Justin Herbert On Chiefs & Injury Update | LA Chargers

Yes. And uh how did you uh come out of the game with your hands? Uh yeah, it was it was pretty sore yesterday, but I think for the most part uh got images done, X-rays, and everything was clean for the most part. It’s just, you know, getting the swelling down and continuing to um get full strength in it and and continuing to do as much treatment as I can. Uh X-rays after, correct? Yeah, right after the game. Just just precautionary. Yeah, just took a couple hits and um you know, I think the doctors were just making sure like they’re doing everything they can to take a look and just be as safe as possible. Was it like considerably more swollen like after the game as compared to like after surgery? It was about the same. Was it not as bad from a swollen standpoint? Um I think compared to the days after surgery, I think it’s a lot better now. Um I think it was just sore. Um, I think having played on it and um use using it and and kind of fallen on it too, I think that kind of helped and uh you know was some of the reasons why it was sore. But uh I think for the most part it’s it’s gotten a lot better. I feel like my my grip strength has gotten better and um just being able to use it has gotten better too. Second guess the stiff um yeah maybe after it if it wasn’t very effective. Um but uh no in the moment I I I think that was the best thing that uh I I could have done for the team and um you know getting that first down and doing everything I can to be able to get around that edge and and you know there’s a world where it it it is effective and maybe I’m staying on my feet and and getting more yards. So um you know I’m I’m glad everything went well and um I’m feeling better because of it. At what point last week did you did you like feel fully comfortable doing under center stuff and taking taking snaps? Uh that’s a good question. I I didn’t take any until um I believe it was Sunday, maybe Saturday or Sunday. Um I I held off for as long as I could. Um I knew that, you know, Bose and I have taken so many snaps together that um if it was a Saturday or Sunday type deal, then you know, I don’t think we’d be missing too many valuable reps. Um especially if I got those in the walkthrough, but just making sure that um you know, Sunday especially got out there, felt a couple, and um it was a little sore, but you know, there’s nothing adrenaline on the game day that uh it it can’t fix. just uh what did you take away from from watching the u film back on the game offensively? Jim s mentioned that you okay if it wasn’t perfect but you guys did enough obviously get the win. Yeah. Um I thought it was really tough. I thought it was a really tough day for the offense, especially um you know, for me. I I had two turnovers and you know, missed a lot of throws and and played uncharacteristically and um you know, there’s a bunch of plays that I’d love to have back, a few balls that I missed outside. um you know and I and I think uh those are those are going to happen and it’s unfortunate that uh you know we didn’t play to the expectations that we we hold for ourselves but um you know I thought we did a great job battling all all four quarters in overtime because it it looked pretty grim there for a while but for us to keep battling and and you know go get the special teams out on the field and go get some points um you know it’s it’s obviously not what we we want but uh to get the win and the defense the way they played in special teams um you know it was what was best for for us. How much does winning like that when you describe like how the offense play give you confidence as you guys go to the end of the season? Yeah. Um I think it’s huge because you want to be playing, you know, memorable football in December and January in meaningful games and um those are the type of games that you you need to win, you know, against opponents that we have a ton of respect for and and are are very good. Um so for us to be able to kind of battle one out like that um you know, I think helps everyone in the locker room. it gives everyone confidence and you know I think going through games like that um it’s only going to help you in the long run. Um did they play like less man um particularly on third downs than you guys were expecting heading into that game? Yeah. Uh they they generally played quite a bit of man on on third downs. Um but I I think they did a really good job of kind of switching up their looks. I think they played a lot of shell, a lot of cloud. Um and so they did a good job switching it up. Um and you know that that kind of held us down a little bit. I I’m not quite sure what our exact numbers were on third down. I think we were decent. Um definitely could have been better. Um you know, there are a few plays that I’d love to have back. I missed Lad on one. Um and I think Keenan on another. Um and a few more, but uh you know, I think it’s another thing that when we’re good on third down, we’re we’re generally playing pretty well. Um and so we we could definitely have done a lot of better things. Future under 500, not a place they’ve been in a while. Uh what kind of atmosphere do you expect going into Arrowhead? Uh still as loud as we’ve ever expected. You know, they’re still a very very good football team and we have a ton of respect for them and you know they’re much better than their record indicates as well. Um you know they played a lot of tough games, a lot of close games and you know that’s the NFL and that’s you know the unfortunate part is you know you’re not going in there and and uh going to dominate any any team just willy-nilly. Um but uh you know they’re very good and and we have to be on our stuff this year and this this week and watching film having good practices and basically the things that uh we do out through each each week. What was it like to have uh Marian back? It was awesome. You know he brings so much juice to our team and especially our offense just having him out of the back field whether he’s running or catching um you know especially in pass protection too. He’s he’s always done such a great job. So um you know just to have him back healthy moving around uh you know he gives us a lot of hope. Bobby a few times this season. What did you see from Bobby stepping in helping the game progress? Yeah, I think we’re really lucky to have Bobby. Um, you know, a guy that uh is able to play guard, play tackle, and um has stepped in a few times when guys have gone down and um you know, you can never have enough guys like that, especially on the offensive line with just how many injuries that um happen to an offensive lineman each year. Um Bob’s a great teammate guy, great locker room guy and um you know it’s it’s really fun to play behind him. Just the some of the protection um stuff in the game, few pressures like through the A gap. Um how did you feel like you guys performed from a communication standpoint in some of those situations? Anything you can put your finger on um as far as why there were a few sort of free rushers in those situations? Yeah, there uh there were a few because uh the Eagles do a really good job of going off the center point. So if if Bose goes left, um the linebacker to the left is going to drop and the and the guy to the right is going to pressure. And so that’s one of those things where you can go off a safety rotation, you can see him go one way and then flip the protection and then the other guy’s going to blitz because he sees that uh Bose is taking the other guy. Um and so that’s the tough part about, you know, those defenses where they’re really smart. they they communicate really well and you know that’s on me to be able to kill a play where instead of because if we’re in fiveman protection and they’re bringing five guys and you have to be right for each guy um you really can’t be because you’re going to send the line one way and then they’re going to bring the guy from the other side and so that’s on me to you know get to a different play to add another protector whether that’s bringing in the tight end or bringing a running back back out or getting the ball out quick. Um it’s just one of those things where they kind of got us and you know I got to do a better job of changing the play. So, it’s almost like a like an option blitz where depending on which way the line slides, the linebackers are reading it and either one of them was dropping out, one was blitzing, and one was dropping out, one was putting based on the slot. Yeah. Exactly. So, they’re going to see which way the center goes. And generally, that’s the, you know, the the threeman sort side. And so, if if the center and the right guard and right tackle go right, then the linebacker to our left, he’ll he’ll pressure because we only have two guys to block those two over there. the the one in the first quarter where Kamani motioned and you guys ended up in empty and then uh 17 ended up coming through the I can’t remember which was like a minute and 26 left. I think that might have been the one because uh I think I was going off a safety rotation and the the safeties rotated to the side. I believe Kamani went to and so I think I might have flipped the protection and then um it’s just tough. We we have five guys to block and and you had to be right and I was wrong and um you know that’s the unfortunate part and and uh you know it’s something that you got to watch the film and say you know what we could have done a better job here. Are you the only team to do that? how many defensive we play around pull that off. I think there’s a few. I think uh you know I I don’t know the exact number but uh we’ve definitely seen it before and you know I think it’s something that our our defense does as well. Um but it’s just it’s a it’s a tough thing to teach and um you know when a team’s able to do it really well uh it’s it’s really tough on offense and so I I think uh it’s good for us to see because you know if if we’re going to keep playing meaningful football we’re going to see it more and more. Um, so I I think it’s definitely something good to see with the as far as reading the field like pure progressionaries versus um, you know, making your decisions based on coverage rotations. How much of do do you do of of those two? Are you more one or the other in in this offense? And do you have a preference as far as um, you know, how to read the field progression versus coverage? Yeah. U, I think we definitely have quite a bit of both. Um, I think it kind of just depends on uh what defense you’re playing because sometimes defenses do a really good job of disguising it and you don’t really know what the coverage is going to be. And so a pure progression play is much better versus that where you’re able to just go right through your reads and find the check down and versus a team where if you know exactly what coverage they’re playing then it’s easier to say all right if you get this coverage play this side of the field or play this side of the field. Um so I think it’s good that we have both and and being able to run both. Um but I think it’s definitely up to what what defense you’re playing. Do you have a personal preference as far as what you like better or you just like whatever works based on what the defense is doing? Yeah. Um there’s, you know, pros for both. Um I think pure progressions are um much simpler in the fact that you always generally have a check down, a guy that you can get the ball, get rid of the ball to if you know pressure gets through. Um and just being able to go through a read of um you know timing with receivers where you see one guy second, third, fourth and then find the checkdown versus where if you play you know half field uh you got to be right because you generally have you know two guys on on one side and if if those guys aren’t open you got to find a checkdown. So you just have more options with the pure progression I think. Has which style you’re more comfortable with changed as you’ve gotten more comfortable playing the position because so much you have to control for offset? Um no I don’t think so. I I think it’s just one of those things that uh you know I think every team has a lot of pure progressions versus a lot of you know half field plays. Um and it’s just kind of what you’re comfortable with, what the offensive coordinator is comfortable with. And um you know I think the more you can rep both I think and if the more you can have both in, the better your offense is going to be. And um you know I think it’s just something you got to keep practicing and keep seeing throughout the

  1. Wolfe's Law says, "Bone remodels according to stress". Hopefully that is the case here. Will having the bone banged around stimulate primal healing? Or does each painful hit reset the 6-week healing time? Ortho surgeons should weigh in on this. The bone is fixed in place with hardware but still needs ample healing time.

  2. You can tell he saw some of the comments on social media about his interview with laura rutledge with how open he’s being this press conference, haven’t seen him go into this much detail before. But we love you either way goat keep being you ⚡️ Best QB in the league
