Commanders NEED To Trade Down And Get More Picks When They Have A Top 5 Pick In 2026 NFL Draft
I’m trade down Pollson. I don’t know if you know that about me. Um, just generally, but especially when you made the fewest picks last year and you’ve got the fewest top four round picks this year and you have as many holes as they do, the the higher up the board you go, the better cuz you could get more coming back. But Trey Pollson might be might even move down two times before he makes a pick. the longer I’ve done the draft stuff, and this is more draft philosophy. So, again, this is a little bit of a side, but when you look at the numbers, like like the math in terms of draft hits and losses, the teams that pick the most have the best drafts. So, it’s not like rocket science how this thing works. Everyone kind of wants to overvalue their evaluation, trust this spot, do this thing. You want as much draft capital as you possibly can. It’s a cheap, costcontrolled asset that is a developmental piece of your organization, and you just want more bites at the apple. So, I’m I’m not quite that my nickname’s not trade down Pollson, but I’m pretty close. You know what I mean?
Logan and Grant discuss their draft philosophies as the Commanders are likely to have a top 5 pick in NFL Draft

Agreed
Trading down for more picks only works if the GM can evaluate talent. Adam Peters has not shown that ability.

If washington picks in the top4 or 5. I say don't trade back. Washington needs defense and Texas am pass rusher looks good to wreck havoc on offenses

I'm mostly in agreement. The analytics show that the hit rate of good GMs vs bad GMs really is only a couple percentage points of difference. That stat is probably a little slanted because a good GM that picks more often will force more marginal or slow developing players off his roster, driving his percentage down. But volume does seem to be important.
But I'm also opposed to hard and fast rules. If you're sitting on the board and there's a generational pass rusher staring you in the face, should you 'consider' offers coming in? Absolutely. But your price should be brutally high and you should be willing to stick and pick. Always be flexible to the circumstances.
