I just snagged this for $16. I don’t have a clue who he is but for a panini gold vinyl with an auto I couldn’t pass it up. My question is who was he and was he any good?

you might have to pay someone to take that off your hands
Got into 145 games over 2 years. Hasn’t seen the majors since 2022. Had .744 OPS for the Mets AAA team in 2025
Glove first outfielder that never really made much of an impact with us. Can’t go wrong with a 1/1 for that price though!
I was super high on him for some reason 😭
Paid $16 too much
He almost had one great game at Yankee Stadium in 2012. He batted in Jake Cave to put us up 3-0 early on… but Griffin Jax blew the lead. Then he was the ghost runner in the 10th… but made a baserunning blunder and got thrown out at home with 0 outs. Then he scored the ghost runner in the 12th inning… but Trevor Megill (now a Brewers allstar) blew the save and lost the game in the bottom half.
He almost murdered Gary Sanchez in the on deck circle. That is probably his most memorable moment as a Twin.
Why buy a card if you don’t know the value of the player?
Any 1/1 auto is worth that amount of more, even if the guy amounted to nothing. That said, it’s maybe a $20-$25 card if you highlight the 1/1 and happen to find a Gilberto super fan.
That might be a card that will not have a lot of interest – other than avid baseball fans who like collecting 1/1 cards like this, or potentially Gilbert or his family. He is still playing and only 26 with decent stats last year in AAA for the Mets. There is a possibility that he gets an opportunity and succeeds, similarly to Willi Castro. At that point you might have a pretty decently value card.
