Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles lining up as PERFECT trade partners
It’s the Score North Twin Show. Baseball. All right, the boys are back. Score North Twin Show. Phil Mackey, Jud Zulgad, Declan Goff here uh to break down another reckless speculation. It is reckless speculation Thursday and I have some reckless ideas. Reckless speculation for your Minnesota Twins. couple trade ideas. I’m really excited to uh to discuss them with you guys. Wow. I’m uh I’m also excited to get some of Jud’s thoughts from the topics we talked about earlier this week without him and uh this battle that’s happening in like twins media and it’s like the twins are kind of from a PR standpoint pushing or hey we’ve gotten permission the green light to add we’re add we’re going to use the word add. Not really though because like you don’t you don’t get mathematically you’re not adding. So I’m curious to see where this all lands uh with the payroll and maybe Declan has some creative ideas to make this team better without necessarily. Maybe they can we can make the team better and we can rightsize the business all in one fell swoop and everyone can be happy. That’s what I want to see. Our house is shrinking but you know we could get a brand new lamp in that living room. Yeah. you know, like% new everywhere two years ago. It wouldn’t be brand new, though. It It would be new to your house, but like the Reese Hoskins lamp is not new. Like, like you’re going to a garage sale to find that lamp. So, like you’re not going to, you know, um a nice store to find it. Uh thrift store shopping for baseball players, a timehonored tradition here. Antiquing. I was antiquing on Saturday. What the heck? Right. Good time. And you uh so I want to start here. Hit the like button, subscribe button, too. Appreciate everyone. The last like week on the Scor Twin Show has been like our biggest week since like the middle of the season, uh since like post trade deadline stuff. So awesome. Even though the Twins are very infuriating in a lot of different ways. You guys love to listen and support the show. So thank you if you haven’t already hit the like button and subscribe button. Uh let’s start here. So I have a I have a ideal trade partner with the Twins. I think this just lines up perfectly. And to be honest, I think a lot of teams might be hashtag entering this chat, too. Um, after what happened yesterday. So, the Baltimore Orioles signed the Polar Bear. They signed Pete Alonzo. Big-time contract, going to play first base, some DH2 every day, but a a solid first baseman. Um, and if the Twins only have the limited, let’s call it 10 to$20 million to play with, I think a trade might make more sense. Trades might make more sense. Whether that’s even just swapping contracts, whether that’s um um flipping contracts for cheaper assets, and I feel like the twins and birds are perfect trade partners. So, two names in question here, Ryan Mount Castle and Kobe Mayo. I want to start with Mount Castle because I think the male part’s a lot more juicier. Mount Castle is coming off an injury riddled season. Um I think he played in less than a 100 games. He’s on the last year of team control plus defender at first base defensively over his career. Um he’s going to make about I think he was he’s projected to make around $6.5 million this year. So he fits your budget. Um, you can obviously land a guy who’s entering the last year of team control for not a top 10 prospect. It’s very easy to to get him. Um, so that’s the first name. He’s easier to acquire. Um, he he is off a rough year, but over the last three to four years before that, a slightly above average uh offensive first baseman. He’s been a pretty solid defensive first baseman. That’s the first name, Ryan Mount Castle, cuz he’s he just basically lost playing time completely. uh to Pete Alonzo. Okay. Sports dad. I don’t hate it. Um so the price is six and a half you said. Yeah, roughly. I mean that’s what’s And let’s see. And let’s see. We are we’re hearing that they are going to be allowed to add as much as um as 20 I believe million dollars. So you get up to 1156 and a half. Yeah. I mean if if I can get them for dirt cheap. Yes. You could also do something where maybe like Trevor Lick’s contract goes out or even here’s an idea. Here’s here’s a halfbaked idea. Baltimore needs pitching way more badly than the Twins need Ryan Mount Castle, right? Like Baltimore needs pitching badly. Their their lineup could be legitimately one of the best in baseball. A lot of potential and then you add Pete Alonzo to it. They need pitching. Is is there a world where maybe you actually swap one problem, not one problem, but one thing that you can send out and one thing you need for the other? Bailey Ober is coming off an injury riddled season. I think he has one more year of team control left about to make, let’s see, he’s projected also to make around $6.5 million. Do you swap contract for contract? You have other pitchers that are coming up here. Solves a problem for Baltimore. twins get a first baseman that maybe they buy low on and maybe could even extend or just use him as a mercenary. That also would work. You’re just swapping out contracts. Again, we’re we’re swapping things out of the house at the antique store basically, right? Yeah. I mean, like All right. On Mount Castle specifically, he’s he’s in he’s like a when he’s when he’s right, I guess it’s it’s it’s his best season was probably four years ago. So it’s well you could argue like from a war perspective his best overall season was 2024. Uh he was worth two and a half wins above replacement. He was like an above replacement above average level baseball player. His best offensive season by a mile was in 2021 when he hit 33 home runs and had an OPS just a tick below 800. Um, so if you’re if you’re getting something within the range of like 2024 Mount Castle and a guy that has potential to maybe hit 25 or 30 home runs, give your lineup a boost. Right-handed hitter, he mostly mashes left-handed pitching, which is good. Mhm. Um, I’m interested, but I’m also, as we talk about kind of what to do with this house here, all right, we’ve been given a budget. We can go to the thrift store or whatever. I kind of zoom out to the macro of if your conversations are about, hey, we can add Ryan Mount Castle to this thing right now and see what happens. I would rather demo the house and start building a house for 2027 or 28. So, that’s kind of my barometer here is like, does Ryan Mount Castle move the needle enough for this team to be a real threat in the American League and prevent you from selling high on Byron Buckton off a career season? Pablo Lopez who still has value. Um, so I’m looking at this through a little bit of a different lens. If I’m getting the best version of Mount Castle and three of my young position players break out, okay, still wondering about the bullpen and and the pitching. Um, but it’s borderline. It’s borderline as to whether it’s worth it versus the alternative path in my opinion. I think the thing I unfortunately I think what we’re talking about here is literally just getting someone to play first base who’s not necessarily Cody Clemens. So, and I mean you see the free agent names being throw thrown out like and it feels to me like this is just going to be about price. So, is Ryan Mount Castle going to make you substantially better? The answer is no. Can he go stand there as a a human being with a glove and play first base? The answer is yes. Um but I mean yes I I don’t if you have decided that you’re not gonna keep over long term and plus you just think you know what 2024 is or 25 is sort of indicative of where he’s going. This would be the type of trade. Yeah. But I mean, I’m with Phil completely, but I don’t feel that this current iteration of the Twins is thinking the way that Phil is yet, which almost needs to happen at some point in time, but it might just happen through through the progression of allowing this to play out to. Well, real quick on the co. So Cody Clemens is also an interesting barometer because he did play uh 58 games at first base, started 47, and according to baseball reference, he was worth three DRS, defensive runs saved. So average being zero. Uh and if you extrapolated that to a full season, Cody Clemens would have been a plus nine defensive run saved at first base. So you you almost have to use him as a bar too that all right he was better than a he was better than a like a replacement level player. His offense took a major dip at the end of the season. He actually wound up like really tanking offensively in the last couple months. But um are you better than Cody Clemens is another is another barrier. It’s so pathetic to say that but it’s correct. right size the business. Get it all good. Uh, now he is a he’s a left-handed hitter. Mount Castle’s right-handed hitter. I mean, could you find Yeah. some sort of platoon situation there that that creates one good player out of two. Check. Don’t hate your idea. It’s not It’s not terrible. It’s not terrible. Okay. The other name though from the birds and by the way if you Google if you just put in Riyot Mount Castle or Kobe Mayo who I’m about to talk to there is trade ideas and rumors flying on both of these guys both at different basically polar opposite ends of the spectrum uh with Baltimore’s long-term plans. Mount Castle nearing the end of his control and about to enter free agency and Kobe Mayo who turned 24 yesterday. half blade of birthday to Kobe Mayo under obviously control through the next de uh through into the next decade and he’s hit just 204 with a 79 OPS in 102 big league games. I will say in September last year for Baltimore he finished strong uh 941 OPS hit 300 and going into last season he was a top 15 prospect in all of baseball. So the B Baltimore has been loaded with a lot of these guys, but when he’s got an opportunity, hasn’t really shined. Again, now you signed Pete Alonzo, he he played third base coming up to the minor leagues, they put him at first base. They doesn’t sound like they want to put him back at third. So again, like where does he fit in? If you just gave $150 million to Pete Alonzo, now you’re cooking with gas. This is the type of So Ryan Mount Castle for like a year or two, it doesn’t move the needle all that much. the best season he’s ever had is like a two two and a half wins above replacement season. He doesn’t, you know, Cody Clemens was one win. You’d be maybe improving by like a win above above uh Cody Clemens level for a year in a short-term situation. He’s not going to sell tickets or anything like that. Kobe Mayo is the type of player that a savvy front office would target. Okay, you guys just put Pete Alonzo in that spot. You have blocked this player. And they might say, “Well, we could find a different spot for Kobe Mayo.” But they kind of have a lineup that’s solidified. Like, don’t they already have they got their nine guys basically in Baltimore right now? Yep. Yep. And and so you could argue two things. One, Baltimore, what are you going to do with this? To Declan’s point, uh both baseball perspectus and MLB.com had Kobe Mayo as a top 15 overall prospect going into last season, but he but he didn’t perform that well in the 85 games that he played. And sometimes this happens in baseball where all right here’s a guy that’s a badass prospect and he’s getting his in this case it was he had a cup of tea in 2024 but this is his first real playing time and it doesn’t click right away and their value goes down but he is still a thousand plate appearances away from being able to write a book on whether he’s a bust or not. So you could come in and say, “Well, you’ve blocked his path, so you know, value goes down for you guys.” And uh and he really was kind of crappy in 85 games, 300 plate appearances. Value down a tick. You could buy low on a 24y old top 15, let’s say at this point, let’s say top 50 overall baseball prospect cuz he cuz his stock went down last year. Yeah. But that’s the type of lottery ticket I’d rather be in that business than the Ryan Mount Castle business and and try to ride a stock up the ladder. You’re burying the lead though. Get your hand on the button. $820,000 is is what his uh spoke track contract is. $820,000. Come on down Kobe Mayo. How you doing? You’re buying Jake Mill. Oh, no. You’re not. No one’s mind. We’re going to Chipotle. We’re going past casual. We’ll take the Glock. We’ll take the Glock. We’ll take the Glock. Actually, gift cards. Yeah. God. Uh, so, so Jake, he covers Baltimore.com, and he wrote about both these guys yesterday following the winter meetings wrapping up and said, “The more likely trade ship is Mayo, a former top prospect who turned 24 on Wednesday after coming up to the Miners as a third baseman. He’s made the full-time move to first and as his struggles at third made him a better fit across the diamond. Mayo should garner interest on the trade market and it would make a ton of sense for the Orioles to move him in their pursuit of starting pitching. So the Twins obviously have Pablo and Joe Ryan ready to rock. I don’t, by the way, I I wouldn’t trade Joe Ryan for Kobe Male. I don’t do a package for for that. His stock is down. I that would be an overpay in my opinion. I’m not in the business if if Baltimore says it’s well it’s Joe Ryan or bus then I hang up the phone and I I pivot to Ryan Mount Castle or I pivot to someone else. But they also have a plethora of young arms that are either here or have knocked on the door or just need an opportunity to pitch in Simon Woods Richardson, Zebie Matthews, Taj Bradley, Mick Ael. I have David Fest in here but the other four names are likely other ones that would likely garner more interest. um guys that have had either success in the big leagues or guys that are also like have graduated from 100 prospect list because they’ve spent time there. So, do you use your position of strength as starting pitching, which the Twins have, Baltimore is literally asking for human beings with a pulse. Same with the Twins and their bullpen, the same need for them and starting pitching. Is there a world where you can give up a Zebie Matthews if it’s worth getting Kobe May some playing time and and a chip that you want to continue with? So, I’m curious what that trade would look like. I think it is to Phil’s point, it’s not as uh high as it was a year ago if you were trying to trade for Kobe Mayo because he had a a bad 2025, but I do think there’s a world where a trade would make sense between the Twins and Birds for for Mayo, too. Well, if you could if you could get away with trading let’s say si I think you start the conversation with Simeon Woods Richardson, I guess. But yeah, but I think I think Woods Richardson’s the type of guy because he’s under Twins team control through 2031. I think he’s the type of guy that All right, if I’m if I’m looking at the long arc here and I think he can be a rotation guy for a handful of years and not that expensive, right size the business. Shout out. This is where I would be looking to trade Pablo Lopez. Unless you think you’re going to win big in the next two years, there’s no reason to not shop Pablo Lopez at this point. And so, could you go to Baltimore and say, “Hey, we have a guy that like flirts with Sai Young voting here. He actually finished. Didn’t he get like top five Sai Young votes a couple years ago, whatever it was?” Yeah. And um we’re just not in a place, if we’re being honest, to to really capitalize on him at this point. That’s not what I’m doing. So So why don’t you give us Kobe Mayo and a couple other things. Yep. You need more and and you you build something that brings three really good young players back. And Kobe Mayo, by the way, steps right in as your starting potential starting first baseman in your opening day lineup. And I know that the uh handful of remaining passionate fans that like why aren’t they Listen, like they’re not again barring like six young guys all clicking at the same time and then magically putting together a bullpen. You’re not competing for a World Series this year. So, get out in front of this, make the right baseball moves, and go go capitalize on to Declan’s point on a team that has some assets that are expendable at this point. So, Joe Ryan and Pablo, the the one thing there too, and which I think is going to happen here, is I think they’re going to trade them both at the deadline to create bidding wars when teams pay stupid prices. Um, so th those two to me I’m not an I’m not e eager to trade. Now if I can get Mayo at a discount because of his struggles and that’s a big question mark. I don’t know. But if I can I do it. Um but I really think like like if you are in my opinion if you are going to be savvy about this and you’ve been told okay right now you do not have to cut payroll. You can keep your guys you can keep your three star players or your three good players and you can even add a little bit. I I’m probably going to go sign a first baseman off the street at this point in time and I’m going to hold my powder here for the deadline because I think I can get the plan should be to trade them both. I mean, Lo, Lopez and Ryan should be traded here because they’re not they’re not going to contribute to a World Series championship here at some point in time. The clock is ticking too much. So, I would probably be more apt to trade them in July, which also might be when I spin Buckton off to the Dodgers so he and Rocco can live happily ever after in Los Angeles together. So that’s my So so this is why I think they’re going to go into the the dumpster dive like free agency bin for a first baseman who’s cheap to rightsize the business right now and try and hold on to those guys until the deadline when they’re probably struggling and can say oh okay we’re open for we’re open for business on three players who are going to get us what should be very very big returns at that point. But don’t you view their don’t you view that as kind of risky for for three players that have pretty big injury histories, especially Byron Buckton? Like what if Byron Buckton hits the injured list for a month and a half? Oh yeah. And you had a chance to deal him and he was open to it by the way in December and I mean let’s you know Pablo Pablo missed like three months came back at the end much to some people’s chagrin that what’s the point? Well, the point is Pablo showed, “Hey, I’m back. I made three starts in September. I’m alive, everybody. Don’t worry about me.” Well, okay. What if he I don’t know, like what if his hip gives out what like whatever it is. And now you’ve Yes. Yeah. And and Pablo wants to go play for his country in the World Baseball Classic. And it sounds like Buckston does too. And and they could sprain an ankle, break a leg. There’s no question. Trade him before that. Take away the risk. Trade him before that. I don’t think I don’t I think they’re trying to play both sides here. I mean, I I don’t like what they’re doing in any way, shape, or form. I don’t approve. I I don’t think it’s But that’s my that’s my sense. My sense is that this whole thing about we can keep these guys for now is a rope a doote because they’re convinced that fans will say, “Oh, you’re keeping them.” But they have no long-term intention. But you bring up very good points and if this was my show to run, I would run it completely differently. Okay. That could be an episode. Jud Jud’s Jud runs the Twins for a week. I’d love to run every team in this tournament. Aside from the Wolves, aside from the Wolves. I feel like Connley does a really good job. I shouldn’t say that. Um, but my issue is the Twins should accept the fact that their stock is so low now. I don’t think fans saw, and I know that they’re trying to get this out, right? Oh, we’re keeping guys and we’re going to add payroll as Phil. So, that’s nonsense. But I mean, they think we’re they think fans are dumb enough to buy that. And my thing would be they’re not. No one’s excited because you said you’re keeping Byron Buckton, Pablo Lopez, or Joe Ryan. I’m sorry. The the time to be like really a year ago was the time to the peak outrage of look where you were in October of 2023. Why did you strip this down? Why did you remove resources and get here? And now they’re they’re trying Yeah. to your point, they’re trying to do the well, we’re hey, we’ve got permission now to we’ve got these new minority owners and everything, but f it’s they’re so far gone, right, with fans at this point, right, that they they actually have a window now where they can kind of keep tearing down the house and there’s not a whole lot more damage that can be done with the fan base. The damage was done at the trade deadline. It was done a year ago. It’s been done for 2 years. And so now that they actually have a free pass to maybe just, hey, let’s just stockpile good young players and build this. Just get young, get talented, get athletic, and do it quickly and take your lumps in 2026 when your approval rating is already at an all-time 25-year low. And even then, they they they mistimed that part of it. Well, no, wait a second. Hold on, everybody. Hold on. We’re done. like like the funeral is done and then it’s like oh hold on a second we were wrong. The person’s still alive and it’s like I went to the funeral. I ate the snacks. It’s over. I saw so I don’t know if it was AI. I saw one of those videos on social media yesterday where it was like it was like a funeral, you know, with like the security camera and all of a sudden like some like whoever was in the casket like pops the casket open. Like does that happen? It’s the twins. Let’s go. Want to be cremated? Cuz if I cuz if I wake up in that, I’m dead. I am with you. Cremation is the way to go. And I’m Catholic and I’m like, I’m out. Yeah. Just burn me up. Hey, uh so so Jud has thoughts on the potential new minority investors. But just quickly here, uh some other twins news that came came about uh last night. So Jud mentioned Reese Hoskins. Um so Dan Hayes reported Hoskins, Josh Bell, and Ryan O’Harn. Uh the twins have shown interest in those free agent first basemen. Uh another thing from Bobby Nightingale of the Star Tribune. It sounds like Luke Keshaw is going to get some run in the outfield this spring training left and center field uh specifically. Uh so that’s something to watch this spring. And then in terms of the bullpen uh external additions and even guys and Bobby writes which includes non-roster invitees to spring training and continuing on young relievers to mature quickly. The twins haven’t committed to which starters will convert to relievers. Marco Rya who spent the entire first year in Clash AA seems like a likely option. I personally I agree with that. I think it makes sense for him to go there. And members of the front office are split on Connor Pip, the Twins minor league pitcher of the year. The lefty has potential to be a frontline starter which would track a little longer to unlock or an impact reliever. So internal guys I’m personally my favorites are Rya and Fesa. I put Fesa in the bullpen. Like I I I I’m He can’t get the third time through the order. He’s nasty the first time through. He never goes deep into games. He apparently avoided significant injury with with the with the shoulder issues. So Rya, Fesa, I those are the guys internally if I’m watching at spring training would keep an eye on for as potential internal arms that solve your own question and also again right size the business because they’re making basically nothing. Uh so some just some other twins news and nuggets from others that cover the team. Got Ryan Mount Castle, Kobe Mayo. So plenty of still uh interesting stuff here as we’re uh as we wrap up the month of December and before we know it, spring training will be here in the fourth. Uh you mentioned Josh Bell. He’s a free agent. Josh Bell, right? Gay free agent. I I you know, I I fully acknowledge at age 33, he kind of is who he is, but I have been a big- time Josh Bell stand throughout my my baseball watching and fantasy baseball career. I figured it was much. I figured this was rotisser. I knew this was coming back to rotisserie baseball. I had him in my my hardcore. I’m not in it anymore, but it was a 16 team league with 33man rosters. And I had him in 2019 when he hit 37 jacks, 116 ribs for the Pirates. I thought he was going to be that player for the rest of his career. And he’s showing he went to Washington and had a little popup, but uh he’s man, when he’s clicking, he’s a he’s a big- time power bat and he’s fun, but he’s wildly inconsistent. So, but I I you know what, if we’re just looking for a fun little $8 million player or whatever, you could do worse than Josh Bell. And if I am correct on this, I believe oh Hearn was with the Orioles to start last season, was an allstar and then got spun off to the Padres’s and I don’t think he did much there. And I I think all of these guys are either 32 or 33 years old right now. So yeah, they are what they are. Yeah, that’s true. Reese Hoskins. All right, Jud, you have thoughts. See, we haven’t we haven’t gotten your thoughts on the show at least of the twins uh limited partner uh potential here. Before we do that, Jud, a quick shout out to our friends MSP Plumbing keeping it nice and toasty and warm here during the winter months. They definitely are. And guess what? They are not trying to rightsize their business. What they’re trying to do is improve it every single day. And part of that is by making sure that your home is comfortable, is warm. You know what? If you’re like me, the heater has been running all the time, right? It’s cold outside and that means that there is a lot of wear and tear. Also, your bills are going up. So, what can MSP do for you? Let’s just say this, they are the Yankees, not the twins of the heating business. Wow. Uh, Green Mill Pizza also powering these twins takes here today. Green Mill Pizza, that iconic Green Mill restaurant brand that most of you motans have been familiar with for a long time. You can now get their Tavern style pizzas in your own kitchen via the grocery store freezer section. Extreme Supreme hand toss pepperoni meat lovers. Uh some of the best frozen pizza you’re going to find. Uh tavern style pizza from Green Mill in your home. They also have soft bread sticks and sauces available as well. You can learn more at greenmillfoods.com. Baseball. All right, Jud. Doogie and Phil and I did a episode on Tuesday. We talked about the VA. I believe that’s where we’re doing it, right? Is it VA or Vard Partners? VA Partners. Vard Partners. VA. Vard Partners. A global credit and investment firm headquartered here in Minneapolis. Um, they have potentially joined the ownership group as the Minority Investors. Uh Charlie Walters had that in the Pioneer Press last weekend. I guess your overall thoughts on this, Jud, what what are your thoughts on VA partners potentially stepping in here to help out and rightize the debt and the business? You’re muted, Jud. Thank you. Sorry, the dog was barking. So they are one of um right size that dog is what you got to do. No, that poor dog. I She’s drugged up now. The CBDs were flying left and right here. I think I think she is on the verge of falling asleep. So, uh, Vard Partners, if I’m not mistaken, is one of two groups that, uh, Charlie Walters has reported, it’s not been made official yet, um, that they are going to invest or have invested in the Twins. The other one, I think, is an East Coast group. I expect them to be very much the same. Uh, the background is that this was started by a couple of former Cargill executives. I think they are now retired, but uh they started as a hedge fund that focused on distress securities and grew slowly. Now, it’s a big-time company. Not familiar with with them until I saw the report, but as Patrick says, we also in 1984 had no idea who Carl Pad was and then we found out. So, um, the interesting thing here though in my opinion is Distress Securities, they are these two partners, I’m assuming that the East Coast one still exists, are coming in to pay the debt off, the Polad’s debt off. Like that’s why they are here. I think that the writing is on the wall. I think that we are going to have the anticipation is a lockout in 202 what seven. Um, and then coming out of that with no debt, the polads are going to sell. And that’s where a company like VAD comes in because they want out like as far as I know, they don’t want to own, they don’t want to own distressed securities. They want to maximize the financial uh return for them. So, do I think that this is a positive? Absolutely not. I think that this is a this is exactly what we thought, which is, you know, private equity, hedge funds, all of that stuff. Um, the fact that we are now trying to celebrate that, oh man, the twins might go from 95 million on their payroll tound uh to I think 115 110 to 115 is the rumor. Let’s all celebrate is complete nonsense. Uh this is going to be this is going to be a painful process financially in which everybody tries to get out as soon as possible. So do I see this as being good for baseball fans? No, not one bit. I see this as being exactly what we thought, which is the poll ads uh found that you can’t sell a team with that much acred debt. Nobody was going to pay them. Baseball, I’m sure, said the Tampa Bay Rays sold for X amount and you guys can’t get that. You know, bug off. Get out of here. get your house in order. Um, so as far as baseball goes, I think that this is I think this is bad news, but unfortunately it’s not surprising news. Yeah. Yeah. I said to the guys the other day, it feels like like in the short term there’s this they’re going to try to make as much of a positive PR push as possible that hey, they’re helping to to free things up financially and we’re going to add and it’s kind of it’s like you’re not really adding. Even if you go up from where you are now 10 or $15 million, you’re still down like $40 million from where your payroll was 2 years ago. So it’s all just kind of a smoke and mirrors thing. But I think and the and even the letter that the Pad family sent out a few months ago announcing the mysterious to be announced minority ownership group, the way that they phrased the letter, it was, “Hey, we’ve decided that we want to continue to own this team and be part of this community and be stewards and whatever like the verbiage was.” And I think that’s BS. I think and I and that’s I wish I almost wish they would just be honest and say either through a report or somewhere, hey, you know, we uh we just didn’t get what the we didn’t get the asking price that we wanted for this baseball team. And we think once we get through the collective bargaining negotiation mess that’s on the horizon in a year from now, we feel like baseball is going to be in a better spot financially, TV structure, everything. Y and there’ll be more clarity for potential buyers on what they’re getting. And we just think organically the price of this baseball team is going to go up to like two or$2.5 billion at some point. And we’ve got these minority owners to get rid of our debt. So we are still selling the team, but we need to get a few things in order financially and the league does before we can do that. So I know you hate us everyone and and you’re ready to be done with us. you’re stuck with us for like two or three more years until we get a better price on this asset. And I think from a business standpoint, they don’t care about that. Like I don’t I like like I’m sure that the Polad family, there’s individuals there that probably take offense to to them being ripped left and right. Although they do deserve it, but as a b as a business venturer, they can’t say, “Man, you know what? We got to sell now because we’re not popular.” And that’s why you bring in these companies, which by the way are cutthroat. like these guys are not going to come in and help you. They’re going to cut things. I am a little bit concerned about the fact that if this is the start, I’m a little bit worried about employees, not baseball players, because typically, and it’s weird the p So, the one thing that you’re told across the board I and I will give them this and it goes back to what we’ve talked about with no one being laid off or furoughed during the pandemic. Evidently, the pole ads are great to work for. Like, they’re good to their employees. They’re a good company. I know Dex got uh let go by the radio station. So, perhaps perhaps it’s just Twins employees. But across the board, when you talk to Twins employees, they do like them. That being said, the companies that they are bringing in to help them are companies that come in and the first thing that they do is look at employee lists and let people go. So that does concern me a bit because the question is would the poll ads who would own the majority of the team still but desperately need help would they stand in the way of that or would they say hey you know what we are going to act like we have nothing to do with this we can’t control it so I do have a little bit of trepidation and I do think that there have been people let go behind the scenes as well but I do have a little bit of trepidation about that because um that’s not a fun thing and and but that’s also something that the general public doesn’t see. They see the baseball team. Um, so I’m hoping that they don’t, but I have a bad feeling that we’re going to see cuts. You guys want to do a random twin of the week before we wrap here? That would be That would be swell. Yes. Let’s Let’s do that, shall we? I’m going to pull Let me pull up the the list of 100 plus twins we’ve done. No cheating. No cheating. Okay. It’s been a while. Um, Phil is on a little bit of a win streak, though. Uh he won he’s won three in a row. Three in a row. Three in a row with Jake Cave, Jack Morris, Gio Rella, and Jud, you haven’t won since Mark Guthrie. I I I feel like months ago. Yeah. Well, we’ve skipped it quite a bit. We’ve skipped We’ve taken some weeks off. Okay. Yeah. So, like there have been some there have been some downtime in this, so I’d like not to pile on as much. So, well, it’s like the quarterback bowl challenge where I’m just being screwed every week. All time stats. Phil leads 37 career wins. I have 34 wins. Judwith 31 wins. So, can uh can Jud get the W? Will Phil’s winning streak continues? Find out right now on the Score Twin Show. All right, first clue. First clue right out of the gate here. Uh, this random twin played nine years in the big leagues. Okay. H. Okay. Six years in the American League, three years in the National League. Just one appearance in the postseason for this random twin in his nine-year career. Oh, I’ll give you this. like like one game or like one season or are you not ready to answer? Uh I I’ll I can answer I can answer that. I think I know. One season and one game and that came with the Twins. Mhm. One season appearance. This random twin accumulated a war of 9.0 according to baseball reference. Got to be very clear on this. F war B war. This is a B war stat. Nine baseball reference war uh for this random twin. Yeah, it’s not. Okay. individually in those uh in in the nine war seasons. His best war came when he had a 3.9 war season, followed up the next year with a 3.5 war season. Nice little run there in those two years. There was some okay years mixed in there. Yeah, one really bad year. Uh, but two seasons with the Twins where he he he was a above average capable player. Wait, so those the 3.9 and the 3.5 are with the Twins? Yep. Both those came with the Twins. Yes, I’ll give you that. I will give you that. It’s pretty good war numbers. Mhm. This random twin, again, according to baseball reference, made just under $55 million playing Major League Baseball. Okay, hold on. I’m doing a search. I’ve got it, but I just want to make sure I’m not uh Irvin Santana. Irvin Santana is the guess. And Irvin Santana is incorrect. I get two more guesses. Jud gets all three. Judy got a got an era. Do you have do you have some type of I got I got an era. I got an era, but I need more. I need a little bit more. I can’t get too hotty yet. Sure. Sure. All right. Do I want to give you this one? Cuz if I give you this one, I do think we’re going to start sniffing out here. But in one season, this random twin set a major league record. I mean, Phil Hughes, he didn’t play in the National League. I’ll guess it. Phil Hughes is It’s wrong. Incorrect. Okay. Set a major league record. All right. So, if I guess one more incorrectly, Jud wins automatically. That’s the drama here. Yep. Major League record. Hugh set I think Hugh set the record for like strikeout to walk ratio that one year, but he never played the National League. Yeah. And then he got a big extension contract extension for no reason. Okay. In that same season, uh he set a record since 1957 for a complete game stat. It’s a very weird. I mean, he he was he he was good in that season. So, is that the same same season? He set a major league record and then he also had that record as well or like a 60-year record that was that was broken. I have another guess, but since 1957. Mhm. Does Phil want to do it? My god, did he make this much money? This is the the money sort of hanging me up a little bit here. Let me give you this. And again, maybe this maybe this cues you guys in, but a lot of that money did not come with the Twins. Was it okay? Oh man, I have two guesses. Oh my god, I burned all these guesses. This random twin is currently 46 years old. Jud, are you not Are you not Are you just waiting me out? Are you smoking me out here? No, no, no. I’m trying to We We’ve done I mean, a few Can I Can I buy one of Jud’s guesses? A few names have come to mind, but the thing is we’ve done a bunch of these type of guys already. I have two I have two names, but if if Oh man, I wish I knew how close Jud was. Well, Jud has has no uh no idea. This uh random twin last appeared in a game in 2010. Yeah, this all fits. It’s one of the two. It’s one of It’s one of two one of the two guesses. Is it which one’s the correct one? Last appear in the game. Did uh did the appearance come with the Twins? The last appearance. Yeah, in 2010. Okay. No, he actually he closed his career a after some really really ugly years in ‘ 08 and ’09. He actually closed 2010 with a war at 1.9 and kind of went out on a high note. He did bounce around with a couple organizations but never got back to the major leagues after that. Can I Oh my god. Um, Carl Pavano. Carl Pavano is incorrect. No, he played longer than nine years. Okay. Um, I don’t want to end the game. I I have a name that I want to throw at you, but I don’t want Can I ask you I’m trying to see if I can ask you a question without Jud catching up to this if I’m right. Um, was this twin How good are you with syllables? Well, wait, wait, wait, wait. No, no, no. If you’re going to guess, you got to guess. Well, I can ask a question and he can shoot it down. I I I’m okay. I don’t know. I I just I just did it. Did the syllables and and I counted in my hand. Is it less than five? Who hold the the whole name? Yes. Carlos Silva. Carlos Silva is correct. Yes, Carlos Silva is correct. Wow. That’s the name I was on for the last like four minutes. I want the game to be in. The walk record 2005 he set the record fewest walks per nine innings. And then later that season he threw a complete game. Yeah. 74 pitches. Yeah, that’s right. And then and then when he went it was like the the next year he was atrocious and got back on track in a game against someone and it was like vintage Silva for five innings, 60 pitches and he like waved to the crowd and took himself out of the game after I think it was like yep that that’s my feel-good start even though I probably have 50 pitches left in the tank. I’m good there. Yeah, Seattle gave him like a $ 48 million contract when he left the Twins. Um and then they punted on him after two years. Finished his career with uh big league career with the Cubs. He was a Philly. He was a Philly before he was Didn’t they get him and Punto in the same trade? Yeah. And and uh Bobby Cari. Put some respect on Yeah. Bobby Cari. Dude, let’s go. He was traded too from the birds. Uh from the birds from the Cubs or from the Mariners to the Cubs for Milton Bradley. So he’s he’s tied with some Wow. Interesting names here. There we go. All right. Carlos Silva. Let’s go. Carlos Silva. Were you even close? No. No. Sniffing around Pavano there. The other one was going to be Kyle Lo, but when you said his career went beyond because Lo pitched beyond 2010, I’m pretty sure. Yeah. So a full four game winning streak here, right? Come get some. Hot. Come get it. Bill is hot. Uh we’re right sizing the business here at points on the Scor Twin Show. Hit the like button, subscribe button. Joe Ryan to the Orioles for Coby mayo and Heston Kjerstan, Pablo Lopez to the mets for Jett Williams, Ryan Clifford, Jonathan santucci. Buron Buxton to the dodgers for either Emmett Sheehan or River Ryan (coming off TJ surgery) and Alex freeland or Zypher Hope. Extend Ryan Jeffers, sign Taylor Rogers as a closer (again)
The Twins would sell Target Field and move to St Paul if they could just to pocket the money.
So sick of the penny pinching BS. Sell the team!!!!
Acquiring either mayo or mountcastle would be smart need a 1st basemen clemens best as a utility guy
I am bummed the Twins are adding minimum salary so Falvey can once AGAIN add a cheap power bat and other low bar cheap players too be “competitive” (to hell with defense, speed and fundamentals) Done with Falvey’ philosophies
If there appears to be a lockout in 2027 I don't think the trade line will be very good in 2026. I'd trade them during this off season
Will somebody please call Alex kirillov!?
3:08, more juicer?
Granted the Pohlads are oblivious and cheap but Falvey has a long history of terrible draft picks and especially awful trades. Get rid of him! He makes Kwesi look like a genius.
Phil is dead on about his comment on waiting until July to trade Buxton, Lopes and Ryan because of their injury history. It’s too bad there isn’t another Falvey out there who specializes in trading for injured players like Mahle, Dyson, DeSclafani, etc….
I wonder if Jeffers will be traded. They’ve traded for a bunch of catchers lately
Judd: "I'm Catholic, but burn me. I'm out." same Judd same.
