Torey Lovullo says Kelly, Gallen may be ‘getting a little bit too big for what we can take care of.’
the Mel Kelly, Zack Allen situation is very fluid. Who knows where that’s going to go. We’re going to all remain optimistic that that um that they’ll remain Diamondbacks, but the reality of it is uh we you know they’re probably getting a little bit too big for what we can take care of. Um and we get that uh and on the back side of that, we we go out and and get a guy by the name of Michael Sroen. We knew going into Tory to this off season that pitching was going to be a priority in terms of uh improving both the rotation and the bullpen. And so far you’ve made an acquisition. You pick up Michael Sarroka who’s a a really intriguing pitcher and has had some success at the big league level, but has also had a very very lengthy injury history. Tell us your perspective on Michael Soka and the role he can play. Yeah, we’ve had a couple of um couple of openings, right? The Mel Kelly, Zack Gallon situation is very fluid. Who knows where that’s going to go? we’re going to all remain optimistic that that um that they’ll remain diamond backs, but the reality of it is uh we you know they’re probably getting a little bit too big for what we can take care of. Um and we get that. Uh and on the backside of that, we we go out and and get a guy by the name of Michael Sroen. Not a lot of people know much about him, but he was an upandcomer and has been battles some battling some injuries um early in his career, but I think we’ve gotten through that. I think he’s pushed through that portion of of his career. He understands now that he’s not a young player and you have to take care of your body a little bit differently to stay healthy and remain healthy. And the injuries that he had were kind of fluke injuries. So, um, when healthy, we know that he’s got real stuff. And when you sit down and talk to the athletes, right, and he’s not the only person that we’re talking to. Um, you know, we compare notes and talk over what we just have heard. We summarize it amongst each other. You can tell when somebody’s connecting dots a little bit differently. There’s a certain maturity to the answers. Um there’s a style in which that what they’re talking about and he’s a pitcher. He’s just not a chucker. He’s not going to go up there and live on two pitches which he did early in his career. He’s figured out the art of pitching. He understands how to get outs. He understands how to follow a game plan. And that’s what we need to do here in
