And now some thoughts from the polar bear himself

  1. This still feels surreal. The idea of seeing Pete in a Baltimore uniform just feels like bizzaro-world. I hope he flourishes and does well, but man, Pete not being a Met just feels wrong.

  2. Maybe some of y’all should look at yourselves when both Pete and his wife mention your “tough love.” It’s ok to be upset but some of you guys really take it too far. Anyways, love pete love y’all.

  3. He’s a real one no matter what. Always love Polar Bear. I’ll never forget some of the moments he gave us.

  4. One of my favorite Mets of all time I’ll miss him he deserved a life time contract with this team.

  5. Sorry Pete but the more that time goes on the more convinced I am that this team needed a shake up.

Go fuck up the Yankees for us.

  6. I honestly don’t blame him or the Mets. This is all Boras’ doing. When you have a snake oil agent playing middleman, don’t expect any loyalty or handshake agreements.

  7. I thought I got over Pete no longer being a Met and then I read this.

This farewell message feels too surreal (and too soon), in my mind.

  8. Still can’t believe they let Alonso walk. It’s gonna be so weird not having him on the team next year.

  9. That homerun against the brewers gave me the greatest sports memory of my life. Restored my love for the sport of baseball. I’ll always love Pete Alonso.

  10. One of the few guys who you could 100% believe when he said “I love being a Met and I love this fanbase”. Other one was Nimmo. Tough, man. I get moving on from Nimmo from a practical standpoint despite the emotional connection, it was time, it made sense, his game was stagnating here. But Pete… the Mets have money to spend and desperately need a right handed bat to slot into the top of the order who plays 155+ games a year. It just doesn’t make any sense to me, at all.

  11. He broke Daryl Strawberries record…I wonder how long before the Mets see another legend like that. Imma miss seeing him with that sledge hammer. I was such a fangirl for him!!!

  12. Only guy I really loved on this team, with apologies to lindor. I always believed in the power of the Big Strong Guy, only guy i found myself mumbling to myself, ‘cmon pete’ as he came to the plate. For an average to above average hitter, it felt like he could do anything.

But I believe in Frankie and Soto and Alvarez, am excited to see Semien, and am ready for Big Benge

  13. Pete is an all time great Met. Every time that guy made contact you had a feeling it could be a homer

  14. I’m sure this isn’t a popular opinion, but I’m more sad about nimmo being tossed to Texas like that. Unlike Alonso, dude really thought he was going to be a lifelong Met. I don’t want to say the Mets did him dirty, but they kind of forced him into a position where he really wasn’t given a choice. It’s like your wife saying, “hey, I’m wondering if you’d be down for a divorce? But only if you agree to it. It’s just that I keep seeing all these younger guys I’d rather bang.” But I guess baseball is a business at the end of the day.
