Will the Sacramento Kings Handle a Rebuild the Right Way? | Locked On Kings

At this point, the Sacramento Kings really have no choice but to rebuild. But the question is, will they do a rebuild, right? Will they have the right kind of patience and actually see a rebuild through? And we’re largely talking about Kings ownership and VC granad when hitting on that point. Mark Haynes, who covers the Sacramento Kings for the Sacramento observer, joins me to discuss that. Plus, which players on this roster right now could we see being part of that rebuild? It’s all right here for you on Locked on Kicks. You are Locked on Kings, your daily Sacramento Kings podcast, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. And now, ladies and gentlemen, it is that time. Time for another episode of Locked On. Hello and welcome into Locked on Kings, your podcast hub for Sacramento Kings coverage all season long. This episode is brought to you by Game Time. Download the Game Time app. Create an account and use code locked on NBA for $20 off of your first purchase. My name is Matt George. I have the privilege of being your host here. I’m a Sacramento sports anchor and reporter for ABC 10 News. And like there’s just no there’s no doubt about it, right? It’s been more and more clear to us as as the the games have gone on, the the the weeks, the days of this season have gone on, this Kings team is a disaster. A tear down and true rebuild needs to happen. And now that term rebuild is becoming less taboo around this Kings organization and more like, okay, this is what Scott Perry needs to do. This is what needs to be done. But naturally, there’s skepticism from the Sacramento Kings fan base about whatever this Kings organization is going to do and needs to do going forward because of how VC RanDavid’s tenure as owner has gone, his over involvement as time at times, him uh putting himself in decisionmaking positions, him emphasizing players that he wants or players that he likes and and strongarmming his basketball decision makers into doing things that he wants to see. The fan base is more than caught on with all of that that has gone on. And they’re also very aware that Vavc would far rather the Kings be competitive as quickly as possible than to truly build and do things the right way to not just be a playin team or a first round playoff exit, but to actually compete for a title at some point in the next decade. That’s what we’re talking about here. Kings fans do not feel fully confident or some of you don’t feel any confidence that VC Ronad will actually see a rebuild through. But should you? Well, Mark Haynes and I discuss that right now. I hope you enjoy this conversation. We could be in for a tough three to five years for a NBA rebuild here with the Sacramento Kings, but hey, maybe it’ll be worth it if they actually can do it the right way. And in order to get through it, we got to band together. That includes the media. And from the Sacramento Observer, I’ve got Mark Haynes, also one of the hosts of the Section 105 podcast. Called that because at the top of section 105 in the Golden One Center is where the uh the Kings Media sits. And Mark, we might be in for some uh some tough sledding in section 105 over the next few years. Uh, well, it’s been tough sledding this year to be completely honest with you. But I don’t know about you, as long as they actually truly do a rebuild the right way, I think I’m willing to see it through, but the right way is the big if with this organization, isn’t it? Yeah. No, I’m definitely with you on that. Like, it’s all about doing it the right way. It’s um, you know, it’s dark as you can see. I’m outside right now and it’s been dark and gloom. We haven’t seen the sun in like weeks or whatever. And we we also were rarely seeing the beam. Like that’s the only difference between Sacramento and Gotham City is Batman and them. They’re they’re uh putting that bat signal out there, but we haven’t seen that purple beam often. And uh but no, I think a rebuild is is the way to go. I think it’s all about doing it the correct way. Um, I think you know being that you know that this the way this season is going or whatever which is um it hasn’t it hasn’t went much of anywhere but the way this season has gone you know being in position to get a top five draft pick next year. You got to feel good about that if if you’re a Kings fan. So there’s a P word in Sacramento that Kings fans absolutely hate. That’s the word patience. And nobody in their right mind should look at a Kings fan in the eye and tell them to be patient without expecting to get either a verbal jab or an actual physical jab thrown back at them. That being said, the entire Sacramento Kings fan base should go to ownership, should go to VCron and say, “You need to have the proper patience with this rebuild. No shortcuts, no trying to jump up rungs of the ladder. Maybe you get lucky via the draft lottery or the team is better earlier than you expect, but don’t try and take shortcuts. I think one of the most important aspects of doing a rebuild the right way is having the right patience to let Scott Perry and the basketball operations people see this through. And it seems like that’s what Kings fans are hung up on right now before this process is even started. Mark is is VC is Kings ownership going to have the proper patience that it takes to do this the right way? Yeah, and that’s the big question cuz um you know that was the one thing I did notice or I felt I felt like I noticed this year or whatever. It does feel like VC is taken a step back. You know he’s you know he’s even what missed a couple of games this season or whatever or whatnot which is you know that’s pretty pretty rare for him. But I think you got I think he brought in a really good person in Scott Perry to do a rebuild, but it’s all about letting them do it. And like him, BJ Armststone been around the league for decades and they they know basketball. So that’s one thing that’s is good to have, you know, basketball minds, you know, in in Sacramento. Of course, guy come directly at me. Mark’s doing the podcast from a park. That’s how committed he is to Yeah. Yeah. I I had to do this. I couldn’t I couldn’t let my boy Matt down. But yeah, you have you have to uh VC has to let these guys, you know, do their mowing the lawn. Yeah. Like literally right here. But you have to let the guys do that job. And I think as long as um as long as he stays out the way and have patience cuz that’s what we’re asking the fans to do is be patient. As long as the bet can be patient, I think they have I think they have a good start coming into, you know, going into next year of starting off the rebuild the correct way. What do you have the most patience in or more patience in is or sorry, I should say more confidence in? Is it that ownership will handle this the right way or that the Sacramento Kings will do what they need to do to execute a a a rebuild the right way, which is you got to hit your draft picks. Like that is the only way this works, Mark. The Sacramento Kings have to hit their draft picks. Not one every once in a while like with Fox and Demarcus Cousins and then two or three years of bad in between. No, you have to nail two to sometimes three drafts in a row if you really want to be a competitor three to five years from now. Yeah, absolutely. It um the draft picks is going to be essential. Um, I think I’m I I think when we look at what they did in the draft this year or whatever, I think that should give Kings fans a little confidence, you know, going and get drafting, I mean, trading up to get me Clifford, uh, picking up Maxine Ray Nald in the second round, which is which is turning out to be a terrific pick. Um, I would say they’re two for two so far, you know, and um, with with the talent pool that they have coming up next year, you know, it it’s it’s it’s a lot of guys. I feel like it’s guys you can swing and miss on and still you still can land, you know, a stud. And like you said, it’s not about drafting, you know, the next LeBron James or whatever, but it’s, you know, you want to, of course, but it’s all about just drafting a piece that’s going to, you know, help contribute to to to getting this organization back to where or beyond where they were in the past cuz, you know, what conference finals, which what you know, Doug and Bob and all them been a part of, you know, Sacramento deserves a championship one day. They deserve to compete for a championship. So, I think just get making sure making sure you draft correctly. And if you miss, it’s okay to miss, but you don’t want to be you don’t want to miss and and pick up the next, you know, Anthony Bennett. Mm-m. There’s no doubt that Scott Perry has inherited a mess, but the one thing that is in Scott Perry’s favor in in the sense of taking this job and executing a rebuild is that the Sacramento Kings have full control over their draft capital going forward with the exception of I believe it’s in 2031 they have the swap rights with the San Antonio Spurs which was part of the sign and trade, not the Fox trade, part of the sign and trade to bring Demar Rose into Sacramento. Spurs get the better of the two picks. The Kings also though have the Timberwolves 2031 unprotected first round pick which they did get in the Fox trade and that’s the only pick with any kind of hope of turning into something. So hopefully the T- Wolves are bad by then, Mark. But having like that is the hottest commodity that the Kings have right now. More important than any singular player on their roster and that even includes Keegan Murray. Draft picks are invaluable for this organization right now. and the rest of the league knows how valuable a Kings first round pick is because likely they’re not going to be very good over the next three to five years. And if there’s anything you can count on in terms of consistency with this organization, it’s consistently being in the lottery. So, there’s one thing that Scott Perry can’t do, and that’s move draft picks and deals unless he is for sure certain that he’s getting the exact kind of piece that he wants. And none of these stars that are being floated out to be available right now make any sense for Perry to use a draft pick to go out and get. No, I agree with you 100% on that. Like I was just talking to u you know Siren Sass Golden Pod. Obviously the Warriors have Kaminga and stuff like that or whatever. But I I don’t I don’t think at this at this point in time I I don’t give up one of those draft picks. like there. That’s the biggest thing the Kings have going for them is these draft picks and, you know, getting them right is, you know, is is the second part. But keeping them, you know, you can’t let those go unless it’s somebody, you know, it’s it’s got to be an absolute game changer. There’s no no risk takes, none of none of that stuff. But I I’m I feel like and you can correct me if I’m wrong. I feel like it’s going to be very very hard for the Kings to mess up a rebuild. And I like I think they have a lot of things that’s going in their favor three to five years down the road. It’s definitely not going to happen overnight, but I think I think it’s in their favor to to be able in the next three to five years create something that Sacramento could be proud of. I love the optimism, Mark. What What gives you that that optimism though that you that you feel that way about the Kings doing the rebuild, right? It it might be my newness to to the team, you know, to cover the team. So I I I I could be being very naive and I’m I’m aware of that. But no, like I’m just looking at it from a video game standpoint. If if it’s me, I feel like I feel like I turn this thing around and I think Scott Perry has that same confidence. But like again, like we said at the beginning, we’ll see what Vbeck what he has planned and how patient can he be. Can he stay out the way? Can he let them do their thing? That’s the big that’s the big question. But I feel like everything is in order for the Kings to make make something happen. Is it trading a specific player? Is it trading a a bunch of players? Like it looks like between now and the trade deadline is when things are going to have to to start. I think this fan base would go into an uproar if the Kings don’t make any moves by this trade deadline. So to you, what is step one? Yeah, step one is you got to figure out one of the big names uh to at least get rid of by you know the deadline whether and I think the two easier names would be Zack Lavine and Dean Sabonis now they’re both going to be difficult you know cuz you know you’re going to be looking at the return what can you get for them uh team so like this is yeah this is probably going to be the hardest part even though it’s you know year one the hardest part is figuring out like what can we what moves can we make with Lavine or Sabonis or or even Demar that is going to help us you know in the future or whatever cuz teams are looking at the Kings and they understand that the Kings are in a bad spot so you don’t just like I don’t have to help like there’s no reason that I need to go trade trade my guys or my assets to the Kings. So, the Kings have to be very strategic in in how they pull this off and and what moves they make and what you know if they like like you said earlier the the picks the picks can’t go anywhere and ideally if you given up a Sabonis or or a Lavine you would want picks in return but again teams know that and then when you look at what teams are going to be interested in uh Lavine and Sabonis as good as players as they are you know is is not going to be as many teams as as people think. Is there any part of you and this this is not the best necessarily approach to have? That’s for sure. But is there any part of you in the case of Lavine and Sabonis who are both of course very talented basketball players, but have contracts that are probably amongst the worst in in the NBA. Is there any part of you that just says Scott Perry should just simply take what he can get for those guys, even if it’s pennies on the dollar because the real success in that trade is getting off of their money, or do you think the Kings should hold and push for as much value as possible, even if that means keeping them on the roster beyond the trade deadline? I think it’ be Zack Lavine. I think Zack Lavine um you know as as great of a offensive player he is as he showed you know the other day but um I don’t think he wants to be here. I don’t think the Kings I don’t think the Kings want him. I don’t think he wants to be here right to me it’s a bad relationship and I don’t think the relationship between the Kings and Sabonis is anywhere near what it is for Lavine. So, when it comes to Zack, yeah, I I definitely think he’s the guy that something has to happen by the trade deadline, you know, and I think it’ll be good, you know, probably better off for both sides because, yeah, it’s it’s clear, you know, it ain’t like he told me or anything, but it’s clear he he doesn’t want to be a Sacramento king. For Demand Sabonis specifically, we’ve talked a lot about and the league has talked a lot about he’s a tough guy to build around. you need very specific type of players to to play around Demand Sabonis and they’re being proven right year after year after year here in Sacramento. That being said, is there any part of you that does feel like even though he is overpaid, the contract that they gave him was was too much for what his production has been and his production has only dipped since he really got that that contract, right? Is can he be part of that rebuild? He would have to see through a lot of years of bad basketball. But can Demand Sabonis be part of the future of the Sacramento Kings or is it only a matter of time before either he wants out or the Kings want him out? you know, and I think I can see him being a part of it, but I don’t know if I mean a part of it in a, you know, in a positive way, like he wants to be a part of it, but I can definitely see him being a part of it cuz like the difference between like him and Lavine or even a D Rozan or whatever, like regardless, you’re going to get a double double out of him. You know, you’re going to get some production. Now, is he going to be an allstar? Is he going to take you to the next level? that no, you’re not you’re not looking for them to do that anymore. That’s what you know these future draft picks and and things like that and other moves or free agents, whatever. That’s what that’s going to be about. But if you if you were going to stick a guy in, you know, in purgatory or whatever, Sabonis is still going to give you solid production regardless if he’s happy, if he’s hurt or not. You still can rely on him for 10 and 14. You can’t we you could see Zack you could have a game where he has two points and that’s not going to help at all. So I I could I could see him being a part of the rebuild whether whether he likes it or not. Well, Domas might not have a choice because of his contract and how big it is. He might be forced to ride out a couple years here in Sacramento just until that contract gets to the latter half or latter end where maybe it’s easier to move then than it is right now. So Domas and the Kings might not have a choice but to remain together through this time and hopefully he likes his house over there in Napa. That being said, Mark, there’s no doubt that when you’re six and 18, like there there’s nobody on this roster that can be labeled untouchable. There are guys that the Kings could say they don’t want to move on from. I think Keegan Murray’s at the top of that list. I think Nate Clifford and Maxim Reno are on that list simply because they’re rookies and you want to see more of what you have. But in reality, every single player on this roster should be available for the right deal. Yeah. That being said, you can’t, as much as you want to just say clean house, get rid of everybody. You, that’s not realistic. This is an NBA 2K. There are going to be names that are on this roster now that will be on the team next year and in the years to come. So, in addition to because I’ll set aside Keegan, Ne, and Maxine. We expect them to be a part of it. In addition to those three, which names on this roster could be main like main guys, main rotation guys, guys that aren’t getting much opportunity right now. Are there names on this roster that you’re like, “Yeah, I I don’t mind I I don’t hate him remaining a king for the foreseeable future while the Kings get this rebuild started.” Well, the first first name that comes to mind for me is uh Malik M. You know, I I don’t mind Malik, especially in and I feel like this year is has put him in in the position where, you know, obviously his first what two seasons it was conversations of is he a starter or is he, you know, do we want him as a six-man and as bad as this team has been and for him to still be the six-man, I think regardless of what improvements happen or if any improvements happen, I think he’s a legit sixman. I think that’s what he’ll be in a Sacramento King jersey probably, you know, for however long he’s here. So, I I He’s the first guy that I I’m like, that’s that’s one obviously his name is going to always be in the trade rumors. It’s going to pop up, you know, um you know, he’s in an interesting situation, but he’s the guy that I think No, I I want him here. I think he’s a part of, you know, the new co the new culture that Sacramento is trying to build. you know, he was on that with the first with the original beam team, you know, he was kind of the guy that gave that team a little swagger, you know, with being, you know, his sense of humor, the personality. So, I think that’s something um, you know, Sacramento should hold on to. And, um, yeah, and I he I would say out of all all people, Malik Monk would probably be, in my opinion, fourth on that list of people to keep. Like I said at the top of the show, this episode of Locked on Kings is brought to you by Game Time. The World Cup is coming back to North America for the first time since 1994. Yeah, I I feel the same way as you do when it comes to Malik and how important he’s been. For some reason, it seems like since this regime, this Scott Perry regime has taken over, that Malik is not part of their future plans. I do think a large part of that has to do with the fact that I think Malik Malik is a valuable commodity. I think there are going to be legitimate contenders that could use a scoring punch off the bench and they have two to choose from here in Sacramento between Demar Rozan and Malik Monk. Malik’s a little bit cheaper, is also younger, is a true energy sixman of the year candidate off the bench. So, I feel like if Malik’s going to be moved, it’s going to be less about the Kings don’t want him and more about he’s something that could actually get them legitimate value. What that value is, I don’t know if it’s like a late first round pick. I don’t know if it’s a young player that actually fits the identity or model of how the Kings want to build going forward, but that’s the way I like I I personally would be surprised if Falik Monk is still a Sacramento king at the trade deadline because of that reason because he has value and the Kings need to capitalize on whatever value that they have. But there’s no to me there’s no way, shape, or form that Malik Monk remaining a Sacramento king is ever a bad thing. Yeah. No, I’m with you. Like he’s like you said, he’s he’s the name that’s going to be in all the trade talks. He’s the guy that, you know, he has a friendly contract. Uh he’s going to make sense for a lot of teams, but um and since the beginning, since the beginning, it seemed like he was going to be the guy that traded it. But yeah, like I don’t outside of Malik, I just don’t I don’t even know if I could put that stamp on like you have to be here, you know, you have to be a part of this. Uh it’s it’s really a a situation where you know not I guess it is like everybody must go to an extent but it’s and but it’s that’s not possible like you said it’s not possible. So it’s I’m I’m really like my mind has been fried thinking about like what the heck is really going to happen. I I I kind of feel like something that none of us are thinking about is going to, you know, randomly happen and it’s going to be like, where’d that come from? Whatever. But this is this is strange. It’s a bizarre bizarre situation. What about Precious Acha? Like Precious is someone that has come in and he was on the couch to start this season. He didn’t have a team and he’s come in and he’s played hard. He’s played well. Now again, we’re talking about not someone who’s going to be a part of a perennial playoff team going forward. And no disrespect to Precious, maybe he can be that, but here in Sacramento, you’re talking about an energy guy, a guy that’s going to play hard and do things the right way over stretches where the Kings aren’t going to be very good. Like Precious has been doing that this season. So Precious is one of those guys that I see on this roster that’s like, if you were to tell me Precious is a king for the next couple seasons, again, I don’t have super high expectations, but I’m like, “Yeah, I’m good with it. That’s another guy on this roster that I’d be all right with.” Yeah. No, no problem. I think it just being on that, you know, on a minimum deal or whatever, I don’t think he’s going to get like paid or anything like crazy or whatever like that, but will he want to be here? Like, will he have any opportunities to go, you know, go elsewhere? That’s, you know, that’s the funny thing about Sacramento, too, is just like getting players to want to be in Sacramento. But I could definitely see he looks like the type of guy that that could be in Sacramento a few years or whatever. Uh, yeah. And I ain’t mad at the the situation he came into and how he’s performed. I think he’s over overachieved, you know, to what he started with, the second game he was here or first. Yeah, something I think it was the first one. Yeah, something crazy. And um you know, he’s he’s responded well. He’s been, you know, it’s it’s funny that we could we could come up with all these like little positives and stuff to talk about when it comes to Kings, but then you look at the record six and 18. It’s like it’s like what are we talking about? We’re trying to find the little bits of joy in and all the pain. Mark, oh man. Gut feeling, brother? Like Keon Ellis, is Keon Ellis a king after this season or do you think he’s gone? Yeah. And I and I purposely didn’t bring him up or whatever. And it’s not because I don’t like him or whatever. Like, no, I I think he I think he should be a king. I think he should stay. But I understand, you know, the value that he can bring to a team or whatever, especially um a competitive team. But it’s go it’s weird for him too cuz if he goes somewhere to a you know a contender, me and Jeremiah was talking about this one one day. Um, if he goes to a a contending team, will he be allowed to be Keon Ellis? Obviously, he could, you know, he can play defense, he could get, you know, be in the passing lanes, do those type of things, but will they give him the opportunity that he gets, you know, with Sacramento? Even though he gets the DMPS and things like that, but if he’s on, you know, the Lakers, if he’s on the Lakers, how many minutes does Keon Ellis get? Although, I think he could really help them. He could do some really good things, but you know, it’s kind of a a weird situation. I I would I would hate to see him go. I I would hate to see him go, but I feel like it has to. I feel like it’ll be best for him. Um or it can. I feel like it can be best for him. Uh because just the situation on, you know, why Doug won’t play him consistently. Uh you know, what Sacramento has against him, like none of us know. None of us know. And it and it’s weird and and for him to continue to be himself, continue to play at a high level with all that hap happening, it just shows like what type of professional he is. Last one. Mark, what do you make of this Devin Carter situation? I mean, a lottery pick last year. Has the shoulder surgery. He was Monty’s pick. It was the wrong pick from the jump. I think everybody knew that. That’s not Devin Carter’s fault. But here we are where he’s out of the rotation. He played well for the Stockton Kings last night. is the first basketball he’s actually really played since like early November. Like Devin Carter’s future with the Kings is is is gone. But is this future in the league done or is he going to be another one of those guys that we see go somewhere else like DaVon Mitchell in Miami turn into something the Kings are like ah crud. I do I do think that I and you took the words right out of my mouth. I think he’s going to be similar to a DaVon Mitchell. Maybe not maybe not as successful as DaVon. I think Daviana is a better better player, but I do think like you said, it was it was not his fault that he was drafted to the Sacramento Kings. And it’s not even that the Kings Yeah, it is. It’s not his fault. It’s It’s not his fault. And um when we see him play in the G- League, you know, he shows that he can actually play basketball. He can, you know, maybe develop into something that’s just not going to happen here. like not a chance. He’s going to be going as soon as they could get him out of there. And it’s, you know, it sucks for him because it’s like two years of his career is like really wasted. It’s been a waste. And I think he’s handling it well, you know, like but yeah, it sucks, but I do think he goes somewhere else. I think he becomes a better player. And I don’t think he’s out of the league. I don’t think he’s that bad. Well, you want to know how committed Mark Haynes is to covering Sacramento Kings basketball for the Sacramento observer? He’s fighting groundskeepers at a park. I can see the I can see his breath because it’s that cold outside, but he’s still here on locked on Kings. Mark, get back in your car. Get the heck out of there, brother. I appreciate you so much for doing this. And uh we’ll do it again soon. Hopefully from your living room. Yes, sir. That’s what definitely. Let me know and I got you, man. Thanks for having me, Matt.

Matt George and Mark Haynes from the Sacramento Observer discuss the likelihood of the Kings handling a rebuild correctly, and which current Kings players should be a part of that rebuild.

  1. How do we know we aren’t already in a rebuild focused around Keegan? All NBA greats didn’t start off great. I think we are over looking Keegan’s development as the next to take us over the top. We need to get rid of ball hogs like Lavine and Derozan and let Keegan develop. We just need a shot blocker and some shooters and let Keegan cook

  2. Be careful with a rebuild after hiring a former nba player as your head coach.

Typically these types of coaches are more vet leaning and not really great teachers.

If The Kings are really going to a youth movement i would suggest a young head coach who has a specific vision of the style of play he wants to demand.

  3. I truly think we can have a solid team in two years and then be pushing the playin in the third year and the playoffs the following. To help get the fans there, ownership should cut all tickets and concessions at Golden1 back by 25% for the next 3 years.

  4. Matt George, I heard Grant Napear today echoing your view that Keegan needs to start making shots. Zero excuses. He isn’t a rookie anymore and is being paid a big contract. I know he isn’t a #1 scorer but he needs to show growth in his offensive game. Keegan is a centerpiece of this rebuild.

  5. If they do it right and make the playoffs, but this whole organization needs a major upgrade not just the its roster. But I don’t see this happening anytime soon. It’ll be interesting to see what Scott Perry has in store this off season

  6. Uh, no. You’ve got a crap team that gets even crappier with every trade, free agent signing, and change of the calendar date. Sell the team, move the team, and 100% overhaul the team and we’ll revisit this current joke in a few years. “Light the Beam” has been replaced by “Light my Fart” in SackTown.

  7. Sacramento, New Orleans, Washington, Charlotte: enjoy the teams you have now as much as they suck, because as soon as the NBA expansion goes global your shit will be in Europe lmaoooooo

  8. My optimistic time line will improve the second I don't have to watch Lavine in a Kings uniform. Now Perry did do a radio interview today and sounds convincing so I will be watching to see if his actions match. As for Domas I think it could work here, he will still just play hard

  9. What other team will be dumb enough to take on Lavine's contract. He makes $47 mil this year and $48 mil next year. On top of that, he does not contribute to winning but instead contributes to losing. Teams don't want that. Best hope for the Kings is for the whole Kings organization including Kings fans (including the Kings superfan) to keep turning on him so that he opts out of his contract next year which he has a player option. I do NOT want to keep having to watch this guy. He is so unlikeable and has a trashy attitude. He does not like Kings fans nor even his own teammates. He needs to go.

  10. My reasoning before the season to include an unprotected 1st for Kuminga In 2030 I believe was because he's soaking wet dripping with raw athletic talent and will have a literal mountain sized chip on his shoulder to prove Kerr and the Warriors wrong.

I wasn't expecting Kuminga to turn Sacramento into a western conference finals winner but considering they are 6-18 and called a difficult watch and don't have some budding All nba superstar i still think it would have made sense if the Deal was made.

They could be 11-14 or 14-11 even and Kuminga be a fringe Allstar.

Also the deal would have also gotten Kings off that 18 million dollar they owed Monk if they included that unprotected 1st.

I'm still not 100 percent convinced I'd still not have done it. But I also absolutely love how Scott played it too.

Kuminga could end up being like He is with Golden State but I honest to God think He will absolutely explode once He plays for a players Coach in Christie and made to feel both wanted and appreciated.

I really want to see it. Nothing more formidable in the NBA then an extremely talented NBA lottery pick that feels slighted and is dying for an opportunity to prove it.

I think Kuminga will be GREAT with Sacramento and will kick start the rebuild and make the Kings fanbase come alive again.
