DJ takes 2nd base. Today we are looking for the worst contract in baseball TODAY of an active catcher.

No such thing as a bad contact for a catcher.
They all squat
it genuinely pains me to say this, because he was so awesome for us, but
christian vazquez
Once again I’m imploring the person who makes these posts to add the player/salary list to their post. Some one will eventually put it in a reply that will not be at the top of the thread
That extra bit of effort could make these posts so much better
I’m looking at Keibert Ruiz Nationals (8 yrs, ~$50 M)
Both Travis d’Arnaud (2y/12m) and Keibert Ruiz (8y/50m) are expensive for replacement-level catchers
d’Arnaud is throwing money away cos you need a guy, I vote Ruiz cos that’s throwing money away on a guy you really wanted to be a key part of your core
Talk to me about the Will Smith contract (10y/140m) in 2033 if we’re all still around
Sean Murphy. Owed $45 million over the next 3 years and has been frequently injured and below average offensively for a couple years now.
He might not even be the best catcher on his team anymore and is going to be paid a decent amount to be in a more limited role.
What is with this order
Mitch Garver, at 2/$24 to put up negative WAR, and only 60 games of work as backup to Dumper. Idk if it still counts here, since the contract ended after the WS
I like how we just ignored the word active for 2B
C’mon, get to 3B so we can all post our Rendon hate
Keibert Ruiz
8 years / $50M. Has only accrued 2.8 rWAR and is one of the worst bats and gloves behind the dish.
Keibert Ruiz got one of those Corbin Carroll/Ronald Acuna/etc. extensions and has sucked.
8/50 I think it was?
I never see comments at the top suggesting players, just people dumping all over this post lol
Wtf is this order of operations.
Get it together.
keibert Ruiz, I am so unbelievably pissed about that contract what a waste
vasquez although his just ended
Was DJs contract that bad?
Jose Trevino is currently the 9th highest paid catcher in baseball (5.25M in 2026) and barely finished in the top 50 in FanGraphs catcher WAR (49th) last season.
I get why DJ won yesterday but it seems like a bad choice considering teams are paying players to have a negative WAR. DJ put up 0.6 WAR in 45 games. He was mostly let go because he couldn’t play 3B anymore and we wanted to put Jazz back at 2B. We’re essentially paying an extra $15mil to have Jazz at 2B which every Yankee fan is fine with.
Holy crap Salvador Perez earned 20 million last year and returned .5 WAR
Keibert Ruiz was a pre-arb extension (8 years $50M through 2030) who may very well be out of baseball altogether otherwise.
Rendon. That is all
Who is at 1st base and 2nd base and what are their contracts? Why isn’t that in the graphic? If you aren’t showing it, what’s the point?
Josue brisceno
What a nice thread
This exercise is teaching us that all of the fear that you’ll be stuck playing a guy at 39 because you signed him to a big deal is overblown
Keibert Ruiz is my pick here. Average behind the plate, and has a mediocre bat. Being paid 8/50mil is a yikes for the stats he got.
Ruiz.
MITCH GARVER
Gotta be Keibert, unfortunately.
Will Smith is worth every GOD DAMN PENNY🤦🏼♀️
Also, why do you think the dodgers dumped Keibert Ruiz as soon as humanly possible…
Why are we going first base, second base, catcher? What order is this?
Perez
I vote for whoever is on the Yankees.
tbh i’m surprised the avg WAR is positive.
Vazquez is the clear selection
WHY ARE WE GOING OUT OF ORDER!?
