1. I really like Derek Shelton, I want him to be successful. He’s well spoken, gives the old school “baseball guy” vibes. That said, his track record is uninspiring, to say the least.

   Could be a lot worse, but he’s just so uninspiring.

2. We’ll take above average regular at this point and be ecstatic about it.

3. Well, yeah, but has anyone told Royce this?

4. He turns 27 next season, but people still talk about him like he’s a rookie.

   I’d love to be wrong, but I just don’t think the breakout is going to happen. He’s young but not THAT young.

   And guys with his injury history very rarely just suddenly become reliably healthy as they get older.

5. I like Derek. But it feels like he was brought in because he wont rock the boat and is good at losing after so many years with the Pirates.

6. Royce absolutely has the tools to be great but has not been able to keep his violent swing mechanics or sprint all out of the bases because of nagging injuries. He’s had the right attitude and mindset but I worry that is going to be harder to maintain if he sustains more long term injuries. Buxton has always had the tools too but baseball requires players to be healthy to be good and that’s why he was able to have such a good year last year.

7. All it takes to get a guy to be great is seeing him in person—checkmate, American League.

   Shelton isn’t there to win, he’s there to lose with a smile.

8. This is the prove it year for Royce. If he doesnt show out i can see him being moved. Crowded infield prospects and he’ll be getting arbitration money.

   He has a clean slate. He has to make it work

9. This type of stuff gets posted this offseason and it’s just another thing for people to ragepost about. And we certainly have plenty to be upset about. But again, what do you want him to say? “Royce? Oh yeah he’s cooked lol”

10. I was kind of over Royce when he didn’t want to tweak his swing because it would mess up his stats for arbitration
