[Tim Healey] The Mets have internally discussed a solution at first base in the event that Alonso walked – a platoon of Jeff McNeil and current free agent first baseman Paul Goldschmidt; McNeil would earn starts against right-handed pitching, while Goldschmidt would hit against southpaws.

  1. Tim Healey barely had any sources when he actually reported on the Mets let alone now that he doesn’t anymore

  2. Being as fair as possible, if they can get Goldy, the dude did absolutely smack against lefties last year

    .336/.411/.570 (.981 OPS), 167 tOPS+

  3. Goldschmidt destroyed lefties last season to the tune of .336/.411/.570 with a .981 OPS. So that aspect of it isn’t so foolish. Of course there’s the somewhat awkward fact that they haven’t even signed him yet.

  4. Gotta love the money ball philosophy from one of the richest owners.  Be crazy if it works.

  5. I don’t believe this for a second.

Before all this stuff happened I thought McNeil was off this team.

  6. So their contingency plan involves someone who doesn’t currently play for them? Probably shouldn’t have let this leak.

  7. No love for Vientos? I realize that he’s far from a proven commodity, but you could do worse than giving him 450 at-bats to see if he’s the solution there.

  8. Well that’s a bit of a downgrade.   I was happy the Yankees signed Goldschmidt for 2025, but the man had the most anonymous season I’ve ever seen.   I do t remember the guy having a big game at any point in 2025.

  9. I have to watch McNeil play in this uniform for ANOTHER year but I don’t get to see Pete do it anymore.

Madness. I despise watching that man play.

  10. I hear there is a guy in Houston that’s available. For like nothing at all. I mean a pack of big league chew is all it would take

  11. I can’t even differentiate between rage bait and actual Mets front office planning anymore

  12. you mean in the event they dont even bother to offer the guy a contract. fuck stearns, this was ridiculous
