Pretty sound objective analysis on why a giannis trade doesn’t move the needle enough for a team to pull the trigger.

GA obviously wants out, but i can’t see him forcing the front office to take a bad deal. Maybe a sufficient one won’t materialize.

  1. The logic is sound, and paradoxically it’s the same reason why it doesn’t make sense for the Bucks to keep him, either.

Whoever decided this should happen now (Giannis or the Bucks) pulled the trigger too late, frankly, and it will likely cost us in the form of a lesser package.

I’ve said it before – the moment Dame’s achilles snapped the window was over and Giannis was getting traded.  I literally said so that night on this sub.

Unfortunately, we’ve done more dumb shit since then.

  2. It’s honestly not a great analysis. Teams aren’t going to just sit back and let OKC win titles for the next 5 years. Teams in the East would look at Giannis as getting a primed top 3 NBA player for the next 4-5 years (with an extension). That’s more of a sure bet than 90% of young cores in the league actually panning out.

I honestly don’t buy JackTravers4 has a grasp on the trade market for Giannis. None of us do. Just because a trade hasn’t happened doesn’t mean there’s no market.

  3. Trading a player like Giannis really only works in the off-season. You only trade for a player like him if you’re a contender, but if you’re a contender you don’t want to make a trade that big mid-season. Giannis is probably stuck here for the rest of the season.

  4. I guess one could ask what teams would give OKC a tough time currently in the East? Right now, DET and NY are currently leading the East, on pace for 58-60 wins each. DET and NY both played a tight series last year, NY lost in 6 to IND but they obviously don’t have to worry about Tyrese this year. Who in the East this year is going to play spoiler? And will NY, with the current win pace, take a risk of messing with team chemistry 20+games in and trade away KAT, etc.? Also is ATL willing to trade Jalen Johnson? I don’t think they will.

In the West, the three teams I have seen pop up are HOU, SA, and GS the most (and maybe even POR). Latest mock trade I saw from SI said Giannis, Sims, Coffey and Thanasis for Amen, Reed, Van Fleet, and Steven Adams and a couple of first round picks. Houston does lose on of their best shooters, perimeter defenders and offensive rebounders but improve everything that Amen does offensively but with Giannis at an elite level.

SA I think is probably thinking like ATL and are wary of pulling the trigger on trading great young players. GS might just say fuck it out of desperation but I’m not sure what they have to give.
