HUGE NFL News That Impacts Dallas Cowboys + Cowboys Rumors On George Pickens & Jake Ferguson Injury

Coming up on today’s edition of the Cowboys Report, we’re breaking down the latest on George Pickkins. Mike Florio back at it again in a not great way. Kenneth Murray vers Logan Wilson conversation here. Some potential coaching staff losses, which I think in general is going to get a little overblown, and some NFL news that impacts the Cowboys. Before we dive into that, we are actually losing the share battle right now between the Cowboys report and Eagles Now. We are a dozen, we could round if we want to, away. Maybe by the time the video goes out, we’ll be a dozen away on the share battle between us and Eagles Now videos only, not shorts or live shows. Help us out. So, Mike Florio had what I will only describe as a classic Florio moment after Jerry Jones, we’ll get to his quotes in a second, backed George Pickkins publicly, Florio went full Florio and said that was a bad thing for the Cowboys. Here’s what Jerry said first on 105 to the fans is Pickins brings everything to the table. He brings enough pluses to the table to frankly live with what’s going on. This type of criticism, the criticism in my mind is, is he a competitor? And when he gets out there, can he come down with the ball? Does he compete when he’s out there? A triple plus. I think he means like yes to all of those. So Florio saw that and wrote, “Congratulations, Jerry. You’re successfully painting yourself into a corner that will require $40 million per year in new money to escape. And once that happens, Bickens will have the upper hand in the relationship.” Some would question whether you can beat Trust with that kind of power. Jones apparently does not. How did we get to that point? That that is a classic wild Mike Florio leap in logic from step A to step D, maybe step Q and we’re skipping all the other ones in between. How does publicly supporting a player who is being criticized mean you are required to pay him $40 million per year? There’s there’s no that’s just I picked the number and ran with it. I made him the highest receiver because there’s no way Jerry can win here. Now, the best way to win the game is to actually not play in Nazi radio interviews. It’s Jerry. We’ve kind of lost that battle already. If you don’t back the player, then people like Florio are writing, “Jerry’s not going to franchise tag George Pickkins.” You back the player and now you’re paying him $40 million you’re required to. There’s nothing required about this. Actually, that’s just a massive leap in logic that Florio loves to do all the time. And this is the stuff I don’t I do not like about Mike Florio. It’s this. It’s the never admitting fault. It’s the holier than thou crap. He always does. You He says, “Oh, we don’t traffic and rumors.” Yeah. Yes, you do. You just invented one. Actually, this stuff annoys me. So, a little bit more to come on George. Do you want to pay Pickkins? Why for yes, N for no? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Do you want the Cowboys to go pay George Pickkins? Florio’s throwing out the $40 million figure because that’s essentially the highest paid wide receiver right there alongside Jamar Chase. It’s Florio doing Florio things. I actually question if there’s going to be a team out there willing to give Pickkins that amount of money. Not because they aren’t desperate for wide receivers, but I actually don’t know if he fits every team. He fits in Dallas. I think he and Dak Prescott mesh up very well together. I think Dak can bring out some of the better versions of George Pickkins. You know, if he goes to a bad team and chases the money that doesn’t have a legitimate, reliable QB, I don’t know how that’s going to play out. I don’t know if Mike Frabel would like him that much. Like I I I do think there’s a good thing in Dallas. I think Pickkins is aware of that. At minimum, in the end, the leaguewide expectation is the Cowboys will at least tag George Pickins. That’s going to be about $28 million on the franchise tag. Can still work out a long-term deal. Will the Cowboys do their usual nonsense when it comes to contracts? Probably, but I think that’s the minimum outcome here. Some news that kind of broke during our live show today. A Jake Ferguson was downgraded to a DNP on Thursday with a calf injury and that puts his status very much in doubt. I had said on Wednesday’s show, yeah, I’m not overly worried. If you have a limited on Wednesday, that normally means you’re going to play unless the injury happened that day, in which case all bets are off. And well, when you go from limited to DNP, that almost always means the injury happened at practice yesterday. So, he was on the courts today doing rehab stuff. Calves can be scary because that’s how it becomes an Achilles if you’re not careful with it. So his his status is a massive question mark right now. I would not be surprised if Ferguson cannot go against the Vikings which would mean more Luke Scoon Maker, more Revan Span Ford and probably a game day call up for Princeton Fant as well. Let’s go to Kenneth Murray/Logan Wilson here. Brian Shottenheimimer keeps backing Kenneth Murray, but Jerry Jones did not on 1053 the fan. And we’re now into who’s right, owner Jerry and coach Jerry or the actual coach. Here’s what Jerry said when asked about it. I am sure you will see more of Logan than any other day. That’s Nashville. This is Logan’s fourth game coming up. It’s actually his fifth, by the way. Main thing is that we do have some alternatives. We can do some things that will give him some better keys. But the big thing is he Kenneth Murray has some competition there. And that’s as much as you can ask for to correct something at this time of the year. Here are the snap counts by game between Logan Milson, between Logan Wilson and between Kenneth Murray. Wilson played more in the first game. Now, I think a large part of that was the game was over. The Cowboys had won and they were giving Wilson more reps to get him ramped up speed. But since then, it has been a pretty heavy advantage of in favor of Kenneth Murray versus Logan Wilson, averaging around double digit snaps more per game, about 17ish% more uh on average, despite the fact that look, Kenneth Murray’s not playing well. I I know what Brian Shanheimer says publicly. Uh there are too many moments of him, he’s actually been fine at times in coverage. I don’t think I don’t think anybody on this team gets enough depth in the zones at times. feels like, but the run support has been a massive liability. Murray is definitely more athletic than Logan Wilson is that there is no doubt of that. But I think Logan Wilson is much more likely to be in their correct place. Shotty kind of loses me when he says, “Ah, you know, we we like Logan Wilson’s instincts like where he is essentially.” And the fact that, you know, he says Kenneth Murray plays physical and no, he doesn’t. He’s not playing physical at all. I would like to see Overshung get all of the snaps. hasn’t really happened yet. I don’t know if that’s a ramp up thing or not. And then if you’re going to split, okay, but I think that split should essentially be flipped in favor of Logan Wilson. So, pick a linebacker for me. Who would you rather play more of? KM for Kenneth Murray, LW for Logan Wilson. Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Look, I don’t think Logan Wilson is likely to be a true long-term solution at linebacker, but I think the possibility of him being an upgrade is out there. It does exist. I know that Shotti backed Kenneth Murray again. I do wonder if that is just coach speak. I do wonder if that is on he’s if it’s a the guy’s doing all the things right off the field, therefore I’m going to publicly support him. Or do they actually think he’s playing well? Now, I know Shotti said that, you know, sometimes it might look one way or another on film, but actually doing the right things. Nearly a hundred different names for head coach and coordinator roles. That’s offense and defense. which means essentially if every team were to change head coaches, not including their own and coordinators, there would be all new coaches. It there’s too many names on this list. I I appreciate it. It’s in-depth. It’s expansive. It’s exhaustive. They’re not all going to get hired and a good amount of them won’t even get interviews, but it is worth mentioning like, okay, who might be on the radar for other Cowboys teams even though your current head coach wasn’t on this list last year. Uh, first up, he listed Clayton Adams further down the list a little bit as a head coach candidate, which I’m not terribly surprised by. I do think Adams is further down overall. Here’s what or wrote. Adams, one of the headliners of a growing group of coordinators or soon to be coordinators who have risen past the normal hard ceiling world of offensive line coaching into contention for big-time play calling coordinator jobs. Here’s the issue. Um, that ceiling still exists. I do really like the job that Clayton Adams has done this year for the Cowboys as a non-playaller. So, he hasn’t actually risen into the big-time play calling job yet because he’s not the the the play caller. The history of firstear nonplay calling offensive line focused coordinators getting interest for head coaching jobs basically doesn’t exist. Almost all of them, the very few that exist, guys like Bill Callahan, for example, were play callers somewhere. So, I like the job that Clayton Adams has done. If I were a team like the Giants, I would interview him because it would help me get some insight into the Cowboys organization. I think that stuff has interest, but I’m not overly concerned about him losing or leaving Dallas after just one season. But what do you guys think? What is your concern level over Clayton Adams leaving the Dallas Cowboys? 1 to 10 is your scale. Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. Let’s talk coordinator candidates here. First up is Aaron White Cotton, the defensive line coach, and then quarterback’s coach Steve Shimco. Of note, Aiden or Adam Dirty, who was that got on this last year and got the DC job in Seattle. Uh here’s Ana White Cotton. I think you can make a very real argument. He is the top defensive coach on the Cowboy staff right now. He’s been really good. I I think he does a very good job overall, and I think there is the possibility he gets interviews for jobs at the DC spot. That wouldn’t be terribly shocking to me, although I’m not convinced he’d be a high-end top option for most teams. The one I would keep an eye on is Robert Salah because they were on staff either with the Jets. So, there is that built-in natural uh connection. Let’s go to Steve Shimo. been on staff since 2024 when it was McCarthy as the head coach, but he’s always kind of been more of a shotty guy. He was with Shottenheimer in Seattle. So, I think that connection is very much worth remembering. I think there are two stabs then he could potentially look to join if these guys get head coaching jobs. Obviously, Mike McCarthy has the connection previously. Something tells me Scott Tolzene will end up being McCarthy’s offensive coordinator or at least quarterback’s coach, but probably OC if he gets a job somewhere. So, I’m not as convinced on McCarthy. One name is Jeff Hafley, who is the current Packers uh defensive coordinator. Shimka was on staff with Halfley at Boston College, was even his offensive coordinator briefly. So, there is that built-in connection already. Then again, if you’re Jeff Halfley, do you just want to run it back with your Boston College coaching staff? I’m not so sure. As a reminder, the Cowboys can block all nonateral moves. So, position coach to OC is a job, you know, upgrade. They cannot block that OC to non to play calling OC is considered a lateral move. So unless the Cowboys let Clayton Adams leave or his contract is up, they they they can block him from taking a play calling job. That’s not a differentiator for the NFL. Obviously, coordinator to head coach is a non-lateral move and the Cowboys cannot block that one. We’re rapidly approaching 240,000 subscribers here on the Cowboys report. The Raiders are set to start Kenny Picket against the Eagles this week. Gino Smith doesn’t appear to be 100%. Sounds like it’s going to end up being Picket who has a chance to do the funniest thing ever against his old team and like actually look competent for once. I I don’t really think that’s going to be a very likely outcome uh for the Raiders. Kenny Picket has just not been very good. He has not been a good football player at pretty much any point over the course of his career. The Eagles are heavy favorites. They are 11 and a half point favorites in a game in which the overunder is 38 and a half. very much feels like that the this should this is a game the Eagles almost have to win. If they don’t, boy, you got a lot of questions about that team, the entire team moving forward. So, I don’t think this is the one they’re going to drop, but I will keep my eye eye on it out anyway.
