Pre-draft speculation is meaningless before hiring a coach, possibly a GM too, making cuts, doing re-signs, signing free agent starters, and of course actually finishing the season and establishing the draft order… that said the Giants currently have the #1 pick, so it's fun to speculate with that kind of bargaining chip.

Yates has the Giants trading with the Jets who take QB Fernando Mendoza first overall. In exchange the Giants get #7 and #18, plus a day 2 pick this year. Nothing else additional reported here. He has them taking WR Jordyn Tyson at #7 and CB Aveion Terrell at #18.

In my opinion, I would expect some future picks too. I like the selections, but I'd hope the run defense was addressed in a big way before this in FA.

  1. I like the idea of trading with the Jets and getting both their 1st round picks. And at #7, I also see the potential to trade with the Rams for both of their 1st round picks (#9 and #31 which is a glorified 2nd round pick) and possibly a Day Three this year or next.

Not sure if the Rams would be down for that, but it would definitely be worth kicking the tires to see. If the Ram’s around down to trade, I would entertain calls from team picking between 10-17 with and additional 2027 Day one pick as well thrown in.

Of course this is likely pie in the sky thinking – but aint that what these threads are for?

  2. I know we say this every year, but this draft feels extremely top heavy. Would love a 2024 falcons type of draft, trade down a few picks, grab Tate, use those extra picks to trade back up and grab Downs/Terrell

  3. Only getting an additional first and a second rounder for a trade up to #1 overall is too low IMO. I know it’s tough to mock draft trades, but I’d expect at least a future first, possibly more

  4. Can’t see the Giants and Jets making a trade of significance much like the Mets and Yankees because if it ends up being one-sided. The loser of the trade will never hear the end of it from the media even if it was smart at the time.

  5. Ah but remember, we still have to win one or two meaningless games in december to fuck up our draft position. As is tradition.

  6. Yikes, trading out of #1 overall and not netting any additional first rounders would be dumb as fuck

  7. Everyone needs to get off the hopium, we are *not* getting first overall. While I agree it could be a huge gain for us, we have had the hardest schedule so far, and the 3rd easiest to close it out.

  8. I would much rather us go Caleb Downs at #7 and Makai Lemon at #18.

Grabbing both Downs and Lemon is my ideal draft scenario.

  9. Picking Downs and then Lemons instead might not be bad here too. DBs are more hit or miss when it comes to prospect that I’d rather go with the more sure thing(not that Downs is bust proof).
