Oh great an OF who can’t hit and strikes out a lot on the decline. That’s gonna help
Hopefully he can get back to 2024 Nats form. If not he can work as a platoon option with either Isbel or Cags.
I’d guess this is the potential platoon with Jac that was talked about earlier in the offseason. Last year was a bad year for him as he only played 70 games but in 2024 he hit .300 against lefties in 71 games (He played 130 total games in 2024, with the Nats and Guards)
Not too happy with it, but perhaps we overestimated the amount KC was willing to fork over, if that’s even possible.
Yay, another underwhelming outfielder… great.
Go look at threads on this sub surrounds the 2024 trade deadline. He was everyone’s favorite target. People were willing to trade a shit load for him.
Injuries happen.
This should be half of the move to sure up the outfield. Interested to see the price and length here.
Once traded for Jon Lester.
One year $5.25m with an additional $1m up for grabs in incentives.
WE SIGNED SOMEONE
Now that there’s a dozen hitting coaches on the team, maybe they turn his slash line around.
Nothing to get all that excited about, but it also probably won’t have much of an impact either way
/u/stupidgnomes They did it!!
Lane Thomas is gonna fill the Jarrod Dyson role. 4th-5th outfielder who is gonna be brought in late games for either his defense or to steal bases. He is not an everyday starter.
There is no value in getting upset about a 1/$5M deal guys. If it’s the only thing we do then absolutely complain, but this is fine.
Maybe he just hated Cleavland, and he’ll get back to his Nats form now that he’s out of there. But this definitely isn’t moving the needle this offseason. Hopefully, he’s cheap, at least.
He can’t be worse than MJ and Renfroe, right??????????
For his career, he slashes .292/.359/.500 against lefties. My guess is that he’ll play right field against left handed starting pitchers to help Cags ease into his first full season in the big leagues.
This probably doesn’t mean the Royals won’t get a bigger bat for the outfield (they better add another bat). It probably eliminates getting someone like Rob Refsnyder.

Wonderful. An outfielder who’s bad to bolster our bad outfield.
I’m pretty alright with this. Seems like they’re hoping for a bounce back from a 2025 where he was mostly hurt. He can fill the role of platoon partner with Jac, someone who can take on more of the playing time if Jac struggles and slide to a 4th outfielder role of Jac breaks out. Doesn’t preclude us from making other moves either.
If you’re mad at this, I’d like you to remember that last year our outfield on any given day was literally Kyle Isbel and two piles of dog poop
This + tendering India is gonna be what we look back on in a year as failed signings. $13M thrown in the trash for players that can’t hit, field, or run. I’d rather see Waters or Blanco out there than this guy
It’s here, the hot stove moment we’ve been waiting for.
So OF picture now…
Isbel
Cags
Thomas
Yet to be signed “Big Bat”
Tolbert
At least not trading pitchers and C prospect for Castellanos
Real royals fans know that Thomas will get about 140 starts in left field before anyone notices he’s hitting .218
