind of does do a lot for your lineup. Adding Brendan Donovan solo. I I just don’t see the real true uh impact that would have outside of just simply adding a solid everyday player to your lineup. So, those are the four names included on Tim Healey’s list. And this was the biggest news to come out of yesterday. I think specifically the biggest news being the whole saga we could tell Marte starting to pick up SE steam here is the biggest news coming out of day two of the winter meetings but we did also get some interesting conversations about where the Red Sox could be at on the free agent market as well. As for the free agent news, there was a lot of it and kind of none of it at the exact same time. The vibe has shifted on Bo Bashette. It is right now being reported that unless his market changes a bit, the Red Sox don’t appear to be in on him right now. Yeah, I guess that makes some sense to me, right? I still think Bob Bashette is an unbelievable bat, maybe one of the better bats available on the market, but he’s also going to have the highest price tag, right? If the Red Sox are looking to add multiple players to their roster this year, and with this sort of cap that the Red Sox have put on themselves, they’re going to have to get really creative with how they go about getting these guys. and adding a super long-term deal worth more money than probably Alonzo Bregman or even Marte would be included in here, I just don’t think is going to be a number one priority for the Boston Red Sox. It’s an unfortunate reality. We did hear some new news about a new target for the Red Sox. That’s Aoheno Suarez. Alex Spear is reporting that the Socks have had conversations with him this off season and that he thinks he believes the Red Sox find him as sort of a fallback option for either third or first base defending depending on how the offseason goes. To me, I I really hope the Red Sox don’t get to a point where they’re like, “All right, fine. I guess we’ll take a Heno Suarez, right?” I I just sit here with this and it’s like there has to be someone else out there. I I don’t love the bat profile. I don’t love that he’s basically a two true outcome guy. He doesn’t take a ton of walks. He’s either a home run or a strikeout. I don’t love the fact that he’s older than everybody else. I really don’t love the fact that he’s never really played first base. The Red Sox are considering him for first base. Right. Just just if we can avoid fallback options at all costs, that would be absolutely fantastic. We did find out that the Red Sox did not make an offer to Kyle Schwarber. I think a lot of people are going to be super pissed about this. I think there’s going to be a lot of cheap socks talk. I don’t really feel that way, right? I I always thought that Kyle Schwarber wasn’t exactly a perfect fit with this Red Sox team, right? He would have been a great bat to add, but the fit itself not exactly fantastic. And I I just didn’t see the Red Sox going to 5 years $150 million to get this guy, right? If he was in the three or four year range, maybe it’s a little bit of a different conversation. But even if they had matched the 5 years, $150 million that the Phillies ended up signing him for, I don’t think he goes to the Red Sox. I think he stays with the Phillies. So, you would have had to beaten that. And at that point, that’s just way too much money to spend on Kyle Schwarber. So, I can understand why they didn’t go out and get this guy. I think their priority has always been Bregman and Alonzo. So, we’ll see what ends up happening there. And speaking of Pete Alonzo, we did find out that the Red Sox did at least try and meet with Pete Alonzo yesterday. It wasn’t so much that Pete didn’t want to meet with them. It was that apparently the Red Sox have a bit of a flu problem going on. I guess a lot of the top Red Sox guys right now are sick and having a hard time meeting people in person. This would be the most typical Red Sox thing in the world, wouldn’t it? The Red Sox not landing Pete Alonzo because they didn’t get an inerson meeting because they were sick. Feels like the most like 2020 Red Sox thing of all time. So, I really hope that isn’t the case. But that is the update with Pete Alonzo with Bregman. He’s meeting with the Cubs. The Cubs are, you know, there’s varying reports as to how much they like Alex Bregman. The Tigers appear to be really tepid in their pursuit of Alex Bregman. Not really a ton of updates there, just simply that the Red Sox are still considered the number one priority for Alex Bregman. Look, I know right now there’s a whole bunch of rumors and I know a lot of people don’t love rumors, right? They just want answers. And the fortunate part of the MLB offseason is that 99% of it is rumors, right? Because there’s no salary cap, because there’s no real period that ends this free agency. It’s not like free agency or the trade market closes at the end of today. There’s going to be a ton of these, right? It’s smart for to see the Red Sox putting their hands in every single bucket imaginable because there is an unlimited amount of options here. What we’re hoping for is some sort of concrete, hey, this is the plan the Red Sox have, right? And unfortunately, it just takes time for that to develop. There’s a real reality here that we get to the end of winter meetings tomorrow and the Boston Red Sox have done absolutely nothing. But the interesting thing is that there’s probably going to be 26, 27 other teams that don’t do anything either, right? And that’s just sort of how the MLB off season goes. Right now, what we’re seeing is the Red Sox laying the groundwork for moves that they do want to make, right? Most of this is going to be smoke and mirrors. Some of it is going to be legitimate opportunities that the Red Sox are going to take advantage of. And I think the biggest thing to take out of these reports and rumors right now is that one thing’s super clear, and that is that the Red Sox are going to get themselves a topline bat, right? They’re connected to way too many of these guys at this point to miss out on every single one of them. who that ends up being is going to be the interesting question and going to be the question that they need to answer. In my opinion, it’s actually probably going to be multiples of these impact bats. I don’t know how it’s going to work. I don’t know how the financials are going to end up playing out, but it feels like the Red Sox are connected to too many of these guys to just land one of them. So, we’re going to see over these next, I would say, couple of days here as to whether or not anything comes this Catel Marte stuff. It sounds like Pete Alonzo is going to take a fairly decently long time to figure out. So, I don’t think he gets done by the end of winter meetings. Maybe they go Bregman and Catel Marte and that’s sort of their off seasonason in terms of their offense here. And we’ll kind of see what that ends up looking like. But until then, let me know what you guys think. What do you think of all these reports and rumors? Is there anything that stands out to you more than the others? 1. There might be a list but that’s all crap until they actually grow a set and decide whether or not they want to win again! We’re always the interest kings and turn into the dollar general coupon kings when it’s all said and done! Proof is in pudding and fans are tied of the same ole crap…. Until ink is on paper… the rumor mill sucks, no offense Corbin!

  2. I could see adding Donovan only if we sign Alonzo. I am holding out for a trade for say a Greene or Ryan. But I understand the Sox are probably not going to extend themselves that far

  3. If we could somehow move yoshida and hicks, which they would have to pay some of yoshidas money at 18 mil, say we can we pay 10 mil of it and save 20 mil total for each of these players, that puts us at about 80 million before the tax threshold. They could fit Alonzo and bregman and still make abother deal for a couple pitchers. We are probably going to need another bullpen arm because we don't know if chapman will have another year like he had and maybe they reshape the starting pitching by dealing a Tolle and another guy with Duran or abreau. My concern is breslow orchestrating the deals.

  4. I feel like those trade speculations were either to stir things up or make other people move (Marte, Bregman and Alonso) rather than actual trades that we actually are trying to get done.
There was ZERO chance Schwarber was leaving Philly (as I've said from the beginning) so idc that they didn't offer him.

  5. I agree with you red seat that the sox for sure will get a power bat. What I'm worried about is that the other team will waver. And breslow will cave and give them early or tolle. Remember. Breslow Likes to keep his word. And has told every media outlet he Will get a power bat

  6. Sox were smart on Schwarber, he wanted to go back to Phily the whole time and the Sox knew it too. Why make an offer that he would reject unless it was for way too much. In terms of all the other players and news, again if you are hearing interest on a player or they are closely tied to a player it will more than likely not happen. The only one I believe will is Bregman. For some reason his market is shrinking again and I think he will not get what he thought he would again this year so he will end up back with the Sox, and that is good. I think they will end up signing Okamoto too, which would be the inexpensive bat and a sound player to play both first and third, this would allow a nice rotation with Casas and Bregman and some time off so no one gets hurt. Hearing more on Ketel I think it would not be a good idea, even Lou Merloni who played said overall it would not be good, he has 5 years and an option for a 6th year and the contract would be over $150 Million with a lot of deferred money, all at the age of 32, it will end up becoming a bad contract and getting rid of him will cost you more. All that and Arizona is insisting on either Tolle or Early along with others. Not worth it. I also heard several reports that there are 3 or more other teams that have more interest in him than the Sox and I don't think Arizona will come down from their request with the Sox. Winter Meetings can be fun if you like to hear the rumors but turn very disappointing if nothing happens like with this year. Still I really enjoy listening to your reports and takes, keep up the great job, maybe we can get you a full time job with the Sox one day

  7. I'd like for them to sign 1B Alonso and Bregman, but if Bregman is too expensive. 3B Suarez would be cheaper with a shorter contract option. If they MUST trade Duran, then let it be for someone like Noah Tong, an up-and-comer that is just as talented as Tolle and Early. Throw in Perales to make the deal sweeter for the Mets. I'd like Casas to split 1B/3B at Worcester until his game returns. 2B should be reserved for Mayer and/or Campbell, who has more upside and versatility than Refsnyder.

  8. I would’ve loved to see Schwarber in Boston but really the Phillies felt like the best place for him and somewhere he feels like he can finish his career there.

  9. I really don't have any new comment. Although the rumors are interesting we really have no idea what is going to happen. Having said that I do think something will happen today but have no idea what that is 🤞⚾

  10. Definitely wouldn't be trading either Payton or Early. We need them for the future and who knows which starter or reliever is going to go down this year (hopefully none). Thinking Pete Alonzo is going to end up here. Casas could be a trade candidate for any other trades, since 1st base would be filled. Bregman re-signing too, would be that 3rd base filling and then move Storey to 2nd and Mayer could play SS. Maybe Campbell can be sent somewhere to clear that contract.

  11. I really hope the sox keep Connelly Early. He looks to me like he has some really great stuff. Much more advanced with command of multiple pitches . I can see why teams are asking for him but I don't think Boston should bite on that one. Boston has come a long long way on attaining and developing young pitching. If they keep Early I think they are going to find out that he turns out to be at least a solid # 3 in that starting rotation . Other teams agree with me. Thats exactly why they are asking for him to be included in these trades. They even took Witherspoon number one this year which is huge. I am hoping that Bregman returns. Would love to see him in that line up with Roman. I would not mind seeing the polar bear smashing homers out of fenway either. Like button blasted Corbin. These winter meetings keep it interesting. Joe

  12. Ketel Marte would be a huge move for the Red Sox. He is a great player. I watched him for years when I was living in Arizona and he is definitely a difference maker.
Unless the D’backs are asking for something ridiculous please make the trade!

  13. Corbin, I would rather have nobody than Suarez.

Anybody concerned about Bregmans age, durability, length and size of contract that he wants? I like him, but I wonder if he's going downhill. Besides the clubhouse, could someone do what he does in games?

  14. I wouldn’t get to excited for Alonso. After the Mets lost Diaz I think ownership would drastically overpay for Alonso. Mets fans will go ballistic if they lose Diaz and Alonzo.

  15. The Red Sox currently ranked 22nd out of all MLB teams in payroll as a percentage of revenue. If that is comparable to where they rank at the beginning of the season I'm really going to roll my eyes at fans telling me that this is not austerity and is actually just a long-term strategy to maintain the farm.

The farm has been pretty desecrated anyways with the recent moves because they're so shy about salary. You'll be interesting to see where the rankings are now that they've got rid of the password and sent a couple prospects in this ridiculous sunny gray deal in order to save 10 or 15 million extra dollars
