Ringer wrote an article today about QB’s like Mahomes, JD5, Baker etc. having down years. Snippet from our section: “Jayden Daniels is breaking himself”

  1. Our team is broken this year:

    * No RB1 (Bill did his best, but he’s not been capable of leading the way all season)

    * No WR1 or WR2 for portions of the season. Even WR3 went down injured.

    * Without a running game, we have to throw. Without our best receivers, we’re easy to mark and teams can blitz/rush JD5 more frequently.

    * Our defense is woeful. We’re often behind, which also means teams know we have to throw more often, which means we’re predictable / easier to defend against.

Etc, etc. JD5 has also not been great, but my *god* have things been stacked against him.

  2. I mean, he isn’t doing himself favors not sliding and taking hits, but we drafted him for his dual threat capability. I agree we want him in the pocket making throws, but we can’t take his legs away from him.

Really the issue is the FO pushing him to play. I agree it’s good reps for his development, but I think they need to be the voice of reason, sit him down and say “we want you to be our QB 5 years from now, which means we can’t play you half injured in these meaningless games”

  3. That’s a thirsty-ass headline. 3% increase is nothing and is worthless without mentioning his pressure rate

  4. Dan Quinn left him in there in a blowout game where he got injured then Dan Quinn put him back in the lineup a few weeks later when he was still injured and he reinjured his arm. I blame Dan, Dan is breaking him

  5. IMO this is a season that JD5 needs to completely forget about ASAP.

Get healthy, add at least 15lbs of muscle to his frame, and generally live in the VR setup

  6. Steven Ruiz is the biggest Jayden Daniels and Commanders hater at the Ringer.

He’s also a terrible QB evaluator in general. The Ringer has some great voices but he isn’t one of them.

  7. If you’re not available, don’t matter how good you are. JD has to learn to protect himself. This year was going to be tough no matter what because of the schedule that comes with going to the NFC championship game. But him not being on the field set his development back a year and took a toll on team morale.

  8. While not a promising statement we need to remember he’s been behind early in a lot of games, often without weapons, with a coordinator that refuses to protect him and an offense that’s designed to spread the field, not focus on heavy protection.

that said, if the offense is built on his quick decision making to get rid of the ball and teams are showing pressure, or not showing pressure, and still confusing JD to not be able to find the quick read and he takes off running instead then that could be leading to him running more because teams have found a weakness of his. If that’s the case hes gonna need to find a way to work through that.

  9. He’s playing with replacement receivers signed off the street. Receivers who run the wrong routes and cannot get any separation. Not to mention the pressure rate he’s experiencing. Of course his scramble rate will be higher this year.

  10. I’m cool with him scrambling as a last resort. I just think a lot of times he prefers to scramble instead of giving our receivers a shot.

  11. He really needs to focus on keeping his head looking down the field for a throw. Watch the greats and they do this very well.

  12. 3 percent? That’s meaningless. That’s well within the range of any variable from having different games than last year
