Everything just fell PERFECTLY into Place…

Everything just fell perfectly into place for the Houston Rockets as while Giannis Antakmpo rumors are flying around, there is a new one that doesn’t exactly have the Rockets landing Giannis, but they are involved in an interesting way. We’ve got a whole new setup, a lot of cool new stats, and uh it’s going to be our first take at it. So, uh give me a little bit of leeway. Might be some slow graphics, but we’re going to get some stuff going. It’s going to be a lot better than what we had in the past. So, uh, check it out. Let’s start talking about Giannis Antakmpa, why don’t we? Because he is very much the talk of the town thus far for really the entire NBA. As we look at a bunch of different things with Giannis, we know that he’s likely to be traded. It seems like he had made an agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason saying, “If we are a competitive team, I want to be a Milwaukee.” Guess what? They’re not a competitive team at all. really at all. And so the rumor mill started going talking about Giannis being potentially moved. And well, the Rockets were one team that came up. Now, as much as I want to sit here and say that the Rockets have a legitimate shot at Giannis, which I kind of think they do, I don’t know that it’s something that they want to do. I don’t know that it is something that they are fing at the bit to go out there and trade for Giannis Antompa when the team they have is really, really good. And especially with already having Kevin Durant, Giannis would just cost a lot for something that maybe isn’t getting as much in return as you think it would. However, it does seem like he will be traded to the New York Knicks, at least if he gets traded at all. And so with that being said, you might have seen it, but the Bleacher Report people, they put out a new article talking about three different trade packages for the New York Knicks that they could make to acquire Buckstar Giannis Antmpo. Now, how are the Rockets involved in this is probably what you’re asking. Well, it’s a three-team trade in this. And for the Houston Rockets, they’ve been in a bit of an interesting position with their point guard, obviously having Fred Van Vet, Fred Van Vleet get injured at the beginning of the season. And so, you see on your screen now, here is the three team trade that Andy Bailey kind of put out there and proposed. In this trade, the Bucks would receive Fred Van Vleet, Josh Hart, Reed Shepard, a 2028 first round pick from Houston, a 2030 first round pick from Houston, and four second round picks from the New York Knicks. Now, in return, the Knicks would receive Giannis Antarmpo, and the Houston Rockets would receive point guard Jaylen Brunson. I like this trade and I also don’t like this trade. And I’m going to go through kind of both bits here. The first reason is at least likingwise, Jaylen Brunson is a very, very good point guard and I really do believe that he is somebody that could help out this Houston Rockets team in a very special way. Now, does this mean that I think that Jaylen Brunson is going to come in with the Rockets and make them as good as the Oklahoma City Thunder and be able to beat them every single time? No. And so that’s where the devil’s advocate has to come in here as we go back to this three team trade and say that as much as I do like it in my opinion and maybe yours as well. The Knicks are giving up way less and receiving a better player in Giannis. The Rockets giving up Fred Van Vleet which I love him. I know he’s injured but they are giving up Fred Van Vleet. Reed Shepard who is in my opinion a rising star. Two first round picks and then the Knicks are giving up Josh Hart and four second round picks. Now, the reason behind that is because, well, the Rockets don’t have any more second round picks. They gave them all away in the trade for uh Kevin Durant. Now, does that make this deal worth it then? If they could maybe take those off or um work with that, I don’t really know. But I do know one thing. Jaylen Brunson is a very, very good athlete and the Rockets would be in a very smart position to try and acquire him. And I know that I’ve made the point that I like our point guards and I like Reed Shepard and I feel I feel as though that this team would be beneficial to add a guy on the point guard section. I don’t know that Jaylen Brunson is worth it when you add in the fact that it is an entire deal. Now, if we first look here at Jaylen Brunson, uh you can see his points per game. He ranks top 10 in the NBA. He’s a very good assisting point guard, which is something the Rockets really are looking for. He plays a lot of minutes. His free throw percentage is pretty good as well. The turnovers, the blocks, the fouls per game, they’re not great, but at the same time, it’s not something that you’re expecting from Jaylen Brunson is probably the best way to put it. And do I love Reed Shepard? Yes. Do I feel as though that Jaylen Brunson is better than Reed Shepard? Yes. And could you put then Aman Thompson to a shooting guard position where you have a an actual primary ball handler? And I think that’s the biggest problem is that right now the Rockets don’t exactly have the primary ball handler. a 98 percentile in points, a 95 percentile in assists, a 97 percentile in minutes, and a 74 percentile in the free throws per game. He’s a very, very good athlete, and I think that the Rockets would love to have him. But at the same time, playing devil’s advocate, are they not getting a very good point guard in Reed Shepard already, 24.9 minutes per game, 13 points per game, and he has gotten better every single game. His percentiles are fantastic in terms of this being his first true year is what I’m going to call it. 80 percentile on the assists per game. Obviously with Jaylen Bruner you’re getting better, but the assists per game is something that the Rockets really do really do like to have on their point guards and steals per game 95th percentile. And his true shooting percentage is one of the best for as young as he is. He ranks in the 70th percentile. I guarantee you if you put all the players in there and rank them in terms of age below 24, he’s at the 95th percentile in true shooting percentage. Now, on top of which, Reed Shepard’s great, but you also have to think about Almond Thompson. Now, I know he’s not going into this deal, but at the same time, I think I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him in the point guard situation. Now, does he handle the ball greatest? No. He turns the ball over a decent amount. He fouls a lot, but I think he’s getting better every game. Now, the Reed Shepard I I think that Reed Shepard has taken better steps than Almond Thompson. He’s been asked to do less, but I think he’s taken better steps, whereas Almond’s been asked to do more and still is kind of reaching to that point. And so, I want to go back to this trade and kind of break it down once again. You’re giving up Vinol, you’re giving up Reed Shepard, you’re giving up two first round picks for Brunson. His contract’s there. That’s great. But I don’t know that I’m accepting this trade. So I ask you the question, is this a trade that you would accept? If you are accepting this trade that sends Brunson to Houston, then I want you to type Y for yes. If you think this is a trade you are not accepting, then I want you to type in for no. Let me know your thoughts in the comment section. Would you accept this three team trade that sends Brunson to Houston? Why for yes or in for no? Let me know your thoughts down in the comments section. Now, with all this to be said, Brunson is somebody that I do like, and in the article, it does provide some context to why this would be a smart move for the Houston Rockets. Andy Bailey says this, “Finally, the play for Houston here is pretty obvious. In the wake of Fred Van Vleet’s injury, leaning into youth and giving Shepard and Amen some more point guard reps would make sense, but also Kevin Durant is 37 years old.” He continues on to say, “If the Rockets are going to win a title with KD, it needs to happen in the next couple years. The chances probably diminish with each passing season, and Brunson gets them a lot closer to the ultimate goal in 2026.” This is all well and good and probably true, but my back point to this quote exactly is that the Houston Rockets, as much as we all want to sit here and say they are fighting to win a championship this year or they are fighting to go out there and make it to the finals this year. They’re building a dynasty in Houston. Raphael Stone has mentioned that and they want to make this team something that can last a long time and I don’t know that adding Jaylen Brunson when you’re giving up your future is worth it cuz I think Reed Shepard can be a very good point guard in this league and he’s getting better every single game and had a very slow start but then picked it up and he’s slowed down a little bit but that’s also because we’ve kind of had an intriguing schedule. I think when the Rockets get back to playing in a normal amount of games, this could very easily be something that the Rockets go out there and perform very well on. And so with all this to be said, I think if you look at the way that this team is put out right now, you’re fourth in the Western Conference. You have a 15-6 record and you’ve had some intriguing losses on backto-backs. You lost to the Mavericks. Um you lost, of course, to the Utah Jazz. and the teams ahead of you, you have a better net rating. You have a better net rating than every team ahead of you besides the Oklahoma City Defender. And that’s not just in the the the West, it’s the entire NBA. They have better net rankings than most of the teams ahead of them. Really is. And so, with all this to be said, I don’t know that this deal is worth it. However, I do think it’s an intriguing option and I wouldn’t be shocked if it is something that is floated around more slash actually executed depending on the way the rest of the season goes for Almond Thompson and Reed Shepard. We appreciate you watching. We hope you have a great rest of your day. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section on the new look graphics here on Rockets Digest. I want to hear what all y’all are thinking. But for now, guys, we appreciate you. See you next time here on the show. Peace out.

  1. "the knicks are giving up way less" the knicks aren't trading their superstar whose one of the biggest playoff risers in the league lol. you could have saved all this debate on whether you want him or not – there is no world where you get a top 6-10 player which is what brunson is

  2. N..If the rockets have to get rid of Shepherd Thompson Durant Sengun then no absolutely not,and 2 #1s lol heck no these 4 should be locked down, unfortunately Houston has a terrible track record with trades!

  3. N…Granite I haven't seen a lot of brunson's games, but looking at his numbers he looks more like a true shooting guard on paper 35 minutes 28 points and six assists,… The rockets need someone they can put up 10 to 15 points a game Ten assist with great ball handling skills and lockdown defense, Bronson's also averaging two turnovers a game! When are those turnovers happening in the first quarter or the 4th quarter?

  4. Pass. The Rockets have a great team right now. They don't need to go star hunting by trading away promising young players and draft capital. Not to mention, this trade would be so dumb for the Knicks.

  5. Bro I’m going to cancel my subscription if you report 1 more stupid trade proposal.

Yes Brunson puts Houston on OKCs level today. But these trades always involve the rockets forgetting how to negotiate and giving 1 side massive returns.

Brunson does give you a second option for go to guy for final shots and I personally think he is a better clutch shooter than Durant.

But no way you’re getting Shepard and FVF and 2 1st rounders. 1 first and FVF and a future 2nd rounder once we acquire one. If the 2 round pick isn’t paid by the end of year 5 then Houston’s next 1st rounder becomes the pick with no protection.

  6. We are about to get Eason and Finney-Smith back soon, so why would we trade. Rockets are about to be even deadlier than they have been all season. No way we are trading.
