Zay Flowers: ‘We Got to Get Better’ | Baltimore Ravens
say, what kind of message does it send to younger players on the rookie contracts when they take care of kind of a core player like Travis Jones and get him a contract extension? Um, I mean, you everybody like to get paid. So, um, you going to come in and work hard and it just show the um the organization got your back and if you willing to put the work in, if you willing to do your job at the best of your ability, they going to take care of you. So, obviously it’s going to be cold there on Sunday. Just uh that does that affect things at all preparationwise or game day wise knowing that the temperature and all that? Um, no, not really for me. I’ve been I’ve been in some cold games from Boston College to now. So, I don’t think it really affect me. I don’t think it’ll affect nobody here cuz we practice outside every day and yeah, I think we’ll be all right. Um, from the second quarter on against Pittsburgh, you guys were driving up and down the field for the most part. What do you think’s holding you guys back from kind of hitting your peak offensively? Um, we got to stop getting penalties, turnovers, and we just got to execute and finish when we get to the red zone. I think those are the three like main things that we got to do. Is there anything in particular in the red zone that you feel like it’s been tough to overcome? Um, just we just got to finish. Like we get there, we just it’s all about finishing now. You got a heavy a heavy workload on, you know, Sunday against the Steelers. What do you feel like was working well for you in that game and could that be kind of a recipe moving forward here down the stretch? Um, I feel like I had more opportunities to um, make plays and they gave us the coverage we wanted and we executed on those plays. So, I’m just looking forward to making more plays and executing and getting it done. Just following up on getting finishing in the red zone, you know, generally like your numbers are are pretty good receiving numbers, but I guess one area is the I guess individually what can you know feel like there’s been instances where you get so close? Um, I mean, when you got Derek Henry and um, you got dominant tight ends in the red zone, it’s hard to not give him the ball, you know what I mean? So, it’s a bigger target and that’s what we draw. I just run the plays. Is that something you think about though? Just like you said that you got all the numbers. It’s just I mean, everybody want to score touchdowns. So, um, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t, but hey, as long as we scoring, long as we able to get something done, it’s all right. Get to this point. What’s it been like to work with DeAndre Hopkins? What have you thought of the season so far? Um, Hop for sure go like in every category off the field, on the field, just teaching younger players. Um, so it’s been super exciting and he all about like our success. He was happy to see me play. He happy to see me play every game. Like, so he he been huge to our room. Lamar was apologizing after the game saying he was frustrated that DeAndre came here to not be in this situation. I guess do you guys share that frustration? anything about his career? Um, I mean, well, Hop’s going right now. I probably feel like a lot of people feel that way, but man, Hop Hop don’t complain. Hop just do his job. Hop come in and play. So, he real vet and he take care of what he got to take care of. Just come back to the red zone stuff. Um, has that been like shocking to you guys? Obviously, you were best last year and the year before, I think. Has it has it been kind of a shock to the system in some ways? Uh I I I think so. I think it’s definitely a little bit of a shock, but it’s not something we can’t overcome. You know what I mean? So we sometimes it’s a different season. You struggle in different parts and different categories. So we just got to take care of that and get better. We get to this point, there’s four games left, but the reality is, you know, if you don’t get this one, slim and none are are the possibilities. So how do you compartmentalize that reality with staying the focus on just every play? Oh man, we play our game if I’m being honest. Like you can’t go out there too uptight and then play. I don’t think you’ll play the same. I think if you play how you play and just play to the best of your ability every play, we’ll be all right.
Wide receiver Zay Flowers on improving the red-zone efficiency, only having one touchdown this season and more.
